to conceal this position,

and just observe for the next
few days.

I can hear a thing breathing
that's right above us.

a blind into the hillside,

survivalist Russell Acord

to the sound
of a large animal
moving nearby.

to where I had laid back,

just to rest my eyes
for a little bit.

And something came
right at the back
of the blind.

It was big, but when I came
out the front,

brought up
my night vision goggles
to look on the hillside,

it was gone.

I got nothing.

I know it was
right next to me.

If it was by design, and it
was coming to check us out,
I have no idea.

But I'm disappointed
that all the work that I put
into this thing

has been compromised.

When I set up this blind,

I anticipated staying here
for a couple more days.

This was not the way I wanted
to finish this evening.

[Russell whispering] That
thing was right here.

[Russell] It's like it
almost walked
right on top of us.

I was, like, dead asleep.

I have no idea what that was.

[Russell] It was
freaky, wasn't it?

[Zack] Have you ever woke up
to something breathing?

No. That was crazy.

My heart's still beating.

Tomorrow morning I wanna see
if I can find any tracks
up here.

[sighing in exhaustion]

[Russell] I'm so exhausted,
but I'm wide awake right now.

[sighing in exhaustion]

[Bryce] We're almost there.

[narrator] Based on witness
testimony,

Bryce Johnson was
investigating a lake

that he believed was
a likely Bigfoot hotspot

on the edge
of their target zone.

[Bryce] I don't see anything.

[narrator] But his
investigation yielded
few results.

[Bryce] I just left the lake,
and now I'm on my way

to speak with a witness
named Keith,
who's ex-military.

When he was younger
in his teenage years,

he was out with his buddy
camping at a lake,

very similar to the lake
I was investigating earlier,

and experienced something
terrifying.

He's been in a lot
of dangerous situations
being in the military,

but, uh, nothing that
compared to this.

Thank you so much for, uh,
taking the time to meet
with me, out here, tonight.

I understand you have
a Bigfoot story that you'd be
willing to share with me.

-I have, yeah.

What happened?

In '88, me and one
of my buddies arranged to do
a five-day backpack trip.

And so we were making
good time.

We were just doing
a big loop and going back
to where we started.

The second to last night
we played the whistling game.

One person would sneak out
of camp, and then they
whistle, ever so often,

to kind of give away
their position.

-Right.
-But they've gotta sneak back
into camp without being seen.

So we did that
for a good hour or so.

Came back into camp
and stroked up the fire.

And it felt like somebody
was walking right next to me.

I could feel the impact
on the ground.

Wow.

Boom, boom, boom, boom.

[scoffs]

It's not comfortable
all the sudden.

It's like I'm back
there again.

-Uh.
-It's okay. Yeah. Be...

Um, I've never been
that scared.

-Could you see anything or...
-No.

It was so dark through.

It was really, really, like,
thicker than that.
It was so thick.

It stopped for a little bit,
and then it started moving
behind us.

I knew, for sure, I was being
watched.

That's when I said,
"We could be in danger."

This thing was circling us,
back and forth,
back and forth.

And I think it was curious.

I think it had two boys
in the woods that it knew
it could take.

And then I turned and looked,
and what I saw
was pure silhouette.

Wow.

Terrifying.

How big are we talking
width-wise?

Two of you.

And tall as I could reach.

Could you get a look
at this creature's face
or its eyes?

No. The moon was behind it.
I couldn't see
facial features.

The hair though,
coming off its neck
and its shoulders.

Long course hair.

And as soon as I turned,
it was gone.

So I said, "Did you see
what I just saw?"

And my friend, he said,
"I've been sitting here,
watching it,

for the last five minutes."

And he was too scared
to even say anything.

To this day that image is
burned in my brain.

Um, it won't go away.

I think it's strange
that it happened

after you guys were playing
this whistling game.

Some people call Bigfoot
the "Midnight Whistler,"

but they say it uses whistling
to communicate.

And look, that's
a common occurrence

that comes up in Sasquatch
encounters and reports,
going back hundreds of years.

Yeah.

Keith tells the story
of a hostile stalking
encounter with a Bigfoot.

And I strongly feel
that the whistling game he was
playing with his friend,

is the reason why Bigfoot
was interested in them,
in the first place.

