[insects buzz and chirp]

[sheep bleating]

[ominous music rises]

[music intensifies]

[music subsides]

[insects buzz and chirp]

[gentle piano music]

-[Magnus] Everything is

just as she left it.

-[piano]

I mean,

it would need some sprucing up,

but, uh, it's got good bones.

[Maya] Magnus,

when did she pass away?

[Magnus] Oh, it's been

years my firm has been

trying to find you.

And Wren's listed

as the only remaining family?

Is that not correct?

[Wren] Yeah, I-I don't know

why my mom never

told me she had a sister.

[Magnus] Well,

you know what they say.

Family always finds a way.

Come on, let me show you

the rest of the house.

There's a lot to see.

Yeah.

[Wren laughs]

[gasps]

I thought you said

she didn't have any children.

Birgit? No.

Uh, well, she did

run the clinic in town,

so, who knows,

maybe she took

some of them in over the years.

[Wren]

What if we took the house?

What, and move up there?

I mean, it already has a piano.

I could teach.

And I think it could be...

a really nice place

for a wedding someday.

Mmm. You know,

I was actually getting

more funeral vibes.

[Wren laughs]

Come on! I think

it'd be a great place

to raise a kid.

-We'd be restless.

-I mean, you're already

working remotely.

-And we'd be closer to your mom.

-That is not a selling point.

I just-- I think it would

be good for me.

You've been doing so well.

I...

I don't want to go

back to New York.

What?

Yeah, New York is like...

New York is haunted for me.

I just don't want

to live there anymore.

Will you just think about it?

I don't know.

-Oh, sh*t.

-What?

[Wren groans and retches]

[Maya]

Hold on, hold on, hold on.

[retching]

[intro music plays]

[Rosalie]

Your aunt was a pioneer.

She founded this clinic.

She wasn't able to have

children of her own,

but that just inspired her

to create all of this

for women who could.

I was with her

from the beginning.

I started interning

with her right

out of high school,

and she taught me

everything that I know.

I worshiped Birdie.

Birdie?

[Rosalie] Yeah, that's what

everybody called her.

So, I'm actually not

really showing yet,

but we are

just about 13 weeks along.

Yeah, it's either Henry

or Sophie.

Congratulations,

that's wonderful.

-Thank you.

-Are you waiting

to find out the sex?

Well, we actually haven't

had an ultrasound yet.

I've just been

a little bit nervous.

I don't want to do anything

to hurt the baby.

Well, you're in

your second trimester now,

and I think it's time

for an ultrasound.

You know, we offer everything

that you need here.

We do screenings and labor

and delivery services,

prenatal care, postpartum.

Well, for delivery, we're

thinking of that hospital

in Newburgh.

Mm-hm. Yeah, if you

want to go the hospital route,

you could do that.

But we are fully equipped

to do everything here.

Or at home. It's really about

where you're most comfortable.

She's gonna want the epidural.

She's gonna say

that she doesn't want it,

wants a natural birth,

but I guarantee you,

when it's happening,

she's gonna want it.

She's probably right.

Well, we can offer you

something for the pain.

Do you have

any medical conditions

or allergies? Medications?

Um, I was prescribed medication

for depression and anxiety,

but I've been weaning myself

off of it since I got pregnant.

Hmm. How's that going for you?

Great. Honestly,

I-I've never felt better.

Good.

Well, why don't we

get you in next week

for that ultrasound?

-Okay.

-[Rosalie] Okay.

-Yeah.

-Yeah? Okay.

-Nice to meet you.

-It was nice to meet you both.

Thank you so much.

-Congratulations.

-Thank you.

[Wren] Those are my parents.

And that's Birdie.

And that's you,

in front of your new home.

[soft chuckle]

[crickets chirp]

[Wren] What did you think

of the midwife?

-Rosalie?

-Mm-hm.

[Maya] Kind of weird.

I liked her.

