I was randomly looking at homes

in this whole area of Montecito,

and I saw this house pop up.

And as I began scrolling through
and looking at more pictures,

I started seeing some
photos of its historical past,

of some women out front of this
house, many, many decades ago.

It drew me in.

This house was calling to me for
something, in some psychic way.

And I couldn't get
rid of this feeling,

so I asked my researcher to
look into this house, this mansion.

And he started to
uncover "a ton of death."

A place where very strange
things are happening,

a place where
some people walk in,

and they want to
immediately walk out.

This house of
mystery called to us.

And we answered that call.

And we're here to investigate
in Montecito, California.

[Zak] There are things in this world
that we will never fully understand...

majestic, 8,200 square foot mansion,

is that for over a century,
it was home to generations

of Montecito's
wealthiest individuals.

Some of whom even died here.

And most recently, it has
become an independently-owned

hospice and
senior care facility,

where countless more
have spent their final days.

And because of the
strange occurrences here,

some of its former residents

have attempted to make
contact with the dead.

And as night draws near,

we are completely unaware of
what we are about to walk into,

and why this mysterious
place has called upon me.

David, uh, there's a
reason why we're here.

Every now and then,

it's as if something
reaches out,

and taps us on the shoulder
and says, "We invite you here."

And it usually means
there's a purpose.

Can you tell me,

how long have you
owned this mansion?

I've owned it 21 years.

When was this
built? What year?

Uh, 1885.

[Zak] This is a
very, very old home.

Inside this very home,
David ran the care facility

where countless spent
their last moments.

You bought this
home in the year 2000?



And can I ask you about this?

'Cause I thought,
when I heard about this,

maybe this was a reason why
I'm being called to this place.

What did you turn this
place into, in the year 2000?

We've used it in a
somewhat utilitarian way.

We did some, uh, surgery
recoveries for quite a while,

we had senior
care here for a bit.

Did you do hospice here as well?

- Some of them required hospice at the end, mm-hmm.
- Okay.

So there have been
people that have

passed on, in the home?

Oh, absolutely. Many of them
do that final thing in a hospital, but,

some of them just remained here.

Some of our most
prominent finished here.

- They did?
- Yeah.

[Zak] We now meet one
of David's former staff,

who was present during
several of these deaths.

She believes something was
with her during her time here.

Something that frightened her.

What connection do you
have to the mansion here?

I was working here, and I
taking care of the old people.

When I come here sometimes,
I feel like, something, in there.

Something like what?

Like, uh, somebody's with me.

- Somebody that's not of, uh, flesh and bone?

me next, creeps me out.

One already died when I
came helping, in the morning.

And then, he die at night.

My boss said, maybe I k*ll him,

and I say no, I've taken care of him,

Your boss said that
maybe you k*lled him?

- Yeah, and I say, no!

[Zak] This place
is very strange.

Eerie.

[Zak] Maria now tells me
about a very disturbing moment

that occurred right before
a man died in her care.

I saw one guy when
he almost ready to die.

[Maria] And, um...

He feel like that
he was suffering,

looking like, uh,
something in the ceiling.

Like, uh, he see somebody,
or something, and...

- Like, as if somebody was floating on the ceiling?
- Yes.

And he passed. That
was, like, his last moment.

-But you said he
was looking at... -Yes.

- Somebody on the ceiling.
- Mm-hmm. Yes.

[Zak] What could this
man have been looking at?

Could it be a spirit or entity from
deep within the property's history?

Back in the 1910's,
there was an unusual, uh,

uh, death in the home
by one of the owners.

An unusual death?

[David] Gertrude Bain, the wife
of a prominent Los Angeles man

who had bought this
place and fixed it up.

They say, caught
cold, or something, and,

died quickly, a couple of days.

-There's other questions around that,
and he... -Questions around her death?

Around her death, and, uh,
some of the social circumstances,

things that weren't solved.

[Zak] News accounts
show that Gertrude Bain,

a fixture of
Montecito's high society,

died from a sudden and mysterious
illness on June 22nd, 1916.

About a year earlier,

her daughter betrayed her
wishes and married a military man

for true love instead of wealth.

And I wonder, was Gertrude's
anger and heartbreak

over her daughter's
personal betrayal,

the sudden reason
for her demise?

Or, was this suspicious death

a result of something
more sinister?

We now hear about
another former owner,

who was also
shrouded in mystery.

Her name was Marguerite.

She was better known
as The Black Widow.

Did you hear about somebody

named The Black
Widow that lived here?

