Malibu Horror Story (2023)

Post by bunniefuu »

[ominous music]

[music increasing gradually]

-[man] Matt?
-[Matt] Yeah?

[man] How much light
you got on that camera?

[Matt] I'm actually
wrapping up now. You?

[man] Yeah, I'm
pretty much done.

[woman] Yeah, so like, I'll
just introduce the cave.

[indistinct]

Let me just adjust
this really quick here.

Yeah, you got it.

-Give me a line.
-Okay,

uh, so we are here
in the cave...

Give me a second.

-Okay, one more time.
-Okay.

So we are here in the cave.

[woman] Perfect.

You ready?

[man] Yeah, uh,
what scene is it?

[woman] 27.

Alright, let's do this.

[woman] Sound speeds?

[man] Mark it.

Scene 27, take one, mark.

[man] And...

...action!

It's a little after midnight,
and we are here in the cave,

where we are about to begin
our first EVP session.

For this session, we will
be using a spirit box,

or as some like to
call it, a ghost box.

This particular device
uses a sweep setting

to scan the frequencies
of static or white noise,

allowing a spirit to
communicate with us

directly through this
device, live on the spot.

If a spirit gets close
to us during the session,

this device will light up,

signifying a change in the
electrical current around us,

alerting us that
we are not alone.

We've also set up a system of
motion-activated still cameras,

which we've placed in a
circle around our camp,

where we'll be performing
the EVP session.

[camera clicks]

Like so.

Aside from making contact
with the spirit through EVP,

we're hoping to capture
an image of it on camera,

if it decides to grace us with
its presence during the session.

Okay.

[man] We rolling?

[man 2] We are rolling.

[exhales]

[exhales]

The EMF meter is on.

Whenever you're ready, Ashley.

[lighter clicks]

[music continues, lightly]

[sighs]

Okay.

I want everyone to be
as still as possible,

and just clear your mind of any
negative thoughts or energy.

[inhales sharply]

[all exhale]

[device clicks,
then static starts]

[Ashley] Is there
anyone in here with us?

If so, please give us a sign.

[music increasing slowly]

Seven years ago, four
boys came up here

and were never heard from again.

Do you know what
happened to them?

[static continues]

We know you are here.

We have come to speak with you.

Use this spirit box to
communicate with us.

[static continues]

[intermission]

We know this land
was taken from you

and your people many years ago.

We come in peace,
only seeking answers.

[static grows lightly]

I... I think I'm
picking something up.

[ominous echoing]

Are you here with us now?

[static continues]

[music rumble]

-[ominous echoing]
-[music fades]

[static continues]

[deep rumble]

What the f*ck was that?

Did anybody see anything?

[suspenseful music]

[man 2] sh*t.

Thermal camera fell over.

When the tripod wings whistled,
there was... [indistinct]

Well, I think that's
enough of that for tonight.

-[Matt] Yep.
-Matt, check the recording on that

and see if it
picked up anything.

-[Matt] Well, that's weird.
-[man] What?

Hey, watch this.

It just kind of crashes.

[Ashley] What was that?

Looks like another one of
those interference glitches.

I've been having to power
it off before it fell.

Still got a full battery.

Oh, see that heat signature?

It's forming right behind you.

Yeah, that's creepy.

[man] You know what that is?

[Matt] What?

That...

...is progress, my friends.

-That's what that is.
-Ha, ha, ha, ha.

Okay, all right.

All right, guys. That
is a wrap on day two.

Uh, we got one more day
to lure this thing out,

so let's get some rest.

Got a big day tomorrow.

Or...

...uh...

-Shots? Shots?
-[all complain]

-Yes?
-No!

No?

One more shot. More, more, more.

-Just one more.
-Yes, yes, yes, ma'am.

-Okay. Yes, you can.
-I can't.

Yes, you can. You... you are
gonna be a team player right now

-and celebrate with us.
-Fine, one more.

-Thank you.
-If I'm taking one,

-then you need to take one.
-Peer pressure.

Okay, uh, cheers, guys.

Uh, paranormal files.

Night two. We're k*lling it.

-Did you touch? Did you touch?
-I touched.

-Yes, yes.
-Okay. Alright.

Okay, down the hatch.

-Okay, I'm good.
-Oh, it burns so good.

-N... Next one, next one.
-[Ashley] Oh, it burns so good.

-No, no, no, no, no.
-[woman] I'm done.

-No, no, no, no, no.
-[woman] Yeah. I got work to do.

-[woman] Uh, hey, Josh?
-[Josh] Mm-hm.

I finished the edit earlier,

and I kinda wanted
to get your opinion.

Yeah, sure.

[woman] Okay.

[gentle music]

[Matt] Go give that opinion.

[music ends]

-Hey, you going to bed?
-Yeah.

-Good night.
-[Josh] Good night.

Okay, so I basically have
everything finished up

until the scenes we just shot.

Um, it's still a little long,

so I think that there's some
room for us to trim the fat,

but I really tried to
make it as entertaining

and mysterious as possible.

You know, I really wanted to

tell the whole story
up until this point,

but the... the ending
is still a little rough,

but that's just
because of my own...

Jess...

I'm sure it's great.

-Okay. Okay.
-You can just play it.

Do you need anything
before we start?

Uh, yeah, how
about some popcorn,

large Diet Coke, red vines?

[mocking] You're so funny.

[Josh] Just play the
video. [chuckles]

Ready?

-I'm... I'm sorry.
-I'm ready.

Okay.

-[waves crashing]
-[soft music]

[Josh] Malibu, California.

An idyllic seaside community
known all over the world.