[Maya laughs]

You like everyone.

Well, if we decide

to go with her,

at least I can say

I have some kind of wife.

[laughs]

[laughing]

[Maya] Come in, come in,

come in...

This is so much prettier

than I remember.

So, you loop it

through the hole.

-[Maya laughs]

-The bunny ears.

[Maya] I told you we weren't

gonna need help with this.

-[Wren] I didn't think we would.

-[Maya] You--

-[Wren laughs]

-[Maya] Keep doubting me.

-[chimes]

-[intense music]

[piano music]

[piano music continues]

[piano music continues]

[piano music continues]

Hello. Are you returning

or checking out?

-I'm checking out.

-Great.

-Thank you.

-[Quentin] Last name?

Collins.

Wren?

Uh, yes.

You're new here.

-[beeps]

-Yeah, I am.

Okay. You are all set.

Thank you so much.

[indistinct chatter]

[piano music continues]

[piano music continues]

[piano music continues]

[piano music fades]

[distant horse chuffs]

-[bird flutters]

-[intense music]

[Rosalie]

Right there's the head.

[machine beeps]

And they're

looking right at you.

And do you see the legs here?

Mm-hmm.

Do you wanna know the sex?

It's a boy.

[murmuring sound]

Henry.

It's-- it's okay?

He's perfect.

[relieved gasp]

Baby?

[gasps]

-[piano music]

-[laughs]

[piano music continues]

[intense music, knocking]

Hi! You must be Chelsea.

Come on in.

[Wren] So...

have you ever played before?

No? Well, that's okay.

We'll just start

from the beginning. Okay?

Okay, so you want to start

with middle C

right in the center. Okay?

C, like Chelsea.

-[piano]

-C

You want to try?

-[plays piano]

-C

Great. Exactly.

And then you just want to go up

the scale, okay?

-[plays piano]

-C, C sharp

-[plays piano]

-D

[plays piano]

Really good. Great.

-Just keep going up.

-[plays piano]

What is that?

My mom comes here at night.

Your mom comes

to this house at night?

She's scared to tell you.

What does she have to tell me?

About your baby, Henry.

They want him.

[intense music]

[cell phone rings]

[Wren] Hi, Justine?

[Justine] Wren, hi.

I'm so sorry.

I meant to call you earlier.

Chelsea was really excited

to start today,

but she's just not feeling well.

[laughs]

She, she must've snuck out

and come anyway.

[Justine] What?

Yeah, she's, she's here.

[Justine] No, she's not.

She's sitting right here

in our living room.

-What?

-[Justine] Yeah, no,

she's right here.

[Justine speaks inaudibly]

[front door thumps]

And her mom comes

to the house at night?

It's not funny.

I am freaking out.

I know you are.

You need to calm down.

It's not good for the baby

for you to get so worked up.

She was trying to warn us, Maya.

She knew Henry by name.

You think maybe she peeked

into the nursery

and saw the welcome sign?

No.

No. No. No.

She was with me the whole time.

[sighs]

Think she's in there now?

Want to go take a look?

I mean...

Come on. Let's go take a look.

Don't...

I'm not making fun of you.

Let's go.

What do you think?

Think you heard a moth outside?

Let's take a look. Okay?

I'm not crazy.

I know you're not.

I love you.

We'll figure out

whose creepy kid it was.

Come on, you need to get to bed.

[piano note plays]

[piano note plays]

[piano note plays]

[Chelsea]

C

[intense rattle]

Hey! Wait!

[distant voice calls out]

[distant bird shrieks]

[intense music builds]

[music intensifies]

[music subsides]

[Wren whimpers]

-[Wren gasps, whimpers]

-[baby cries]

[baby cries]

[whimpers]

[Wren] No! No!

-[baby cries]

-No! [whimpers]

[gasps, panting]

[panting]

[panting]

[Maya mutters]

Can I tell you something?

Something's wrong.

