today too there are lots of friends who

look eager to get inspired now how do

you suggest we get inspired today you

know how will we get a good

Maple isn't being very kind today she

asked song birdie and I to leave the

forest

immediately leave the forest but that's

where you live it's where your nest is I

wish I could help make things better oh

would you puy would you really help us

sounds like Miss Maple isn't seeing the

forest through the trees come on kids

let's go see if we can

help yooo Trio it's py I have the

children here with me today and two of

my other very special friends are with

hello just as I thought it's two-part

Harmony instead of three-part Harmony I

hear birchwood's voice and I hear oki's

voice but I don't hear Miss Maple's

voice I think we're on to something here

it's time to go out on the limb boys and

girls Miss Maple how are you today today

h am I barking up the wrong tree Miss

Maple does anybody have an idea about

how I might get Miss Maple to talk to me

oh you say if I try being kind she'll

open up her branches to me that's a

tremendous

idea you know Miss Maple I think you're

the most serpy Sweet Tree in the

forest who me why papy what a kind kind

thing to say I haven't been feeling very

kind today myself why is that Miss Maple

Flutterby was visiting song bird's nest

at the crack of dawn and they were being

too noisy so I asked them to be quiet

when they wouldn't I sosed them away off

my Branch I even asked them to leave the

forest

forever now I'll probably never see them

again they're there miss map well maybe

you weren't as kind as you would have

liked to be but you could try to be

kinder to them next time How will there

be a next time when they've left the

forest

forever and all because of my horribly

unkind

mistreatment we're still in the forest

Miss Maple and we heard what you said we

W being very kind but we were so noisy

we should all treat others the way we

would like to be treated ourselves and

since we all want others to be kind to

us we need to be kind to them

too oh flutter by song birdie welcome

home papy you are truly One of a

Kind all this talk about kindness has

given me a drawing idea would you like

to draw a picture everybody are you

inspired like I am are you all set with

your pencils or your markers and a piece

of paper to draw on oh well then let's

begin today's drawing boys and girls is

going to be a drawing of a little boy

holding a mirror you know when I looked

in the mirror today you know what I

saw I saw

me okay let's get started I'm going to

start out by drawing the little boy's

face I always like starting with the

head first okay here we go I'm gonna

start out by drawing his nose which is

just a little curved line like that good

now I'm going to start doing his hair so

follow along it's a curved line like

that and another small line there and

another one here his hair's his hair is

kind of messy so we'll we'll just draw

like this with some lines okay that

shows that his hair is kind of messy all

right

and we're going to put a line there and

we'll bring a long curved line and stop

right there

good now let's put the mouth on him

because he has a mouth just like

everybody else does we have a mouth and

we'll start by putting one straight line

like that good that was pretty easy

wasn't it now we're going to do another

small line right next to that one so

follow along and watch where I put my

point okay here we go right there

and stop

good now let's connect it right here and

stop there good now we have to do his

body because his head's sitting on

something isn't it his head's sitting

somewhere and it's got to be on his

shoulders all right here we go starting

at this point bring it over and bring it

over and stop right

there now at that point we're going to

come down just a little bit and stop

right there we're drawing a sleeve right

now okay bring it over and stop there

that's looking pretty good now let's

draw the back of this little boy and

that's that line starts right here and

we bring it down and and right there

very

good now we're going to bring another

small line right downward like that and

we're going to connect them here we

go that's very good now we have to do

his legs so we'll start we'll start

right where I put my point okay you have

to watch where py puts his point because

that's where you have to start okay

good and I'm going to start right there

and stop and I'm going to start right

there and stop

good okay now he needs legs doesn't he

we'll bring a line down starting right

here at this point and stop and another

line on the other side and bring it down

and stop right there

good now we're going to connect it just

like

that all right now we're going to draw

one line right in the center just like

that good and we're going to draw a

small line right here okay now can

anybody tell me what's next what do you

see did you say Feet Shoes sneaks you're

all right here we go we're going to

