And now, today's adventure of Outerscope
The Technovec machines gave us
directions, but we think they were trying
to trick us. I thought it all out. We're
going to use these directions backwards.
Please, Willie. I want to go home.
Don't do it, Willie. Follow the
directions. That's it. Keep going
straight. That's good.
Okay, now just ahead. They show a left
turn, so go the other way. Hang a right.
Great.
Gee, do we have to change his directions?
You wanna go home again, don't you?Yes,
but... But nothing. This is the only way
to do it. Wrong, Cynthia. This is one
of two ways to do it. We can also follow
the directions. Oh, come on, Eleanor.
You can't really believe those machines,
can you?I just trust that they really
wanted to help us, that's all.
Okay, an easy curve around here.
A little wider. That's it.
Now swing a left.
How are we doing?Terrific.
Terrific. No problems at all. Good
heavens! I can hardly believe my eyes!
Look! It's Earth!It is!
Earth! We'll be home soon! Our troubles
are over! Fantastic! We've done
it! We don't need these anymore! What do
you know?We all smarter than Technovex!
Isn't it beautiful?Our
planet... Earth! She's so
graceful! Watch how she turns!
Uh.. Wait a minute! It doesn't look quite
right! What do you mean?Seems fine to
me. But it's... uh..
It's not round like it should be! Hey,
look! It's not round at all!
It's flat like a penny! Oh,
no! It's not Earth!
Space, I'm fed up. Well, it
could have been different. We could have
used their directions. But you guys were
just like the Sandylanders. Like the
Sandylanders?Yes. You
remember?They didn't trust us
just 'cause we were different. And we
didn't follow the Technovex directions
for the same reason. Of course!
Just because they were different. That's
right. They wanted to be friends with
us. Oh, dear! Is it too late?
Can we still use the directions?Nah,
we're totally lost.
Hey, look! That thing is laughing at us!
I'm losing control! We're heading
straight into it!
Oh, what a pretty rainbow. Let's follow
it. Maybe we'll find the
pot of gold. Come on, let's see
where it leads. Why not?We have nowhere
else to go.
We're going faster! What do you mean? That
rainbow is like a magnet! I can't steer
away! Here, let me give it some muscle,
Willy. Hey, the force is too
strong! Even for me!Even I can't
turn! We're caught!
Well, where are we going this time?
There's no way to tell! Hey! We've
stopped! We've stopped dead! Good
heavens! More trouble!
Gee! It looks like leaves out there!
It IS leaves! You don't suppose?
Somehow, maybe, we've landed on Earth?
Sure. Fat chance. Well, hello there!
What's this?Another weirdo. I
knew it. What, What are they,
Eleanor?Hi there, strangers! It
beats me. I can't imagine.
Welcome, welcome. Glad to see you, folks.
I guess this can't be Earth.
But where are we?
To be continued. Next time,
The Secret.
It's time to tell a
story
It's story,
storytelling time
You know this song, Not King Cole?
goes like this.
Not that one. The buzzer took the monkey
for a ride in the air. The monkey thought
that everything was on the square. The
buzzer tried to throw the monkey off his
back, but the monkey grabbed his neck and
said, Now listen,
Jack. Straighten up and fly right.
Straighten up and fly right. Straighten
up and fly right. Cool down, Pop, but
don't you blow your top. A
buzzard was flying around in the
sky, looking for food.
Whishoo, yeah. Down from the sky came
the buzzard. Hello, rabbit, he said.
Would you like to go for a cool
ride in the sky with me?Come
on. It's nice and cool up
there. All right, said the rabbit. Hopped
onto the buzzard's back, and up into the
sky they went. Round and
around and around. And when the Buzzard
was ready for lunch, he said to the
rabbit, Hold on, rabbit, I'm going down
for a landing. Then the Buzzard went into
his power dive
before he hit the earth, he threw the
rabbit from his back, ate the
rabbit for lunch. Later that
day, Buzzard was back again.
looking for food.
Round and around he flew.
Saw a squirrel. Hello,
squirrel. How would you like to go
with me for a cool ride in the
sky?No?
