asteroids comets or other space objects

fall from space and crash into the

moon's surface planets asteroids even

comets can have craters too whoa not so

close we don't want to make another

greater wow mercury has a ton of craters

craters aren't always that easy to see

sometimes they're hidden sandstorms

earthquakes volcanoes and Glaciers are

just some of the things that can smooth

out the surface of craters causing them

to be hidden with all that I died too

we say the surface of a planet or a moon

is old if it hasn't changed in a very

long time and young if it is still

changing a lot craters help tell you how

old the surface of a planet or moon is

the fewer craters the younger the

surface is

some of Earth's craters are in hard to

reach places like under the oceans if

someone is stealing craters that water

might slow them down maybe we can still

catch them there sure are some

interesting looking creatures down here

there are a lot of different fish yeah

and have you ever seen one that's pink

and green striped and wearing glasses

I need more blemish no more this

this is all a big misunderstanding I was

making the planets beautiful oh haven't

in and you can help by cleaning your

blemish no more off of every crater till

they're all back to the way they were

no one appreciates true genius

well I guess we'll have to hike our Moon

crater later that's okay that'll give us

a chance to draw Earth's craters and

maybe even see them being made look up

burned up before it could make a crater

the atmosphere the layer of air around

the planet stopped it maybe that's why

some planets get hit more than others

and get more craters

Mercury doesn't have an atmosphere so

there's nothing to stop asteroids from

hitting the planet that's why mercury

has lots of craters Venus has a thick

atmosphere so only really big asteroids

can make it through that's why Venus

never had many Critters wonderful

observations of course some planets and

moons have changing surfaces that hide

their craters so you can't always judge

a planet by its cover

oh I've changed my mind y'all must find

my creators no body knows who

are my own mother thought I was a space

makes them dinosaurs on pogo sticks no

silly craters are made when asteroids

comets or other space objects crash into

the surface of another space object like

a planet or Moon the number of craters

on a planet are moon's surface can tell

us how old that surface is the more

craters the older the surface you might

say they leave quite an impact

habitat don't you habitat what's a

habitat a habitat is any place where an

animal or plant lives

insects and many other creatures make

their habitats in canyons

what is a canyon anyway let's check the

multopedia

a canyon is a deep valley with deep rock

walls on either side they can be formed

over a long long time by glaciers or

flowing water

or by the motion of plates big chunks of

a planet surface that fit together like

a jigsaw puzzle puzzle

canyons exist everywhere even on other

planets and moons on earth canyons

include habitats for many living things

different kinds of plants and animals

live in different parts of the canyon

they work together with non-living

things like water rocks and sunlight to

help each other survive they all depend

on one another and that's called an

ecosystem

but why do different animals live in

different parts of the canyon

yeah i wonder why they don't all just

move in together

every time i move my asteroid hideout

the zulu patrol finds it right you

it's a whole ecosystem chock full of

habitats right and if we're gonna figure

out why different animals live in

different parts of the canyon

look there are birds and wood rats in

the cracks in the canyon walls

i bet those are good places for them to

spot things they can eat

oh sorry excuse me my fault it's these

dark sunglasses

so why are you wearing them because i'm

not used to being out in the daytime

oh my gosh the moon's on fire

uh that's the sun i'll be glad to get

out of here all us bats and the rats and

birds are leaving because of the rock

slides

something way up in the canyon is making

all kinds of noise and shaking

everything

our homes are wrecked most of my friends

have already moved away it's messed up

our habitat in the whole ecosystem with

no bats left to eat their bugs there are

more bugs than ever so the bugs are

eating all their plants in the canyon

and that means there are no plans left

for the other animals to eat

so now everyone's moving out

look it's terrible a catastrophe a

disaster

well

this is awful those rock slides are

ruining the canyons ecosystem

but what's causing the rock slides let's

start looking for clues

now that's a clue follow that sound

floor to find out why lizards and snakes

and so many plants live here because it

is here that we become one with the

canyon um

what do you mean one with the canyon we

reptiles do not make our own body heat

so we must get heat from our

surroundings that is why many of us live

in the warmest part of the canyon the

bottom

right now it looks like you're the only

one

it's true there are hardly any of us

left since the river dried up our

habitat has lost its water uh even the

insects have moved out and the few

plants they left behind wilted from lack

of water

so now there is no food or water why

would the river just dry up

we better make a call

looks like someone dug a trench at the

head of the canyon that led most of the

river away into a

a humongous swimming pool

are you sure you don't know anything

about an enormous swimming pool

absolutely totally

why because you're in it oh

this little puddle

if i didn't know better i'd be

suspicious mr fruiter well

make sure you stay out of trouble

those meddling meddlers they've turned

my pool into a big mud pie they still

didn't recognize you so let it go

why don't you stay inside your hideout

today let's see who lives up here at the

top of the canyon and why

the canyons upper rim is usually way

colder than the other levels especially

this time of year so what happened

oh by the way don't eat me

who knows a whole habitat suddenly

turned warmer

there isn't even any snow left

look there this is usually a great home

for bears and deer they've got those

thick coats to protect them from the

winter cold

those coats aren't doing them any good

today

well no wonder it's so warm up here at

the top of the canyon these huge

generators are melting all the snow

it's worse than that

look

that reservoir holds water for zooland

towns if that dam breaks let me guess

that will happen

this is a job for the zuma patrol

now that's what i call a repair

these overheated generators caused all

this trouble

it's time to pay mr fruiter another

visit

we should have known truder you've

wrecked the canyon's habitats and

damaged the rock they're built on the

whole ecosystem is ruined you're not

welcome in zula canyon well i'm staying

and there's nothing you zula patooties

can do about it

soon be back to normal the insects are

returning and the bats and the birds

will soon find cozy new crevices to live

in and we can help with replanting it's

important for all the creatures to come

back to their habitats and make the

canyon like it was each part of the

canyon ecosystem is different and

special when we change even one thing we

risk changing and losing a lot of other

things too

come back to the canyon with all your

companions we'll make it like it won't

be far

the lizard snake now can come back and

bake now on the roasty toasty canyon

the birds and the wood rats can put up

their doormats with all the canyon

looks like dog trudeau lost as usual

i love it when that happens

hello canyon explorers welcome to the

malto moment canyons are deep valleys

with steep rock walls on either side

different plants and animals get shelter

water and food in different areas we

call these areas habitats

some need the warmth and sunlight at the

bottom some live in cracks in the walls

while others prefer the chilly weather

at the top

do you know what we call it when living

and non-living things interact with and

depend on each other crowded

no not at all it's called an ecosystem

say you didn't put on safety gear for

climbing why we're just here in the lab

but now you're high off the ground and

you're made of glass oh
