03x05 - Nobody's Perfect, Snoopy

"Snoopy Quits the Ball Team."

All right, team.
It's almost the end of the season.

The odds may be stacked against us,

but if we try our best and work as a team,
I know we can turn things around.

Play ball!

Yeah!

-Yeah!
-Let's sock it to 'em!

With everyone working their hardest,
I just know we can win this game.

Routine play!

I got it!

I got it!

I may have spoken too soon.

You got this, Snoopy!
Just focus on the ball and swing!

Okay. One strike. Not a problem.

Make it out to Rerun, please.

That's with two R's.

Eyes on the prize, Snoopy.
Eyes on the prize.

Good grief.

All yours, Snoopy!

All right. Time-out!

Look, Snoopy. I'm sorry if our ball game
is interrupting your ball game.

But this is important
and you're not even trying.

You can't quit. The game just started!

You can't let Snoopy quit the team.

He's our best player.

You sure made a mess of things,
Charlie Brown.

You said it.

Fine. Time-out again.

Snoopy. Wait up.

Come on, pal. What would it take
for you to come back?

Contract negotiations? Now?

These are very impractical, Snoopy.

I can't give you every third inning off.

"Revised list of demands.
Pregame snack. First inning treat.

Third inning root beer.
Ninth inning victory snack."

Even if we lose?

You drive a hard bargain, Snoopy.

But if it gets you back on the field,
I'll agree to your terms.

Game on. Still plenty of time
for us to save the season.

But it's not the third inning yet.

Apparently I forgot
the second inning head scratch.

This may be a long game.

Heads-up, Snoopy!

Wow! Great catch, pal.

"All impressive catches will be rewarded
with a slice of pizza"?

Pizza for the short stop!

"Fourth inning foot rub?"

I should've read the fine print.

This may be
the most important pitch of the game.

Time-out!

We're not playing
until we renegotiate our contracts too.

But you don't even have contracts.

That's the first thing we wanna negotiate
in our contracts. Contracts.

-I demand a beanbag chair.
-I want ice cream.

-Me too.
-Poetry breaks.

-Lemonade between innings.
-Matching jerseys.

Rerun, you're not even on the team.

-I want a nap.
-Blanket breaks.

-Cookie breaks.
-Fluffy towels.

-A new catcher's mitt.
-No more practices.

Enough!

Baseball isn't about foot rubs,
or snack breaks,

or who gets to sing the national anthem.

It's not about what each of us can get,

it's about
what all of us can do, together.

Now, are we a team or not?

We are.

Yeah! Go team! Yeah!

Now then, let's play ball.

Catch!

Rats!

My ball! My ball!

I got it!

Look out!

-We won!
-Hooray!

-Go team!
-Hooray!

Now that's what I call teamwork.

Yay!

-Yeah!
-Hooray!

Where are they going?

I don't have the heart to tell them
there's still one inning left.

"Chez Marcie."

Here's the world-famous Flying Ace,

taking off for another dangerous mission
above enemy territory.

Snoopy. I appreciate wanting to lay low
behind enemy lines.

But some of us
still need to check the mail.

Welcome to my little café.
You need not worry, Monsieur Flying Ace.

You are quite safe here. Root beer?

May I offer you a croissant?

Or perhaps a pastry
from this picture I have of pastries?

Uh-uh.

Perhaps some escargots?

It's a fancy way of saying "snails."

Hey, Marcie. What are you up to?

Isn't it obvious, sir?

The brave Flying Ace
is enjoying a root beer.

It's the house specialty here
at Chez Marcie.

You're a rare bird, Marcie.

What's happening?

He thinks you might be an enemy spy.

You're not, are you?

I don't think so.

I just came by
to see if you wanted to play catch.

I wish I could, sir.

But the café doesn't close until 7:00
and as you can see, I have customers.

No problem.

Maybe we can play later, or tomorrow?

Or whenever you are not busy, I guess.

Any requests?

Welcome back, Monsieur.

Your usual order, though today
I'm trying something a little different.

Hey, Marcie. I was thinking today
we could do something you like.

I know you're a fan of reading,

so I brought this book
I found in my garage.

Motorcycle Mechanic Handbook.
Sounds informative, right?

I thought we could read it together.

I'm a bit busy at the moment, sir.
But why don't you join us?

You can be Yvette,
the florist who comes to the café

to forget her troubles
by dancing the tango with the Flying Ace.

I was kinda hoping we could just hang out.

I'm not good at this imagining stuff.

I'm going to find a place to sit down.

We have plenty of chairs in the café.
Yvette? Sir?

I guess it's just you and me.

You ever get the blues, Chuck?

Yes, but I try to keep it in perspective.

There are good days and bad days.
Ups and downs.