I think using whistling as
a means to attract a Bigfoot
is worth a try.

Even if it does make
them hostile,
like it did with Keith.

I don't know. Maybe we were
near its home, and it was
just making sure

we weren't gonna
cause it harm.

It could have made
a demonstration.

It could have done anything
it wanted to, including tear
us to pieces.

[narrator] Nine miles
from Bryce's location,

Bigfoot researcher,

and primatologist,
Dr. Mireya Mayor,

are investigating an area

where they've come across
some mysterious findings,

including what appeared to be
a large figure standing
on the cliff above them.

That looked like a form
standing there.

a trail here.

that amazing primitive
fish trap,

and what looked like a figure
on the top of that ridgeline,

we decided to set up
trail cameras

all along the river banks.

[Ronny] If there is
something out here,

we need to have as
many eyes on this area
as possible,

so we can capture proof.

Where you saw that figure
standing up on the ridge,
how far down that way was it?

the fish trap?
-Yeah.

So it was like
directly this way.

this fish trap,

we start to hear these rocks
falling from the cliff again,
directly across from us.

There's definitely something
over here.

[Ronny] Now it seems to me
that figure,
the rocks falling,

the fish trap,
there's something up
on that ridgeline

that doesn't want us here.

directly across
from the fish trap over there.

I don't see anything
up there.

Turn the light off
for a second.

I just saw something move
up there.

going on here?

-It feels almost as if
something is messing with us.

[Mireya] We've just gotten
here,

and already some
really strange things
are happening.

We heard rocks
falling from up top,

and I saw, what appeared
to be, eyeshine,

reflected off the flashlight.

It's almost as if something is
watching us from above.

[Mireya] Okay. I'm gonna try
my IR camera.

What've you got?

[Mireya] I don't see anything
through my thermal.

[Ronny] What the [bleep]?

There's definitely something
over here.

[Mireya] I mean, we can set
a trail cam right here.

Mireya and I decided to set up
a trail cam

directly in front
of this fish trap.

[rocks falling]

What...

Was that?

And when we did, immediately,
rocks start falling again
from the same spot.

-Yeah, again.

-[Mireya] The minute I pointed
this at the trap...

[Ronny] This is really weird.

Every time we flash our lights
on it,

the rocks start to fall
from the ravine again.

It's almost this indication
that something wants us to get
out of there.

[Mireya] That's so weird.

There it is again.

[whispering] The interesting
thing with a lot of encounters

when people get rocks thrown
at them

they're in this territory
that these things want them
out of.

It's always like a deterrent
to keep you away
from certain areas.

Almost like, they don't want
us to go over there.

[whispering] Come on, no way.

They're probably trying
to come down to fish
or whatever.

And we're messing up
their hunt.

So they're trying to scare us
off with the rocks.

And they've been following us
all along.

Or it could just be an animal
up there just walking.

[Ronny] Okay, so the
rocks falling down

definitely have stopped.

[Mireya] Yeah.
Here's the thing.

Whatever is up there

has not left since we
were here earlier.

-[Ronny] Right.
-[Mireya] It's in the
exact same spot.

And whatever's over
there isn't scared.

It's not moving away.

-[Ronny] No.
-[Mireya] It knows we
just set up camp.

There's a good chance

that if we go there tomorrow,

whatever is there now,

-may still very well be there.
-Be there tomorrow.

[Mireya] It seems
like all the activity

that we're getting is
coming from that ridge.

So tomorrow morning, we're
gonna check those trail cams

then hit the river and
try to find an opening

where we can get
up to that ridge

and scour for evidence.

So we've set up
this trail cam,

which is to me, the...

-probably the most
important one along here.
-Mmm-hmm.

Why don't we make
our way back to camp...

-Yeah.
-...and see what happens,

so that we can
get out there tomorrow.

So Russell sent me this video

of his scope, which
is really cool.

And the object in
it is over a mile away.

[narrator] At the
command center,

Bryce Johnson
is taking a second look

at the footage
Russell filmed yesterday,

that appears to contain
a mysterious anomaly.

Just to be clear, making
any kind of assessment

on something that far away

is just guesswork
at this point, but...

