Alma: We're at the American Museum of Natural History!

And I can't wait to go inside.

Junior: Papi, can you show me that picture again?

Papi: Sure.

Junior: I don't remember this at all!

Alma: That's 'cause you were a baby the last time we were here.

Mami: Aight, familia, what do you wanna see?

Alma: I want to see everything!

Junior: Uh-huh!

Papi: So, where to first?

Alma/Junior: Rock, paper, scissors, and go!

Alma: Scissors! Junior: Rock!

Junior: Rock beats scissors. So I win.

Junior: The rocks!

Mami: What? Alma: Really?

Papi: You mean the Halls of Gems and Minerals?

Junior: Yep! Since my rock won, I'm picking rocks. Shiny ones!

Alma / Junior: Oooh, wow!

Alma: It's so big and sparkly!

Mami: It says it's an amethyst geode.

Alma: It weighs the same as four rhinos?!

They kinda look like pillows, but don't look very soft.

Museum Guide: Some duck-billed dinosaurs had nasal passages

that extended from their noses through their horns.

So when they took a breath,

we actually think they sounded like a trumpet.

Alma: Wow! Wait ‘til Junior hears that!

Alma: Didja know some duck-billed dinosaurs

made trumpet sounds with their horns?!

Junior: Alma! I'm not there yet.

Alma: Oh, okay.

What's taking him so long?!

Papi: “Numerous skeletons of hadrosaurs have been found

with almost all the bones in their original positions”.

Museum Guide: Let's take a closer look at the triceratops.

Did you know that its horn was covered with a material similar to our fingernails?

Papi: “Some specimens even preserve skin impressions and stomach contents.

Junior: Eww!

Junior/ Papi: [Chuckle]

Museum Guide: Wait ‘til you see the teeth on the T-Rex.

It's in the Hall of Saurischian Dinos. You're gonna love it.

Alma: [Gasp]

Junior, Junior, Junior. Let's go see the T-Rex!

Junior: Mmm-mmm! I'm still looking in here.

Alma: Huh? But don'tcha wanna see how big it is?

Junior: Yes. But, later.

Alma: For reals!?

Well, if we go see the T-Rex, you can take your picture with it.

Alma: Sorry, Junior, you got your two minutes already.

Junior: But you were rushing me!

Papi: It sounds like Alma wants to move faster and look at something new.

Mami: And Junior wants to take his time in here.

So what could we do to make that happen?

Alma: [Hmm]. What could we do? I gotta think about this...

I want to see everything.

I wanna see so many things at the museum, and so does Junior.

Junior: Wait wait wait wait wait! Read everything.

Oooh! Look at those.

But Junior likes to look at everything. And he goes slow.

And I like to go fast and check out whatever looks interesting to me.

I guess we have different ways we want to look at stuff.

Junior: Eww!

Junior/Papi: [Chuckle]

Alma: Hmm, how can we see everything we want to in our own ways?

[Gasp] I know what to do.

That way Junior can take his time. And I can see what I want to see.

Then we can each look at the museum in our own ways.

Mami: I'm like Alma. I like to look at whatever interests me.

Papi: And I like seeing and reading everything, like Junior.

Alma: So I can go with Mami.

Junior: And I can go with Papi!

Mami/Papi: Love it!/¡Vamos!

Junior: Roarrr!

Mami: You know in herds of elephants, the grandma is the leader of the pack.

Alma: Like Granny Isa!

Mami: Mmhmm!

Junior: [Gasp] Look, it only has two fingers.

Most carnivores have three!

Alma: Found it! There's the belly button.

Mami: ¡Wepa!

Alma: Did you see how big that sequoia tree was?

Junior: Ohhh yeah, we counted every single ring.

Mami: Did you say hi to our favorite blue whale?

Papi: We didn't get to it.

Junior: I still wanna see that!

Papi: Should we go back to the museum after lunch?

Alma/Junior/Mami: Yes!/Uh-huh!/Yes!

Junior: I wanna see everything. But first I want to eat everything!

Mami/ Alma/ Papi: [Laugh]

Alma: I got to see the museum my way, and now I'm gonna eat my sandwich my own way too!

Junior: What're we gonna see next?

Alma: Hmmm...

Alma: The American Museum of Natural

History is way, way, wayyy big!

Papi: How about the dioramas?

When I first moved to New York City,

I loved coming here just to see them.

Mami: Oooh, great pick!