Something-- something's wrong.

You're okay.

You're okay.

[Wren screams]

[Wren whimpers]

Can we get some help?!

[alarm chimes]

[whimpering]

Help me out here.

Let's get her up.

-Good.

-Don't--

What's happening?

Hey. [whimpering]

[Wren whimpers]

[indistinct chatter]

-[doctor] How far along?

-Okay.

[Wren whimpers]

-[doctor speaks]

-[machines beep]

[whimpers] How far along,

they said. How far along?

[distant, indistinct voices]

-How is she?

-She's sedated now.

She lost a lot of blood.

We need to keep her overnight.

And the baby?

[whimpers] Oh, God.

It was too early. [cries]

I need to ask you a few things.

Okay.

When did she tell you

she was pregnant?

What do you mean?

When it happened.

-What's going on?

-Well...

We performed an ultrasound...

and...

there was nothing there.

[doctor] This would appear to be

a case of pseudocyesis,

where your partner

may have experienced

the symptoms of pregnancy--

No, no, no, no, no, no.

We have an ultrasound

on our refrigerator.

Okay. I understand.

No.

What did you do to our baby?

Ms. Lopez...

there was no baby.

What about her stomach? It's...

Swelling can occur.

That's just part

of the dysmorphia.

What was all that blood?

We're trying to figure that out.

There's many explanations

for that.

Who was her doctor?

She must have an OBGYN.

-We're leaving.

-Well, we'll need to perform

a psychological evaluation.

I got you, okay?

Just let it out.

This isn't your fault.

Are you real?

You're real, right?

[Wren] I don't know

what's happening.

[Rosalie] Nobody does.

I spoke with the hospital.

They sent over your blood work.

It just...

it doesn't make any sense.

[Rosalie] But you're not crazy.

You really were pregnant.

[Wren] I feel like I'm cursed.

My freshman year of college,

my parents died in a fire.

And...

I just,

I just stayed in the city.

I never went back.

For a while I... I just floated.

And then...

started teaching 3rd grade

in the Bronx.

And one day we took the kids

to this local community garden,

and we were laughing.

This one kid

always made us laugh.

So I was turned away. Um...

I turned...

and then I heard this horn.

And, uh, a scream.

One of my girls... Angela...

She was just... lying there.

I mean, there's...

Oh, Wren...

After that, I just... I lost it.

I lost my job. I lost...

everything.

It got so bad that...

I started seeing her.

Everywhere was her.

Across the street,

on the corner.

Everywhere.

I started pulling

my own hair out.

I....

wouldn't leave the house.

I just...

I just wanted to disappear.

I'm so sorry.

I understand loss.

And I also know

what it feels like

to feel cursed.

[suspenseful music]

[soft gasp]

Simon, let's go.

[barks]

Simon, let's go home.

[barks]

-Come on, let's go home.

-[barks

-[barks]

-Come on.

[barks]

What is it, boy?

[barks]

-[barks]

-Come on, let's go home.

-[barks]

-Simon!

-[barks]

-Simon, let's go now!

[barks]

Come here! Simon! Simon!

[water runs]

Simon bit me.

Why?

I don't know. Just got spooked.

I want to try again.

Don't you want to figure out

what happened?

[chuckles]

We know what happened.

I had a miscarriage.

It happens

to people all the time.

[Maya] I know, I just...

I want to make sure

you're healthy enough for that.

I feel great.

-Wren.

-I do.

I don't know that I'd say

that you've been doing great.

Right. So, we're talking

about my mental health.

Don't do that.

[Maya] I stood by you.

You said the same thing then,

and I'm still standing by you.

Yes, I think

first we need to talk

about getting you back

on some medication.

[sighs]

And I obviously still have

some serious questions

-about what actually happened.

-We lost our baby.

That's what happened.

I washed the sheets.

And... cleaned the car.

There was nothing there.

Just... blood.

Lots of blood.