I do see something

in these trees
moving around right there.

It definitely catches
my attention

and I can see why
Russell sent it to me.

It looks like something sort
of pops its head up there

for a second,

popping out of
this tree right here.

I mean, that's...

that's interesting.

[sighs]

Half of me's like, oh,
no, that's nothing,

it's just an optical illusion

created by the
movement of the trees.

You know, there are
a lot of shadows back there.

The trees are moving
around in the wind.

But then I watch
it again and I go,

oh, wait, no, that looks like

a Bigfoot popping its head out

to take a look around.

It's really hard to tell,

and it shows how
hard this job is

when we're looking
for something

that blends into
its environment.

So it's really hard to discern

if this video is

an optical illusion,
or a Bigfoot.

[Russell] The ground
around here

is pretty clear.

You can tell if something's
been stomping through here,

because the
undergrowth will be

beat down pretty good.

Last night, my element
of surprise was blown.

All the work that I had put in

was compromised.

Whatever approached the
back of that blind last night

slipped into the ravine

and crossed this river.

That's where I'm headed,

because that's where
it's leading me.

[narrator] After
leaving his blind,

Russell is making his way

to the river below,

upstream from where
the footprints were found

last year.

[Russell] Something has
moved through here.

No way. Look at this.

That is a footprint.

Take a look at this.

Something came through.

Something big.

Water's right down below me.

The rest of the team is
exploring the river South.

Makes sense for me
to head upstream.

It dropped down on this water,

and then walked upstream.

Last year,

I would say less than
a mile and a half

downriver is where
we got that great footprint.

So I know we're
in the right spot.

And I need to be
careful. This gets a lot
deeper through here.

If we walk nice and slow,
we can keep that sound down.

Slippery, isn't it?

This is the hottest
trail we've got so far.

This is necessary.

But it's not comfortable.

Tactically,

you gotta weigh out
the pros and cons.

I have cliffs on
both sides of me.

There's only one way in,

one way out.

I never like putting myself
in that position, ever.

This gets used fairly often.

It's been beaten down and
all that moss has
been stripped away.

So this is...

I would imagine there's a lot
of game comes through
here, there's a lot of

traffic in this area.

I know that the animals
use this area to drink.

Once they get down,

getting back up

is not as easy.

Imagine something coming
down, getting spooked,

and not being able
to get back up.

It's stuck here.

It's literally at the mercy

of whatever might
be pursuing it.

So I have

a very uneasy feeling.

Oh, look at this.

This almost looks like
a... like a footprint.

You saw a shadow behind me,

which would put it on this

hillside here, right?

Right where that
sun was coming through.

That had to have
been pretty tall.

I tell you what,

if something's running
side by side with us

up on that top of that point,

I don't like that.

This is a vulnerable spot.

Instinctively, the

But if Bigfoot is stalking me,

I have no idea
what the intent is.

Should I feel threatened

or should I feel

that it's just curious?

I don't know.

It's a very, very
uneasy feeling.

You feel like we're
being watched?

So we'll check the trail cams.

what's making
those rocks fall.

Last night did not disappoint.

With that figure,
the rocks falling,

the fish trap and eye shine,

it seems pretty obvious
that there's something

up on that ridge line

that doesn't want us here.

[Mireya] Nothing on this one.

-Nothing on this one, either.
-Jeez.

[Ronny] This was
really disappointing,

because we didn't get

the evidence or that
clear picture of what
exactly it was.

There were no anomalies,
nothing stood out,

nothing was there to be seen.

-They've only been
on here a night,

so I'm not really that
surprised we
didn't get anything.

-But there's a good chance
once we leave, any animals...
-Something will...

Yeah, that were around
will come back.

Need to get up there.

some really strange
things happening.

And I want nothing more

than to get across this river

on the other side

where that ridge is

to see if we could find

anything physical

of what was standing there,

of what was
kicking down rocks.

I mean, there's no way
that we can scale that,

so, only way is

-take the boats down that way.

And see if there's an area

that we can park the boats

-and start trekking.
-Trekking in.

[Mireya] Ronny
describes seeing

a figure standing
up on that ridge.

That could leave

some kind of physical
evidence. So,

we need to get up
on that ridge.

