KATHRYN EISMAN:
We are what we wear.
Or is it that
we wear what we are?
I'm Kathryn Eisman,
and ever since I
was a young girl,
I've had this ability to read
a person's true character
just by looking at
the clothes they're wearing.
WOMAN: I've let myself go.
I wear trackie pants for work
'cause no-one's
going to look at me.
Everyone thinks I'm so happy,
and deep down, I am so
insecure.
This group of people,
whom I've never met,
are taking part in
a unique social experience
to ultimately find out
if changing our clothes
truly can change our lives.
(CHEERING)
Look at you!
Oh, my goodness!
Hi. I'm Kathryn.
- What's your name?
- I'm Steph.
Steph, would you like to
have a reading?
Yes, please. I'd love to.
Hi.
I'm looking at your clothing...
..and I see this
wishy-washy top.
It's like an actual shadow,
the speckled grey,
which always indicates a sense
of neither here nor there.
And then the oversize,
kind of fact that
you're trying to not be seen.
And I see you've put yourself,
literally,
into the shadow
of your own life.
You're in a holding pattern.
And...
Can I see the top of that?
So, some nice mum jeans. Yeah.
The fact that
you've chosen mum jeans
makes me think that
in your head,
your whole identity is 'mum'.
Are you a mum?
- Yeah?
- Yeah.
(SNORTS) Sorry.
- Snorting.
- (LAUGHTER)
So, you're Mum -
that's who you are.
That's all you are
in your mind right now.
And it's a great title to have,
but we're also more than that.
You're a person
before you became a mum.
And I think maybe you might
have forgotten who that person
was.
Exactly. Yes.
So you've got the cool
Converse. Love them.
I think anyone
who wears those shoes,
they have a childlike energy
to them and a playfulness.
Did you own them before
you became a mum?
Yeah. 10 years.
Ten years? Yeah.
So that's a little bit of
the old you,
the bit of you
that's still there.
And the rest has been consumed
by other little people.
And let me guess, are your kids
better dressed than you are?
Amazing dressed.
Big JoJo bows,
and hot pink pants
and just amazing dresses.
Sometimes we transfer the
things that we want for
ourselves
or the parts of ourselves
that we loved,
and we don't think
we're worthy of them anymore.
Because having kids,
it's a lot -
it's also a lot, physically,
to go through.
Yes.
So, I had two kids
in the last five years,
and I've gone from a size 8
to a size 14.
My whole shape has changed.
I still wear maternity bras,
pregnancy bras,
just whatever's comfortable
and whatever fits.
SO many of us,
when we don't feel that
we're the weight we want to be,
we don't dress ourselves
the way we want to.
We're waiting to get back to
this past version of ourselves,
and THEN we'll dress
like we were.
THEN we'll become
who we were again.
And so you waste
these great times,
the happiest times,
because you feel bad
about yourself
rather than soaking it all in.
So, what would you like from
this transformation,
this journey?
I want to fail
and look beautiful
and have that confidence.
And I want to raise
strong, powerful women
who don't doubt how they look.
And right now,
I worry I'm not
good enough to do that,
because of how
I'm viewing myself.
(SNIFFLES)
(WHISPERS) Sorry.
Sometimes my kids
miss out on things,
like, they want to
go to the beach,
but there's no way
I'm going to the beach,
because I don't want
people to see me,
at the beach, in my swimmers,
because...
I'm just... I'm not confident.
I want to be a good role model.
I don't want them to overhear
me saying to my husband,
"Oh, I'm not going to wear
this. It makes my legs look
fat."
I don't want to do that
at home anymore.
Would you dare speak to your
kid
and say,
"You look fat in those pants?"
Oh, my gosh, no.
Absolutely no way.
Like, she can put
a plastic bag on,
and she's the most beautiful
thing in the world.
(LAUGHTER)
So that, what you just said,
that exact voice
that I heard then,
that's the voice you're going
to be speaking to yourself.
You've got to love yourself
as you are now,
which is the best version
so far.
Yeah, that's what I want.
I want to be
the best version of myself.
Are you ready to stop waiting?
Yes. Yes, I am.
- Let's do it.
- (APPLAUSE)
Right away, it was like
she could see me.
I want Kathryn to make me
feel confident again.
Gosh...
Help me get back a little bit
of that spark that I've lost.
Good morning, sweetheart!
It's time to wake up!
Alright, let's go.
