He has changed the way
that he is eating,

and he has changed
his activity level.

And I truly believe Chris
can be compliant,

healthy after surgery,

but work towards that goal,
and ultimately,

that's why I gave him the green
light to go ahead with surgery.

This journey,
to get where I'm at right now,

has not been

and we'll walk around, and

what if you don't

Today, Chris is gonna
have a robotic sleeve gastrectomy,

which is basically where we
are gonna remove

the large portion of his
stomach, about 80% if it.

Kinda take your stomach from
a balloon down to a banana.

And really affect how much
food he can take in,

and cause him to feel full
much quicker.

I would worry about you more

Supposed to be a little nervous.

Chris has gone through
a lot of stuff,

to make sure that he's in tip
top shape to have the surgery.

Surgery itself, has risks of
cardiac and respiratory issues.

And, with Chris' history
of blood clots,

not only blood clots
in the legs,

but blood clots
that can migrate to the lungs,

called pulmonary embolism,
which can be very, very serious.

I'm feeling a little nervous
and anxious.

It's hard seeing him lay there

getting ready to go into surgery,
'cause he's always the rock.

Laying on the bed,
waiting for anesthesia and all that.

Minutes feel like
they're taking weeks.

You know, your nerves
are everywhere on the inside.

I've wanted this
for a very long time.

But

I'm scared.

Ultimately, you're always worried about
not waking up when you get put to sleep.

Immediately, I
see that Chris' liver is pretty big.

This can be very serious.

and it's been a long time coming.

excited, myself or Chris.

be a challenge.

He's got a lot
of central obesity.

He carries that weight
in his abdomen.

And the robotic technology
helps us deal with patients

who carry a lot of their
weight in their abdomen.

But it's still a challenge.

So, it's go time, now.

minutes until I can see him again.

Thinking and prayin' and hopin'
that he does well with the surgery.

So, today,
in Chris's surgery...

We have to be very careful.

Make sure we have
very meticulous dissection,

because one little thing
goes wrong

can be very difficult to get control of
those issues in a patient Chris's size.

The stomach's large.

Chris's tissue's pretty thick,
as well.

Immediately I see that
Chris's liver's pretty big.

We have to lift that up,
and out of the way.

This can be very serious.

Look at that little
house. It's right next to the park.

This time, Tammy's not gonna
change my mind about buying a house.

of what it could hold before.

So, that's from the incisions, but
mostly incisions are really small.

It's from the gas. We put
gas, or CO2, inside your belly

to kind of blow things up
so we can see.

It will get better, and I'll get
you some medicine for that too.

So I need you, a little bit later today,
once you get a little bit more awake,

do a bunch of walkin' for me,
and that'll make it go away. Okay?

And work on sipping constantly with
those fluids that they're gonna bring you,

and you'll have protein in it,
okay?

Any time we operate on patients,

we have to discuss
risks and complications.

If his pain
continues,

then we have to start looking for
other things that could be going on.

Signs of internal bleeding. If he starts
running a fever and his heart rate gets high,

we also would want to make sure

that he doesn't show signs
of leak.