You felt him kick.

I thought I did.

So what, I made him up?

He was real... Maya.

Do you want to see him?

I'll go get the ultrasound.

[Wren] Where is it?

I burned it.

What?

Maya, that was all

we had left of him.

I couldn't look at it anymore.

Oh, my God. [sobs]

[ominous music]

[bartender] What'll it be?

[Maya] Uh...

I'll do a beer and a shot.

Bourbon.

One bourbon, one scotch.

And one beer.

Maya.

I know. I've seen you.

You and your wife, uh, moved

into the old Sorenson place.

Yeah, we're not married.

Ugh.

[Paul] Did some work

on that place.

Foundation mostly.

How'd you come

to get that place?

My partner, she, uh...

They're related.

Huh.

She was a strange lady.

Birgit?

[elevator lowers]

[Wren] Do you think

I'm like Birdie?

[Rosalie] In what way?

Barren?

No.

You were pregnant.

You'll get pregnant again.

In fact, you wouldn't be

alone if you were.

Barren.

Oh, God, I'm... I'm so sorry.

It's fine.

[Rosalie]

You look like her, though.

-Birdie?

-[Rosalie] Mm-hm.

It's just so sad to me that

you never even knew of her.

What-- what even happened

between her and my mom?

Maybe they didn't want you

growing up around here.

-Enough of this sh*t.

-[pool ba*ls scatter]

Take me with you.

Nah. I'm stuck.

Probably k*ll herself if I left.

And then I'd have

to k*ll myself, so.

Oh, don't k*ll yourself.

I like you.

Okay, Paul.

[Paul] Thing is, this town--

this town basically got ghosted.

We need some new life

around here.

[pool ba*ls scatter]

So, Paul...

Maya!

Maya.

What was so strange

about Birgit?

Huh?

Sorenson.

Why? You getting spooked

up in that house?

No.

You just said...

that...

I don't know.

I don't want to speak ill

of the dead.

It's just that she, uh,

she fell prey to something.

Caught up to her.

Wouldn't let go.

[pool ba*ls scatter]

[Wren] How did Birdie die?

[Rosalie] It was horrible.

It was the worst day of my life.

I found her.

She was hanging in the woods,

up behind the house.

Maya?

[dog barks]

[barking continues]

-It's okay.

It's okay, Simon. Where are you?

-[dog barks]

-Hey. Shh. It's okay.

[barking continues]

[suspenseful music]

-[sharp gasp]

-[glass shatters]

[suspenseful music continues]

[sharp gasp]

Hey!

Hey!

Hey.

Where are you?

God...

Where are you?

Stay the f*ck away--

What are you doing?

Jesus.

[Wren whimpers]

-What are you doing?

-[Wren] Uh...

She...

She was right here.

Who?

The woman, she...

the mother of the-- of the kid.

[Maya] Okay.

[Wren whimpers]

She was standing right here.

She was looking up

at the window.

-Just calm down.

-I'm serious. Okay.

You have to believe me.

I'm not crazy.

I know. Okay?

There was someone here, okay?

Let's just go inside, okay?

[g*nsh*t]

[suspenseful music]

[Paul] k*lling a sacred deer...

and eating its heart...

is supposed to keep away

malevolent spirits.

Will it keep crazy

ladies off our lawn?

-Shut up.

-[chuckles]

Wren thinks she sees

this woman lurking around.

[interrupting] I do.

I do see her.

I haven't since

that one night, but I...

I do. Maya doesn't believe me.

You mean Caroline.

Who?

What?

I saw her prowling around here.

She just hasn't been...

right since she lost her kid.

My guess...

is just that she was, um...

looking for answers.

[Maya] God.

I'm sorry.

[grunts]

[truck gate closes]

Do you maybe want to leave

that with us?

Yeah, I got lots.

Oh.

Nice.

-[Maya] Thank you.

-Yep.