What are we going to wear
today? What do you want to
wear?
Oh.
This one?
You love that one, do you?
Yeah.
When people ask me who I am,
the first thing
that always comes to mind
is I'm a mum.
And my girls are my world.
And what shoes
are you going to wear today?
My daughter Parker
is four years old.
- Rainbow.
- Rainbow ones. Alright.
And we've got your socks
and we've got
your gorgeous rainbow shoes.
You ready to get dressed?
OK, let's go.
And my youngest daughter,
Murphy,
she's just
the happiest little thing.
Do you want to say
good morning to your sister.
- Good morning, sis!
- (LAUGHS)
I spend a lot of time getting
my girls ready in the morning.
Good morning.
I like little kids being in
beautiful, bright, bold
colours.
By the time it comes to
getting myself dressed,
I chuck on whatever I can find.
My biggest difficulty,
when it comes to shopping,
is time.
I have my two
beautiful daughters
and I have a full-time job,
so I just
don't seem to have the time
to actually go
and do shopping for myself.
I love clothes
that are on-trend,
but I'm just
never confident enough
to actually buy the stuff
and then wear it.
So my insecurities do keep me
from going out with my friends,
and sometimes even having
a date night with my husband.
KATHRYN: Steph is suffering
from what I would call
identity displacement dressing,
and basically
all the care and time that
she once put into
dressing herself,
she's putting it into her kids.
And in some ways, it's healthy,
but it's stopping Steph
from not only enjoying herself
and feeling confident
in her own skin,
it's actually preventing her
from enjoying time with family.
So we need to change that.
Here we have some...
Hang on a second.
(LAUGHS)
Oh, yeah.
- OK, I'm noticing...
- There's a trend there.
Not only are they all
the exact same linen top,
but they all have tags on them.
- Yeah.
- When did you buy these?
About two weeks ago.
- What do they look like on?
- I don't know.
I haven't tried them on.
So they arrived
a couple of weeks ago,
and you still haven't
tried them on? Why not?
I'm worried they're
going to look bad.
So you hang them in your closet
and you're scared.
OK, we'll get you
trying them on.
- OK.
- What about this?
So these ones are great,
but I'm not confident enough
to wear those colours out.
Sometimes when we don't feel
positive about our body,
we stay away from anything
that makes us feel like
we might stand out,
lest we get attention.
So you go to the greys,
the darker shades.
Yeah.
It's part of you
hiding and waiting.
You've got to love yourself
as you are now.
Which is the best version
so far.
Yeah.
You were telling me
on the day of the reading
that you were taking yourself
out of life
and missing out on
enjoying these moments
with your little kids.
That was around going to
the beach, swimming, right?
Oh, yes.
This is the bathing suit.
You did not feel confident
going to the beach.
No.
It looks like it has shape
when you hold it up,
even though it ticks every box,
in terms of it being
typically flattering -
it's a dark colour
and it has the ruching,
which is one of
the old fashion tricks
to hide any kind of
lumps and bumps.
But the problem is
is that when you
put on a swimsuit like this,
even though technically
it's flattering,
it's not about being confident.
It's not about you
owning your shape,
and you feeling good
in your own skin.
It just says,
"I don't like how I look
"and I'm trying to hide it."
Yeah.
Rather than the swimsuit
that's about hiding your shape,
let's just go with something
that makes you feel fabulous.
And it's about
owning what we have.
And then from that place,
the confidence comes.
Yeah. That's not me anymore.
It needs to go.
- This is so many bad memories.
- It does.
And hiding and waiting.
That needs to go. See you
later.
So even though they are
incredibly comfortable,
your identity isn't just mum.
Yes.
And wearing something that is
associated with nursing
children
that are
no longer breastfeeding,
that is not aligned with that.
We need to get you
back into some lingerie,
remind you of the woman that
got pregnant in the first
place.
Steph, I've got a fashion reset
for you.
For seven days,
I want you to dress yourself
with the same sense of pride
as you would dress
your little girls.
You don't have to put yourself
in a tutu or be ballerinas,
but that same
sense of care and love
that you put into
their clothing,
I want you to put it into
your own clothing.
And only spend a few minutes,
because it's about making you
more present, not more absent.
If you want to know
who you want to be,
look for the clues
in your own wardrobe.
Usually it's a piece of
clothing
that you bought
in a fit of optimism
that you thought, one day,
I'll become that person.
I'm here to tell you that
it is time to rip off the tag.
