bill sean Ichinagi is an expert in the

Japanese art of candy making called

amazaku today right here in our studio

he's going to show us how it's done so

let's welcome Lindsay Bartlesen and Shan

Ichinaki to question time thank you Alex

what does mean uhu means candy craft in

Japanese where did it come from come

from Japan but most of Japanese arts are

originated in China and this one goes

back to in China over a thousand years

old cool so how many people are there

that know how to do this uh there are

maybe half dozen people in the in the

world and in the United States there are

two candy artist wow so how long have

you been making

uh over 24 years now and could you

explain what you're doing as you're

doing it sure um just I took the candy

out the candy is about 180 to

200° and while candies hot I can mold

into different shapes and always a

challenge there no matter how many years

I've been doing this always something

new comes up so that's all edible

everything you're using there yeah right

it's a edible candy do it so fast

uh I have only few minutes to finish

each products because they get cold in

few minutes here

wow it's still hot so could you hold it

this and cool it off put the candy

upside down right side up because it's

still hot all right yep good good job

would you like to become a candy girl

see I'm cold as a candyman it's too

pretty to eat right uh since this is

very rare and so pretty a lot of people

don't eat right away they preserve this

there is a way you can preserve this

spray with epoxy plastic type spray and

protect the whole candy will last for

years and years how long did you have to

study to learn

uh in order to get a basic idea at least

takes 3 years I believe three to maybe

five years