[tires on gravel]

[radio plays faintly]

[thudding sound]

[huffing]

Oh...

Come on.

[radio shuts off,

gear shift thumps]

[lug wrench clatters]

[grunts]

[grunts]

[suspenseful music]

-[slash]

-[shouts]

[choking]

[Paul falls to the ground]

[Paul groans]

[menacing music]

[phone rings]

[phone rings]

Hello?

[baby cries]

Hello?

[baby cries]

[hangs up phone]

[ominous music]

[low] Are you

f*cking kidding me?

Oh, f*ck.

[sighs]

You said

Dad wasn't gonna be here.

I see his car

in the driveway, Mom.

No...

No, I'm not coming in.

Here.

These are for you.

How is she?

Not good.

It's been really hard.

I don't know

what's gonna happen.

Your father doesn't want

me to do this.

Its...

Grandma's ring.

The one you asked for.

Thank you.

Just because I'm giving

this to you doesn't mean

that I don't still think

that you're living in sin.

Happy birthday, Mom.

Just go.

Go.

[car door opens]

[car door closes]

So, uh, Quentin.

Uh... call me Q.

[sighs] Uh...

I'm so sorry. Uh...

I'm a bit unprepared.

I thought I had called everyone.

I'm putting my lessons on hold.

We have...

Some family issues.

[speaks haltingly]

No, I knew... I...

You don't need to apologize.

We, uh, we don't...

have to do this today if--

No, no, no. No, honestly,

it's a welcome distraction.

I'm very happy that you're here.

Uh, so...

Do you have

any experience playing?

Uh...

All I know is "Heart and Soul."

[plays "Heart and Soul"]

[Wren] Very good! [laughs]

Uh, there's a reason I'm here.

-[Wren laughs]

-Whoa.

Where'd you get that?

[Wren] Oh, uh...

One of my students left it here.

Do you know what it is?

[Wren] No.

Yeah, I don't think you want

this in your house.

-[suspenseful music]

-Why not?

You know what happened here,

right?

There were all these kids...

went missing.

And they kept finding those.

Like a-- like a calling card.

[suspenseful music]

I'm, I'm sure your student

must've just found

one of them somewhere.

[turns light on]

So, apparently...

there was a coven of witches,

and the demon felt threatened.

And then the demon

said he would

take their power and

make them make these things,

the dolls, out of locks

of children's hair.

And they would leave them

with a child to, like, mark it.

And then the demon would come

and take the child away.

-It's a marker?

-[Quentin] Yeah.

And then all the children,

they would...

they would act as servants

during these birthing rituals

the demon would have, where

these barren witches would,

would offer themselves up

to the demon.

Birthing rituals?

You mean like...

like sacrifice babies?

Well, yeah, they did do that.

Here.

They did do that, but,

but only if it was,

uh, a baby in the bloodline

of the demon and it was a male

because he

was afraid of their powers.

But, but mainly,

they would just have

these birthing rituals,

and that would open

this sort of, I don't know,

a gate or something.

And he says that

there were seven of these gates

around the world. And here's...

here's the demon.

And he would, he would

torment the witches

by possessing their bodies

so he could walk

along the Earth.

And here are the ghosts

of the dead children

acting as servants.

And again, a lot

of this I'm piecing together.

Uh, I think whoever--

whoever wrote this,

he must've been

a-a clergyman or something,

because he wrote everything

in Greek and in Latin

and Old Norse,

all these different languages,

and I've translated

some of it, but...

we, we should, uh,

we should definitely,

we should find some time to...

to go over it all together.

[suspenseful music]

[news reporter] A Caucasian

male in his late 30s last

seen on Tanner Road,

the victim's identity

hasn't been released,

as authorities say

that the investigation

is ongoing.

[suspenseful music]

[honks]

Hi. Can I give you a ride?

Okay.

[suspenseful music]

Here you go.

Maya text you back yet?

Oh, no, I'm, um...