The day that you were hoping
for is today.
It's time for you
to put on the clothes
and become that person.
MAN: Hey, my man.
How's it going, man?
Long time no see.
(MEN SPEAK INDISTINCTLY)
- You ready for today, man?
- Yeah. Let's do.
My basketball career
has been impeccable.
I've been the underdog
my whole life.
- Let's do it.
- Man, let's go.
But I've been able to
fight through
and give the game
a good 14 years as a pro.
Back in the States,
I played in the NBA.
When I got to Australia,
I got to play pro in Brisbane
and here in Sydney.
Now I want to transform
from a basketball player
to a businessman.
But I need
a little bit of guidance.
Hi. I'm Kathryn.
What's your name?
My name is Cory.
Cory, I'm so happy
to see you here.
Would you like to
have a reading?
You'll have to tell me twice.
(LAUGHS)
I like it already. I like it.
Alright, Cory.
And you can think I'm a genius
because I'm getting
really, really strong
basketball vibes from you.
(LAUGHTER)
I mean, I...
I'm so gifted in this area.
- What gave it up?
- (LAUGHTER)
I see you as someone
who is very much a star,
like, shining bright.
That is your identity.
That is the very core
of who you think you are.
And even brighter than
those giant diamond studs
in your earrings,
which is really saying a lot.
I think you're very comfortable
being out of your comfort zone.
I think you like it.
I think you seek it.
I think it makes you feel
alive.
What I see when I look at you
is that you've
almost always felt
you have got something to prove
and that you will prove it.
And I feel that you are
a hard worker
and very motivated, very
high standards for yourself.
Yes.
I watched the NBA.
I was just like,
"That's me. That's me."
And I'm gonna do anything
it took to get there.
Obviously, you have just
so much basketball gear on.
These shoes, I'm obsessed with.
You've got to put these on
with your outfit.
This is... I mean,
how good would that look?
That ensemble would be
on-point.
(LAUGHTER)
Where do you feel stuck?
Where's the block?
I feel stuck on
transitioning to, like,
the business side of things.
And so I want to build what I
call my sourcing skills
academy.
What I want to do is
bring all the kids,
not just for basketball, but
for mentorship too, as well.
So, giving them
the knowledge and the skills
that you cannot learn in
school,
to help them have a great life.
Where I come from,
you're a stereotype.
When you look like me,
you're not smart,
you're...
You're either a sports person
or you're going to be dead
or in jail.
And so I want to
walk into that room
and not look like,
"Oh, you're a sports guy.
"You're not knowledgeable.
"Just go back
on the basketball court."
I understand -
you don't walk around
reinforcing
a false, negative stereotype.
Exactly. Yes.
I'm not so down with
the basketball lingo.
Of course. Ask whatever.
What's, like, the best goal...
like, sh**t, you would sh**t.
It would be like a...
What I am known for
is called a k*ller crossover.
So k*ller crossover
is my go-to move.
Let's cross over!
Let's do a k*ller crossover.
- That's k*ller crossover.
- Alright, let's do it.
Let's do it.
(APPLAUSE)
What I want
out of this transformation
is I want to be somebody
that brings a presence.
Now that I'm
a retired basketball player,
I want to be somebody
that means business.
I've been mentoring kids
for over 10 years now.
I've had a lot of mentors
growing up,
and so I wanted to give
the next generation
an opportunity that I had.
It's a small business that I
was kind of doing on the side,
but now I definitely want to
take it up another level,
transitioning a small business
to a big business.
I'm connecting and networking
with many different people.
But setting up potential
business meetings with
investors
frightens me a little bit.
93% of my wardrobe
is basketball attire.
With the wardrobe that I have,
I feel like
it wouldn't be impressive.
I want people to see that
I mean business.
I'm coming in here to conquer
everything I put my mind to.
Cory is a classic example
of what I would call
'uniform dressing',
and it's limiting
his self-perception,
that he's more than that,
but it's also inhibiting
his real goal.
What he wants to become
is a businessman,
and he can't truly see himself
in that context
and the world can't
see him in that context
until he changes his clothing.
- Cory...
- (BOTH LAUGH)
We're in the wardrobe.
Where are the clothes?
What's on this side?
This is my girl.
She has 98% of the room.
And so as long as she's happy,
I'm happy.
When I met you in the reading,
you've got so much flair,
and I expected for you to have
a lot of clothes.