Yeah, uh, in the '50s,
part of the house's history,

was a woman, uh,
called Marguerite.

[Zak] Why did they call
her The Black Widow?

This was a very prominent
area and neighborhood,

and she was, in a sense,

going through the neighborhood,

and she was marrying
wealthy old men,

and they'd pass away, and she'd gain
their inheritance, and she'd move on.

Did she have anything to
do with them passing away?

[inhales]

[ghostly whisper]

[Zak] This place is weird.

I do not like the feeling
of this place at all.

[Zak] We suddenly learn
there are several rooms

in another building on the property
that we're not allowed to enter.

As we're trying to open
doors into this mansion's past,

we have to wonder why
these spaces remain closed.

- Aaron!
- [Aaron] Yeah?

Get up here.

[Zak] As I enter this room,

I see a flash image
of a very short man,

and it stuns me.

I saw him standing
right here, very short,

about the height
of where that lock is.

It was like an old
man, sunken-in face,

I saw this guy
standing right here.

[Zak] I immediately
roll my recorder,

to see if what I'd just
witnessed can be validated.

[Zak] Are you the
guy that told Maria

that you saw somebody
floating on the ceiling?

- [metallic sound]
- Oh...

[Aaron] Whoa, what?

Wait.

Stop.

All the way down.

- [Zak] What was that?
- That was loud.

- [Zak] It was loud.
- It was from out that way.

Is there somebody in here?

[Zak] As I continued
to review my recorder,

we hear what sounds like
someone trying to open the door.

[noise on recorder]

- Whoa. Shh, shh...
- That was outside, right there.

-That's where I saw... -Hey,
that's someone trying to get in...

That's where I saw him standing!

There is no wind outside.

[Zak] It seems as if our
presence in this room

has disturbed something
from this mansion's past.

It was like that.

That's where I saw him standing.

[Zak] We now meet
a psychic medium,

who has previously visited here.

She was absolutely shocked by
what she saw and encountered.

As soon as I enter the doorway,

I feel my chest expanding,
because it's so heavy.

[Stephan] The closer
you get to the front door,

you start feeling this...

like, thick energy, and you're
kinda pushing your way through it.

[Stephan] Right at the
front, as you come in,

there's a chair sitting there.

And she was picking up on somebody
she was calling the gatekeeper.

Right there, in that
chair, sits a gatekeeper.

[Van] It's a male energy.

He sits here, all the time,
takes care of the house.

[Van] But he'll come around...

[Billy] Hold on. It's going up.

- It is going up.

Went from zero, it's 1.5...

- [Van] Yeah...

[Zak] Billy begins documenting
very abnormal EMF readings

in the exact chair where the psychic
states the gatekeeper is sitting.

As I go closer to the chair...



I wonder if it's not a
residue that he was there?

This is the first readings we've
even had when we came in here.

[Aaron] He's security.

Did she pick up other
spirits in the place?

Yes.

[Van] Down in this area,
which is the ballroom,

there's spirits that are
coming around right now.

are hanging out in this mansion?

So she was just sensing

suspect the reason

why Van Dorn sensed
so many spirits here,

has to do with an event
from nearly two decades ago

that involved family members
of those who resided here,

when this was still
an active care facility.

The most prominent thing
that I could tell you about

would be the seance that
they, uh, performed in here.

- They did a seance?
- [David] The family members.

Right here, in the
center of this room.

[David] It was about 2004, 2005.

They came down, on
their own, their own volition,

there wasn't a
professional with them,

and did the candles, and did a
circle, and did an entire seance.

And it worked.

What do you mean, it worked?

They called for, um, if
there was any spirits,

if anybody was here,
anybody with them.

And there was a, uh,
there was a response.

- They felt something entering?

They got somebody.

the house for the next couple of days.

malevolent into this mansion?

all that we've learned about
the hauntings at this location,

I suddenly discover something

which re-awakens the
initial sense of mystery

and deep connection
that I have to this mansion.

look at this photo,

there is nothing in this
photo that looks any different

other than us sitting here,
and not all these people.

a lot of mysteries in this house.

There's a lot of energy here.

There's a lot of imprints here.

[Stephan] It's like the residents
never leave here, they just stay here.

Just like, these
people never left.

[Zak] Like they passed
here, and they stayed here.

- And they're still in there.

Something led

me, personally,
to this building.

[Zak] It called out,
and I answered its call.

We're here, at a building,

where so many different people

have seen and heard spirits

before their death, when
this was a care facility.

Because we were
told by the owner

that there was a seance
here, many years ago,

we are gonna do a seance.

