04x04 - Chill / Christian / Seventh Wave

[Music]

it was an up and out the door

kind of morning katie discovered that

when you hurry to put your shots on one

leg hole always seems to

run away from you or we learned that

even though a bike helmet is big it can

be hard to find in the closet

[Music]

and they both found out that when the

spring sunlight shines in the window

it heats up the room

it was a saturday morning in early

spring

although it looked like a beautiful

spring day out

the air was still cold from winter katie

and orbee were in a hurry to meet their

fans at the park

after breakfast katie slipped her

sandals and her sun top on

orbee washed his face and hand and katie

did the same and brushed her teeth

mom and dad were reading the paper and

doing crossword puzzles in the living

room

orbee threw on his jacket

and katie didn't no one really noticed

what katie was wearing when she headed

out the door

she called her mom that they were going

to meet yi ping and her mom at the park

now

mom called back have fun

katie did notice it was a little cool

out when they were out on the breeze she

did feel a chill wash over her

but i have to say that the excitement of

meeting up with her friends was so

strong that

she hardly paid any attention to it

the park yi ping and arthur were

swinging on the monkey bars

yi ping's mom was watching them from a

park bench

she did ask katie if she was warm enough

and katie said yes as she shot down the

cold slide

after that she and yi ping played on the

roundabout

when katie was on the floor for her spin

the

metal floor made katie feel even colder

[Applause]

he ping's mom asked katie again if she

was sure that she was warm enough

katie was so wrapped up and playing she

told eeping's mom that she was fine when

orbee called her to meet him halfway on

the monkey bars

katie climbed with speed to get there

fast

and she did notice that her hands were

turning a bit purple

and feeling awfully cold

katie swung across the monkey bars and

orbee made a

ta-da kind of noise to tell her that

they made it to the middle

[Music]

arthur laughed and so did ye pink

but katie all of a sudden had to let go

she dropped to the ground and felt so

cold she could barely stand it

yeah ji ping's mom raced over to see

what was wrong

mom was running up the path waving

katie's jacket and calling that she'd

forgotten it

mom was shocked to see what katie was

wearing

she threw the jacket over katie's

shoulder and picked her up she was

surprised

to see katie wearing shorts and sandals

she told ye ping's mom that she would be

right back but

first she needed to get katie warmed up

and entered the right kind of clothes

for early spring

yi ping's mum was glad to hear it

because even though katie said she

wasn't cold

she felt for sure she was

now when they got home mom put katie

right into a bubble bath of warm water

slowly katie began to feel better

and so did mom

mum asked katie why on earth she went

out in summer clothes when spring was

just starting

katie explained that the sun streaming

in the window had made her think it was

summer already and

she didn't want to be too hot

when she noticed it was a bit cold out

you remember that some summer days warm

up and so

she waited for it to do that and sadly

before it got any warmer

katie got really really cold

[Music]

katie looked at mama as mum rubbed her

down with a towel

she told her that she didn't know cold

could hurt so much

mom looked right into katie's eyes

she told kitty that was because staying

warm was very important for everybody

we don't have any fur like animals do

she explain

so clothing protects us from the weather

we wear snow suits in winter to keep us

safe from the cold

if we went out in shorts and sandals in

the winter

we would become very sick we need to

dress properly for each season

[Music]

this time when kitty dressed mom helped

her find good spring clothes that would

keep her nice and warm

downstairs she zipped up katie's jacket

katie felt bad that she had done really

such a silly thing

her mom gave her a kiss on the cheek

growing up was full of things to learn

and how to dress properly was one of

them mom told her to think about how

many things she's already learned

[Music]

and kitty thought for a minute and she

smiled she knew

a lot of things

[Music]

with that katie hurried down the

sidewalk toward the park

and mum followed behind her

[Music]

at the park katie's friends were waiting

for her

everybody was glad she was back

[Music]

yi ping's mom told katie that what she

was wearing looked much better and katie

beamed at her that this was just the

right thing to wear in early spring

when summer came then she would wear her

shorts

[Music]

with that she gave yi ping's mom a big

smile for caring about her and

raced off to join her friends

and when summer came katie asked mum if

the day was right for shorts and when

mom said it was

katie was delighted

[Music]