I'm not very materialistic.
I'm looking at your shoes.
And there's... there are
basketball sneakers, of course.
Let's have a look at them.
This is my casual,
going out, like, to dinner.
Maybe I might wear that
with my suit too, as well.
With your suit, even...?
Even the kicks with the suit?
I saw LeBron do it one time,
and I'm just like,
OK, that's the new trend.
This is one of my one of
my hooping and playing shoes.
I wear my basketball shoes,
like, constantly,
until I'm Fred Flintstone.
Until my feet are on the
ground.
Coming out the front?
Yeah, until my feet
are on the ground.
And my Jordans there, you know,
I never had when I was younger.
So when you look at this,
that symbolises so much more
than a pair of sneakers.
Definitely. Definitely.
They symbolise where I came
from to where I had to grow,
to where I'm at right now,
and to where the future
is going to take me.
How old were you when you put
on
your first pair
of basketball trainers?
I would say three years old,
because I started basketball...
But my first game
was when I was seven.
So you, at about
six, seven years old,
you figured out that basketball
shoes and your identity,
that's what you
were going to be.
CORY: That's it.
But you're not just
a basketballer, are you?
There's more to you.
And sometimes a thing that
protects us and keeps us going
can also make us feel really
restricted as well, you know?
Yeah. That's why I need this.
I need this to where
I could show other people
that I can transform
and not just be
one-dimensional.
Yeah.
Do you have to do
a capital raise?
Do you have to take meetings?
Yep, yep, yep.
What are you going to wear?
I mean, because I'm
looking in here,
and what are you going to wear
for these meetings?
Um... I don't know.
You don't really have
any clothes?
Yeah.
So I'm going to do
some shopping for you,
and we're going to get you
ready
so that you can
kind of step into
the next version of yourself.
Cory's issue is that
he has nothing to wear.
He wants to be a power player
in the business world,
and he needs a power suit
to help him get there,
to give him the same
confidence and swagger
as he walks into that boardroom
as a pro basketballer
entering the court.
Clothes can make us feel
powerful, protected
and connected to our past.
But they can also make us feel
small and stuck or invisible.
By changing what you wear
today,
you can actually change
your future.
That is exactly
what we're about to do.
Hi. I'm Kathryn.
What's your name?
- Julie.
- Julie?
Would you like to
have a reading?
- Yes, please.
- Alright. Please join me.
So when I look at your outfit,
I see...
I see a lot of elasticity
in your clothing.
You know, you've got this
lovely elastic area here in the
torso,
and even your jeans,
they're like
a little bit of a secret
elasticized waistband to it.
And that says to me that
I think things have become
quite lax, in some ways,
in your life
and you have lost the structure
that might make you feel
more pulled together.
But there's these hints that
I see in your wardrobe -
the fact that
you're wearing this soft pink.
And when people wear pink,
it's about feeling pretty.
It's about feeling feminine,
and a desire to feel more of
those things in your own life.
Yes, but...
I don't know how you got it.
But you're spot-on.
Like, I'm been working from
home for nine months.
And, yeah, like, the slippers.
Just put the slippers on.
Socks on.
I'll wear T-shirts
and trackie pants for work
because no-one's going to
look at me, you know?
I've let myself go.
My hair, I let that go.
I used to do my nails.
I've let that go.
Everything's just sort of,
like...
gone, and I feel flat.
Yeah.
I've felt more enclosed.
I don't feel pretty. I don't.
I don't like myself.
When I look in the mirror, I
go,
"No, you're fat, you're ugly,
you're this, you're that."
And I'm trying not to say that,
but it's so hard.
So many of us have been forced
to isolate and stay home.
And it really takes
a very disciplined person
to not put on
a pair of elasticized pants,
because who is seeing us?
And society keeps us
accountable, to some extent.
Like, when you have to dress up
because you are seeing people.
But when we don't
have to do that,
it's like, what are we
looking forward to?
Who am I dressing up for?
What's the point of it all?
No wonder you can't be
bothered.
(LAUGHS)
I'm going back into the office
in a couple of weeks.
So, that will be a big change.
When was the last time
you had to go into the office?
Well, I started my job
nine months ago,
and it was all virtual.
I haven't been in the office
at all.
Have you ever met
your colleagues in this job?
Only online.
They're kind of meeting you
for the first time.
- Yeah.
- It's an opportunity for you.
It is, yeah.
So what would you like to
get out of this transformation?