I was thinking about

something else about the kids

in Coventry who went missing.

Oh, yeah.

That's a long time ago.

Yeah, the people in town

were terrified,

you know. Nobody understood.

They still don't.

You know,

these were the town's children.

Our kids, just disappearing.

I was just a teenager myself

at the time, so...

[Wren] Wait.

Magnus Brewer.

He was a very sick man.

What, Wren?

He settled the estate.

No. [chuckles]

He died many years ago.

[oven dings]

That's the bread.

[suspenseful music]

[line ringing]

[Magnus] Hello?

[Magnus] Hello, Wren.

[chimes]

You okay?

[upbeat cafe music plays]

[music continues]

Do you believe in ghosts?

[Rosalie] Why?

You can tell me.

Someone tried to warn me.

I should have listened.

You know, when you say

things like that...

you sound f*cking crazy.

You don't want Maya

to leave you, do you?

She's not gonna

want to have a baby with

a psychotic mother, is she?

Can't move.

You know, this isn't my fault.

Your mother started all of this.

And so it has to be you.

You're gonna have a baby, Wren.

And it'll be a little girl.

And then I can have one.

Exorcisot imundesim spiritus.

Exorcisot imundesim spiritus.

Exorcisot imundesim spiritus.

[car pulls up]

[car door opens]

[door opens]

[Maya] Wren?

[door closes, keys drop]

[Maya] Wren.

[softly]

Shh. She's asleep.

She okay?

Yeah. She was just so tired.

Uh, there's more wine

if you'd like some.

I'm good.

I'm tired, so...

I think we'll

just call it a night.

Sure.

I can come back tomorrow

to check on her.

She really was pregnant, right?

She was.

You don't need to check in

on her tomorrow.

She's fine.

Okay.

[lighter flicks]

[suspenseful music]

Mm-hm. [inhales]

[exhales]

[Wren chuckles]

I hate being in this house

without you.

Come here.

I love you.

I love you.

I think we should try again.

[laughs]

[reflective piano music]

[piano music continues]

[piano music continues]

[Wren chanting

in foreign language]

[chanting in foreign language]

[in English]

...and bring it to this plane,

and let it manifest...

as our deepest hearts' desires.

And this time,

we will be prepared.

[reflective piano music]

[shouts]

[piano music intensifies]

[piano music continues]

You guys know

this day is very special to us,

especially with our little one

on the way.

They took your baby!

Or did you give it to them?

Did you give it to them?

[Wren shudders]

Tell me!

[shudders]

I'm, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry.

-[slices skin, blood splatters]

-[spectators scream]

[indistinct chatter]

I'm sorry I ruined

your special day.

I don't want to live anymore.

Not without my daughter.

It never goes away.

I understand.

I know you do.

I knew your mother.

We were girls

at school together.

I even met you once.

Not long after you came home

from this hospital.

Took a picture of you

in her arms...

before you were taken away.

Why did she take me?

She didn't take you.

Her sister took you.

With your uncle.

They disappeared with you.

It had been planned.

What are you saying?

That Birgit is my mother?

No, that's not...

that's not possible.

She...

She was barren.

She was.

She confided in me.

She'd gone into the woods

and performed some ritual...

and it had worked.

She was pregnant.

But when you were born...

she said

a demon came to claim you,

so they smuggled

you away one night.

When you were taken away...

they came for all our children.

Beginning with mine.

A demon's wrath.

And your mother she...

she helped.

Made herself a servant

of the Devil.

I don't know what it wants

with you, but it can't be good.

I've seen your daughter.

She talked to me.

She tried to warn me.

This is her.

You saw this little girl?

That picture was taken

years ago. She...

she doesn't look

like that anymore.

She'd look different now.

You've got the curse.

Just like your mother!

No. No, no, no.

-You're a witch!

-No, no, no.

[Carolyn] Get away from me.

Witch!

You're a witch!