On a typical sunny day in June,

the high school class of

and their futures looked
brighter than ever.

[cheering, clapping]

Nobody imagined that evening
would be the backdrop

to a series of events

that would shake this
community to its core.

The unexplained disappearance
of four local teenagers

would spark a massive
search across the region,

eventually leading
investigators to the

secluded Malibu Canyon property
belonging to the family

of one of the missing
teens, Jake Torrance.

There, the footage
from a video camera

found at the scene would provide
authorities with many clues,

but sadly failed to reveal

what ultimately became
of the missing teens.

Within three months'
time, the case went cold.

Now, after more
than seven years,

we managed to obtain
an official copy

of the memory card
found in Jake's camera,

and have assembled the footage
in the exact timeline of events

that occurred leading up to
their mysterious disappearance.

[music continues]

Our research uncovered a
dark and violent history

to the land where the
teens were last seen,

and careful analysis of the
footage has revealed evidence

of a paranormal entity present

amongst the teens the
night they went missing.

Over the next hour, our team
will reexamine the entire case,

uncovering new facts
and information

surrounding the disappearance,

before retracing
the teenagers' steps

and attempting to make
contact with the entity

that we believe is responsible

for the teens'
mysterious disappearance.

This is a Malibu Horror Story.

[ominous music]

[music continues]

[music fades]

It's one of those stories you
cover that stays with you,

really haunts you
over the years.

I mean, the whole
case, the whole thing

was just so strange.

I think the thing that
stuck with me the most

was really just the
four kids themselves.

I mean, this was not your
typical missing person's case.

You had four very popular,
intelligent young men

with promising futures,
and they just disappeared.

[lively music]

And the search continues
here in the Southland

for the four missing high
school students from Malibu.

Take a look at these pictures.

This is Jake Torrance,
Carter Conley,

Tyler Clifford,
and Carlos Garcia.

They were last seen
getting into a white van

at the Saddle Peak
Lodge in Malibu.

Police are asking that
if anyone out there

has any information at all
about these four missing teens,

to please contact the 'Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Department.

[music fades]

[reporter] It's
been nearly a week

since the four boys
were reported missing.

And still, hope remains here in
Malibu for their safe return.

Now, in the meantime,
investigators are continuing

to sift through clues as to
where exactly the boys are

and what may have
happened to them.

I don't think they have any
clues or anything so far.

I know that the Sheriff...
uh, Department's

been working
really, really hard,

and I'm in constant contact
with them every day.

[girl] No one really
knows what happened.

They just...

...disappeared.

[girl 2] One minute
they're hanging out,

they're a big part of your life,

and you see them every day,

and then the next day,
they're just gone.

[boy] It just hit us like

a ton of bricks,
you know, when...

...you find out that your
friends are missing, you know?

[girl 3] I mean, I don't know. They
were... They were messing around.

They... they were
always pranksters.

-[girl 4] Carter, Carlos, Tyler.
-[girl 3] Yeah.

-They were awesome guys.
-They were just, like, the crew.

Like, you just knew them as...
They were, like, the brat pack.

-[girl 4] Yeah. I mean...
-[girl 3 chuckles]

Like, inseparable, all of them.

They were always together.

[Laura] You know,
so many people know

the families.

They know the kids
that are missing.

It's just been very,
very difficult.

We're just a small
seaside community.

I know we're known
all over the world,

but we're just
really a small town.

Everybody knows each other.

Nothing like this
has ever happened.

They just really just turned
this place upside down.

This place was
like a ghost town,

like, a week after it happened.

[suspenseful music]

[Josh] The entire community
had become involved.

Search and rescue
teams, along with

hundreds of local volunteers,

combed the mountain
roads and valleys,

but there was no sign
of the missing teens.

After a few weeks, the
search was called off,

and most people
stopped believing

that they would be found.

Over the next few
weeks, there really

was no new information

about the boys' whereabouts, but

the story of the
missing teens had become

one of the biggest stories,

the biggest headlines
in Southern California.

So I was already pretty
familiar with the case

when I was first
assigned to cover it.

We are live at
Malibu High School,

where a candlelight vigil has
been set up by the school.

These students here remembering,

possibly mourning the loss of
four of their fellow classmates.

It's been three weeks to the day

since those students
have been seen.

There's a lot of tears
here, a lot of concern,

but unfortunately,
not a lot of hope.

[Laura] As you can imagine,

it's been very traumatic
for the community.

There's been, um,

a lot of media coverage
because it's Malibu.

It's everywhere.

I mean, you turn on the news,

you know, it's...
it's talked about.

It's on... It's on Facebook.

I mean, there's a
hashtag on Twitter.

I mean, it's on Facebook,
it's on Twitter,

it's all over that crap, but...

...I mean, I've been trying
to call 'em every single day.

I'm hoping it's just
a hoax. I mean...

...what are the chances that
something's gonna happen to those kids?

All I can hope is that...

...they can come home
and that they're okay.

[Josh] Just as everyone had
started to give up hope,

there was a huge break in the
case the following morning.

Police arrived on the
scene early this morning

after a local resident reported
that was parked at the end

of this secluded dirt road
here in Malibu Canyon.

Authorities say the resident,
who lives less than a mile away,

was out searching
for his lost dog

when he stumbled upon
the abandoned vehicle.

Coincidentally, the
property behind me,

which spans over 1,400 acres,

is actually owned by the family

of one of the missing
teens, Jake Torrance.

Moments ago, Mr. and
Mrs. Torrance

arrived here on the scene

to help assist authorities

with the search of the property.

[man] At approximately

our Malibu/Lost Hills
station received

a call from a resident

informing us of
the van's location.

