What's the story you wish born? What's

this you're dreaming of?Such a

big imagination on such

a little part?What's the

story you wish born?Do you think it's

worth our love?The kind that

seems familiar, like a story

from above. Shake a

leg now, Wishbone Let's wag

another tail Sniffing

out adventure With Wishbone

on the drill Come on, Wishbone

What's the story of Wishbone?

What's the story of Wishbone?

What's the story of Wishbone?

Ah,

home is where the red chair is.

Everyone should have a big red chair

and a best friend like Joe and a squeaky

book and a food bowl.

Oh, look at little Joe.

Look at what a cute baby he was. I

know. He's grown up so fast, Wanda.

I can't believe you graduated from 8th

grade yesterday. Next year, he'll be in

high school. High school? That was a

long time ago. So long, I almost forgot

what it was like. Last night, I was

rummaging around the basement, looking

for my old high school yearbook. I

wonder what high school would be like for

Joe. Oh, I'm sure Joe's

headed for great things. You bet he is. I

taught him everything he knows. Wait a

minute. What's that strange smell?Ellen!

Ellen!What is it, Wishbone?Something

smells funny in the house, and it's not

me.

Sorry to bother you folks, but we've got

a broken gas line in the neighborhood.

Oh, no. It's not safe for you to stay in

your homes right now, so we're asking

everyone to please evacuate these few

blocks immediately. Evacuate?Oh,

my goodness. Everyone. It'll just be

for a couple of hours, ma'am. Oh, I need

to go down to theOh, Ellen, this is news.

What about my babies?Everyone, ma'am,

especially the kids. I met my

petunias. No need to panic, ma'am. You

can head into town if you like. We should

have it fixed by dinner. Okay, thank you.

Well, I guess we can head down to Pepper

Pete's. Oh, okay, well, you go ahead and

I'll meet you there later. Okay, great.

Ciao. OK, don't panic. First things

first. I'll just get my stuff.

Come on, Chair. We're going to go to

Peppa Pete's. Won't that be fun?Chair.

Come on, squeaky book. Don't worry,

Chair. I'll be back for you. How do you

like that? One minute I'm all comfortable

and happy. The next minute I'm driven out

of my home. You know, the

hero in a book called The Aeneid was

forced to leave his home too. The

Aeneid is an epic poem. Written around

the year 19 BC by the Roman poet

Publius Virgilius Mauro, Virgil to his

friends, it's the story of a noble

hero, Aeneas, who leads his people all

over the map in search of a new home. Our

story begins in the city of Troy at the

end of the Trojan w*r. The Greek enemy

came up with a pretty clever trick. They

built a gigantic wooden horse and hid

their soldiers inside it. Thinking the

w*r was over, the Trojans wheeled the

horse inside their city walls. In the

early morning, as all of Troy slept, the

horse opened up and boy were the Trojans

in for a surprise.

Meanwhile. The all-powerful gods

watched and planned the fate of the

mortals from up above. Let

me out. It's hard now. Let me out.

Despised Trojans.

Feel the wrath of Juno, queen of the

gods.

The fateful day has come. Troy

is doomed. Oh,

Jupiter. Great controller of the

skies. Why do you allow my

favorite, Aeneas and his people to be

defeated?Venus, dismiss your

fears. It is Aeneas's destiny to be

driven from Troy so that he may go to

Latium to be the founder of a great

empire. And I must wake him.

Aeneas, awake.

I must flee Troy and save your people.

Aeneas, awake. Huh

Five more minutes, Mom. I was having a

really weird dream about a horse. Whoa!

What's that sound?Oh, no. The Greeks are

back. I must defend my beloved Troy.

Come and get me, cowards! You face the

rest of it! Ow! Aeneas!

Defender of Troy. As soon as I

get outside, I'll do terrible battle.

This is not working. Aeneas. Yeah. Why

are you disobeying my command?Your king

is lost and Troy is in flames. Oh.

You must take your people to safety. Oh,

well, that that kind of changes things.

My father, Troy is lost. We must flee.

No, Aeneas. I am

old. This is my home.

No, Father. We must go and seek a new

place to call home. It is the will of the

gods.

I want a double pepperoni with mushrooms.

