missed the Train the train was delayed I

changed the schedule board to 11:00 a.m.

well I changed it back to 9 a.m. no one

told me the train was late I left a note

about oh boy what a mixup I just had a

meeting with the superintendent of the

railroad and I told him the station was

finally running smoothly and he was

going to send us some new trains I

should have put the note right there on

the schedule okay okay now listen

blaming ourselves won't help okay first

thing we have to do is fix the mistakes

right and then we all have to get

together and make this station work now

in a world full of uncertainty people

look to the railroad for Reliable

service okay and we can any schedule

well we won't worry about it you'll get

Big Green Engine and what have you been

passenger got mixed up and thought Mr

Green Engine has been feeling poorly too

he couldn't seem to get anything right

and everybody said it was his fault let

me tell you about

it one morning Henry was feeling very

sorry for himself sometimes he could

pull trains but sometimes he felt he had

no strength at

all I suffer dreadfully and no one cares

rubbish Henry snorted James you don't

what's wrong with you Henry you have had

lots of new parts and new paint too but

they've done you no good if we can't

make you better we must get another

engine instead of you to do the work

this made Henry his driver and his

fireman very

sad

came to the platform he had taken off

his hat and coast and put on

overall Henry managed to start but his

fireman was not satisfied Henry is a bad

steamer he said to S toam hat I build up

his fire but it doesn't give enough

heat Henry tried very hard but it was no

good he didn't have enough Steam and

came to a stop outside Edward's

station oh dear for Henry I shall have

to go away oh dear oh

dear all he could do was to go slowly

onto a sing and Edward took charge of

disting in Henry's trouble what do you

think is wrong fireman asked Sir Topham

hat excuse me sir he answered but the

fact is the coal is wrong we've had a

poor lot lately and today it's worse the

other engines can manage they have big

fire boxes Henry's is small and can't

make the heat with Welsh coal he'd be a

different

engine it's expensive said Sir Topham

hat but Henry must have a fair chance

James shall go and fetch

when the Welsh coold came Henry's driver

and fan were excited now we'll show them

fellow they carefully made his fire

putting large lumps of coal like a wall

around the outside then the glowing

middle part was covered with smaller

lumps

Henry wait and see said the fireman

we'll have a roaring fire just when we

want it the fireman was right when Henry

reached the platform the water was

boiling nicely and he had to let off

steam how are you Henry beep beep

whistle Henry I feel fine have you a

exactly why there's a rule for this or

that but you know you have to follow

them so there isn't a train right for

some of a big mistake all the rules are

just to help real people who the right

things and avoid risk of

situations like I said most of that is

simple common sense of course some

people never

learn it's exactly the same here at the

station when you're working on the

railroad or even when you doing

something fun in your own

backyard you have to work extra hard to

keep from having an

accident careful thought and taking your

time that's the ticket to things safe

and

sound now I've got to go do my job and

face this railing before some passenger

in a hurry falls off the

platform take the time and not rush then

they get things

snow and frost men hustled and shouted

loading up the crates of fish the last

door bang the guard showed his green

Henry Thousand steam poured from his

funnel into the cold earth and the

His driver prepared to stop but the home

signal was down All clear Henry Away we

go They couldn't know the switches from

the main line siding were frozen and the

home signal should have been set to

danger but snow had forced it

down A freight train was waiting in the

siding to let the flying kipper pass and

the driver and fireman were drinking

cocoa in the caboose "The kipper is

due," said the conductor "Who cares?"

said the fireman "This is good cocoa."

The driver got up "Come on firemen back

to our engine." They got out just in

time

Henry's driver and fireman had jumped

clear before the crash but Henry lay

dazed in

surprised Sir Topham Hat came to see him

The signal was down sir said

Henry Cheer up Henry It wasn't your

fault Ice and snow caused the accident

I'm sending you to crew a fine place for

sick engines They'll give you a new

shape and a larger firebox You'll feel a

different engine and won't need special

coal anymore Won't that be nice yes sir

said Henry doubtfully

Henry liked being a crew but was glad to

come

home A crowd of people waited to see him

alive in his new shape He looked so

splendid and strong that they gave him

I am sorry to say that a lot of little

children are often late for school

because they wait to see Henry go by

They often see him pulling the express

He does it so well that Gordon is

jealous But that's another story