[Laughter]

she knew all the right clothes to wear

for each season

[Music]

and do you know that you need to wear

all the right clothes too just like

katie

they keep you warm and healthy and

keeping you warm and healthy

is a very important thing

because you are a very

important person

did you know did you know did you know

did you know fire safety

is very important you should talk to

your family about

what to do in case of an emergency work

together to create an escape plan to get

out of your home

and then have a fire drill don't forget

it's important to make a meeting place

so that you know

everyone is safe

[Music]

it had been a noisy day

katie found out that balloons are not

always easy to pop

or be discovered that the tick tock of a

clock kept count of the seconds

and they both were that when two people

talk at the same time

one or both of them can't hear what the

other is saying

[Music]

when they were at the park katie and

orbee made a new friend

his name was christian christian led to

do somersaults like orbeez

he could swing really high on the swing

like katie

christian did all kinds of silly things

like squeeze his lips together and

make a fish face that made his friends

laugh

they had so much fun playing with

christian

orbee asked mom if he could come over to

their house for lunch

when orbee and christian's mom agreed

that that would be fine the three

friends raced

all the way home

when christian saw orbeez toy dump truck

he

was very excited and that was when it

first happened

he tried to say i like your truck but

the word

truck did not want to come out

christian tried he pushed it out as best

he could

and katie could see he was in trouble

and helped him she said

truck for christian and

christian stopped and smiled and yes he

said

then he asked if he could have a turn

and when he went to say the word turn

it didn't want to come out either or be

mimed a turn

and christian nodded his head and agreed

katie wondered why christian's mouth got

so

stuck she quietly left the room as the

two friends

varoomed around the floor

downstairs katie found mom who was

stirring a pot of tomato soup and she

told mum

that all christian could do sometimes

was say a whole lot of

sounds but not the word

the word he wanted to say just wouldn't

or couldn't

come out katie was worried that he was

sick

or broken in some way mom spooned the

soup out into the bowls as she smiled

she told katie that christian was just

fine

he had a stutter which means that some

sounds were hard for him to say right

now

he tried and although it didn't happen

all the time sometimes the words

just didn't come out the way he wanted

them to

katie looked into the bowl of soup and

sniffed

she told her mum that she would just

have to help him say some of his words

mom touched her shoulder and katie

turned around and mom told her

it wasn't helpful to finish his words

for him

she could help by waiting for him to say

it himself katie wrinkled her nose and

mom reassured her

yes he can if you give him a chance

[Music]

at that moment christian and orbee

rumbled down the stairs

orbee tooted that they were two hungry

truck drivers and

wondered if lunch was ready and mom

nodded and placed the big bowls of

hot soup on the table

at lunch christian had no trouble

pronouncing his words at all

katie had almost forgotten that he

stuttered

after lunch they decided to play

dress-up and with giggles and shrieks

they put together some really silly

costumes

katie was dressed up like a doctor

christian was dressed up like a clown an

orbee head on the long cape of a

magician

orbee put on a black mask which kept

slipping down

christian set the elastic up higher on

the back of orbee's head

katie went to adjust it and christian

when he tried to tell her not to touch

it

began to stutter the word touch

was fighting with christian

orbee went to tooth it and katie touched

his arm in a gentle

don't say anything kind of way

orbee and katie waited orbee wasn't sure

why but katie just smiled at christian

to let him know it was okay to take his

time and to get the word out

within a few seconds the word popped out

and christian

beamed he felt very good about doing it

all by himself

and orbee was so proud of him he clapped

and three friends headed for the stairs

orbee trumpeted for mom to come and see

the surprise they had for her

as mom walked into the hall katie did a

silly

doctor walk all the way down the stairs

mom chuckled

and told katie that a good doctor was

hard to find

then orbee tooted and christian came

around the corner

and did a funny bumping down the stairs

making a funny face

mom and katie laughed and christian did

a little bow at the bottom

[Music]

orbee tooted again and then he

spun around the corner and went to take

his first step

part of his cape fell on the floor in

front of him

katie mum and christian could see that

orbee was about to trip

katie was so shocked she couldn't speak

only a little

squeak came out mom pointed with her

finger at his cape

but christian shouted at orbee to stop

he was going to trip

orbee stopped right away and moved the

cape from in front of him

mom turned a christian and gave him a

big hug she thanked him for

stopping orbee orbee thanked him too

as he did the silliest magician walked

down the stairs that he could think of

when he got to the very bottom everybody

clapped except for katie

katie was staring at christian

and when all the giggling died down

katie smiled

she grabbed up christian and a hug and

told him

he'd said the word trip without stopping

at all

christian looked at her he thought about

the words he said and then

he twirled around in a circle i did he

laughed

katie said she had wanted to say stop

but she was so afraid of what was going

to happen

that all that came out was a squeak and

mom said she pointed because she thought

it was quicker

but it was christian's words that kept

orbee safe

i guess i don't have to tell you that

from that they on

christian knew he had done a very

important thing for his new friend

orbeez

and katie and orbee knew it too it made

christian feel

absolutely wonderful inside

and you know if one day you do something

that's hard for you to do

and it helps a friend you'll feel very

wonderful inside too

did you know did you know did you know

did you know jellies and jams are made

of yummy fruit strawberries

raspberries and all kinds of other

berries

make really good jams jam tastes great

with peanut butter

or you can put it on pancakes when you

run out of syrup yum yum

[Music]