To feel pretty again.
I want to be able to feel good,
inside and out, actually.
To have my younger self back.
Like, I used to be
joyful, happy.
I am now,
but some of it's pretending.
So I've gotten into a rut.
Oh, I'm going to
get you out of that rut.
I'm going to lift you
out of it.
Would you like to go on
this journey with me?
- I'd love to. Yep.
- Shall we do it?
(APPLAUSE)
My dream is to be able to
wake up and look at myself
in the mirror
and say, "Geez,
you're beautiful, Julie,"
and believe it.
I am a mum
of two beautiful boys.
They've both grown up now,
in their 20s.
Wills!
Puss, puss, puss!
I have four cats.
They're my life.
It's like you feel like
you don't want to
talk to human being,
but you can talk to an animal.
And that's how I feel.
Inside, I'm bubbly,
I'm happy-go-lucky,
I'm outgoing.
Good morning. This is Julie.
Where can I redirect your call?
I WAS a social butterfly.
I used to go out quite a lot.
But now,
since been working from home,
I've become a recluse.
I'm not Julie anymore.
I feel like
an imposter in my own body.
I want to change
how I look at myself.
How I feel when I stand
in front of that mirror.
I want to change the way
I walk down the street.
Like, I want to hold my head up
and say to myself,
"You look really good, Jules."
When I go into the office
for the first time very soon,
I want to dress for success.
I want people to look at me.
Why not?
And say, "Wow. She's got it."
KATHRYN: When you're
wearing elasticized clothing
all the time,
there's nothing
pushing you back in.
There's nothing giving you
structure to your life.
Without that structure,
you kind of fall apart.
- Can I have a look inside?
- Oh, go for it.
Yes, please.
And so if I want to give
more structure to Julie's life,
I want to give her more
structure first to her
clothing.
When was the last time
that you went out?
Because I'm noticing
you have, actually, a lot of...
- A long time ago.
- ..pretty dresses.
How long ago?
(SIGHS)
That long ago I can't remember.
Probably two years,
maybe longer.
And working at home
doesn't help either.
In the beginning, it's great.
You wake up...
- Yeah.
- You stay in your pyjamas.
It's great.
And if you're
maybe on a Zoom call,
you might change your top
if you're feeling fabulous.
- I didn't even do that.
- Didn't even do that.
Stayed in my pyjamas
on my meeting day yesterday.
So you've kind of given up
a little bit?
I've given up totally.
Not just...
I wouldn't say a little bit.
I've given up totally.
We're going to change that.
We're going to change that.
When you were younger,
what did you like to wear?
- Dresses.
- Yeah.
What is it about dresses
that you love?
Make me look feminine,
make me look sexy,
make me look like a woman
again.
I like the dressy,
feminine, sexy look.
Because you say that
you've kind of given up,
not even a zip or anything
you have to tie?
No, I don't, actually,
no, when you come to that.
'Cause you just
can't be bothered.
And I want to give you
the motivation
to be bothered.
So, Julie, I have
a fashion reset for you.
I want you, for seven days,
to get dressed
as if you were going out.
OK.
And that might be to work from
home as if you're in the
office,
but working from home.
And it might also be for you
to actually go outside,
even go for a walk in nature.
To experience what it is
to be out of this
reclusive bubble you're in
and in the world,
and dressed for it.
And I want you to start adding
some of these dresses,
but I want you to
flex the going-out muscle,
to get into the habit
of being dressed in the world.
Yeah, like I'm going into
the office every day,
or I'm going out for the night.
- 'Cause that's what's
happening for you soon, isn't
it? - Yeah, it is.
I haven't met anyone
face-to-face yet.
I want them to be shocked that
the Julie that they saw wearing
a pyjama top on a Zoom call
is the same amazing,
sexy, glamorous,
professional, together woman
that steps into that office.
Alright, so, that's
what we're going to do.
And no elasticized pants.
- Or skirts.
- Nothing. Nothing that...
If it stretches,
if it doubles in size
with your pressure,
it's a no.
None of that.
There's hope
hanging in Julie's wardrobe.
Amongst and beyond
all the elasticized pants,
there are these feminine,
flirty, frilly dresses
from a time long gone.
She's going to have to
take off her pyjamas.
And when she gets dressed as
the woman she wants to become,
you mark my words,
she will become that woman.
In Steph, I see
a woman who has so much heart,
so much love and passion
for her family.