Now, the gentleman
stated he'd seen

the news reports
on the missing boys

and he believed
that he had found

the vehicle we were looking for.

We're continuing with
the investigation,

but at this time...

...can't confirm that

this is the van the boys rented.

We'll keep you updated
on any late-breaking

developments as they occur.

[lively music]

[Rick] Six hours into
the latest search

involving the four missing
teenagers from Malibu,

and authorities believe
that they have found

new evidence in the case.

[man] So far, we've found
some hiking supplies

that belong to the boys,
as well as a video camera,

but no sign of the
boys themselves.

Sheriff, any idea where
the boys might be?

No, but we're still
hoping to find something

on that camera that'll help
point us in the right direction.

Tonight, authorities are
hoping that the contents

of a video camera
found at the scene

will help provide an explanation

to the mysterious
disappearance of the four teens

reported missing
back on June 19th.

[suspenseful music]

[Josh] A memory card
found in Jake's camera

contained everything
Jake had filmed

in the 24 hours leading
up to their disappearance,

but ended abruptly without
offering any concrete answers.

The area surrounding
their camp was searched,

including a nearby cave,

but no other traces of
the boys were found,

and the case remained a mystery.

A few weeks later,
authorities stated

that based on a lack of leads,

the case would remain open,

but the act of investigation

was being called off.

The mood in the
community was somber,

and sympathy poured
out to the families,

but once authorities
screened the footage

for family members and
friends of the missing,

everything changed.

Investigators had only commented

on the parts of the
video that were directly

related to the investigation,

so no one in the
community was prepared

for what they saw in the
first part of the tape.

The footage begins
innocently enough.

Shortly after their high
school graduation ceremony,

Jake was having a
party at his house

for the entire graduating class.

Jake Torrance had plans
to become a filmmaker,

and had just
received a brand new

professional camera
for his birthday.

The company that
Jake's father owned

sponsored a rave in
'Los Angeles that night,

so as a birthday present,
he organized party buses

to transport the newly-minted
graduates in true VIP fashion.

Let's get this party started!

[all cheering]

[Jake] Alright, hey,
everybody grab a glass!

Everybody grab a glass!

-Alright. You guys got one?
-[all] Yeah!

Yeah! Okay, I
wanna make a toast.

I wanna make a toast.

Here is to an epic night
that we will remember

for the rest of our lives!

[all cheering]

Let's get f*ck' wasted!

[upbeat, electronic music]

[music continues]

[music continues]

[cheering]

Hey, wait, wait... we're

-See this?
-[Tyler] One, two, three, that's it.

[Jake] Twe... 21, right there.

[music continues]

[music fades]

You want a hot dog?
You want a nacho?

-You want nacho? Okay.
-[indistinct]

[Jake] Cheers, cheers.
Good birthday, boys.

-[Tyler] Happy birthday, bro.
-[Carter] Happy birthday.

-Happy birthday, motha...
-If we all live long enough

to enjoy it.

Class of 2012!

[indistinct]

Feeling good.

[both cheering]

Hey, Jake!

-[Jake] Yeah?
-Hey, foo!

-Hey, Jake!
-[Jake] What?

-[Jake] Hey...
-It's your birthday!

-[Jake] I know!
-[Carlos] Woo!

[chuckles]

From Malibu, California!

[continues indistinctly]

[Carlos talking indistinctly]

I don't... I don't
feel so good, man.

[Carter] Dude!
-[Carlos] You alright, man?

-Let's go.
-[Carter] That's disgusting.

[Josh] When this
footage was screened

for members of the community,

people were shocked
and caught off guard

by the content.

The narrative surrounding
the case instantly changed

from the tragic disappearance
of four all-American boys

to the sex and drug-fueled
escapades of Malibu's youth.

Sympathy for the missing teens

was replaced with disgust
for their actions,

with much of the blame
and anger being directed

towards the parents,

especially the Torrance family,

for supporting that
kind of behavior.

Under increased scrutiny,

the Torrance family left Malibu

and moved to
Northern California.

After that, talks
of the missing teens

slowly faded in the community.

It's sad, because
that tape did more

to hinder the investigation
than it ever did to help it.

People were so excited
when it was found,

but it turned out
to be the thing

that made people stop caring.

After that, people
just either forgot,

or they just didn't care that
these boys had never been found.

[Josh] But there was
more on that camera

than just the parties and drugs.

And our team has discovered

evidence of paranormal activity

that we believe is directly
related to the disappearance.

[music fades]

The tape resumes
the next morning,

just as the teens
depart on their trip.

[Tyler] Did you guys
eat anything yet?

[Jake] No, man. Let's
get some breakfast.

Let's do Saddle Peak.

-[Carlos] Hell yeah.
-[Tyler] Sounds good.

Dude, I'm full. I've been
eating p*ssy all night.

[chuckling]

[Jake] There she is.

It's the Saddle Peak
Lodge. We're gonna...

...get some brunch, get
rid of these hangovers.

So many alcohol.

[Carlos] Come on, Carter!

[Josh] Until Jake's
video camera was found,

this was the last place that
the boys had ever been seen.

When investigators interviewed
family members and friends,

nobody had a clue as to
where the boys were going,

as Jake kept their
destination a secret

and wanted it to be a surprise.

Thanks to the footage,
we now know that

Jake and the boys made
the 45-minute drive

from the Saddle Peak Lodge

out to the Torrance family's

vacant Malibu Canyon property.

Hey, that gate looks locked.

Is this it?

[Jake] Yeah.

Yeah, this is it.

-f*ck.
-[Carlos] Hey, is it cool if we're up here?