it had been a windy night

katie discovered that the wind can open

and close the screen door by itself

orbee learned that it whistles through

the trees

and chance found out that sleeping on

the porch on a windy night can really

ruffle your fur after breakfast katie

and orbee hurried outside to play

orbee carried two badminton racquets and

a birdie

they were going to have a game of

badminton katie took one of the racquets

and hurried to the far side of the net

orbee held the birdie up high swung the

racquet back as far as he could

and just as he hit the birdie over to

katie dad called to stop

him but it was too late the wind

wanted to play badminton too so it

lifted the birdie up higher and higher

in the air

[Music]

as katie watched it she knew she would

never get a chance to head it back

up and up it went until it disappeared

from view

dad said that perhaps it wasn't the best

day to play badminton

katie and orbee had to agree

later on when katie and orbee were

swinging in the hammock

katie had a great idea orbee almost spun

around backwards as she raced over and

picked up the soccer ball

it was definitely too heavy for the wind

to lift up

orbee waited on one side of the lawn

while katie got all set to kick the ball

she told orbee to move back

it was going to be amazing

and she was right when katie kicked the

soccer ball

it rose up and then surged along toward

orbeez

orbee got ready to kick it back but out

of the blue the soccer ball

took a sharp turn and caught up by the

wind

it shot out over the lake

it didn't land on the water

until a wave reached up and touched it

katie and orbee called for dead but by

the time he got there

it was a tiny dot on the horizon

orbee asked dad to get the motorboat and

chase the ball but dad said

with a wind like that he would never

catch up to it it would be miles away by

the time he left

the boathouse their soccer ball wasn't

coming back

katie and orbee were disappointed

mom told them that they would be able to

buy a new ball another day two friends

sat on a rock overlooking the dark ray

wave

that splashed and sprayed on the shore

sometimes they sprinkled katie and orbee

with drops of water

it was the spraying of the water that

made katy think of something else to do

she raced for the house and disappeared

inside

when she came back she had two bottles

of bubbles in her hands

[Music]

she told aubrey that they could hold the

bubble makers and the wind could do all

the blowing

orbee tooted that katie was brilliant

they checked the way the wind was

blowing by the way katie's hair was

flying and then they

loaded up their bubble holders

orbee's bubble mixture vanished before

he even got it out of the bottle

katie's went popping was gone they both

tried again a few more times but

the wind just whipped the mixture out of

the holder and no one could even get

close to making a bubble

the wind was blowing the bubbles too

hard

then katie thought of another game they

would play

superheroes and use pillowcases as capes

and this would have been a good idea

except that

when they ran in the wind katie's got

pulled right out of her hand

it would have blown right out onto the

lake too except that a bush caught it

and gave katie time to grab a hold of it

and quickly the two friends put the

pillowcases on the porch

before the wind could take them away

they sat down on the grass the wind

blowing all around them it seemed like

it wanted to play but

it was too rough with their toys

just then dad rounded the corner of the

cottage carrying two life jackets and

asked them

to follow him down to the little cold

beach where they swim

the beach was surrounded by trees and

the dock and so

although there were lots of waves they

were not as big as that on the open lake

as dad zipped them into their jackets he

told the friends that

he would teach them the secret of the

seventh wave

well i don't have to tell you that the

moment the two friends heard that

they were interested they walked out

onto the dock beside the beach

they had asked them to sit in the dock

and watch as he showed them the secret

[Music]

he climbed into the water the waves

splashed and moved around him

when one really big wave came dad asked

them to count the number of waves that

followed

kitty and orbee did when they got to

five

dad bent his body over and got ready

when they hit

six dad got lower in the water and when

they said seven

dad jumped forward with the waves

and rode on it until he got close to the

shore

katie and orbee shrieked with the light

he was wave riding but then to their

real surprise

dad came over to the dock and lifted

both of them

into the water

he told them to be a bubble on the water

and ride the waves up and down until the

next seventh wave

when that one came they would go for a

wave ride they were already at five and

katie wasn't too sure how to do it

but dad just told her to push off the

ground with her toes

when the wave came and the wave would do

all the rest

the seventh wave moved right up behind

katie and instead of moving forward with

it

she rose up and felt it rush under her

toes and then she sank down again

orbeez shot forward like a rocker

and was totally carried to the beach

dad started counting again katie got

ready but when the seventh wave

came she pushed too late and the wave

washed right over her head

orbee was worried about her but she

laughed right out loud so

she was having so much fun this time dad

moved beside

katie and held her in his arms when the

seventh wave came

he gave her a push at just the right

time and katie

sailed along on the way she giggled and

splashed as she went

the next time they tried it three at the

same time

then they tried jumping over the waves

and through the waves

[Applause]

when mom came down to see what they're

all up to katie told her

they'd finally found a game that she and

orbee and the wind like to play

and do you know what if you had been

there that day

i'm sure the wind would have liked to

have played with you

as well
