it's very important for you to show the

kids at home how they can learn to do

the things they see you doing on the

show oh I couldn't agree more and make

sure you stress the degree of dedication

and practice that's necessary for

performers to learn their craft h but

talented kids doing all kinds of

video danced an old-fashioned soft shoe

dance routine to the song in case you

were wondering a soft shoe routine is

like tap dancing except you don't have

the taps do you wear soft shoes

exactly this song and this style of

dance were both popular back in 1959

when my mom was a little girl but I

think this video will make both the song

and dance popular all over again can

welcome sure you call yourselves a

barberhop quartet right that's right

what is a barberhop quartet well that's

when four men get together and sing and

usually it's oldfashioned songs mhm did

it start in a barber shop yes it did

many years ago the barber shop was the

center of town and the barbers used to

sing with their customers and have fun

and harmonize harmonize what does

harmonize mean well that's when one

person sings the melody of a song and

that's the part you hear the most and

then the tenor harmonizes above it and

makes it sound really pretty what is a

fourpart harmony ah that's when we all

come in together now we start with our

bass i might say hello and I'll be a

little bit higher hello and then the

lead sings hello and then the tenor

sings the high notes hello and when you

put it all together it sounds like this

have some instruments with you guys what

are those these are called Degan organ

chimes named after the man who made them

JC Degan and they're almost 100 years

i've noticed that you don't look all

not i keep seeing all these kids in the

videos who are so good at all these

things and I feel like I'm not good at

you're always willing to help the other

kids with their jobs i'm not sure that's

enough of course it is we couldn't do

the show without a writer without a

script we wouldn't know where to start