indicate just some feet he's a cartoon

so we don't have to be

perfect good and we'll draw another one

right over

here good he's got two feet

now all right oh you know I just noticed

something on the boy's face there on his

head doesn't have any ears does he I

guess he can't hear us until we draw

them so we we'll put ears on him okay

here we go starting right here let's

just put a a backward C just like that

good and curved line to kind of show the

inside of his

ear all right I'm really liking what

this is turning this is looking real

good I'm very happy with

this oh he needs eyes how silly of papy

he needs eyes doesn't he okay we'll put

one dot just like that and a curved line

to show his eyebrows very

good now now I said he was holding a

mirror didn't I excuse papy I said said

he was holding a mirror so we're going

to have to show his arm all right his AR

his arm is holding that mirror so follow

along we're going to draw the little

boy's arm here we go we'll put one line

here like this and another one right

below it and

stop now we're going to draw his hand so

follow along very

carefully here we go there's one knuckle

and two Knuckles and three knuckles

good okay does anybody have any idea

what's

missing did you say the

mirror you're so smart boys and girls

here we

go I'm going to start right here and

bring this line all the way down and

around and stop take a close look at

that and follow right along all right

take your time and we're going to start

over here and bring that line on the

opposite side side down and

stop very good now let's connect

it good now we have to draw the inside

of the mirror don't we all right so

we're going to start right here and just

follow

along and make kind of a rounded

Square there we go it's like a square

with rounded

Corners H we have to draw his face now

doesn't he because he's there's a

reflection in inside that mirror all

right and that should be his face let's

draw his

nose good and his

mouth good all right now he needs his

eyes in there too because you'd be able

to see his eyes and that's just two dots

one

dot two dots and now we're going to draw

his hair you can see part of his hair in

the mirror so it's just those little

lines like we were talking about earlier

there we go just a few lines like

that

good well that's our picture of a little

boy holding a mirror what is the mirror

supposed to

reflect good question Miss

Maple okay pitcher do your

stuff

I guess there can be lots of feelings

inside one person I know there are some

days when I feel like I wake up on the

wrong side of the forest that's true for

everyone Oki but all we can do is try

our best to be kind if we all do that

the world will be an extraordinary place

would' like to sing a song together

about kindness we would idea yes

yes oh sing a song I'm right here papy

you have a song for us about kindness I

sure do then let's hear

it treat others like

yourself the way you'd like to feel

exactly how they should treat you is the

same kindness to deal kindness is a

gentle thing it's how to treat all

friends we should really think and think

on how we should treat them if someone

hurts your feelings and it really gets

you

down remember how bad it feels so you

don't turn around and make someone else

pay and make them feel the same way

instead use your head or better use your

heart make a choice to not hurt them and

give friends a new start kindness is a

good thing it never tries to harm it

always tries to greet our friends with

Open Hearts and arms treat others like

yourself the way you'd like to feel

exactly how they should treat you is the

same kindness to deal kindness is a

gentle thing

it's how to treat all friends we should

really think and think on how we should

treat

them thanks a lot Sam see you again next

what a harmonious way to end our visit

with Trio and friends now I believe it's

time to head back to papy's cabin ready

boys and girls happy there's something

little saplings before you go ready

wowe that's the only way to fly why I'm

glad to have you back pppy and that goes

for the children too thank you very

kindly for your kind words Elmer I guess

you learned something from our visit to

Trio and friends today you might say I

kind of turned over a new Leaf well that

sounds admirable Elmer how would you

like to help us learn how to color the

pictures we drew that's just the kind of

thing I do

best are your crayons all set to go if

not you can run and get them as fast as

she can or else you could use your

imagination and pretend to color in your

pictures pretending can be lots and lots

of fun okay then let's get

coloring let's begin by coloring this

little boy holding the mirror let let's

begin by coloring his shirt red okay

he's going to be wearing a a red shirt

and I'll take my red crayon here

somewhere oh here it

is and we're gonna color his shirt red

here we go oh it's a very bright

red almost looks like what they call

magenta that's the name of a color boys

