let's take a look at earth's moon for

example it has a truly fascinating

surface much of which can be seen from

earth

for years scientists have studied the

surface of the earth's moon

to explore the craters and the rocks

they aren't exactly tasty but they sure

made us want to learn more about the

moon yeah and there's still a lot we

don't know

well the night is still young and the

moon is still full and every time you

explore the land of i don't know you

experience the best part of being a

scientist the excitement of discovery

it's not what you know but what you

think you know that leads you to

discover new things

they've also learned that if you're

going to the moon bring your own cheese

which takes about a month those phases

ever notice how earth moon seems to

change shape every night

half of the moon is always lit by the

sun

but as the moon goes around earth only

different parts of the lighted half can

be seen so the moon appears to have

different shapes as it travels around

earth

these different shapes are called phases

do the phases have names they sure do

when we can't see the moon we call it a

new moon when the moon looks like this

we call it a crescent moon when it looks

like this we call it a quarter moon and

when it looks like this we call it a

full moon

then when it looks like this again it's

a quarter moon then another crescent

moon and then when we can't see anything

again it's a new moon

wow that's really cool and it takes

about one month to see all the moons

phases right right you are

bula will look like his old self during

the day

but don't be fooled every night as the

moon gets closer to being a full moon

bulla will become more and more like a

mouse then during the full moon he'll

completely change into yeah i know i