Get away!

[groans]

You're a witch! Witch! Witch!

[Carolyn screams]

[Maya] Simon!

[Maya] Simon!

Simon!

[suspenseful music]

Simon!

Simon!

Simon!

Simon!

[dripping]

[suspenseful music intensifies]

[sobbing]

Maya!

Simon's dead.

I found him in the woods.

Someone did something to him.

I don't know. [cries]

No.

What is this?

Where did you find that?

Down by the stables.

With your shrine.

-Do you know who did this?

-No.

-Was it that crazy woman?

-I don't know!

Then what the hell is going on?

I don't know, Maya.

I don't know.

I got that in the library.

A while ago. Quentin found it.

I was...

I was looking for answers

about Henry.

Something happened.

Something I can't fully explain,

and I don't want it

to happen again.

Something like this?

-Something like that?

-Yes.

[scoffs]

This was a mistake.

You need to trust me.

There are things in this book

that could save our lives.

Are you listening to yourself?

Please, please listen to me.

Why?

My mother performed

a ritual in those woods.

I think it's...

how I was born.

Now...

there's something...

out there...

that has come back for me.

It took Henry.

[door shuts]

[deputy] So, when did you

take ownership of the property?

[Wren] About a year ago.

[deputy] Have you seen

anyone else around the property?

No.

Hm.

There was a cold case

concerning the prior owner.

Birgit?

Miss Sorensen, yeah.

She... she hanged herself.

No. She was strung up...

by her wrists.

Sliced open.

She was, uh...

I don't know, um...

She was sort of

like your dog out there.

It's hard not to think

there's some sort of connection.

Yeah.

[suspenseful music]

[cell phone rings]

[ringing]

[water pours]

[Quentin] Hey, Wren,

it's Quentin.

Um, I'm calling again.

I just... please

give me a call back

when you get a cha--

Hello?

Uh, Carol?

[suspenseful music]

Uh, we're definitely closed.

[suspenseful music intensifies]

Hello?

Hello?

-[slashes]

-[Quentin shouts

[Quentin falls to the ground]

[thumps, gags]

[gagging]

[music intensifies]

[Quentin]

Hey, Wren, it's Quentin.

There's something weird

going on.

I'm in--

I, I was watching some

of the live streams

that people were posting

of your wedding,

and I think I saw, uh...

I think I saw a woman

that I know...

uh, stealing your dog?

I don't know, I'm not

trying to freak you out,

but I just feel like--

[loud thump]

[shotgun blasts]

[can clatters]

[suspenseful music]

[soft gasp]

[music intensifies]

What is this?

The only time I've seen

one of those was that

night at your house,

when Wren had it out.

Are you okay?

Maya?

Maya, why don't you

sit down for a minute.

I've been doing this

for a long time.

Taking care of lots of women,

and I've seen lots of things.

Things that I can't ever unsee.

And I can't help it.

I have...

some concerns... about Wren.

She's not well.

What do you mean?

Her pregnancy with Henry.

I thought you said

it was a real pregnancy.

It was.

But I think she might have

done something to the baby.

f*ck you.

How dare you?

-You don't know what it means

to be a mom. No, f*ck you!

-Look--

Wren needs us.

I don't think that she knows

what she's doing.

It was a mistake coming here.

[Rosalie] The night that you

lost Henry...

Did anything happen?

No.

She had a nightmare.

About what?

I don't know.

Her feet.

There was dirt on them.

There was dirt on them.

I think she was

in the woods that night.

Oh, Maya.

I think you should

be worried about your baby.

I can call

the hospital and schedule

a psychiatric evaluation

and see if they'll admit her,

but we have to do it now.

I can't go through that.

Yes...

You can.

I can't.

Wren needs you.

She's not going to want to go.

She's going to resist.

And you need to be strong.

She needs help.

[suspenseful music]

[deputy] How you doing?

Uh, fine, yeah. Better.

