I was just tidying up the spaceship,

In fact, we're all going to do a little helping.

We're going to help Mom in the garden,

and we're going to help each other discover nature.

We're also going to learn how to help

keep this planet beautiful.

Oh, this is going to be so much fun.

You don't have to be afraid of it.

- Are you sure? It sure looks scary.

What's a caterpillar?

- Careful not to touch it.

Caterpillars where butterflies come from.

The caterpillar eats and eats leaves

then makes a cocoon like this one.

When it comes out, it's a butterfly.

- Like that.

- Ooh, that's beautiful.

Will you kids grow into butterflies when you get bigger?

- No Dooley, little kids grow into big kids like Nick.

- And big kids grow into grown-ups like mom.

- It's all a part of nature.

- Nature, what's that?

- Let me check my memory bank.

(computer dialing)

Oh nature.

Ahem, nature is the rain, the sleet, and the snow.

Nature is weather and all things that grow.

Nature is the beach, the sand, and the sun.

Nature is the thing that makes all nature one. (laughing)

(clapping)

- Thanks buddy. So nature is all around us?

- Yeah, it turns caterpillars into butterflies.

And little seeds into big plants.

- You mean this great big plant

grew from a tiny little seed?

- Well, I can't wait, I get to slant the reeves.

I mean, I get to plant the seeds.

- Let's get to work.

- This kind of work is fun.

- Yes, plenty of sunshine for my little frumnits.

- My frumnits isn't growing.

- Oh of course your frumnits isn't growing.

You forgot something.

- What did I forget?

- A frumnit isn't a plant, it's a tool.

Tools don't grow, plants do.

- Not even with water and sun?

- Nope, you have to plant a seed

if you want to grow something.

- Oh, (giggles) I guess I won't be growing another frumnits

for you to play with today. Hm-mm.

(upbeat music)

- Hi y'all.

- You all look like you're working hard.

Sorry to interrupt, but I have a delivery.

- That's okay, we're just explaining nature to Dooley.

- I love nature.

In fact, I used to be a forest ranger.

- Really? - No!

- Really, and a good thing since I spend all day

outside in it.

And I guess that's why Dooley's letter of the day is

N for nature.

- Oh, that N is neat, Mrs Z.

- You know, nature is everywhere and everything around us.

From the tiniest seed to the biggest tree.

And if you water those seeds

and make sure they get plenty of sun,

soon you'll have a garden filled with-

- [All] Flowers.

- That's right, flowers.

And you know, animals are a part of nature too.

Every bug, bird, and beast,

from the biggest to the smallest.

- Hey Mrs Z, can we play the bug, bird, or beast game?

- Sure, if I get to start.

They keep the seeds warm,

- Even nature recycles.

- I couldn't have said it better myself, Ashley.

- On my planet, we try to use everything over and over.

In fact, we have a saying (foreign)

- We call that reusing or recycling.

- Well, I'm glad you do that here on Earth too.

It's such a pretty planet, I want it to last a long time.

- That reminds me,

I have to take the recycling out to the curb.

- There's so much that nature brings us

that I don't know about yet.

- Yeah, like when are my plants gonna grow?

- It takes time, MARTIE.

The sun and rain feed the plants to help them grow.

- But what do they do if there's no rain?

- We can water them, like this.

- And if you wanna help me put these groceries away

I can show you other kinds of food nature gives us.

- Sure, Mom, I like helping.

- Yeah and maybe we could taste some too.

- We'll just finish up here first.

If you plant the seed and water it,

and give it sun then the plant will grow.

- But you're not scared of it this time, are you Dooley?

- No, I know more about it now, so I'm not scared anymore.

- Well that's because you learned about nature.

- We don't have to be afraid of nature if we understand it.

- What I like best about nature is that

since it's everywhere,

you can find out all about it by looking carefully

and asking questions.

- I like asking questions.

- And you're very good at it too, Dooley.

Here, look at this flower.

We can learn a lot by looking closely.

- Oh, look at the pretty petals.

- My teacher at school says that the birds and the bees

like the bright colors on the petals.

They use the flowers for food.

- And the plants need sun and rain.

That's how they grow.

- And then it becomes food for us,

like this tray of snacks, right Mom?

- You got it.

We have carrot sticks, celery, apple slices, and oranges.

All food that nature gives us.

In fact, nature gives us all of our food.

- So these snacks don't come from caterpillars?

- No Dooley, caterpillars become butterflies and plants come

from tiny little seeds like these.

- That's amazing, who would think those tiny seeds grow

into plants and trees?

- That sir is ablazing. I mean, that sure is amazing.

But when are my plants gonna grow?

- Oh, don't worry MARTIE, they'll grow soon

into plants and beautiful flowers.

And to think, it all started from a tiny seed.

Ooh.

♪ A pot of soil to make its bed ♪

♪ We place it so the sun and the seed ♪

♪ Give it water that's all it needs ♪

Hi everybody, it's me, Dooley.

Ever since my ship landed here on Earth,

I've learned lots about your planet.

Today, I learned all about nature.

I met a caterpillar that will grow

into a beautiful butterfly.

We sang about bugs, birds and beasts with Mrs Z.

And we helped make work in the garden a little easier

by helping out and working together.

Mom made us snacks that came from nature.

I learned that nature can be beautiful, but just like Mom,

it needs our help to take good care of us.
