I'm going to the dentist today.

Well, not a real dentist, but a pretend dentist.

Michael has braces on his teeth,

and I've never seen anything like them,

so my friends are going to show me what it would be like

to take a trip to the dentist.

They're all in your mouth and all over your teeth.

And what are braces?

- Oh, accessing data banks.

Hmm, braces, braces.

Ooh, braces are a device dentists use

to straighten crooked teeth for a beautiful smile.

- That's right, M.A.R.T.I.E.

Braces help make our teeth straight.

- My dentist said I need to wear them for a couple of years

and then my teeth will be fine.

- Well, gravity gravy, do all Earth people need braces?

- No, Dooley, some people wear braces

to make their teeth straight,

but others already have straight teeth.

- Do they hurt, Michael?

- They look kinda smeared.

Uh, I mean weird.

- They hurt a little at first, but I'm fine now.

I hardly even know I have them.

- They seem pretty cool.

- Will I need braces?

- Well, we won't know, honey,

until the doctor takes a look at you

after your big-kid teeth have grown in.

- You don't have all your teeth, Maxx?

- No, Maxx is losing her baby teeth

and getting her bigger grown-up teeth.

The doctor's gonna make sure they grow in just right,

'cause as she gets bigger, so do her teeth.

- (scoffs) Does he use a (indistinct) like me?

(all laughing)

- A dentist is a doctor who helps keep your teeth healthy,

just like a doctor helps keep the rest of your body healthy.

- Hmm, well, jumpin' Jupiter!

The dentist sounds like a lotta fun.

- Oh, Cosmos, I have a toothache. Oh!

Well, it sounds like you should go to the dentist

so he can take a look at it.

- No, no, no, no, no, no! I cannot go to the dentist.

He'll hurt me, and I'm already in enough pain!

- Zoom, the dentist is a doctor for your teeth.

He'll make you feel better, not worse.

- I can't, I just can't.

Maybe my tooth will get better by itself.

- Hmm.

No, I don't think so, Zoom.

I think you need to go to the dentist.

I'm sure he'll see you.

- (gasps) Not if he can't find me!

(laughs manically) Ouch.

- Oh, Zoom! Zoom?

- If I didn't know any better,

I'd think I was in the dentist's office.

- We're showing Dooley what a trip to the dentist is like.

- I just got new braces, and Dooley wanted to learn

about how dentists take care of your teeth.

- Well, your new braces are Dooley-riffic, Michael.

It's important to keep our teeth clean

and to brush them every day.

That must be why our letter of the day is T for teeth.

- Hmm.

And T is also for taking care of our teeth,

which we should do every day.

- And T is for toothpaste.

I use toothpaste to brush my teeth.

- And T is for toothbrush.

- I think it would be fun to be a dentist.

That way, I can help everyone keep their smiles beautiful.

- That would be wonderful, Maxx.

- Ooh, I don't have any tools like that.

- No, Dooley, these help you clean your teeth and your gums.

- Hello, Dooley, I'm Dr. Michael.

Open your mouth wide so I can take a look inside.

First, I look at all your teeth

and check between 'em to make sure they're healthy.

- Ooh, can I peek too?

- Sure.

- Oh!

Ooh! Huh.

- Then I use my special tooth cleaner

to clean and polish all your teeth.

There you go, your teeth are clean and are in good shape.

- Am I done now?

- Not quite.

- Whoa!

- We have a special tooth teacher to tell you what to do

when you're at home.

- Hi, Dooley, I'm here to teach you

how you can take care of your teeth every day.

Now, you only need a small blob of toothpaste

on your very soft toothbrush.

You wanna brush the front and back of all of your teeth,

and around the gums, like this,

in small round wiggle motions.

- The wiggle part's my favorite.

(Dooley laughs)

- And make sure you brush the whole tooth.

- And use small gentle wiggle strokes and a soft brush.

- To do a really great job, it takes a few minutes.

- Oh, brushing your teeth looks so easy.

Hmm, and a lotta fun. (laughs)

Do you brush your teeth every morning and every night?

Do you wiggle your toothbrush around

to clean all your teeth?

Taking care of our teeth sure does look like a lotta fun.

(Cosmos humming)

- Oh, Zoom, you're being awfully silly about this.

A simple check-up will tell the dentist what's wrong,

and then he can make it better.

- But he has all those pointy little instruments!

What if he wants to pull my tooth?

I've only got two of 'em.

- Doh! That's it!

Zoom, I'm going to make an appointment right now!

(Zoom shivering) Well, you're going to see

just how silly you're being when the dentist tells you

that it's just a little, uh...

and you know, that's a very good question.

As you know, dogs can't brush their teeth on their own,

so we need to brush their teeth every day, just like people.

- Ooh, so they can stay wealthy and lean?

Uh, I mean... (computer warbling)

You can even pick up a special toothbrush for them

at your veterinarian's office.

- Good, 'cause I wouldn't wanna share mine with a dog,

even if it was Nikki.

- That's right, and you should never brush your dog's teeth

unless your parents are there to help you.

- I'm learning so much about the dentist, Dr. Arvid.

I learned about how the dentist cleans your teeth,

and I learned all about taking care of our teeth.

I even learned about braces.

- We set up a dentist office in Dooley's spaceship, Dad!

- I pretended that I was a dentist

and we cleaned Dooley's teeth.

- Well, it sounds like y'all had a very good time.

- We had a lot of fun.

- It's always fun learning,

especially when you're learning to be healthy

and take care of our bodies.