I want some breadsticks. Hey, guys. How

are you, man?All right. Hey. There you

go. Almost must be the place to be. Oh, I

wonder about that, Ellen. You believe the

gods are ghastly. Well, it looks like

we're going to be here for a while. Yeah.

Hey, Damont. I guess you got evacuated

too, huhWhat does it look like?So

where are your parents? They're busy. Hey,

guys.

Some drinks in the house for a couple

more of dough refugees. Thanks, Sam. Hey,

one for you too, Wishbone. Good start,

Sam. But where's the pizza?Hey, Joe,

isn't it great to finally be out of the

eighth grade?Yeah, I almost forgot with

all this excitement. Next stop, high

school. Uh, high school. Do they eat

pizza in high school? It's going to be

great. There's going to be all these new

people to meet and so much new stuff to

do. And so much homework. I hope we're

ready. Of course you're ready. You guys

aren't puppies anymore. It's time for

some new adventures. It's time for some

food. My bowl's empty. Sam. Don't you

want some more to drink?Which one?I'll

get it. Thanks, Sam. You

kids are going to love high school. I

know we did. Oh, yes, we did. Do

you guys remember choir practice with the

Lucas twins?They were so funny.

Oh, and how about the year we all went to

homecoming wearing Hawaiian shirts and

sandals? Not me. Oh, yes, you did. You

were there. Oh, yes, you did. Oh, you

held your. Oh, thanks, Sam. Oh, no, no,

no, noThis is more water. Which bone

can't drink any more water?Which bone

would like some pizza?Pizza. Oh,

things sure have changed since we were in

high school. Uh-oh. Ohh

I remember sitting... Think I need to go

outside.

Oh. Joe! Joe!

I gotta go outside!

Oh, I tell you, I really envy you guys.

You've got some great times ahead of you

in high school. Oh.

Don't think about water. Don't think

about water. Don't think about water.

For seven long years, Aeneas tried

without success to reach Latvia, his

place of destiny. But the cruel gods

tossed his ship from port to port. Poor

Aeneas's father died just before a

terrible storm drove the Trojans to a

place called Carthage. Aeneas would

have to find his destination on his own.

You will be safe in Queen Dido's Kingdom,

my son. I will send my messenger

Cupid to sh**t her with the magic

arrow and the queen will fall in love

with you. This is some

prime real estate. I mean, yeah, it's all

rocky and dusty and there's no water

inside, but it would be perfect to have a

great big palace right here. Easy,

boys. What?What is it?

Oh, they've already got a great big

palace right here. Well,

let's go check it out. Come on, boys.

Come on. Nice decor. Not what I

would have chosen, but still very nice.

Ooh, fellas, I think I smell a buffet.

Let's go. Pick it up, boys, pick it up.

Oh, greetings, fair queen. I am Prince

Aeneas of Troy. Oh,

unhappy Prince, I know the sad tale of

how you were driven from your homeland.

I, too, was forced to leave my country.

But now I'm building a new home here in

Carthage.

What? What is it, Queen Dido? Are you

unwell?I have never felt so

well. Oh, Mies, you must stay

here with me as long as you like. I will

have a feast prepared in your honor. A

feast? That's even better than a buffet.

Come on, boys. My

dearest sister, what has come over me?I

feel as if I've been stung by Cupid's

arrow. This Trojan Prince has

taken my heart.

Aeneas spent a long time in Carthage. He

fell in love with Queen Dido and thought

it might be a good idea to stay there.

But Jupiter knew this was not his

destiny, so the king of the gods sent

Mercury to Carthage with an important

message. I

think I'll stretch my legs a little bit.

Take a break, boys. It's been a long day.

Great gods above! Where did you come from?

From the great gods above.

All powerful

Jupiter has sent me here with this

severe command.

What?What is it?

Do not linger here, wasting your time on

the love of your queen. Delay no

more. Delay no

more, yes. Go to Latium

and fulfill the will of the gods.

Leave this place. How can I leave my

queen? And who the heck was that guy?

Oh, ungrateful Prince. I gave you

safety and happiness in my Kingdom, and

now you flee. How can you leave me

wretched and alone?Fair queen, it is

not my will, but the will of the gods

that drives me from you. I fear we must

not oppose what the gods command. I am

forced by my fate to leave your Kingdom.