You feeling all right?

I think you should have

the medics take a look at you.

No, I just, I...

[talking over each other]

Just don't touch me.

Y'all need

to figure out what the f*ck

is going on around here.

[engine starts]

[tires squeal]

[suspenseful music]

Oh, sh*t.

[shudders]

Maya!

Maya! Maya, we have to go.

We have to go! [sobs]

Maya!

Maya! [sobs]

[Wren] They're coming after me.

[breathing heavily]

You have to take this.

Get in the car.

-We have to go right now.

-Hold on a second.

They k*lled Quentin.

They k*lled Quentin.

First Paul,

and now that poor kid.

-You need to calm down, okay?

-I am calm! I'm fine!

Listen! Listen, listen.

We just have to go

to the hospital right now,

please.

I love you,

but you need help, okay?

-Okay.

-I'm gonna get you help.

- Oh, my God,

what is she doing here?

-Let's just--

What is she doing here ?

No, no, no!

She's gonna help you.

She k*lled Simon!

I know you! I know you!

I saw the video!

This is for your own good!

Just calm down!

No! We have to go!

We have you do!

-Ah! [gags]

-[music intensifies]

[groaning]

What the f*ck did you just do?

-It's okay.

-[groaning]

Her water broke!

[groaning] I know about you--

I know about the children.

Can we just get her

to the hospital, please?

It's okay, it's okay.

It's okay. It's all right.

[Maya falls to the ground]

I...

I am sorry.

And I didn't k*ll your mother.

We tried to end this years ago,

and they k*lled her.

And they cursed me...

so I can't have a child

unless I do something terrible.

[flames roar]

[Rosalie] I have to take

your baby girl, Wren.

[flames roar]

[suspenseful music]

[rhythmic drumbeat]

[drumbeat continues]

[drumbeat intensifies]

[distant drumbeat]

[gasps]

[rhythmic drumbeat continues]

[shudders]

[pants, shudders]

Help! Help!

Help!

[Wren] Help me!

[panting, sobbing]

No!

[indistinct pleading]

[sobs]

No. Please, please, please.

Help!

Please!

Help!

- Please!

-[voice growls]

Please stop!

Stop!

Please stop!

Please stop it!

Stop! [sobs]

[drumbeat intensifies]

[Wren cries out]

[shouts, pants]

[groans]

[screams]

[panting, groaning, shouts]

[shouts]

[shouts, pants]

[Wren shouts]

[moans, gasps]

-[baby cries]

-No, no, no, no.

[gasps]

Where are you taking her?!

-[baby cries]

-[Wren] Please, give her to--

[Wren gasps] Please!

-[baby cries]

[Wren gasps, shouts]

-[baby cries]

-[Wren gasps]

[Wren] Please,

what are you doing?!

[gasps]

-[shudders] Please, please.

-[baby cries]

You have the baby.

Now take it away.

Take the curse away.

-[suspenseful music]

-Please. You promised.

No! No!

[crying]

[panting, shuddering]

[music intensifies]

[boom, ringing]

[shuddering, panting]

[moaning]

[indistinct sobbing]

Are you okay?

[sobbing, shuddering]

[gasping, moaning]

[gasping, groaning]

-[Maya] You okay?

-[Wren muttering]

[gasping]

[gasping]

-[intense music]

-[Wren gasps]

-[music intensifies]

-[gasping]

[panting, groans]

-[shouts]

-[slashes]

-[shouts]

-[slashes]

-[shouts]

-[slashes]

-[shouts]

-[slashes]

[groans]

[baby whimpers softly]

[baby whimpers]

[music intensifies]

[baby cries]

[baby whimpers]

Go.

[eerily mournful music plays]

[rocks scratching]

-[rocks scratching]

-[sighs]

[rocks scratching]

[music intensifies]

[music subsides]

[piano theme plays]

[eerie orchestral theme rises]

[theme fades]