I mean, that sh*t
says no trespassing.

[Jake] Yeah, yeah, it's
cool. We can come up here.

I mean, it's my
family's property.

I just... I'd probably get it
if my grandparents passed away.

Nobody really comes up
here anymore, you know?

Come on, Tyler.

Come on, Tyler. Use that...
Use that hippie strength.

-[chuckling]
-[Carter] No dice.

-The f*ck?
-[Jake] Nah.

f*ck. g*dd*mn it.

[Tyler] Seriously?

[Jake] Yeah, seriously.

So you got the key for it?

[Jake] No.

No key.

-So what's the plan?
-[Jake] Uh, looks like we're hiking it.

[Carter] Where?

[Jake] To the
campsite at the top.

Of that mountain?

[Jake] It's not like we've got
to cut down trees and sh*t.

There's gonna be like
trails and stuff. It's...

Really cool views, actually.

Probably more fun
this way anyway.

-[Tyler] More fun?
-[Carter] What the f*ck?

[Jake] Come on, man. It's
not gonna be that bad.

It'll be a couple
hours. I'll be there.

What are we gonna
do about the van?

[Jake] Let's just park it here.

Nobody really comes
up here anymore.

sh*t's gonna be fine.

[smacks lips]

Come on, let's go.

Hey, Tyler, make sure
everything's locked up, will you?

-Everybody ready?
-Let's do this!

[Jake] All right, let's move.

[voice distorting] Oh, sh*t.
Running low on batteries.

Hey, did you bring more?

[Jake] Yeah, I'm
gonna put one in now.

This is where the boys
began what we estimate

to be a six-hour hike
into the mountains.

This massive estate
spans 1,422 acres

and is bordered by
nearly 13 square miles

of national forest.

For thousands of years,
these lands along the coast

were used as hunting
and fishing grounds

by the Native American
tribes in the region.

This particular area of land

held great spiritual
significance

for the local shaman.

It was used as both a place

for performing sacred rituals,

and as a mass burial
ground for their people.

In 1902, the local tribes were
driven out by wealth and greed

when much of the area
was forcibly annexed

from them under the Dawes Act

and sold to white settlers.

William J. Torrance,
a wealthy businessman

and the great-great-grandfather
of Jake,

purchased this large estate
just before he passed in 1904.

The land has remained in the
Torrance family ever since.

-[Jake] Come on. It's over here.
-[Carlos] Yo, what is it?

[Jake] I don't... I don't know.
It's kinda hard to explain.

It's like, uh...

It's a thing. Just come here.

-[Carlos] Oh, sh...
-Hurry up.

[Carlos] Hey, watch
out through here, dude.

[Jake] Oh. Yeah.

Dude, dude, dude, dude, dude.

[Carter] This is
actually kinda cool.

Look at this sh*t.
This is f*cking weird.

[Carlos] What the
f*ck is that sh...?

[Tyler] Look at those markings.

[Carlos] Hey, who's buried here?

[Jake] I don't know, man.

Looks like they were buried
here a long time ago, though.

[Carlos] Why the f*ck are you
stepping on this sh*t, dude?

[Jake] Don't step on
that grave, it's...

-[Tyler] Is that bad luck?
-[Jake] Yeah, I think it's rude.

[Tyler] Dude, check it out.

[Carter] There's more?

[Tyler] You ever seen that?

[Carlos] Nah, that's some
ancient sh*t, though.

[Tyler chuckling] What do
you know about ancient sh*t?

[Carlos] I don't know.
I'm... I'm guessing.

[Tyler] Your mom's
some ancient sh*t.

[Carlos] ...we go again.
With the mom thing.

[Jake] That one's
small. Looks like a

little kid or something.

[Tyler] Holy sh*t.

Jake.

Hey, come check this out.

-[screams]
-[Jake] Oh, sh*t.

-Oh, f*ck. sh*t!
-[Tyler and Carter laughing]

Dude, I almost dropped
the f*cking camera.

Gotcha, b*tch.

[Jake] That was not
funny. f*ck you.

You scream like a little
b*tch, dude. You should've

-seen your face.
-Did you see his face?

-[Jake] All right, shut up.
-Did we get you?

Yeah, I almost dropped
the f*cking camera.

[Carlos] How deep
is that sh*t, dude?

[Jake] f*ck me, though.

[Tyler] Deep enough
for you. Push him in.

Push him in.

[Matt] Burial
locations like this

are reserved for chiefs, shaman,

and the tribe's most
decorated warriors

so that their
spirits could easily

reconnect back to this realm.

What's that down there?

[Jake] What?

Down there.

[Jake] Where?

[Tyler] What is
it? Is that a cave?

-[Carter] Cave?
-[Carlos] I don't know.

-[chuckling]
-[Jake] Come on.

[Tyler] Hurry the f*ck up.

Come on.

[Carter] It was hard as
f*ck getting down that

steep-a*s hill.

[groans]

What?

f*ck me.

-[Carter] Ugh!
-It is a cave.

[Ashley] These caves were
scattered up the coast

and primarily used
as ritual sites

by the local shaman,

but mostly forgotten about

until being rediscovered
in the 1970s.

They were labeled
historical landmarks,

yet this one is not registered
and does not appear on any maps.

In fact, this cave
doesn't even appear

on any of the
county land records.

-[Carter] Holy f*ck.
-[Tyler] This is...

f*cking cool, man.

You didn't tell me
your grandparents

had a cave on their land.

Yeah, they used to tell me
about it when I was little,

but I've never seen it before.

-[Carlos] Holy sh*t.
-[Carter] That's sweet.