What's the matter?You afraid?No,
you're not afraid. Well, come on, let's
go. The squirrel got on the
buzzard's back. Up into the sky they
went. Now there
was a monkey that was watching the
buzzard, and when he saw what the
buzzard did to the rabbit and to the
squirrel, that monkey
began to worry
because he could be
next. And if not him,
maybe you or you
or you too. So the
monkey got to thinking, how could he
stop the buzzard?
How would he stop him?He got an idea. And
the next day the monkey was standing,
watching the sky for the buzzard.
Then he saw him coming. Buzzard, Buzzard,
Buzzard, he called out. Buzzard just
swooped down on the ground. Hello,
monkey, he said. How are you feeling?
Oh, Buzzard. Buzzard, said the monkey.
Could you give me a cool
ride in the sky?
What?Said the Buzzard. You want to go
for a cool ride in the sky?Well, come
on, let's go. Up into the sky they
went. Oh, the Buzzard was
excited. Monkey dinner. He was
going to be eating. He flew around and
around and around. When he was ready for
monkey dinner, he turned to the monkey
and he said, Hold on, monkey. I'm
going down for a landing.
But
before he could turn,
the monkey whipped his tail out
and wrapped it so tight around the
buzzard's neck that his eyes nearly
popped out of his
head. The buzzard was
caught. And had to fly
straight on, just
as the monkey told him.
And that bird did not
come back here. for a long
time. A buzzer
took a monkey for a ride in the air. The
monkey thought that everything was on the
square. The buzzer tried to throw the
monkey off his back. The monkey grabbed
his neck and said, Now listen, Jack.
Straighten up and fly right.
Straighten up and fly right.
Straighten up and fly right.
Cool down papa, don't you blow your top?
Ain't no use in divin'.
What's the use of jivin'?
Straighten up and fly right.
Cool down papa, don't you blow your top?
Whoa, dear,
you know that long
ago and one
What a beautiful horse. What are they
doing, Dad?They're getting them ready for
the race. Is he a jockey?Yeah.
Why is the jockey so small?Well, they
have to be small and light so the horse
can go as fast as possible.
Oh, wow. Look at him go.
What's the name of the horse?Miss
Olakoppa, two-year-old filly
chestnut. I wish I could be a
jockey. Did you know that in the early
days of horse racing in America, most of
the jockeys were black? And one of the
most famous jockeys who ever raced was
Isaac Murphy. He was born
on a farm in the days before cars and
airplanes were invented. And
the only way that people could get around
was by horse and buggy.
As an able boy, he always wanted to be a
jockey. He won his first race
when he was 14.
In 1884, Isaac Murphy won his first
Kentucky Derby. As a matter of fact,
he won again in 1890.
And again the next year.
He seemed to have a natural feeling for
horses, as if he were born to ride.
Three Kentucky Derbies all together.
Isaac Murphy was the best jockey the
world has ever known.
What do you want to

grow up What
do you want to be
I want to take out the one side at this
time, so we're going to take the second
through the fifth glands on the left
side right now. And her blood work, how's
that?Blood work's all normal, within the
normal ranges, and
she's a 12-year-old
femaleMy name is Nancy
Brown. I'm a veterinarian. The dog
that we have today is an old female.
Surgery is a lot of fun because when you
work with an animal in that particular
area of medicine, you get to work with
your hands, you get to work with
different kinds of instruments, you have
the feeling that you're doing something
for the animal to make them feel better,
and that the final result will be much
better than when the animal first came
into the hospital. Dr. Brown, call 3-5.
Dr. Brown, 3-5, please. All the people
sitting in all the chairs are people that
own animals that they brought in for us
to look at. They're all waiting their
turn until there's a doctor available.
Many animals are here because man needs
them and people get a lot out of having
them. Did you just get your cat?
Yes. And how has he been
since you've had him?Is he healthy?Well,
I'm not sure that's why I brought him
here. He's eating these plants.
Is it all right? No, it's really not.
He should eat cat food and nothing else.
ok So if he's eating your plants or
chewing on your rugs or eating needles
or yarns, you shouldn't let him do it.
