The world learns of ritter's

reclusive life through his letters,

which are occasionally

picked up by a passing ship.

Ritter's mission:

that will save

mankind from itself.

Inspired by the stories

of those who survived.

Dore strauch returns to germany,

where she died of multiple

sclerosis in 1943.

Before her death, dore published

her view of the events on floreana.

Margret wittmer responded with her own

book that contradicted dore's account.

Rudy lorenz never

made it to isabela.

He and the captain were found

150 nautical miles from floreana.

Her boat ran out of fuel

and drifted off course.

Margret wittmer lived on

floreana until her death in 2000.

She was 96 years old.

Her descendants still

live there today.

They run a small tourist hotel.