[Jake] I didn't know it was
that close to the campsite.

These look just like the
markings from the rock graves.

[Jake] sh*t, they do.

[Tyler] Look at that.

-Strange, right?
-[Carlos] What the f*ck?

Hey, I wouldn't go in
there if I were you.

It's fine.

That camera got a light on it?

[Jake] Uh, yeah. Hold on.

[Tyler] Dude.

[Jake] I guess there's
a bunch of caves

and rock structures like
this all the way up the coast

as far as, like, Santa Barbara.

Caves were where the
shamans would hang out.

You would come and
you would visit them

if you wanted to go
on a vision quest.

They considered large
rocks and caves like these

to be portals to
the sacred realm

where they could tap
into the supernatural.

[Carter] What the
hell's a vision quest?

Well, you see, the
shamans would smoke this

really b*mb sh*t
called Jimson weed,

which is like a super
potent hallucinogenic weed.

They got them really f*cked up,

like, to the point
where they would

receive visions from
the spirit world.

-[Jake] sh*t.
-[Carter] You gotta have your cousin

-get us some of that.
-Uh!

Fat ounce.

Okay, oh, see. Check it out.

They would paint on
the walls and ceiling

using a mixture of
minerals and animal blood

-[Carlos] Damn.
-to describe the visions

they were having
during the quest.

-[Jake chuckling] Crazy.
-[Carter] That's pretty cool.

[Tyler] Yeah, this
is f*cking cool.

Hey, Carlos.

Come in here and check it out.

f*ck you guys. I'm
good, dude. I'll...

I'll check it on the video
later on or something.

[Tyler] p*ssy.

There's some pretty trippy
sh*t happening here.

Another name for Jimson weed

is the devil's weed or
the devil's trumpet.

Some say that when the shamans
would open these portals

to these sacred realms,

it allowed evil spirits
with supernatural powers

to cross over and
bring a horrible death

to all those who encountered it.

Like skin-walkers,

who had the ability

to steal the skin
and absorb themselves

-[shouting] into the human body.
-[Carter screams]

-[Carter] f*ck you, you as*h*le.
-[Tyler laughing]

f*ck this noise.
I'm out of here.

[Jake] Come on, man.

Damn, you really pissed him off.

[Tyler] p*ssy.

-[Jake] Alright. Yeah. We should, uh...
-It's kinda cool.

We should probably get
up to the campsite.

Got a lot of sh*t to set
up and burn daylight.

All right. But,
promise me one thing.

-[Jake] Yeah, what's that?
-We're smoking a fat

joint in here on the way
back through tomorrow.

[Jake chuckles] Deal.

Okay. f*ck yeah.

So, can we camp in here?

[Jake] Uh, hell no, dude.

This place freaks me out.

[Ashley] The spiral
and wheel shapes

were commonly used as indicators

to doorways or portals
to other worlds.

Because of the size of this cave

and the naturally occurring
energy vortex here,

this cave would be considered

one of the most powerful
and sacred sites

in the entire region.

In rare places like this,

shamans believed that one
could travel back and forth

between the realms of
the living and the dead,

and that spirits
from the other side

could be called into our world.

Occasionally, when these
gateways were opened,

unwanted spirits
could cross over.

Usually, they were
just harmless entities.

But sometimes, an evil
or malevolent spirit

would cross over into our world,

terrorizing all
who encountered it.

[Jake] Almost there.
Can you feel it?

-No?
-No, I can't feel it.

[Carter] I can't feel my feet.

[Carlos] I can't feel nothing.

[Jake] Right... It's right here.

You said that like
three hours ago.

[Jake] Yeah, but
this time I mean it.

It's right here.

This is it.

-[Carter] Touchdown.
-[Jake] We made it.

We're home. It's peak!

[shouting]

-It's beautiful, huh?
-[Tyler] Yeah!

This is f*cking awesome.

Beautiful. God-damn.

-Oh, my God, man.
-Look at this sh*t.

You know, I know I... I bitched
a lot, but this is worth it.

[Jake] All right, guys,
we got like 45 minutes

till the sun do... goes
down, so we gotta...

we gotta make camp.

[Josh] At an elevation of nearly

beautiful overlook

offers a panoramic view

of the entire Malibu Coast.

It would've been a
very significant place

for the natives who
once called this home.

But sadly, we have uncovered
disturbing evidence

of a gruesome event that
seemed to have taken place here

just over a century ago.

While digging
through the archives,

I came across a very old
newspaper article from 1903

that claimed several
members of a small tribe

that had been relocated

were mysteriously
unaccounted for,

and foul play was suspected.

Suspicions arose after
a journal was found

on the body of a dead man who
worked for William J. Torrance

that described the
brutal execution

of more than 20
Native Americans.

They then proceeded
to burn the bodies

and bury the remains
in a nearby cave

to cover up any
trace of the murders.

[Tyler] Jake, I think
I see a deer down here.

[Jake] Hold on!

Hey, where's that r*fle at?

Well, I think it's over
there near Ty's tent.

[Tyler] Hurry up!

[Jake] Where are you?

[Tyler] I'm down here!

Man, this tent is f*cked.

Are you serious right now?

Yeah, for real.

Hey, you know what? Let's
just take a break, dude.

I'm tired of this
bullshit-a*s hike.

I'm down.

Oh, f*ck.

Some white people sh*t, bro.

I know. Ty made it look so easy.

Oh, just what I needed.

Oh.

Man, you know what, now?

What are you doing?

Hell, yeah, you know.

[rattling]

I know this guy gotta have some
snacks in here or some sh*t.

Wait, wait, wait.

Ew.