Farewell, my queen. If I were free to

decide, I would stay here with you.

Hi, Sam. How you doing?People, I need to

go outside. You

must be really thirsty, Wishbelle. No,

no, not thirsty. We need to go outside.

Sam, no. Oh, water fed.

Mommy, how long do we have to stay here?

Oh, I'm sure it won't be much longer,

sweetheart. But I'm almost done.

David, would you mind taking your sister

across the street to Rosie so she can

pick out a coloring book?All right, I'll

take her.

Come on, Emily. Where's the

bathroom?Thank you. Give

me a kiss. Be careful crossing the

street. Um, let's see. Uh,

women, men... Where's the doggy

potty?Alan, you remember when we went to

the stump?The stump?Yeah, the

stump. Oh, I haven't thought about that

in years. What are you talking about? You

know, that old tree stump in front of the

post office?Tree stump?That's perfect.

Well, it's the only thing that's left of

the first oak tree ever planted on Oak

Street. Some say it knows all there is to

know about Oakdale. And if you sit on it

and close your eyes, you can actually see

your future. You want to try it?I can

tell my dad I'm taking a break.

Fat umWhat does fat um

mean?It's Latin. It's pronounced fatum.

I think it means fate.

You see anything?Not yet.

Me neither.

So what do you want to do in high school?

Well, definitely photography.

Maybe drama. How about you?

Basketball?I'll try out.

I was thinking I might take up the drums.

Maybe join the jazz band. You're kidding.

No, really.

Hey, maybe the stump works after all.

Well, it sure worked for me.

Whoo! Boy, do I feel better.

Oh, nothing like getting back to nature,

let me tell you. That was what you'd call

a necessary pit stop.

Jupiter had one more stop planned for

Aeneas. He was going to Cumae, the

entrance to Hades, the place where the

souls of the dead and departed wandered.

Down in the afterworld, Aeneas would see

his destiny right before his eyes.

Bones.

So this is the afterworld, huhWell,

you must be the one that God sent to

guide me to my father's spirit. I must

see him. Which way?

Thank you.

This is a nice place to dwell. You gotta

dwell. Dad?

Father, it's you at last.

Welcome to Elysium, my son, where the

purest souls of the dead come to dwell.

And come, walk with me a moment. I will

show you your future greatness.

These. will be your future descendants,

not yet born. You will have a son,

Sylvius. He will be first in a line

of kings. Wow, a king in the family? And

there, Romulus. The

city of Rome will be named after him. No

kidding. Julius Caesar,

the great statesman. And

behind him, the

Emperor Augustus. He will be the

ruler of the great Roman Empire.

So all these great men are going to be my

relatives?What a cool family. Go

now, MES. You have battles to fight and

victories to win. Follow the destiny the

gods have laid out for you. Join the

Trojan and Latin peoples and give birth

to a great empire. Thank you, Father.

You've inspired me. Farewell. Did

it work?Well, sort of. Oh, it

worked. Can I have some water?Well, I had

to redo the entire front page so I could

lead with a gas leak story. Oh, and while

I was down at the newspaper, look what I

found. Oh, no,

back. Oh, Ellen, this is so

funny. Look at the clothes we used to

wear. And look at my hair. What was I

thinking?What?Did she have funny hair?

Let me see. Oh, I have so many great

memories of high school. The school

paper, Earth Day. That's when I

started planting trees every year.

Oh, and Damont's dad was

president of the student council. You're

going to love high school. There's so

much to do. Yeah, right.

Well, what about you, Damont? What are you

going to do?I don't know.

Nothing, really. What's there to do

anyway?

It's bugging him. Same thing that's

bugging me?Who's going to be around to

play with the dog?Went back to work for

me. Oh, Ellen,

look, a picture of you working on a

trophy case. You built the trophy case?

Well, not all by herself, but it was her

idea, and she did design it. You never

told me about that, Mom. Well, it was

nothing, really. Nothing?It was a

tremendous contribution. Your mother

didn't think it was fair for only the

sports teams to have a trophy case, so

she headed the committee that built the

one big enough to display all of the

school's achievements. That's right.