But she's completely
forgotten herself.
So I'm going to
take her shopping
and I'm going to find
some sexy lingerie
that's also comfortable.
And we're going to
create a new version
of how she feels about herself
with the most intimate
item of clothing,
the one literally
closest to our skin,
and that's our underwear.
I want to give you something
that's just as comfortable
as a maternity bra,
but will give you
a bit more lift,
a bit of a better shape
under your clothing.
Yeah.
- So I thought...
- I do like this.
- It's cute.
- Isn't that cute?
Yeah.
The minute you add an
underwire,
it will immediately
give you a better shape,
and also create
a bit of definition
between the boob area
and the stomach.
Because in these, it kind of...
it all just blends together.
Exactly. And that's how I feel.
I just feel so... flat.
So let's get away from that.
I think this is something
you've got to try for sure.
Yes, I do love that.
Underwear is a really
interesting piece of clothing
because it's
the one item of apparel
that is not
for the world to see.
And at its core,
dressing and fashion
should be not to please others.
It should be to
express yourself,
to make you feel a certain way.
And so we can use it
to set the tone
for how we want to feel.
Let's try these on.
You've got a great selection.
Yeah, awesome.
- Let's head to dressing room.
- OK, great. I can't wait.
Last time I wore lingerie
was my wedding night.
Kathryn is absolutely right.
It starts underneath
everything.
- Are you ready?
- I am ready.
Woo!
Look at that giving
the confidence boost.
I love it.
I feel like it fits really
well.
- Look at me!
- Mama, welcome back.
Welcome back.
I can't stop
looking in the mirror.
I think we're going to
get you that one.
I do love it.
I think that it is time
for the waiting to end.
The weight you are right now,
the body you're in right now,
is the perfect one
to live life to the fullest in.
So forget what society says.
Stop waiting. Start living.
STEPH: Kathryn has asked me
to dress with as much pride
as when I dress my daughters.
- Hi!
- Hi.
We just got back
from the night-time market.
I wore my beautiful dress.
- Dress!
- (LAUGHS)
And I even got a compliment
from one of the stallholders
about how lovely the dress was.
Hey, Steph!
Hi, Kathryn.
This is one of your
linen shirts.
- It is.
- You took the tag off?
- I did.
- Victory.
What was that feeling like
for you?
It was good.
I look great in them.
Why didn't I wear them before?
What's the MOST
flattering thing?
It's actually just
what you feel good in,
and you can choose that
for yourself.
I think that's
where my biggest downfall was,
that I was so self-conscious
about the way I look.
But it's not because
OF the weight,
it's because I don't know
how to dress for
the body shape and size.
You can actually look great
at every size and weight
and stage in your life.
You just need to know
how to do that.
How did you go with the reset?
So, the first few days,
I did really well.
Unfortunately, then I got
a little bit unwell.
- Oh, you got sick?
- Yes.
So I did have
a little bit of a setback.
However, I then had a wedding,
so I had to go out
and buy a new dress.
I felt really good.
I did my nails, I put makeup
on.
I wore a beautiful dress.
And I just felt so good.
Like, so great.
I'm so proud of you for taking
the steps you have already.
I have something that
I'm really excited to show you.
- So follow me.
- I'm excited too!
A transformation would do me,
my family, my kids
the world of good.
This rack here,
these are your clothes.
And these aren't just
your clothes.
This is the new you.
They're beautiful.
Everything is so beautiful!
And I love how much colour
there is as well.
The colour is amazing.
Oh, Kathryn!
I love them.
I want to show you this
pretty pink dress.
Oh, my goodness.
- What do you think?
- It's so adorable, isn't it?
- It's so adorable.
- It's so cute!
When was the last time
you used the word 'adorable'
to describe yourself?
It's a really great question.
I... I don't think I ever have.
And how about your girls?
How often do you use that word
to describe them?
Every day.
Every day, they're adorable.
And that was your fashion
reset,
was to dress yourself with
the same love and care
that you put into
your gorgeous little girls.
And so this dress is
something that speaks to that.
It's gorgeous.
Pink is my favourite colour.
- That's a hit.
- Yes, I do love that.
That's gorgeous.
- I have a swimsuit for you.
- OK.
I think one of the great things
that we're having,
through social media,
is that we're seeing more
people that are not size 8
rock a bikini, rock a swimsuit,
and look amazing
because they have one quality.
- And what is that?
- Confidence.