Bingo, m*therf*cker!

Dude, those look nasty.

-[coughs] Holy sh*t.
-Oh...

-Smell that sh*t.
-Ugh, that's disgusting.

Dude, what kind of
muffins are these?

-f*cking rotten.
-What the hell would Ty

-pack rotten muffins?
-Maybe he left it in his bag

from the last time
he went camping.

-[sighs] f*ck it.
-I wouldn't touch those

if I were you.

They don't smell that bad, bro.

-Here.
-Oh, you must be hungry.

-[mumbles unintelligibly]
-Wow, are you serious?

-[moans]
-Disgusting. How'd they taste?

-Good. [mumbles] ...one?
-I'm good.

-Come on, try it.
-I'm good, dude.

How the hell did you
f*ck this up so bad?

I don't know, dude. I
followed the instructions

that came with it.

[Jake] Yo, 'Los, you alright?

Hey, guys, check him out.

[thud]

Oh, come on.

[Carlos] Is it hot out here?

[Tyler] Dude, you're drenched.

[Jake] You okay, man?

[panting]

I'm not feeling too good.

[suspenseful music]

Just had this...

...overwhelming
warmness come over me.

You... You guys ever feel that?

I mean, it is kind of hot out.
If that's what you're implying.

[Tyler] It's probably the beer.

He's been pounding
that sh*t all day.

-[Carlos vomiting]
-What the f*ck?

-[Carter] f*ck.
-[Jake] Oh, sh*t.

Damn, dude, I told your a*s
not to eat those muffins.

-They were rotten.
-Muffins?

Yeah, he had some
muffins out of your bag.

-My muffins?
-[Jake] Oh, sh*t.

f*cking sh*t. How
many did he eat?

Oh, I don't know.
How many, 'Los?

[panting]

-Did you eat one?
-[Carter] Hell no, those things

-smell like sh*t.
-Did you?

[Jake] No, I... I thought we
were saving those for tonight.

Why the f*ck would
we save those?

'Cause they're slam-packed,
full of shrooms, man.

We were all going
to trip tonight.

We didn't know that.

Ugh!

-[Jake] Whatever man.
-I packed six,

so he must ate three.

[suspenseful music]

sh*t. He's f*cked.

That's enough psilocybin to
send him on an overnight flight.

-[Jake] What should we do?
-I don't know. Maybe it's good

that he's puking,
get it all out.

No, once that gets
into your system

and it breaks down,
it becomes psilocybin.

That's the point of no return.

[Carlos panting]

How long ago did he eat them?

I don't know, probably like

He's so f*cked.

[Jake] Ty, it's okay.

It's really not okay.

Dude, you all right?
You get it all out?

f*ck, what are we gonna do?

[Jake] Look, let's just...

let's just build a fire
before it gets too dark.

We can set him up in his
tent. It's gonna be fine.

Give him some water. Come on.

[Jake] Carter, give
him some of this.

Come on, dude. Get
up, get up, get up.

You're all right, you're
all right, you're all right.

-I got this.
-[Tyler] Stay the f*ck out of my backpack.

[Josh] As night
falls, the situation

continues to get worse.

The drugs have
fully taken effect,

and Carlos's
behavior can be seen

becoming more
erratic and volatile.

[Carlos screaming]

-[Tyler] 'Los! 'Los!
-[Carter] Carlos!

[Carlos] What the
f*ck is this sh*t?

-[Carter] Oh, God!
-[Tyler] Where are you going?

-Hey, hey, hey, hey!
-Oh, sh*t. Oh, sh*t.

-[Carter] Ow!
-[Tyler] You okay?

What the f*ck is that sh*t, man?

[Tyler] What are
you talking about?

[Carlos] You guys see that sh*t?

[Tyler] What is what?

[Jake] What are you
talking about, 'Los?

What the f*ck?

-[Jake] You see anything?
-[Carter] See what?

[Jake] Let's just
go back to the camp.

[Tyler] There's
nothing there, man.

-There's f*ck...
-[tape scratching]

[Josh] Investigators didn't
think that this footage

was of much significance in
solving the overall case.

But Paranormal Files has made

a startling discovery
that changes everything.

After careful examination,

it seems there actually
was something in the trees,

as Carlos had stated.

Several frames of what
appears to be an apparition

were captured by Jake's camera

as he was panning
to the treetops,

just when Carlos was
beginning to hallucinate.

Had Carlos actually made contact

with something from
the spirit world?

[Carlos vomiting]

Is my lip busted?

[Jake] Yeah, a little bit.

It's not that bad.

-[Carter] I just blew something.
-[sigh]

[Jake] Hey, is he
gonna be all right?

f*ck him.

Yo, he needs help.

Can we call someone,

like a park ranger
or a rescue team,

like a helicopter's out here?

[Jake] I told you, we lost
reception when we hit the mountain.

-f*ck.
-Guys, he'll be fine.

He just needs to sleep it off.

-[Carlos] ...get back.
-[Carter] Whoa, whoa.

-[Tyler] f*ck, dude.
-[Jake] What?

Let's get back to
the van and get

-the hell out of here.
-[Tyler] 'Los.

I'm telling you. [panting]

Something's out in those trees.

[Tyler] No, 'Los,
'Los, 'Los, 'Los.

There's... There's
nothing in the trees.

You just ate some mushrooms

and you thought you
saw something. It...

It's all just a
hallucination, okay?

-It's fine. It's fine.
-f*ck, dude.

-I know what I saw.
-[Jake] 'Los.

Something's out there.

-[Jake] It's fine, man.
-What's happened to me?

[Carter] Guys, he
sounds pretty serious.