Why are you looking in his mouth?Because
I want to make sure that he's got nothing
in there that shouldn't be and that his
teeth look healthy, that his gums look
healthy. OK, now I'm just going to feel
his belly and see if I can feel anything
that shouldn't be there or anything
abnormal. What do you do all
day?Well, part of my day I examine
animals that people bring in, like you.
And part of my day I look at animals in
the hospital. And part of my
day I do surgery, and and part of my day
I go to meetings. Do you just examine
dogs and cats?I chose to
just examine dogs and cats. Now, there
are a lot of veterinarians, and they do a
lot of different things. Some take care
of cows and horses, large farm animals.
Some work in zoos, and you can
almost pick whatever you want to do. I
think Mars is ready to go home.
This is a ward in which we keep the
animals that have been brought in that we
feel are sick enough and need to be
hospitalized and taken care of.
I come in here and I take a look at them
every day. I take their temperatures. I
give them any kind of care that they
specifically need.
Come on, stand up. Stand up.
Each day when we look at the animals, we
have the idea that perhaps they're
getting a little bit better and that
we're doing some good for them that they
couldn't have gotten elsewhere. Come
on. Come on, silly thing. Come on, Jason.
When was his surgery?About two days ago.
Okay. Come on, Jason. The more that you
work with animals, the more that you
realize that each animal is different
from the other. You have to think and
react differently to each animal that's
in front of you. Let me look. Let me
look. That's a baby. Let me look in.
I guess the fun of the whole thing is
that when an animal comes in and he's not
feeling well, that it's a great big
puzzle. And you have different tests that
you've run, and you have to put the whole
thing together, solve the riddle, and
send the animal home better than he was
when he came in. Bye, Bobby.
See you tomorrow. Bye.
How do you find yourself? With our
very own voices and our very own hands.
Sing a little louder. How do you find
yourself?With our very own
voices and our very own hands. Hi, my
name is Anna Nai. And my name is Wu Yun
Soo Hu, and these are drawings that were
done by the Chantown Planning Council
kids. And these are voices telling about
them. I like American
food, like
steaks, hamburgers, french
fries, spaghetti and
meatballs.
And I love Chinese food too. And that's
what we have mostly at my house.
We get nice fresh fruits and vegetables,
and then we cook all kinds of delicious
things. Umm At our
house, we usually use chopsticks to
eat. We have dim
sum, dumplings, fish,
some rice, and
tea. We get duck
and some meat cakes. And
then we have spinach or string beans.
And then we top it off with some soup.
Chinese soup. Mmm. Hoseg,
that means so good.
Besides special foods, we have special
holidays. We celebrate American
holidays and Chinese holidays.
My favorite holiday is New Year. It's
really a great time.
There's a parade with dragons and
firecrackers.
The dragon dances to frighten evil
spirits out of homes. And
the firecrackers are to scare away evil
spirits too.
I like New Year's because I
get lots of money and boy am I rich.
My grandparents and everyone come over,
and kids get lychee, lucky money from
grownups. This is so kids will have money
for the new year because they've been
good kids.
It's nice to do all the things other kids
do. And some special things because we're
Chinese-Americans.
Real people, I'd like
to introduce you to some real
people.
Real
people.
This story is about me, Karen Sato, and
my friend Jan. It started because of my
middle name.
Hi, Yucky! Hey!
That's mean!
I know why they said it.
Ms. Burger put my picture on the bulletin
board, and I put my middle name there.
You mean your middle name is Yucky?
No, it's Zakia.
It's Y-U...
K-I-E.
Yukie is a Japanese name. My
mother and father couldn't think of a
name, so my grandmother sent a
letter, and it said to name me Snow
Child, because in Japan, it was
just about to snow.
So they named me Yukie,
Snow Child. That's really pretty.
I really like it, but it's so hard to say
Yukie. I can say Ukiah.
It's not hard. What is your middle name?
MacDougall. MacDougall?What
does that mean?I don't know. I wish I
had a name like...
Janet... Umm
Sherbert!
I wonder what Tom's middle name is.
Let's go find out. Yeah.
Contact! Ah
That won't work. It only
turns once. Let's see. Battery's in here,
right?Um..
no. Not yet. Tom... What is your
name?Jason.
Jason! Don't say it so loud.