I think it's all about
looking at the big picture, and how you--

Chuck! We're talking about me here.

Go on.

Marcie's my friend, but sometimes
we just can't get on the same page.

Now she's spending all her time
playing make-believe

and drinking root beer
with that dog of yours.

I'm not so good at that kind of stuff.
Do you think it'll hurt our friendship?

-Chuck!
-Wait, are you asking my advice?

Me? This never happens to me.
This feels amazing.

So, do you have any advice?

Right. Well it's true
that you and Marcie are different.

But maybe,
that's what makes your friendship special.

You each bring something
the other doesn't have.

And Snoopy can be a lot of fun too.

Have you considered meeting them halfway?

I suppose I could.
It did look like they were having fun.

Weird fun, but fun. Thanks, Chuck.

Mind you, meeting Snoopy halfway
doesn't have the best rate of success.

So, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

I should probably start
with the warning next time.

Just when you thought
things couldn't get any sillier.

It's Fyrdette. No, Yvette.

You know, the flower person.

Yvette! You came. Welcome to Chez Marcie.

My, what a lovely bouquet.

I got 'em from your front garden.

Care to tango, flyboy?

You know, this was actually fun.
Let's do it all again tomorrow.

Sorry. My mom says we're out of root beer.

Looks like the Flying Ace is taking off

for greener pastures.

But on the plus side,

maybe now you and I
could go kick around the old baseball.

Anytime.

I'm glad you decided to stay home
for a change, Snoopy.

After all, there's more to life
than sitting around drinking root beer.

Oui, Monsieur.

"Scary Moon."

Just look at that full moon, Chuck.

It's like it's following us
wherever we go.

Do you ever worry that one day
the moon will fall out of the sky

and land on your head?

Actually, that's one of the things
I don't worry about.

Well, maybe you should.

You never know
what that old moon might do.

It could fall and land right on top of me,
or you, or even some poor dog.

Nah.

Snoopy? There you are.
I've been looking all over for you.

You weren't at your doghouse.

What's wrong, pal? You seem upset.

First Peppermint Patty and now you.

Snoopy, there's no reason
to be afraid of the moon.

It can't hurt you.

Well, the only way to conquer your fears
is to face them.

I want you to turn around
and just look up at the moon.

Don't worry, I'll be right here.

Now do you feel better?

I'll take that as a no.

Sure is a pretty moon tonight,
Charlie Brown.

That's what I was saying to Snoopy.

Say, Linus, do you think the moon
could ever fall from the sky?

Of course it can, Charlie Brown.
There's no avoiding it.

As the Earth turns,
the moon falls each night.

Plummeting from its celestial height.

Only to return the following eve,

illuminating the darkened sky.

There's a time and place for poetry,
Linus.

Snoopy!

I didn't know your booth's
open at night, Lucy.

Good advice never sleeps, Charlie Brown.

So, do you say you're afraid of the moon?

That's known as selenophobia.

Well, more specifically,

Snoopy's afraid that the moon will
fall out of the sky and land on his head.

Interesting.
That sounds like a brand-new phobia.

This could be groundbreaking.

Just what I thought.
It's not in my big book.

Snoopy, I could study your fear
and publish a paper on it.

I could be the one who names it.
Imagine that.

You could be suffering from "lucyophobia."

I'll be written up
in all the scientific textbooks!

Right alongside Freud and Jung,
you'll see the name Lucy van Pelt!

I'm definitely going to need
a bigger booth. And a secretary.

And a filing system!

Charlie Brown! You still owe me ten cents!
Nighttime rates!

Don't worry, Snoopy.
The moon can't fall out of the sky.

That would defy
all rules of astronomical science.

I knew it. You see?

Because the moon is moving so fast,
it will never hit the Earth.

The delicate balance
between the Earth's gravitational pull

and the speed of the moon
creates a stable orbit.

Interesting. But what would happen
if the moon did slow down?

Well, I suppose, hypothetically,
it would fall and crash into the Earth.

I had to ask a follow-up question.

I know you're afraid, Snoopy.

Would it help if I told you that I am too?

Not of the moon falling out of the sky,
but other stuff.

Everyone's afraid of something.

For instance, I'm always afraid
it'll rain on game day.

Also, I'm afraid of spiders

because they have more legs
than I'm comfortable with.

Let's see, what else am I afraid of?

I'm afraid of biting into a cookie
and finding coconut.

I'm afraid of show-and-tell at school.

I could handle show-or-tell,
but showing and telling?

That's too much pressure.

I'm afraid of mud puddles

because you never know how deep they go
until it's too late.

And I'm afraid of not being there
when you need me.

Not that that will ever happen.

Sweet dreams, Snoopy.

It's going to be a long night.