Let's just go back to the van
and come back some other time.

[Jake] You remember
how far we came today?

It is pitch black right now.

We would get lost if
we tried to hike back.

Dude, what the hell
are we supposed to do?

[Jake] Eh... he'll
be fine. We just...

He just needs to sleep it off.

Tyler was right.

-Hey, are you good, bro?
-[Jake] Where you going?

[Tyler] To go get more firewood.

-It'll be a long night.
-f*ck.

Carter, go with him.

This sh*t is crazy, dude.

[Jake] I'll babysit 'Los.

[Carlos sobbing]

[Jake sighs]

[Carlos] Let's get the
hell out of here, man.

[Jake] It's... It's
okay. It's okay.

It's okay. Just get some sleep.

-[Carlos sobbing]
-It's gonna be all right.

[static]

Oh, there's that light.

Oh, man.

This looks creepy.

[soft, ominous rumble]

What the hell is
'Los staring at?

[Tyler] Jake!

[Jake] Yeah?

Come here now.

[Jake] Uh... What is it?

[Tyler] I... I don't know.

J... We found something.

[Jake] Okay.

Um, 'Los, I've got
to go check this out.

-[Tyler] Hurry up!
-[static]

[Jake] Holy f*ck, that's a bone.

[Tyler] Yeah, no sh*t.

[Jake] Looks like a femur.

[Tyler] That's not all,
dude. Look over here.

Oh, sh*t.

[Jake] Oh, f*ck.

I think this is my grandparents.

[Carter] How?

[Tyler] Yeah, didn't you
guys have like a funeral

a couple summers
back or something?

[Jake] Uh, it... it
was a memorial service.

[Tyler] So then how could
it be your grandparents?

[Jake] They never
actually found the bodies.

What the f*ck are
you talking about,

found their bodies?

Didn't they die of old age?

[Jake] No, not actually.

About six years ago,
they went missing.

They didn't have a lot of
friends. They mostly just

kept to themselves up here.

My dad was their only
child, so there wasn't

that much of a search party.

You're being serious right now?

[Jake] Yeah. I mean,
investigators figured they just

had an encounter
with a wild animal

and didn't survive it.

-It's alright.
-[chuckles]

What the f*ck?

So you figured it would be
safe if we came up here.

This is some information
you should've told us

before you brought
us up here, dude.

[Jake] Look, I just... I
thought it'd be fun, okay?

-Fun.
-[Jake] I mean, since nobody came up here anymore,

we had the whole
mountain to ourselves.

This... This is f*cked up, okay?

What if whatever k*lled your
grandparents is still out here?

-It probably is.
-[Jake] Alright, we've got the r*fle.

-We're fine.
-f*ck the r*fle.

-[Jake] God...
-Do you see this sh*t?

It's not fun anymore.

[Jake] All right,
well, let's not panic.

Let's just... Let's
go back to camp.

We'll get some sleep,
then we'll hike back

first thing in the
morning, alright?

You're a f*cking as*h*le.

-[Jake] It's fine!
-That is a dead

f*cking body.

[suspenseful music]

Is it possible that the bones

did belong to
Jake's grandparents

or could they belong
to the Native Americans

that were buried here long ago?

Either way, Jake's
grandparents were mysteriously

reported missing on
the property in 2007.

Michael Torrance, the
couple's only child,

and the father of Jake,

called off the search
after only three days.

Soon after, authorities
declared the couple deceased.

They weren't the only
Torrance's to die

or go missing on the
property, either.

In 1904, an unexplained
fire on the property

destroyed most of the
original structures

and took the lives of Jake's
great-great-grandparents

just two years after
purchasing the land.

Was this just a coincidence?

Or has the Torrance
family been cursed

for stealing the land out from
under the Native Americans

who called this area home
for thousands of years?

[Carter] 'Los! Where
the hell could he be?

[Tyler] Maybe that f*ck
decided to hike back without us.

[Jake] Without his flashlight?

'Los!

Oh, sh*t, the r*fle.

Where the f*ck are you?
This sh*t isn't funny, dude.

[Tyler] I don't see sh*t.

f*ck. Really?

[all] Carlos!

[Jake] Anyone see him?

-Carlos!
-[Jake] Oh, sh*t, dude, be careful.

-[Tyler] Hey, watch out.
-[Carter] f*ck, dude.

-[Jake] You okay?
-[Carter] Yeah, I'm good.

This is crazy, guys.

[Tyler] 'Los!

Carlos!

Damn. I'm not going
down there, dude.

[Jake] Come on, we... we gotta check it out.
-[Carter] No, f*ck that.

[Tyler] Jake.
-[Jake] We have to. Come on.

-[Carter] Are you sure?
-[Jake] Yes, I'm sure.

-Come on.
-[static]

Come on.

[Tyler] 'Los?

[static]

[Jake] Carlos?

-[static]
-[Tyler] 'Los?

[Jake] Carlos, you in there?

[Tyler] Carlos?

[Carter] f*ck, it's dusty.

Can't see sh*t.

-[static]
-Carlos!

-[Carter] f*ck.
-[Jake] Damn it.

[Tyler] Where the f*ck is he?

This is f*cking...

'Los!

-[eerie screeching]
-Holy sh*t!

-[Jake] f*ck.
-[Carter] God damn it.

-[Tyler] f*ck me. Oh,
'Los, -[Jake] Oh, my God.

-You scared the sh*t out of me.
-[Carter] Jesus Christ.

[Tyler sighs] -'Los, come
on, stop playing. Let's go.

-[Jake] Carlos.
-[Tyler] Come on, dude.

