Bake Squad,

say hello to my friend, Jamaica.

[Bake Squad] Hi, Jamaica!

Jamaica, meet the one-and-only Bake Squad.

Hello, Bake Squad.

So, Jamaica, tell us about your non-profit

and the event.

I started Black Everywhere

ten years ago to build community,

and it has grown to over 8,000 members

all over the country.

- Oh, wow.

- Wow.

We volunteer,

we do voter registration drives,

fitness walks, we kayak,

we hike, you name it.

And it is our ten-year anniversary gala,

and we are entirely volunteer-run,

and we are going all out

celebrating one volunteer in particular,

and that's Mignon.

Look at that smile.

[Jamaica] Mignon has been a volunteer

for several years with Black Everywhere,

but recently,

she's really given it her all.

For 52 straight weeks

she went on fitness walks,

leading the Black community

in health and wellness.

She also volunteers at the LGBTQ center

and has just completed

her master's degree in social work.

- Wow.

- That's amazing.

Tell us a bit more about the party itself.

Is there a theme?

It is an '80s formal theme.

- [Maya-Camille] Oh, yeah!

- '80s!

- You know I love the '80s!

- [Ashley] Yes!

- So we are going to go over the top.

- Fun.

- We've got the cool sunglasses.

Gotta love the '80s.

People are going to be dancing.

Madonna will be playing.

There'll be some Whitney Houston.

There's a handle,

there's the speakers, knobs.

But for this, I don't have any molds.

You don't need this, do you?

- Good morning.

You got a lot going on

- Yes, I do.

- [Christina] What are you making?

[Christophe] Today, I'm making

three different cake cubes

inspired by '80s candies.

Coke-infused gummies,

Banana Runts, and Rainbow Nerds.

Then I'm making

a giant five-foot-tall cube

made of eight individual sugar cubes.

A giant cube?

There's Rubik's Cubes in the '80s.

It's that little game of the '80s,

matching all the cubes up

in line by color.

- That's correct.

- But you're making a giant one of sugar.

I've never done anything like this before.

The biggest sugar sculpture I ever made.

I need to make 48 panels of sugar.

Then I'm gonna have to glue one at a time.

I've never heard

of anything like this before.

So this is the thing.

The dessert will be hidden in the inside.

So the goal is to create little windows

in front of each cube

and we crack open in the center

and grab our dessert.

Lord. First of all, I love this idea,

but it is a very big vision.

- Sugar is very temperamental.

- It is.

Every one of these 48 panels

has to be absolutely perfect

in size and shape and structure,

because if one of the levels

of those sugar panels

is a little too off or a little crooked,

it's gonna shatter.

Right. But you know what?

I'm not alone today.

There is Sandy with me.

[high-pitched] My name is Sandy.

Oh, Lord. Sandy is your pet rock?

- [high-pitched] How are you doing today?

- Oh my Lord.

I am rooting for you. Go all the way.

I'll check on you later, my friend.

Let's do it.

[high-pitched] Thank you. That's so kind.

All right, get that cake mixing up.

Today I wanna make an edible photo booth,

themed the '80s prom.

I'm gonna make two cakes.

One that looks like a prom dress,

and one that looks like the '80s pants.

Gonna bake a lot of chocolate cake so

I can cut out the circles for the pants.

For the pants,

I'm gonna do a German chocolate cake,

because that is Mignon's favorite.

And for the dress, I'm gonna make

a colorful, tie-dye vanilla cake,

with turquoise buttercream

and a Pop Rock bark.

Cakes are in.

Today, I'm completely inspired by

the flavors and the fashion of the '80s.

Okay, this is gonna be good.

- Maya-Camille. What are you making?

- [Maya-Camille] Hey, Chef.

So one of the things that I love

about the '80s is the culture of hip-hop,

and a part of that is the fashion.

So I am inspired

to create five accessories.

I'm going to make a kufi hat

made out of vanilla cake

with peach cobbler filling.

Bamboo earrings made out of chocolate.

African medallion necklaces

made out of sugar cookie.

Chocolate name rings

with a caramel pecan filling.

Sweet potato pie

that resembles a fanny pack.

I love that you're tapping

into every pastry spirit in this kitchen.

Chocolate, cake, pie, cookie.

And you'll have a lot of details

that you have to be exacting about.

- Because you're also doing an illusion.

- Okay.

I'm on display to bring

these brilliant accessories to life.

- I love the vision. Good luck.

- Thank you, Chef.

[upbeat music plays]

I am using bamboo earrings to make a mold,

and once the mold is completed,

I will fill the mold with chocolate.

I'm gonna let that sit

and let it come together.

I'm gonna make a white chocolate bark.

Just gonna blend Pop Rocks

into white chocolate.

Then I'll crush this up into small pieces

and put it in the middle of the cake

for this dress.

