02x25 - Son, Father and...

Post by bunniefuu »

A half second
before the realization of the "now."

It's a divine state of mind

that even the person doing it
isn't aware of.

To grasp that "thing."

There is not a single person

who doesn't give off this "signal"
half a second before.

Both, their hands in their pockets,
are constantly observing.

Watching for the "now"
that will come at any second.

It is just like the sword,
sitting inside the sheath,

waiting for the moment it's drawn.

That moment could come at any time.

It could be now.

Or now.

Or even now.

Oh. That's right.

Huh?

Uh, what?

Two blood relatives, a father and his son,

guessing at each other's goals.

It's not quite right.

Uh...

Huh? What's he doing?

That's enough.

Huh?

There's no need to wait the half-second
before one of us... makes up his mind.

Huh? Why is he doing this?

Want me to tell you why?

Uh, please do.

Nothing will ever feel as rushed

as that half-second
before a decision's made.

Five seconds.

Uh...

I'll give a countdown
of the five seconds myself,

before letting loose
with my attack against you.

What?

You're not really
gonna count down, are you? Are you?!

I'll bend each one of my fingers,

and once all of my fingers are bent
and my hand transforms into a fist...

I'll let loose.

They were supposed to
just guess each other's trigger moment,

but he's turned it
into a completely different game.

The physical preparation.

The mental preparation.

Prepare yourself fully.

Now, hold on right there!

I haven't agreed to anything!

Five.

Four.

What kind of game is this?!

Three.

Two.

One!

Now!

The fastest "first draw"
is faster than a fraction of a second.

Ultimately, the choice
the young man's body made

to be the fastest was not
to pull his hands out of his pockets,

but to leave his hands at the same height

and lower his body
in order to draw out his hands.

It is similar
to the body movement technique,

where the hilt is touching the floor,

and the sword is drawn
by twisting sideways

and stepping back.

The logics of the art of drawing a sword.

It was the greatest present
given to him that evening

from his son, Baki.

The upper jaw

and lower jaw...

...this secret technique
imitates crushing tiger jaws.

It's called Tiger King!

A magnificent achievement!

How can you let yourself get beaten
by such a classic fighting move like that?

You must be getting senile, Ogre.

But one thing's for certain.

You're a strong kid.

Incredibly strong, Baki.

Beneath his knee,

he could clearly feel his father's neck.

He could clearly feel his father's arm,

robbed of its freedom.

Well,
looks like I got the upper hand,

literally and figuratively!

Huh?

A feeling of achievement
that was larger than him.

And an excitement
that was as large as life.

He felt the impact of both!

Ugh.

Dumb Ogre, you were c*ck
to the point of being careless.

Baki's a monster with your powerful DNA.

Big mistake underestimating him.

You're as dumb as they come.

Well, well, well, Dad.
What are you thinking now?

I always wondered
what you'd do in this situation,

and this is exactly the kind of trick
I would expect you to pull.

That's what you wanna say,
right, Dad?

Come on, speak up.

Don't pull this sh*t on me, Dad!

I know there's no way
you're letting this end!

I'm not gonna let you f*ck' do this,

so get your sh*t together!

That's what the Yujiro Hanma
that I know would try to do, goddammit!

Baki, don't you push your luck.

Your old man's not that weak, you know.

Huh?

"O..."

"Okay..."

Now he's lifting

his right arm, and

lifting his arm up...

What's that supposed to mean?

Is he feeling confident?

He has to have some reason for doing it.

Is he agitated or confused?

I can't predict what he's gonna do.

I have him completely dominated.

What the hell does he think he's gonna do
by lifting his right arm?

Uh-oh.

- Watch out! The ground's cracking!
- Whoa! Look!

He punched into the street!

Right through the pavement!

With his arm!

He's not human!

Holy sh*t! He's so damn strong!

Nice one,
punching through the asphalt.

That's one hell of an idea.

If it hadn't been Yujiro Hanma,
it'd be impossible.

That's for sure.

That's absolutely for sure.

For Ogre,

his idea of the ground and asphalt
isn't the same as everyone else.

If you fight on top of gelatin,

pinning your opponent to the ground
isn't pinning at all.