You'll probably pass it on your way to

class every day. That's great, Mom. I

have to see it. Oh, look. Here's

one of Nathan on the basketball team.

Talk about hair. Hey,

Wishbone, want to check out Mom's trophy

case at the high school?Sure. Let's get a

peek at your future.

Finally, my son, you have reached

Latium, your faded destination.

This will be your home. I will make

sure that the Trojan sufferings are not

over. Prince Turits. Be

my ambassador of w*r.

OK, boys, best behavior.

My king, we honor your court with this

gift of fine Carthaginian fabric, which

we got on sale. Prince of the

Trojans, welcome to our

peaceful Kingdom of Latium. Thank you,

good King Latinus. Fate and the gods

drove our ships to your shore. It took a

while. But better late than never, I

always say.

You are the foreign prince, fate has

decreed. I have seen you in

my visions, and yes, they have shown that

you will marry my daughter Lavinia and be

the heir to my throne. Cool!

This destiny thing is working out a lot

better than I'd hoped. You may use my

Kingdom as your own. Through you

we will join together the Trojan and

Latin lines and build a great

empire. King Latinus, how can

you hand over this land to a foreign

stranger? He is not of Latin blood, and he

must not rule in Latin lands. As for the

fair Lavinia, she was promised to me.

Silence, Ternus, please. This is

the way it must be.

My friends, the king is deceived.

This Aeneas is our enemy. We

will not allow Latium to fall into the

hands of these Trojans

to gather our armies for battle. We will

drive these foreigners from our shore.

The battle for Latium was underway. The

two great warriors took to the

b*ttlefield. Aeneas called the truce. He

asked Turnus to settle the battle

one-on-one, and Turnus accepted the

challenge.

OK, Turnus, let the competition begin.

First one to the big rock wins. But the

the big rock there?No. There.

Hey, look who's first to the big rock.

That was clever.

So you won the first one,

but now we'll see who's king of the hill.

First one to the top wins.

Excuse me.

Now the ultimate challenge. First one

to blink must surrender.

What's the matter, Turnus?Feeling a

little dry-eyed?Oh.

You have defeated me, brave Prince. Yes,

my destiny is fulfilled. Trojan and Latin

people shall join together and share this

new home. Well

spoken, my king. I oh, what a

comfortable lap.

So this is high school, huhIt's kind

of big. Hey, Damont.

What do you want?I just wanted to see the

trophy case.

This was my mom's idea.

Hey, it's the '92 state

playoffs. Wait a minute,

isn't that your brother Larry? He played

on that team?Yeah,

don't remind me. Why?

It's bad enough I have to hear about it

at home every day. How great

Larry is at everything. And that's all

they talk about. And

now I'm expected to live up to that.

What's the use?

I'll always be a let down. I'm

the loser of the family.

You've got to give yourself a chance.

What do you know about it?

You don't know what it's like living

in someone else's shadow your whole

life. It's hard to play

when you know you're gonna lose.

It's not always about winning.

My dad was a great athlete.

Andy made the honor roll. I don't

know how I'll survive high school math,

but I can't get upset about it. I just

have to do my best. My best

isn't good enough.

Never will be either. Look,

we made it through middle school. We'll

make it through high school, too.

Hey, maybe this summer we could work out

together so we can be ready for

basketball tryouts in the fall. Are you

serious?Sure.

Who knows?Together we can end up

winning one of these.

Hey, Talbot. You all

right?

Sorry about, you

know... Yeah. I don't

know. Wait a minute. Is

this the older monster?Boy,

things really are changing.

The Aeneid is more than just a story.

Rome really did start out in a country

called Latium. Over hundreds of years,

Rome grew into a great empire that

stretched across the Western world. And

we've got the Romans to thank for a lot

of things we still use today, like many

of our laws and the 12 month calendar.

Spanish, French and Italian are all based

on Latin. the language of the Romans,

which all goes to show there was no place

like Rome.

Don't worry, Wishbone. We're going

through a lot of changes.

But I'm still going to be your best

friend. Who knows?

You might have made a new friend today.

Do you think Damon will come through?I

don't know, pal. But with a friend like

you,He has a good chance.

Oh, no. Joe,

I gotta go outside again,

Joe.