[Christophe] Let's make the cherry jam

for the mini cubes.

[Maya-Camille] Peach cobbler.

Mm, smells so good.

[Gonzo] I have at least

100 pounds of chocolate going into this.

In order to make

this massive chocolate boom box,

I'm going to pour two giant panels

and then three other panels

that go on the sides.

On top of that,

I need to cast hundreds and hundreds

of different pieces

that attach to the actual boom box.

So many elements going into this.

[Maya-Camille] Pour my cake batter

for my kufi hat.

My desserts are going to have

Southern flavors,

because most Southern desserts

are also a part of Black culture.

Pop that into the oven.

Ashley, your edible photo booth

through the lens of an '80s prom

is totally rad,

is everything on everything

on everything. You did a great job.

Thank you.

Christophe. Jamaica.

[Jamaica] This is cool.

- You're into it?

- Yes, I'm very into it.

Today, we have Game On,

so we have three kinds of edible cubes

inspired from candy from the '80s.

- This cube is made of pure sugar.

- No.

Yes, it's 100% sugar,

and there is something on the inside.

What's inside?

- You just punch. Crack.

- Wait, is this real?

- [Christophe] It is. See the star?

- [Christina] Are you up for it?

- Heck yeah.

- [Christina] Okay.

- [both yelp]

- [Christophe] Whoa!

Okay, first of all,

that was quite a shot, my friend.

- Full of tiny little cubes.

- Come on. How cute is it?

[Christophe] My yellow cube

is inspired by Banana Runts

with a passion-mango vanilla cake

with a mascarpone banana mousse.

Mm-mm.

- No. It's so creamy.

- [Christina laughs]

This is delicious.

This is so good. Banana.

I got a little texture in there.

Are there actual banana candies

in the banana one?

Yes, there is.

It's the perfect little peekaboo

surprise moment of joy.

[Christophe] The blue cube

is inspired by Coke gummies

with Coke panna cotta,

caramel mousse, and vanilla cake.

It's rich, but it's still

really delicate and light.

I never knew you could make gummy cola

into a delicious, deep mousse.

[Christophe] The green cube

is inspired by Rainbow Nerds.

Chocolate mousse,

cherry jam, and chocolate cake.

[Jamaica] You honestly look at these

and think it's gonna be really dense,

but it ends up just being rich

in, like, the perfect

creamy, fruity, balanced way. Oh.

This dessert truly celebrates Mignon

and the things that she loves

while also transporting us

back to the '80s.

120%.

I will never be able to do

what I did today without my best friend.

[Maya-Camille] I call

this piece '80s Baby.

I wanted to celebrate

the fashion and impact

that Black people had on popular culture

through fashion, through design.

Everything that you see here

is edible.

- No.

- [Maya-Camille] Not only is it edible.

Some of it is wearable.

We have name rings

filled with a caramel-pecan filling,

and the kufi cake

is filled with peach cobbler.

No!

[Maya-Camille] And inside the fanny pack

is sweet potato pie.

- [Christina] Wanna do the honors?

- I'll do the ring first.

- Okay. Perfect. For you, mama.

- Yes.

- This is so creative. I'm digging in.

- Thank you.

Yeah, I'm like, "You can keep talking,

but I'm gonna start eating." [laughs]

It's

It's

- [Christina] What do you think?

- [Jamaica] So good.

It looks solid.

It's actually this delicate

little layer of chocolate

and then this creamy,

delicious

What? Magic.

[Christina] Maya-Camille,

your peach cobbler kufi cake

is rich and buttery.

The peach jam is fresh. Oh my gosh.

All right. Talk to me

- Gonzo.

- Hello, hello. Welcome.

- Tell me.

- Music, dessert together.

This is so much better than anything

I could have begun to imagine.

[Gonzo] So today we have Mix Tape Madness.

This is a giant chocolate boom box.

The whole thing is edible.

- That's a ton of chocolate.

- [Gonzo] Yeah.

The part that really gets me

is the tape collection.

[Christina] Did you check the titles?

We've got some Bake Squad classics.

What do you know about "Pie of the Tiger"?

No! "Pie of the Tiger."

[Gonzo] What about

"Total Eclipse of the Tart"?

[both laugh]

Each one of these cassettes

are different chocolate bars.

Stop lying. Let me see.

So we have strawberry shortcake,

pineapple upside-down cake,

and black forest cake.

[Jamaica] Oh, it's good.

And she loves

fruit and chocolate together.

- [Christina] So good.

- Best combo there.

I'm going in

for the pineapple upside-down.

Oh, it's so good.

[moans] You got that, like,

deep roast on the pineapple

you get from the top

of an upside-down cake.

Gonzo, it's just truly a work of art,

and come on, the flavors?

- Perfection.

- Gonzo, well done. Thank you so much.

Thank you very much.