I'm sorry, Dad.

That trick?

Really was the kind of trick
I'd pull myself.

But clearly you can see,

this fight,

I'm gonna win
even if it means pissing my own pants.

You sure, boss? Think about it...

It's been a while since it started.
Know what I mean?

Since what started?

I mean,

on the news and stuff they seem to be
making a pretty big deal about it.

You wanna watch
some family's father and son fight?

Well, uh...

I...

I do wanna watch!

Me too.

Well, what do ya think, everybody?

My dad's pretty awesome, huh?

He's so strong that even I,
Baki Hanma, pissed my pants.

You did good up to Tiger King.

But you cry so easily.
And wet yourself even easier.

Yeah, that's right.
That's exactly right.

I cry. Wet myself.

I deceive. And I play tricks.

You only realized that now?

I'll get the victory,

by whatever means necessary.

Even if I gotta cry.

Or piss myself.

Whether I've gotta deceive you.

Whether I've gotta trick you.

What was that?!

Some kind of a roll kick!

He countered it with the same thing!

Whoa!

- He landed!
- He wasn't hit?!

Damn good move, Dad.

Huh?

Real nice. That's good enough.

Wha...

What is that face? Is he proud?

I... I never knew he could look like that!

The genes that are dormant inside of you,

they're not gonna be awakened
by half-assed attempts.

So I'm prepared
to slap them into waking up.

Huh?

The Hanma blood... DNA...

It won't be long now.

He's gonna end it.

My son, Baki.

My life has been filled
with so much boredom until now.

- Whoa!
- Look at his back!

- It's a demon!
- The face of an Oni!

The person to give me
my first thrill in life

could naturally only be my own son.

He... he made his back weep.

Is he really... gonna do that?

Huh? Do what?

He's crazy!

Live well.

Huh?

Thank you
for a wonderful evening.

Huh?

Do as you're told! Make your father happy!

Hmm.

Whoa, can you believe this?

Who'd have thought an ancient chamber
of this size still existed?

Professor Chris,

what is this?

Hmm.

Well, at first look, `
it looks rather ominous.

It looks like a drawing
of some kind of demon.

What bothers me most is,

why is the drawing on the back?

From an anatomical perspective,
it's very exact.

The arms,

shoulders,

and from the waist to the feet.

But why on earth is only the back
like a demon's face?

What do you think, Professor?

Is this a kind of religious image?

This one is the same thing.

They're weapons.

Tips of various sizes.

They're weapons pointed at him.

Considering the variety
and number of them,

they represent an army.

And a vast one at that.

This is so amazing.

A display of incredible fighting power.

Mm-hmm. That's a heck of a lot
of weapons on him.

That's not exactly what this means.

It's saying that this devil
had such great fighting power

that this much weaponry had
to be readied to face it all at once.

That's for sure.

Oh no! My car's been totally destroyed!

You're gonna k*ll your son.

The utter destructive power

to strike a human

and also completely crush a large van
in the same punch.

It was a little late,

but Baki realized something.

"Yes, what I am fighting
is ultra-violence,

that frightens entire nations."

"Even if I gave it everything I've got,

there's no way I could defeat it."

Aah.

There it is.

I know this feeling.

This sweet numbness.

These endorphins.

It kind of itches.

Must be showing up on my back,

that tiny Oni demon...

That's right.

I did everything.

I gave it everything I had.

I squeezed out every last bit of energy.

I've had it.

I... think that's enough.

Huh?

You don't wanna continue?

I'm really proud

that I have a dad as strong as you are.

Hmm.

The question is, continue or let it go?

I know full well
my tricks don't work on you.

But to hear you ask if I wanna continue,

well, Dad, that's just so...

Dad?

I mean, for me, that's just... Huh?

Who's that?

Dad?

Yuichiro Hanma?

Are you lost or something?

- Huh?
- What is it?

- "Yuichiro Hanma?"
- Who's that?

Are... are you my grandpa?!

You haven't changed.

H... his shoulders are so broad.

I'm surprised and saddened

to find my child
struggling against one of his own.

Baki, my boy.

Uh... yes, sir?

You know you can beat him. If you want.

