rocket perhaps what is all this is

absolutely safe fireworks what does that

oh yes well i'm uh

glad that you uh asked that billy um

favor perhaps and uh go somewhere else

and uh make some money or something like

that please hmm that's it bye-bye now

the reason that they are absolutely safe

is because uh

they don't work

there's nothing in these things zero

well i do believe that uh you got

would think it would be easy to give a

speech about the fourth of july you do

of rights or or the revolution or how

about democracy you know about the

government how it's of the people for

the people by the people oh

wonderful do you have a pencil awesome

yes and something to write on maybe the

back an arm envelope fine all right now

now let's get this straight now you

it's bound to be very valuable if this

i guess it means freedom you know like

being my own boss pulling my own strings

playing my own tunes my own way

now that is something i would love to

is it is it yours it's billy's i guess

i mean it's his trap i helped him set it

behind the station i don't know what

he's gonna do with it

well knowing billy he'll probably let it

go and give the rabbit its freedom it's

hi kids happy fourth of july

where have you been mr conductor

on the island sooner

no not today i've been in new york

visiting a lady friend a beautiful

french lady friend

really from france what's her name mr

conductor the statue of liberty of

course i drop in on her every fourth of

july to keep her company she gets lonely

all by herself up there in the middle of

the harbor but she's not french

she is so the french people gave her to

america we learned that in school

remember

we did

oh yeah i remember now say cheese

why do you do stuff like that i mean you

scared the poor little rabbit yeah hey

don't you want to see your picture

25 cents for one two for a dollar

boy look at those faces looks like four

scared rabbits

hey what's that

this is the little fella that's been

eating the vegetables from my garden eh

you're a pretty hungry little nephew

aren't you

what are you gonna do with him billy can

we keep him as our pet

no i don't think my little nephew would

be very happy as a pet i'm gonna take

him into the woods and let him go

why don't you call him nephew

hmm

well the people that are

known as the winnebago

they believe that us humans

are aunts and uncles to this particular

little animal

and they have in their stories

they believe that

this little guy is a very important

animal spirit

and he's a very brave hero and a clever

little trickster

they even have a story about why his

tail is so short you want to hear it

yes sure does

well

a long time ago

there was this hair

living in the forest now here is a very

large large rabbit

and he came across this path and he

decided well

i want to capture whatever it is or

whoever it is that makes this path so he

made himself a trap and he made it out

of thistle

and it sort of worked caught something

but whatever it was got away it wasn't

strong enough

so he made another trap and he made it

out of

bark and string

same thing still wasn't strong enough

so he went to his grandmother and he

said grandmother

can i have one of your braids

i want to

have something to make a roll pot of

make a stronger trap and sure enough it

worked you know what he caught

cut the sun

well

you can't keep the sun

so

he went got close to the trap

and let the sun go

he got so close

but he sings the hair

on his tail

and that's why to this day

this little nephew of mine

has a short tail

and you let the sun go free my little

nephew

and i'm gonna let you go free

why is the fourth of july about freedom

well let me tell you

the fourth of july is about america

and america is a country and out in the

country there's fresh air and fresh air

is free

unfortunately hey

if i could figure out a way to solve

fresh air whoa oh schemer is that all

you have to say about the fourth of july

well how about something about uh

fireworks does that help your speech no

not really schemer but thank you anyway

to those speeches and stuff at the park

dark outside when the rain clouds came

oh no i hope it doesn't rain on the

fireworks

oh that's great dan tell me what

happened to the rabbit billy took him

out in the woods somewhere and let him

go good for billy

we had an escape not long ago on the

island of sodor you mean someone really

escaped from the island of sodor no

escaped from diesel territory i'll tell

you the story

one day edward was talking to trevor

when douglas steamed by he was pulling a

train of heavy coal cars

come on it would stop gossiping in the

sun when there is work to be done

[Music]

later edward spoke to douglas

trevor and i are old friends and you and

he have a lot in common too

we do quiz douglas and what would that

be

scrap said edward quietly

douglas gasped don't mention that word

it makes me wheels wobble

it does the same to trevor replied

edward he was being sent to the

scrapyard but the vicar and i saved him

and now he's really useful again even so

sir topham hatt certainly does need

another steam engine here hey he does

and quickly

that night douglas was still working he

had taken the midnight goods train to a

station at a far away part of the island

where only the diesels work

he was just shunting ready for his

return journey

when

that sounds like a steam engine he

thought the hiss came again

who's there ask douglas a whisper came

are you sir topham hatt's engine

i am proud of it well i'm oliver and i'm

with my brake van toad we've run out of

coal and have no more steam

but what you're doing

escaping

from what

scrap

douglas shivered

[Music]

then he remembered edward's story about

saving trevor

i'll be glad to help you they'll have to

look though as if you're ready for scrap

and i'm taking you away

their drivers and firemen agreed to help

too

everyone worked fast

no time to turn around i'll run tender

first come on

[Music]

but before they could clear the station

they were stopped

aha called a foreman a great western

engine and a brake van too you can't

take these hi but they're all for us

said douglas's driver see for yourself

the foreman looked all over oliver

seems in order

right away guard

[Music]

that was a near thing

we've had worse replied oliver and they

forged ahead

[Music]

it was daylight when their journey ended

we're home cry douglas

said his driver there are the works

we'll find a place for oliver

oliver said goodbye and thank you and

douglas puffed away

the next day douglas told the other

engines all about oliver

sir topham hatt will have to know said

douglas should tell him at once added

gordon

well here he is said a voice now what's

this all about big pardon sir but we do

need another engine

yes sir ventured gordon a steam engine

sir

well unless one is saved from scrap

there's little hope but sir one has

yes indeed and thanks to you douglas he

is now at our works oliver is just what

we need for duck's branch line

everyone cheered

now oliver and toad are mended and

painted in full great western colors

duck and oliver are happy on their

branch line

the others laughed at first and called

it the little western

duck and oliver were delighted and so

the little western it will always

be wow what a close call for oliver that

was really a scary story mr conductor

especially with all that lightning

outside

come on everybody we don't want to miss

the fireworks

and don't forget your speech there stacy

don't worry about the storm

i brought umbrellas

maybe even a walking dessert with some

celery and peanut butter on it but i'm

pickup truck backfiring yeah it was a

nickel's worth of fireworks and that's

our cue deedee

well uh now these are all our work

clothes and while you folks are out

having fun schemee and i were in the

station working

working at what

capturing wild animals you know

there are live wild animals in the

station that should be fighting cages

yeah not to mention ghosts

well stacy yeah how are you going to end

your fourth of july speech anyway yeah

oh well i was thinking about abraham

lincoln this morning and he said

something that well to me sums up

independence day he said we hold these

truths to be self-evident that all men

oh of course that means all women too

were created equal that they are endowed

by their creator with certain

inalienable rights that among these are

life liberty and the pursuit of

happiness

we can't have a fourth of july without

fireworks