But the further up we go,

the steeper and taller
these sides get.

It's like these canyons
are closing in on us.

I can't turn back now.

I was up on top on that point

a shadow cross the
hillside behind me,

which was indicative of it
being across from me

running parallel with me.

It doesn't look like
the backpack

is creating the shadow.

It looks like

something upright was walking
on the ridge above you.

primate pheromone

on the target zone.

these canyons close in on me,

the less comfortable I am.

I mean, look, more than
likely it's probably

something above just
casting a shadow,

but my mind does go to

this idea that I've heard
about and I've read about.

It's this concept

of shadow beings or
shadow people.

There are people within the
Bigfoot community

that do believe that
these creatures

have the ability to shapeshift

into shadow-like entities.

There's a Native
American tribe

not too far from here

called the Muckleshoot.

And they tell stories

of a shapeshifting trickster

that often appears as a shadow

that roams the
Pacific Northwest.

Also, the Choctaw tribe

have this mythology

of this creature called
the Nalusa Falaya,

or "long shadow being".

And sort of roams the
woods around dusk

scaring off children
who stay up too late,

and oftentimes,
frightening hunters.

This idea of shadow entities

appears in just
about every religion

from around the world.

From Christianity to Judaism

to Islam.

There's even a Hebrew word,

"Rephaim",

which can be translated into

"long, shadowy being"

and "tall creature of
mighty stature, giant".

Look, we've been
doing this too long

to discount anything

because it sounds strange

or out of the box.

Now, whether or not Bigfoot

is shapeshifting
into a shadow,

I don't know. But I'm
intrigued by this video.

I almost feel like
I need to cross.

If you look up above here,

I'm gonna start running
out of ground on this side.

So I'm gonna cross

where it's more shallow.

Something had
crossed that hillside

and cast a shadow on my right.

As we're moving upstream,

whatever it is is
moving upstream.

And it's intelligent
enough to know

to stay out of
my line of sight.

Something just moved
on that ridgeline.

Zack, that was
from right there.

It feels like you could be
ambushed really,
really easy here.

I don't wanna be down
here in the dark.

Let's see if we can't find a
way up out of this canyon.

[Ronny] Yeah. Man, it's
dark in there.

[Ronny] It's blocking out
all the light.

-[Mireya] It's crazy how much
the forest changes so quickly.

[Mireya] But this is a really
good trail that we can move
a little bit quicker on.

[Mireya] Right now,
we're looking for a way to get
to that ridge above our camp

where we've had
so much activity.

Because the first thing that
you have to do when you are
searching for an animal is

see it,
establish that it's there.

And the only way to do that
is to pursue it.

Given how much
we experienced last night,

it's really worthwhile
to get up on that ridge,

and see if there's
any physical evidence there.

[Mireya] Forest
is real alive tonight.

[Ronny] How much further
do you think?

-[Mireya] I don't know.
We went quite a ways.
-Yeah.

Two to three miles downriver,

-it's gonna take us a while.
-[Ronny] That's not bad,
right?

Did you spot something
over there?

Uh, just a little opening.
I wasn't sure
if there was another path...

[breathing heavily]
...for us to take.

[Mireya] I think we should
stay on this trail,

-given what time it is.
-Yeah.

But also, that looks
really steep.

[Ronny] Jeez...

There's a thing I've always
noticed when I walk into
different parts of

forest in different parts
of the world and it's almost
as if they all have...

-sort of,
distinctive personalities.
-Right, yeah.

Some forests seem little bit
more welcoming.

Kinda feeling that sensation
of being watched.

I don't know quite how
to explain what I'm feeling.

You know? It's not really
something that I can
put my finger on.

Yeah, it's almost like
different levels here.

It always seems to be
a pre-cursor before
something's gonna happen.

[Russell] Let's just see
if we can't find a game trail
and get outta here.

That was weird.
Something hit the ground
and I don't know what it is.

[Russell] It was right up
in here. In these trees.

[softly] Whatever it is,
it's running parallel with us.

-[rustling]
-[Russell] Wonder if we can
get up on this.

-Did you hear that?
-[Zack] That's a rock drop.

[Russell] There is something
interested in us out there.