- Confidence.
- Confidence.
I do love it.
It's sexy, it's cheeky.
It's definitely not hiding.
You better buy a lot of
suncream
because the kids are going
to be at the beach a lot.
- Yeah.
- We're going to keep this.
So, I've got
one more surprise for you.
And it's in that
green dressing room.
- Steph...
- Yes.
- It's time to get dressed.
- OK. Thank you.
I think when I started
this transformation,
I absolutely wanted to
make it to the end of it.
I'd lost myself to motherhood.
I was no longer
Steph, an individual.
I was Steph, the mum.
I am so ready
and willing to change.
Steph, come
and check yourself out.
It looks so pretty.
Have a look in the mirror.
Oh, my Gosh!
I look like a princess.
It's beautiful.
Look at my hair!
When I came
into this experience,
I was a bit of
a shell of my old self.
I love this contemporary
sleeve,
because it's very much
of the moment,
and it connects to the fact
that
you, from now on,
will live in the moment.
I've transformed
not only the way I look,
but the way I am internally,
and I've got
my self identity back.
I have more confidence.
I do.
I can't wait to go home
and show my kids
and show my husband.
This is going to change my life
in a major, major way.
KATHRYN: Steph's confidence
has gone through the roof.
She looks in the mirror
and she sees herself again.
It's been a long time
since we've been to the beach,
hasn't it?
KATHRYN: Feeling beautiful
isn't related to the number
that's attached
to the back of your clothing.
Let's go.
Where are we going to go?
Feeling beautiful
is about liking yourself.
Beauty is really confidence,
and you can get it
through clothing.
It feels really good
to be at the beach today,
especially with Parker.
You going to dangle your feet?
Ready?
The water's coming,
the water's coming!
Seeing her happy and playing...
..I regret losing two years
to how I thought I looked,
or how I viewed myself
and not being confident enough.
No! What happened?
(BOTH LAUGH)
People don't really care
what you look like.
Like, as long as YOU feel good,
that's really all that matters.
Parker!
It's been a good journey.
And today,
I wasn't scared or nervous
to put on my swimsuit.
Yeah, I'm... I'm happy.
Cory!
What's going on, Kathryn?
- Oh, my goodness.
- Welcome.
- Good to see you.
- I'm so happy to see you.
- Hey, loving the hair.
- Thank you.
Cory dressed
a basketball player,
whether he was
playing basketball
or going out at night,
weekend, weekday.
But in life, sometimes when you
want to change your direction,
you need to change your
clothes.
You need a new wardrobe
that aligns with where you want
to go, not where you've been.
They're not just clothes.
It's a new you.
Did you select all these?
Yes, I did.
I love it. Oh!
- I want to show...
- OK.
So you're going into
a new arena.
So let's talk textures, OK?
You're a very fit guy.
- Thank you.
- Very, very physical.
And you've been wearing
really soft fabrics.
That's why you
probably live in a jersey.
You can move in it.
You can feel free.
I want to show you how to do
more elevated fabrics.
Look at the stretch on this.
Not only would that
look incredible on your body,
but you could layer that
with this on top.
Yes. Yep.
And suddenly you have an outfit
that has movement,
makes you feel free.
Like, I haven't wore
a turtle-neck
since I was eight years old.
- And so...
- Your mum would be happy.
That's what I'm saying.
And, you know, bringing this
into my adult life
is going to be good.
It's going to be a great
change.
And just to be looked at
in a different nature.
- Yeah.
- Yeah, that's good.
Now, behind that curtain,
in that dressing room,
I picked a special
surprise outfit for you
that I'm so excited
for you to see it.
Cory...
I love surprises.
Let's make it happen.
It's time to get dressed.
Right. Let's go.
Now that I'm
a retired basketball player,
I put my full throttle
to mentoring kids.
What I want out of this
is a new beginning.
I've achieved my dream,
and I want to achieve
another one.
- Are you ready, Kathryn?
- So ready.
- Oh!
- (LAUGHS)
You look unbelievable.
- Oh, wow.
- My goodness.
Oh, wow.
I want you to
have a good look in the mirror.
Soak it in. Enjoy it.
This is your moment.
Oh, man.
I'm lost for words.
I'm lost for words.
Like, it's my first time
owning a suit like this.
And I feel like
on top of the world.
I feel like someone
that's powerful,
someone that has a voice.