Next door neighbor's got a big dog. His
name's Jason too.
Karen's middle name is Akia. It means
snow child. Snow child?Because she was
born in winter. Carlos,
what's your middle name?Hernando.
It's a movie star in Mexico. What
about you, Alex?Wing Xing. It's in
Chinese. What does it mean?It means
forever famous. Wow.
Oh, hello dear. Hello.
Do you have a middle name?Yes, dear, I
have a middle name. Do you want to know
what it is?Yes. It's Alicia.
Alicia. Does that mean anything?I'm not
so sure, but it's a pretty name, don't
you think so?My mother thought it was
pretty and she thought I ought to have
it. What's your middle name?Tyron.
It's named after a dragon. A dragon?
My middle name is Dunia. It means -- It's
an African name. It means the whole
world. What a great name. I
forgot. Marie.
Marie. Marie. We're cousins. We got to be
my grandma.
My middle name?Samuel.
I think it comes from the Bible.
My middle name's Geronimo. I got it from
my grandfather. It's also a name of
a great Indian chief. Uh, Charles?
I I think that means strong.
I wonder what his middle name is. What's
yours name?Herbert. Where did it come
from?
What?Ah, my middle name is
Wilfred. That was my grandfather's
name, and it means peace-loving.
And that's what I am. Are
you guys Mrs. Burger if we can do middle
names in school?Yeah. Then I could
tell everybody that my middle name isn't
Yucky, it's Yukia. And it
means no child. Yeah.
Hi, this is Woody with something dandy
called Hookaya, New York. Coconut candy.
It's a treat from the Philippines. So
let's start to make it. By all means, we
need half cup of sugar, brown or white.
Three tablespoons of water. Have you got
that right?
And two cups of packaged coconut that's
grated.
Now we're ready to cook. Aren't you glad
you waited?
Now, I know you know what the ingredients
are, but you need one more thing before
you start. You need an older person who
knows what's what to help you out when
the going gets hot. Now boil the sugar
and water to make a syrup.
Stir it until it makes a thread when
dropped from aDon't
stop too soon.
When it's time, drop the coconut into the
pan, then stir, stir, stir until it
thickens and can make a ball when dropped
from a spoon on a well-greased pan, but
not too soon.
Now let it cool and you're in for a
treat. coconut candy that can't be
beat!
Americans from the Philippines say,
Megaling, megaling, which is their way of
saying it's good. Really good ol' boy. So
now that it's cool, eat and enjoy
Philippine coconut candy! Mm-hmm
Mercy, what happened to you?
I was in a fight. This kind of thing
never happened until those new kids moved
here. Who picked you up like that?
My sister. All kinds
of vegetables All kinds
of vegetables
All kinds of
vegetables To make
a vegetable soup
And now, today's adventure of Outer
Scope One. The secret.
We thought we were landing back on Earth.
But now it sure doesn't look that way.
What, What are they, Eleanor? It beats
me. I can't imagine.
Welcome, welcome. Glad to see you, folks.
I guess this can't be Earth.
But where are we?
What do you know? They don't answer our
friendly greetings. Not a peep out of
them. I guess our gorgeous golden color
kind of knocked their eyes out. You bet
we stunned 'em. We're the most
scintillating super sight in outer space.
Beauty like ours only grows on
trees. Yep. There's no one like us
around. Hey, did you hear that, Cynthia?
They're even more stuck up than you are.
Oh, Wagger, leave Cynthia alone. We've
got to stick together. Thanks, Eleanor.
Now listen here, Edgar. You know
perfectly well I have nothing in common
with those creatures at all. That's true,
they're lots friendlier than you are. Oh,
I'm just kidding you, Cynthia. Well, I
certainly hope so. What do you think they
want?Shh, let's listen.
Why so shy, strangers?Come on out
and say hello. The more the merrier.
And are we merry? You'll love it here,
folks. We got plenty of sunshine, plenty
of laughs. Don't you worry. I'll make you
feel right at home. They seem okay to
me. Yeah, they look harmless enough.
Maybe they can help us. Maybe they can
tell us how to get home. Maybe they can.
Let's find out.
Hey, uh, excuse me. Just speak up,
sweetheart, loud and clear.