Junior: Um, excuse me. What is a diorama?

Mami: We'll show you!

Papi: That's a diorama.

Junior: Wow! Alma: Whoa!

Alma: So it's an exhibit?

With animals, and plants, and a really big painting?

Papi: You got it.

Junior: But how do the animals stand so still?

Papi: Well, they're not alive.

Junior: What!

Mami: Artists put them there to help tell the story of the

time and place that this exhibit shows.

Papi: Yup, and this diorama is of the American prairie in the 1850s.

Alma: Sa-weet!

What's that bird doing up there?

Papi: That's the brown-headed cowbird.

It gobbles up any bugs that fly up when the bison eats the grass.

Papi: Om nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom! Mami: [Chuckle]

Mami: Ooh, you wanna eat some bugs too?

Alma: Eww! Junior: Not me!

Papi: You wanna see more dioramas?

Alma/Junior: Yes!

Mami: [Chuckle] Lez go, Riveras!

Junior: Ooh, Alaska! I've never been there, but now I wanna go.

Alma: [Bear voice] Yum! I'm a hungry bear and look what I have for dinner.

Mami: I dunno. Looks like that salmon was

the otter's dinner first.

Junior: You mean the bear took the otter's fish?

Mami: Yup.

Junior: Not nice, bear.

Alma: [Bear voice] Sorry.

Mami/Papi/Junior: [Giggle]

Alma: Sweet! Junior: Oh wow!

Alma: Arctic?

Junior: Brrr, cold.

Papi: Yep! But the walruses who live there love it.

Alma: Wow, this museum has dioramas from everywhere in the world!

Junior: Ooh, so can we see a diorama of Central Park?

Or the 6 Train? Or the Statue of Liberty?

Mami: Well, maybe not everywhere in the world...

You'd need a humooongous museum to fit all that.

Junior: Ooh, I feel like I'm in a forest.

Papi: Me too.

Junior: Can you read that to me, por favor?

Papi: “Largest of the living primates,

gorillas inhabit forests in central and western Africa...”

Alma: What's he doing?

Mami: Well, the exhibit's pretty old.

So sometimes it needs a little fixin' up.

Alma: Is he good or what?

Junior: [Yawn]

Mami: Time to go home?

Alma: Wait! I wanna stay here all day!

Papi: We'll find another time to come back.

Papi: The museum is just a subway ride away.

Alma: Okay.

Junior: [Snoring]

Alma: [Gasp] Since the museum didn't have a diorama of the Bronx,

I'm going to make one.

Mami: Ooh, love that.

Alma: I'm going to show everyone how ah-may-zing the Bronx is.

Mami: I can't wait.

Papi: Looking at it makes me feel like I'm really in the Bronx.

Papi: And now anyone who looks at this will feel like they're here too.

Alma: I made the Ultimate Bronx Diorama.

I wanna show everyone what I love about our neighborhood.

Howard: Who or what is a diorama?

Alma: This is a diorama! It tells you a story about a place.

Junior: And it makes you feel like you're there.

Howard: I like it, I like it!

Alma: It's also gonna have the Huda Store and my papi's Animal Clinic.

Howard: Hmmmm...

Alma: What? Do you think it needs something else?

Howard: I do. It definitely needs.

Howard: A baseball stadium! I mean what's more Bronx than Sweat Sox stadium?

Alma: You're totally right! Wanna make it?

Howard: It would be my honor.

Beacka: Hi Alma.

Becka: Ooo, nice! A diorama.

Hmm.

Alma: Do you wanna add the Community Garden?

Becka: Sure! What's more Bronx than the Community Garden, am I right?

Alma: They're right. There's too much stuff for one diorama. I need a plan to fix it.

Junior: Ooo, Alaska! I've never been there, but now I wanna go.

Alma: The dioramas at the museum showed us how special all those places were.

And I wanted to show people how special the Bronx is.

Alma: Hmm, everyone has something they want to show off in my diorama...

We saw a lot of dioramas in the museum, and each one of them was different and special.

Wait a minute, different and special, huh!

I know what to do.

Who wants to make a museum?

Kids: Say what? Huh? Maybe!

Junior: I have no idea what that means, but I am totally in!

Alma: Instead of adding to my diorama, we're going to each make our own.

Kids: Ooh! I'm in! I liiike it.

Junior: I get it now, and I am so in!

Alma: Great, let's get to work.