I've heard stories
that the Bigfoot
would throw rocks.

And it seems like
that would be a warning,
telling us,

"You're not welcome here."

There's something up there.

[Russell] I mean, even though
we've got a body of water
between us and it,

I still don't like being
on this little piece.

That water...

is putting off too much sound
for me.

And being down at this bottom,
I don't-- I'm not comfortable
with that at all.

You're kind of in an
ambush position right here.

All right, take a look
at this cliff right here
on this side.

There's no way you and I
are gonna get up that.

And look here,
to the other side of this.
This stuff goes straight up.

We might actually be stuck
on this bottom tonight.

The further I go, these cliffs
on both sides of this water

provide no exit.

So, I have to settle in
for the night,

get dried out and find
a safe place to be.

I found a spot where
I'm gonna stay the night.

It has to be
pretty dense forest.
Good cover and concealment.

There's water on the other
two sides of me,

so anything that wanted
to get to me,

will have to cross
that body of water
and I will hear that movement.

We'll have eyes out here.

Run that thermal imaging.

[whispering] And keep an eye
on things tonight.

Right now,
I feel like the prey.
And I'm stuck here.

[Bryce whispering]
Man, it is a beautiful night.

Perfect night
for some activity.

After talking to the witness,
Keith Scott,

and hearing that he had
a terrifying Bigfoot encounter

while playing a whistling game
in the woods...

I wanted to come back
to this lake

that I still think
is a Bigfoot hotspot,

and use this whistling method.

And look, maybe we can coax
something out of hiding.

of any Bigfoot

I've read so many reports
where these creatures

mimic the sounds
of the forest around them.

thrown against a tree.

I mean, there was something...

But I'm not
picking up anything.

Sounded big.

That was
the exact whistle I made.

Whatever it was, it felt
like I was communicating with
something there for a second.

There's no way to get
to the other side.

It's all just fallen logs

and deep water,

and there's extremely steep
ridges surrounding the lake.

There just doesn't look like
there's any viable way across

without really risking
my safety.

I can't get to the other side
to investigate.

But it really felt
like I was communicating
with something there.

And there are no birds
in this area that make those
kinds of whistles.

It's clear. We're not alone
at this lake.

Even though, I can't make it
over there right now,

I'm definitely not done
with this place

and I'm not
giving up on it yet.

[Mireya] The tough part
is gonna be figuring out

-where we are in relation
to where our camp was.
-[Ronny] Yeah.

[narrator] High above
their camp,

Ronny and Mireya
are approaching the cliff

where they've witnessed
a large amount
of mysterious activity.

[Mireya whispering] It's gonna
be pretty difficult to
navigate this at night.

We just have to be
really careful
because of that drop-off.

[Ronny] Between that figure
I saw on that ridge line
and the rocks

falling directly above
where that fish trap
was last night,

we need to get to the top
to find the source

of all this activity
that's been happening.

-All right, this way?
-[Mireya] Mmm-mmm.

Also not good.

[Ronny] All right.

-Do you think we can get
through? Is it too thick?
-[Mireya] It's pretty thick.

These ferns just engulf you.

-Whoa! Stop guys, stop.

the ridge here.
-Yeah, it's a big drop.

We're making our way
through the thick brush,
and suddenly...

it just drops down
to the river below us.

It is terrifying that
you can't see anything
in front of you,

but you know, directly ahead
is a 50 foot drop.

-[leaves rustling]

through the ferns.

we are hearing these sounds

moving through the forest.

And it feels eerie
when you're in the middle
of the woods

and you're hearing sounds,
but you're not seeing what
is making them.

[Ronny] I was hearing it
and then,
it completely stopped.

It's hard to tell but I think
it headed towards the river.

[Mireya] Well, unfortunately,

vegetation here, we're not
gonna pick up any footprints.

[Mireya] And we can't
camp here. We should
just start heading back.

We're out here in the dark
where it's extremely dense

and visibility is really low.

And I can't really see
where I'm going anymore.

It's really steep,
it's just too dangerous.

So, we're gonna call it
a night, and come back
tomorrow morning

when we can actually
see things better.

It's gonna take us
a couple hours to hike back
down safely.

So, let's head back to camp
and pick this