I feel like I was a new person,
but the same me. (LAUGHS)
Sometimes all you need
to dominate in a boardroom
is one power suit.
When you put it on,
you feel like the boss.
You're in charge
of your own destiny.
And so that's why
I chose a power suit for him
for his final outfit.
My reset from Kathryn
is to jump out of bed
and put something on
that I feel comfortable in,
but it is nice, and corporate
for when I'm working from home.
(PHONE RINGS)
Good morning.
You Are speaking with Julie.
Where can I redirect your call?
I've been doing
little things every day.
I'm starting to feel
I'm worth it.
I only have Zoom for meetings,
and I did have a nice top on
the other day,
and my boss said,
"Oh, you look nice."
So she did notice it, yeah.
I'm starting to
come out of my shell.
OK, I'll do that for you now.
You stay on the line for me,
please,
and have a lovely day.
Thank you. Bye-bye.
Look at you!
Look!
What a transformation already!
- Yeah.
- Have a seat.
I'm so happy,
I can't stop smiling.
Oh, that makes me so happy.
So you're not just EASING out,
you're LEAPING out
of the elasticized waist.
I think it was, like,
four years ago,
I last wore the dress.
The pretty Julie
has always been in there.
The sexy Julie
has always been in there.
She's come out again.
She's blossomed.
Julie, I've got something that
I'm so excited to show you.
- Come with me.
- Yes.
My blossoming flower.
All of these
beautiful clothes...
- Look at the colours.
- ..they are for you.
Get in there. Explore.
I've actually...
I've gone straight to this one.
That's my colour.
This makes me emotional,
just holding up a shirt
like this that's so elegant.
Fabrics like this,
this beautiful, silky satin
against our skin,
it's a sensual
and a very visceral way
of showing yourself self care.
It means...
It means the world to me
that...
..someone has done
something like this for me.
The whole... the wardrobe.
Julie, you have come so far,
and I'm so - not just proud,
but I'm really inspired by you.
You're running towards
your future self
and I'm really happy with that.
And so I want to give you
one more surprise look...
OK.
..to complete
the transformation.
Julie, it's time to get
dressed.
JULIE: I have been
ready and willing to change
for a long time.
I want Kathryn
to make me feel sexy,
to make me feel beautiful
again,
to make me feel feminine.
I really believe
she will do that for me.
Julie, it's transformation
time.
Wow.
You look absolutely amazing.
Come and have a look.
Oh, wow.
(LAUGHS)
I've never, ever
looked like this.
Ever.
Oh, my gosh.
I can't get
the smile off my face.
Oh, my goodness.
For once, I'm speechless.
Everything about me
is so different.
The old Julie's gone.
This is it. This is me.
I feel different.
I don't want to take it off.
Can't I wear it every day?
I look 20. (LAUGHS)
Julie, when I met you,
you were struggling
not only to get dressed,
but to leave your home.
When you look in the mirror
now, who do you see?
I see Julie,
but I see a young Julie.
A vibrant, beautiful,
sexy Julie.
And I really mean that.
I actually believe in that.
I can't wait for
everyone to see it.
(EXHALES) Butterflies.
I want you to look in the
mirror and not see flaws.
I want you to see someone
who has a flawless beauty.
- I don't see any flaws.
- Yes.
To tell you the truth.
I really don't.
So this dress,
while not for the office,
is for you going out at night
and feeling feminine,
and feeling sexy,
and feeling also
very elegant and elevated.
Self care,
looking after yourself,
thinking you deserve the best -
you can have that every day
through the act of
getting dressed.
This is the start
of a new life for Julie.
Ooh!
I've got so many ideas now,
and I want to step outside
the house so much.
I just want to show it off.
I just want to go,
"Hey, world, this is me."
I'm going back to work tomorrow
and I can't wait.
I know I've got it. (LAUGHS)
It's not just changed
the outside,
it's changed the inside.
If I hadn't
gone on this journey,
I'd still be stuck.
And I'm not anymore. I'm free.
KATHRYN: Julie's transformation
is absolutely mind-blowing.
Her life had been on hold
for a really long time
and she just pressed play.
My name is Christiane,
and I'm a mother
of three teenage girls.
My younger self
would look at me now
and say, "Daggy, frumpy."
I do believe I have
the foundations to feel sexy,
because I've felt it before.
Hi. I'm Kathryn.
What's your name?
- Christiane.
- Christiane.
Would you like to
have a reading?
Yeah.
Tell me a story.