and girls magenta it's more of a bright

pink kind of red very

bright we'll call it red it looks

red and we're going to do his shirt this

color it's a very I'm glad I picked this

color it's a very bright color it's very

pretty yes sir it

is okay don't worry about if your cray

breaks don't worry about it because you

can always see how papy is utilizing the

small piece see and I'm kind of holding

it on its side and I'm just filling it

in the the area like that doesn't have

to be a big crayon can be a little

crayon as as long as it it still has

a size left to it so I can hold it I can

color it just as good as a big piece

there we go there that's a very nice

color for his shirt I think I'd like to

do his shorts green red and green go

very nice

together and I'll start right

here and papy's bearing down on this

cray but not too hard you know sometimes

when py when when I bear down on my cray

it's snaps and that's when you see my

cray snap like it just did see it's

because I think I was bearing down on it

too hard so I'll try not to break my

crayons but if you do don't worry you

can still use

it there we go oh those two colors look

very nice together I'm very happy with

this color

combination and fill it in just like

that try and stay try and stay in the

lines as best you can and if you go

outside of the lines don't don't worry

about it because nobody's perfect all

right I think I'm going

to color the little boy

yellow just like that there we

go and I'm going to color his face in

yellow like

that look at that it's looking very good

okay I have to stop here oh I didn't do

it

there good now he's looking in the

mirror boys and girls he's looking in

the mirror and he's holding the mirror

right here which means he can see his

face in there it's just like when you

look in the mirror in the morning or

whenever you do your hair or whatever

and he can see a reflection that's

called a reflection so he'd see his face

in the mirror so we're going to use

yellow again because it's reflecting his

face

and we'll do that like that fill it in

yes fill it right in with yellow just

like I'm doing and take your time and

have fun with

it and you can use any color you'd like

but papy used yellow now I'm going to

color in his hair and I think orange

would be a very nice color for his

hair and I have to grab my orange orange

cray here okay here we go let's color in

his hair

orange

and I'm using another small piece but

it's working just

fine and you just kind of use the side

of your crayon like

this and slow and easy I'm just using

the side of my crayon and it's working

just fine there there we

go good now remember he's looking in the

mirror so we have to we have to show

that his hair is also reflecting in the

in the the mirror here too so right

above the yellow in the mirror let's

show his hair orange like

that

good all right what color should we do

the

mirror oh purple that's a good idea I

like the color

purple and let's start right

here and we'll color the the mirror

purple there we

go oh that's a pretty color I like that

a

lot I hope you like the colors I'm

choosing I'll bet you if you're choosing

different colors it looks just as good

as mine I know it

does I just know there are wonderful

artists out there watching right now and

here we go I'm almost finished finished

with this mirror and I'm going to stop

I'm going to leave a little white spot

there I always like to leave a little

white spot because it looks kind of

shiny when I do that okay what's missing

oh we didn't do his his shoes did we

what do you say we make his

shoes what color did you say brown well

that's not a bad idea we we'll make his

shoes Brown okay here we

go

and we'll just start coloring it in like

this brown

shoes brown shoes here we go and just

continue onward and I'm going to make

one of my famous little white shines

here a little white dot to make it look

like he's wearing shiny leather

shoes and let's do the same thing over

here very very good very good all right

and I'll do the same over here like that

okay now let's indicate uh some color

below where he's standing we'll make a

little Shadow so it looks like he's

standing on the ground right now he kind

of looks like he's floating around

doesn't it but when you put a shadow

beneath his feet it looks just like he's

standing there and I'm going to use the

gray cray okay here we

go and I'll

just indicate it right

here

good oh it's so much fun coloring with

you girls and

boys look at that there's a shadow looks

real

good okay let's take a look and see what

we have

good all those colors remind me of how

colorful Trio and Friends Forest is in

the Autumn when all the leaves turn

color that reminds me Pap do you know

why different trees are like different

dogs H I don't know Elmer why are

different trees like different dogs

because they all have different barks

oh my it's quarter to Orange it's time

to put papy away but I'll be back and I