Uh, we're lost, and we want to get back
to Earth again. Could you please tell us
where it is?Lambie Pie! We're sorry,
but we don't know the joint. Oh, gee, are
you positive? It's a very big planet.
Yep. No such place around these parts.
Boy, are we sunk. Cheer up, honey.
You couldn't have picked a better spot to
land. Yeah, sure. We'll
show you the sights, take your arm, give
your thrill. Big deal.
Perk up, sugar!I'll tell you what. We'll
let you in on the secret. Oh boy,
oh boy, she'll like that! The secret.
That's the ticket. What secret?
Get a load of this, honey bun. We found
the secret of happiness.
Happiness? You sure could use some of
that. What's the secret?We can't
tell you, honey. You've got to see it for
yourself. So you and your pals
just pop on down to the ground and we'll
show it to you.
Let's do it. I want to learn their
secret. Oh, sure. The secret of
happiness. I never heard of such a dumb,
phony-sounding secret in my entire life.
Dumb or not. At least it's a chance to
pick up some information. Right. We won't
learn anything staying here. Sure, what
can we lose?Plenty. Aw, come
on, let's go. Well, suit yourself.
I plan to stay right here and stand
guard. Me and Betty. I'll stay,
too. I've had enough adventures.
So where are they?
Hello again! Hi there!
Sure glad you folks took us up on our
offer. Lambie pies, you won't regret it!
Where's the other one?The one who was
green. Oh, that's my cousin,
Glow. It's this way, big boy.
He's still a young thing. Not ripe yet,
if you know what I mean. Not beautiful
gold all over the way we are.
Naturally, Glow decided to catch
up on his sunshine. Okay, so now we
know about Glow. Tell us about you.
I go by the handle of Squeezle. Pleased
to meet ya. Now me, they call
Goldie, and you can see
why. What about the secret?
The secret! Just stick with our
theories and you'll see for yourselves.
What kind of creatures are you, anyway?
Get this, kiddo. We're none other than
the tree treats. The most glorious
golden globes in the universe.
Honeybuns, just feast your eyes on
us. Note our perfect round shape.
A Treat-Treat trademark! Just
sniff our fragrant perfume!
Ah, there's nothing like us anywhere. Are
there more of you Treat-Treats?Yes,
indeedy! Countless more!
All kissin' kin! All livin' in
bliss! Yes-eree, dearies, we Treat-Treats
are the happiest folks alive. We've got
it all. Gorgeous looks.
A luscious place to live.
Sunshiny skies. And best of all, we've
got... The Yunyuns!
What are the Yunyuns?Why, Sugar,
they're the secret of our happiness. Oh,
the secret! That's right, honey.
And in just two shakes, you'll see the
Yunyuns for yourselves. Just
toodle along with us, dearies.
Hey, look! It's nighttime over there!
Get set for a trip to happiness,
sweeties! We're just in time! Why, it
looks like it's here!
To be continued. Next
time, it's showtime.
What do you want to be
when you grow up?
What do you want to
be?
Hi, I'm Shiro Oishi. I teach judo.
I think that punching everybody and
k*lling each other in the movie is
ridiculous. Studying judo is...
Not violent. It's a lot of fun, and we
can enjoy just being ourselves.
Up quick, more chin down. Ready,
go!
Let's go slowly, a little too fast, you
people. Ready?Swift. Go.
Look. Itch. Ach. Itch.
One of the things that I enjoy in my life
is painting. I studied a long time
to do this. Everything
in our lives is collected and needs
balance. And
Robert, show me seoinage.
Okay, very good. Do again. After throw,
you can fold open. All right? Are you
ready?Are you ready?
You can do better than that, all right?
Let's go. Do , all right?
OK, that's very, very good. Very, very
good. One more time.
OK, one more time. Do again.
Turn your face. OK, arm
straight. And turn your face,
which is your throat, all right?
Some of us are going to be big and some
small, but it doesn't matter if you
are in harmony with yourself. The way of
judo is to learn how to use
your partner's weight and strength for
yourself. First, we
must learn about balance.
Everyone has their center of gravity.