But, to do a seance, I
need some other energy.

Uh, besides us four.

So, on this camera,
she doesn't know yet,

but on this camera is Lauren.

James has worked for

We haven't even
started our seance yet,

and one of my crew
is presenting activity

manifesting from their body.

to see if what we
just documented

presents any form
of risk to James.

Jeff will be monitoring

a thermal camera
from the stairs.

begins to flicker wildly,

and remember, moments ago,

we captured this
unexplained and very strange

ball of light
manifesting out of James

while he was feeling affected.

unexplained knocking sounds

come from up the stairs,
near where Jeff is located.

scratching sounds in front of me,

and then all of a sudden,
they just completely stop.

When you got close
to it, it just stopped.

What did you hear?

I heard a couple of
knocks, and it felt like

something was scratching
up and down the wall.

And then it got louder, as
you got closer, it got louder.

And then all of a
sudden, hit that,

and then that door right there,
there's a door, and it creaked.

- Oh, the little door?
- [Jeff] You see it?

- Dude.
- [Jeff] That door is freaking open, Zak.

down immediately

to see if our seance
can elicit more activity.

we heard the scratching.

And is it the same spirit that

the scratching sounds?

I head back to the
table and immediately try

to communicate with this
spirit using the Polterpod.

speaking over multiple sweeps,

which eliminates any
possibility of interference,

and speaks multiple words.

They just lit up by itself.

light turns on by itself,

what a spirit tells us.

Jay, what did I tell ya
earlier today from my dream,

the words that were
repeated three times?

[Aaron] What word?

I woke up to someone saying,
"Burn her! Burn her! Burn her!"

[Zak] Don't be
afraid of us. "Coffin!"

- [Billy] Coffin?
- [Zak] It just said, "Coffin."

[Zak] Can you tell
us where the coffin is?

[Zak] "Ceiling!"

[James] What?

[Zak] I just said, "Can you
tell us where the coffin is?"

And it said,
"Ceiling," above us.

- What?
- I just said, "Can you tell us where the coffin is?"

And it intelligently
answered me, "Ceiling."

All right, guys,
I think we've got

a good amount
of activity so far.

I think this opened
the doorway up to them.

[Billy] Oh, yeah.

[Zak] Lauren and James, I'll go

And as we start setting up our X cameras and
nerve center in the back of the property,

we incredibly hear a man's
cough come from upstairs.

- Hey, Jay.
- Yeah.

-[man coughs] -Oh,
that was a cough!

- What [bleep] for?
- That was a cough.

[Zak] One of our X cameras
rolling captures this cough.

[man coughs]

Okay, so we just did the seance.
We just got a lot of incredible activity.

Right now, the entire
house is complete dark.

We've got a series of X cameras
running throughout the entire mansion.

Jay is monitoring that.

We have already captured
what sounds like a guy,

like literally a man inside
that room over there.

It's incredible what's
happening right now!

I'm wearing this vest.

It's an awesome device.

Our equipment tech, Jeff, who
has been seriously affected,

he is still outside.

He designed us this.

And we're gonna use it.

And what is is a
regular vision camera.

There's an infrared
camera and a depth camera

that will capture anomalies,
mists, fogs, things like that.

All three of these cameras
are synced together,

rolling simultaneously
through this g*n.

Aaron is also wearing a vest.

And on that vest, he
has the XLS camera.

This is a place full
of multiple spirits,

many of which we've
already made contact with.

head upstairs

to investigate the
unexplained man's cough

we just captured
on the X camera.

pricklies on my arm.

- Yeah, and then my chest just started hurting so bad.

hearing a raspy voice on the stairs.

My chest mount shadow cam rig also
contains seven directional microphones

and was able to
capture what we heard.

[Billy] Ooh, I just got
pricklies on my arm.

heading up the stairs again.

As we head upstairs, I capture
this light anomaly on the IRCamera.

And at the same
time, you can also see

this same anomaly appear
on the depth camera.

Then watch as another
black anomaly appears

on the depth camera
inside the mirror on the wall.

When we were downstairs,
we kept hearing a man in here

as clear as I'm talking to you
right now, a man coughing.

This is the room where
we were told from Maria

who worked at the care facility.

She told us that a
man was here dying.

She was caring for him.

He didn't want her care. He was
looking at something on the ceiling,

what she described
as an entity, a figure.

He was suffering, looking like,
um, something on the ceiling.

During the seance, he came
through and said, "Fire," "Coffin."

I said, "Where's the coffin?"
