You see, the kids are going to put on a circus

- Haven't you ever been to a circus, Dooley?

- I'm not sure.

Is it anything like the doople shows back home?

The circus is nothing like the doople shows back home!

I sure wish I could see this circus.

- But today was the last show!

- What can we do?

- Dooley should see the greatest show on Earth.

I always wanted to be a clown in the circus!

What if we put on our own?

- Yeah, we could do it in the yard!

- We could make costumes.

I run the show and tell everyone what's happening.

Now all I need is a megaphone.

- And Chris, you're the animal trainer!

What do you do?

I teach animals tricks, and they do them for you.

I just need a chair, and an animal.

- And how about you, Kayla?

- I'm the tightrope walker.

And this is my tightrope.

Even if it's just stretched across the ground.

- Hi, Nick!

- I'm gonna be a clown.

All I need is a wig and something to juggle.

- Do you know how to juggle?

- No, that's he other thing I need.

- This is so exciting!

But what can Marty and I be in the circus?

- You have the most important job of all.

You're the audience.

- The audience?

Woohoo!

That sounds great!

That sounds super!

What's the audience?

- The most important part.

The audience watches the show, they listen,

they get excited, they applaud, and they cheer.

- That's a peely card-

I mean, really hard job.

Do you think we can do it?

- Oh, I'm sure if we really listen and really watch,

we'll be a great audience.

- But will we cheer?

Will we clap?

Will we be happy in all the right places?

- You will if you watch and listen.

- We can woo flat-

I mean, we can do that.

- Good, because this circus couldn't do it without you.

- And this circus can't do it with me.

I can't juggle, it's impossible.

- Oh, poor Nick.

Juggling looks even harder than being the audience.

- Not bad, Nick!

- Aw mom, I can't do this.

- You can't expect it to be perfect the first time, honey.

Jugglers have to practice a lot.

- Ugh, I'll never get the hang of it.

It's hard!

- Sure it is, Nick, and anything hard or new

takes practice to get right.

You know, doing the same steps over and over

until we get better at them.

- Can you juggle?

Maybe you can help me.

- Well, I can't juggle, but I read how in a book,

so perhaps we can work it out together.

As with anything hard, we start in simple steps.

Simply toss one ball from your right hand to your left.

Good!

And then toss one from your left to your right.

Nobody expects you to get it right

the first time, sweetheart.

Or the second or third.

Sometimes learning something new takes a long time.

- Really?

- Really. Just practice and keep practicing.

And don't be afraid to make mistakes

before you get it right.

- Oh, it's no use. I can't do it.

- DOn't give up, Nick. Remember, hard things take practice.

- I had to practice and practice

before I could fly my spaceship.

Juggling takes a lot of practice.

Ever since my ship landed here on Earth,

I've learned lots about your planet.

Today I learned all about circuses,

and how important it is not to be afraid to try new things.

Maxx, Nick and the kids told me all about the circus.

They made costumes and decorated the yard

like a circus tent.

Nick tried to juggle,

even though he'd never juggled before.

We sang a song with Ms. Z.

She brought me the letter C for circus.

The most important thing we did was see that new things

and hard things can take lots of practice.

But if you keep practicing, you get better!
