called its luster or whether you can see

used to make steel which holds up

what is a crystal anyhow let's check the

a crystal is a solid made up of tiny

neatly shaped bits of matter in a

repeating pattern

minerals all occur naturally as crystals

rocks are made of minerals does that

mean rocks are crystals yes but they're

not always crystals you can see

some rocks called geodes have space

inside them where crystals can grow

here's one like that

they're so pretty

and they're even more special inside the

crystal let's take a closer look in a

crystal atom those the tiny bits that

make up all matter are locked together

in the same pattern over and over again

all through the crystal if you leave a

mineral alone to grow into its natural

shape without bumping into other

minerals or objects it will keep

following that same pattern as it grows

larger in other words it will grow into

a crystal it can happen in a geode or in

a cave or in any underground space

but not all crystals look the same

different minerals have different

patterns inside

other things can affect the crystal too

like temperature crystals have different

uses as well some rare crystals are cut

into gemstones for jewelry

and some crystals are so common you eat

them every day like salt or sugar and

some crystals are used

in radios

in cd players

and even in drill bits and we need a

crystal to fix the giddy upper i wonder