And once we find it and
feel ourselves in balance, then
we know where and how we
stand. Then we find out
about our person's balance and we
play with it.
Until we find it and then
throw. Now what
about being thrown?It's the same
as throwing. It doesn't matter because
we are in balance. And as
we find our harmony, we are
at peace with ourselves
and confident.
And in this confidence...
We have fun.
It's time to tell
a story
It's
storytelling
time
John Henry, he could hammerHe could
whistle, he could sing. Went
to the mountain early in the morning just
to hear his hammering. Lord, Lord, just
to hear his hammering. Just to
hear his hammering. Lord, Lord, just to
hear his hammering. When John
Henry was a little baby sitting
on his daddy's knee. Picked
up a hammer and a little piece of steel,
said Hammer be the death of me, Lord God.
Yes, Hammer be the death of me. Yes,
Hammer be the death of me, Lord, Lord.
Yes, Hammer be the death of me. Well,
John Henry's family needed money.
Said he didn't have but a dime. If you

get it from the man in the mine. Lord,

Well, the captain said to John Henry, I
wanna bring me a steam drill 'round.
Gonna bring me a steam drill out on the
job. Gonna whah that steel on down, Lord,
Lord, gonna whah that steel on down.
I go whoop that steel on down, Lordy,
Lordy, go whoop that steel on down.
Well, John Henry said to his shaker,
Shake or what, don't you sing Throwing
Listen to the cold steel ring Lord, Lord
Yes, listen to the cold steel ring Oh,

My name is Julia Scissors. And my
name is Rubberhead. I can cut a piece of
paper. I can draw on it with lead. I'm a
happy winner, Snappy. I'm fine for any
line. If you learn the way to use it. And
you can have a real good time
rub-a-dub-dub. What are we making today,
Rubberhead?I'm not sure, Julia. Maybe
Ruler knows. Ruler?Oh, Ruler?
What strange bird calls.
Ah, the cry of the rubber-headed yellow
belly. Look here, you woodpecker's diet
delight! What are we making today?Do you
think I would tell a secret?Break a
confidence?Spill the beans?Do you think I
would squeal? In other words... You don't
know!
Hey, look! The art of tie-dyeing!
Tie-dyeing?I never heard of a tie-dyeing!
I've heard of shoes k*lling. I have a
jacket I wouldn't be caught dead in. No,
No everybody. Tie-dyeing. That's
short for tying and dyeing. As in
knotting. And spotting. If you
do it right, you can get wonderful
results.
Real cool, Mr. Amiritis. You're the host
with the most. Well, Well I do think it
looks rather nice. Smart. Can we
make something like that, Mr. Amiritis?
Why, certainly, Ruler. We can tie-dye a
T-shirt. That's very popular today. How
do we start?Choose your favorite color.
That's the first thing to do. Do I hear a
suggestion?Okay, I pick blue!
Take a gallon of water, a quarter cup of
dye, two tablespoons of vinegar. Who
wants to mix them?Aye He's
gone stir-crazy!I have the
strangest feeling that there's something
I've forgotten. Of course, we need a
T-shirt. One that's made of cotton.
Are you ready, Julia? It's as good as
done! We'll tie off the sections that
we want to keep white... with these
pieces of string tied very tight. One
over here will look very attractive. And
here and here... I love to keep active!
What do you do when a tying is through?I
dip it in this liquid so we can make it
blue. It dries a little lighter than the
color that you see, so make it one shade
darker than you'd like it to be. Now
rinse it in cold water, hang it up to
dry, and we'll see the results, by and
by. Tie-dyeing's really popular, isn't
it, Mr. Amiridis?Indeed. Why, it was
popular in India and Japan hundreds of
years ago. I bet they used it to make
beautiful fabrics and clothing. That's
right. And then tie-dyeing traveled to
West Africa, and kept traveling around
the world until it came to the United
States. And lo and behold, it's as
exciting today as it was hundreds of
years ago! And just my size!
Well, not exactly.
Why don't you make a new friend,
make a new friend, make a new friend?
Today, why don't you make a new
friend, make a new friend, make a new
friend today.