Baki can see him?

Huh? What do you mean?
Uh, Baki can see who?

He is able to see Yuichiro Hanma.

The man who defeated America
before Yujiro.

Huh? Both of them defeated America?

I'm sorry... I don't quite understand
what you're talking about.

He's Yuichiro Hanma.

Yujiro Hanma's... biological father.

It was the battle of Okinawa
during World w*r Two.

I'll never forget the date.
April 1st, 1945.

That's when the U.S. army started
its invasion of Okinawa.

The six months of hell that followed
was called the Battle of Okinawa.

Six bloody months
until the signing of the surrender

on September 7th in Kadena.

But the full truth isn't really known.

Twelve kilometers
off the northeastern shore

of the main island of Okinawa,

there's a puny solitary island,

less than a kilometer in circumference.

So small that it's not on any map.

Into that small afterthought of an island,

more than 1,000 tons of expl*sives
were launched in total against it.

Over 1,000 tons?!

That many expl*sives were used
against Japan's army?

It wasn't used against the Japanese Army.

And it wasn't used against the locals.

It was used against one single man,

Yuichiro Hanma.

Bombardment from naval g*ns on the ocean.

Aerial bombing from the sky above.

After so much bombing that even
the island's shape was changed.

the Americans landed.

The mission given to the soldiers was
simply to find the giant fighter's corpse.

Only briefly
did it feel like a Sunday picnic.

But then, standing behind them,

there was the Japanese man
they were meant to bring back as a corpse.

Dangling from his right hand

was the soldier who had been
pulling up the rear,

with his neck hanging at a funny angle.

Not so funny for him though.

The commander
of this operation,

Major General James, said this...

Even fighting
against that battleship Yamato,

we only suffered 12 casualties,

before it was sunk!

How the hell can we be disgraced
like that by a single monkey?!

The young officers
didn't dare say

what they wanted to tell their commander.

"Sorry, General, but that man's not like
any damn monkey I've ever seen."

This is not an issue of efficiency.

This is, an issue of our damned dignity!

The dignity of the Marine Corps!

Because the Japanese man
proved so unbeatable,

General James asked

Supreme Commander,
General Douglas MacArthur,

for permission to use the unthinkable.

An atom b*mb.

That's wrong! Ridiculous!

Thirty-eight days earlier,
Hirohito called over the radio.

He said that Japan was surrendering
and the w*r was finally coming to an end.

They'd never let James drop his b*mb.

Then that night, after the order
had been given to cease the operation,

that's when it all happened.

After hearing the sound of a loud impact,
what the marines on deck saw

was the corpse of Major General James,

his body thrust deep into the deck
of the very ship he commanded.

There was only one marine
on deck that night.

It was his misfortune
to be the only witness to the event.

While relaxing on the deck
with a cigarette,

he was shocked by a massive crash.

When the soldier turned around,

he was able to see something very clearly.

It was the face of a demon

who was just about to calmly walk away.

It was the face of a fiercely brutal Oni!

It was a sudden and grisly end
to the operation's commander.

Amazing, considering the great deck
of the battleship Iowa

was 233 millimeters thick.

Apparently, the crew members
were deeply frightened

at what they saw.

What kind of power was used
to throw the General down like that?!

Had it been some kind
of new technique or weapon?

No, it was an Oni!

A monster they had never heard of before.

And he hadn't left.

While the 2,000 crewmen
had assembled on deck

to witness the awful fate
of their General,

the Oni had been hiding himself,
lying in wait.

Then on the deck of that battleship,
Yuichiro used a very mysterious technique.

Mind you, I personally didn't see it.
But still,

the fact remains that every single one
of the men aboard that ship

plunged themselves into the ocean,
hoping to escape him.

Clearly, they realized
how dreadful that Oni truly was.

Within only a few minutes,

every crew member
of the great battleship Iowa,

the pride of the USA, abandoned ship.

Is it really any wonder, then,

that they say he was
the first one to defeat America?

But... what technique did he actually use?

The special technique,
the one that he had used,

it is called "Dress."

Damn, he disappeared.

Seeing that face once again made me
remember something I'd forgotten.

Dad's best technique, called "Dress."