My name is Roberto Gandare. I am
San Juan, Puerto Rico. The
other day when I returned home from
school, I did my homework and everything
else I had to do. I saw my friend
Tito. Leaving his house also,
I asked Tito if he wanted to go with me
to a place we know. He said yes.
So we got ready to go with my brother
Javier. Then we went
downstairs and left the building.
We climbed a little wall and we're on our
way. We got to a place from
where you could see our goal. We went
down a slope. and got to a place where
there was a map of San Juan. It
was a long way around, but luckily we
knew a shortcut. We had to walk up
the ramp of an old Spanish fort,
and then cross by some tools. Then
we walked through a tunnel.
We went by a place where there was a
cuesta, a steep trail.
We reached the lagoon. We caught small
animals and small fish. It was very
interesting to see how they move their
quills. We had to stop
resting and go on. Then we found our
goal. There we went swimming.
We splashed water on each other.
Then we got to the most important part.
We climbed the rock that was there and
jumped in the water from this rock.
First me. Then Tito,
then Javier. It was a tremendous
feeling. When we finished, we started
watching the sun and realized that
the day was coming to an end. So we
packed our clothes and started leaving.
We were happy, but in a way, we were also
sad. And I knew that we were never
going to forget this day.
Real people. I'd like
to introduce you to some real
people. Real
people. My name
is Alex. Have you ever been to a Chinese
restaurant?I go to one every night.
You want to know why?Hey, Alex,
you come to my house Saturday and sleep
for supper?Nah, I got to work Saturday.
Work?Yeah, at my restaurant.
What do you do?Me and my sister help my
mom, Pa. Hey, why don't you come with
Saturday to the restaurant?Do I have to
cook?No, I just eat. I'll
make a special dinner for us.
Hi, Carlos.
Alex. Hi, Carlos. Hi.
That's my pa over there. Hi. Hi
And my
mom's over there. Hi. Carlos.
Carlos. Mexican. Speak
English, Mom. What did she say?
Oh, nothing. Hey, let's make our special
dinner. Cut these up like
this, okay?
Yeah, he'll like it. You
always cut up bok choy sideways like
that. Bok choy. That's
right, that's bok choy.
You could tell him yourself.
Carlos, be careful.
Oops.
What's this?Tofu. What's
it made out of?Beans. It's bean cake.
Beans. We eat beans all the time.
We call them rejores.
What's this?
Um.. Chorizos, right?Lobcho.

Lap Chong. Good.
Okay, okayDon't you ever talk
Chinese?I talk Spanish to my folks.
You talk Spanish at home?Yeah. It's great
when you can talk two different
languages. Hey, let's start
cooking.
Bring that green leafy stuff first.
You mean that bok choy?Yeah, the bok
choy.
This is bean sprouts. Put some peas in
next.
I hope it's good. Don't worry, it's going
to be really good.
How do you say delicious in Chinese?
Jose. Jose?
Jose.
Hi, this is Woody with something dandy
called Bucaya, New York. Coconut candy,
it's a treat from the Philippines. So
let's start to make it. By all means, we
need half cup of sugar, brown or white,
three tablespoons of water, have ya gotIs
that right?
And two cups of packaged coconut that's
grated.
Now we're ready to cook. Aren't you glad
you waited?
Now, I know you know what the ingredients
are, but you need one more thing before
you start. You need an older person who
knows what's what to help you out when
the going gets hot. Now, boil the sugar
and water to make a syrup.
Stir it until it makes a thread when
dropped from a spoon. Don't
stop too soon.
When it's time, drop the coconut into the
pan, then stir, stir, stir until it
thickens and can make a ball when dropped
from a spoon on a well-greased pan, but
not too soon!
Now let it cool and you're in for a
treat! Coconut candy that can't be
beat!
Americans from the Philippines say,
Megaling, megaling, which is their way of
saying it's good. Really good, oh boy. So
now that it's cool, eat and enjoy
Philippine coconut candy. Mm-hmm
Why don't you make a new
friend, make a new friend?Make a
new friend today.
Why don't you make a new
friend, make a newmake a
new friend today.
Can I play too, hardcoreNo,
Pee-wee. You're too small.
I've got it.
I can't reach it.
Hey, Pee-wee,
I was just the right size.