[Jake] Where's your shirt?

[Carter] He's not moving.

[Jake] 'Los, come on. Le...
Let's go back to camp.

-[eerie chorus-like sound]
-[Tyler shushes]

Shut the f*ck up.

-[Carter] What the...
-Listen.

[Carter] What the f*ck is that?

[distant thud] -[Tyler]
What the f*ck is going on?

[Carter] What the f*ck was that?

-You see anything?
-[static]

Holy sh*t!

-[screaming]
-[screeching]

[Carter] Oh, my God.

[Tyler] What the
f*ck is happening?

-Look at 'Lo...
-[static]

This is where the footage ends.

Investigators thought
it was probable

that the boys were injured by

falling rocks in the cave,

and their bodies
were dragged away

and consumed by wild animals,

as mountain lions and coyotes

have been known
to roam the area.

But the truth is,

they didn't have a clue as
to what was really going on.

We've spent the
last several days

examining the footage
frame by frame,

searching for any other signs
of the spirit that Carlos saw.

We began by focusing on
any areas of the footage

where odd things or
behaviors were occurring.

One thing that stood out was the
amount of digital interference

when they first
entered the cave.

This is often an indicator
of a paranormal presence,

similar to what you would find
in white noise recordings.

As we examined the footage, we
spotted the apparition again,

but this time it was in the
cave directly above Carlos,

moments before the
cave began to crumble.

After running some tests to
determine it wasn't a fake,

we were convinced
that this entity

was directly related
to the disappearance.

We knew that if we could
find it and make contact,

we could confirm our theory

and learn the truth about
what really happened

to those missing boys.

The only thing left to
do was to go up there

and try to find
it for ourselves.

[suspenseful music]

We set up camp in the cave,

as this was the last
place the boys were

when the footage ended.

We spent the first night
doing a baseline sweep

of the entire cave,

looking for any
clues we could find,

but there was no sign
of the apparition,

and the cave was much
larger than we had imagined.

After several
hours of exploring,

we had still not seen it all.

We found and cataloged dozens
of various symbols and markings

left behind by the
Native Americans

who lived here long ago,

but many were strange
and unlike anything

we'd ever previously come
across in our research.

On day two, we were ready

to make our first
attempt at contact.

So, what'd you think?

It was... It was amazing.

The editing's fantastic.

You did... You did a great job.

But...

[chuckles]

I just hope this
isn't all for nothing.

What do you mean?

[soft eerie music]

Well, if we don't
find this thing,

then we don't have a show.

All we really have is something
that looks like an apparition,

and everybody's gonna
say we faked that.

I just...

...want to figure out what
happened to those boys.

You know, I... I
wanna solve the case.

Well, we still have another day.

There's something up here.

I know it. I can feel it.

We just have to find it.

[music continues]

I'm gonna hit the sack.

-Okay.
-I'll talk to you in the morning.

Yeah. Good night.

Good night. [sighs]

[sniffles]

[ominous music]

[music continues]

[tent unzipping]

[Jess whispering] Josh.

Josh.

Josh, come on, wake up.
You've got to see this.

-Matt, get up.
-[groans]

What is it?

[soft groan]

[sighs]

[groans]

Matt, come on.

[sighing] Oh, God.

[music continues softly]

Ashley, come on.

Matt.

-What is it?
-Just sit down.

You guys have to see this.

-Matt!
-[Matt] Oh, yeah.

[soft groan]

[Matt] This better be important.

It was the best sleep I've
had since we got here.

Okay.

[Jess sighs] Okay, so,

I was going through all the
raw files from the memory card,

and I found a bunch of
clips that it looks like

the investigators
discarded, which,

at first glance,
I could see why.

[music continues]

Yeah, so?

Well, then I checked
the files' metadata,

and I found the error logs,

which stated that the
files were corrupt.

But then I found the time codes,

and the time codes seemed
to be a continuation

of where the footage ended.

-No way.
-Did you run these files

through my repair software?

Yeah, it's just about finished.

Holy sh*t.

[music continues]

-[indistinct chatter]
-[thuds]

[Tyler] Oh, sh*t! Oh!

[growling]

What the f*ck was that?

Uh, it can't be real.

-Jess, play that back.
-Yeah.

[Tyler] Oh, sh*t! Oh!

[growling]

Step through that.

What the hell is happening?

[music continues]

[Josh] Holy sh*t.

That's Carlos.

[Ashley] Oh, my God.

It's inside him.

[Matt] What is it?

-Tyler was right.
-[Matt] What?

[stutters] It's a skin-walker.

But I... I thought those
could only possess animals.

[Ashley] Well, not always.
I... I mean, in rare cases,

they can possess people, too.

Jess, where's my research bag?

It's in the back.

Look.

[music continues]

Okay.

Rare and extremely dangerous,

these skin-walkers can
only be summoned upon

by the most powerful shaman.

When conjured, they can enter
the flesh of the willing

or a susceptible human host.

[Josh] The mushrooms.

It makes sense. Carlos
was the most susceptible.

[Ashley] Once it
enters the vessel,

it can change shape
and appearance,

channeling the essence of
a supreme malevolent entity

through one's body

to access its abilities
and individual traits,

which include the
strength of a bear,

the flight of a hawk,
and the trickster coyote,

which has been known to toy with
its victims before k*lling them.

sh*t.

[Ashley] It's like
a living conduit.

I can't believe this is real.

Alright, let's just keep
watching and see what happens.

Okay.

-Here it goes.
-[clicks keyboard]

[Tyler] Holy sh*t!

-[screaming]
-[Carter] Oh, my God!

[Tyler] What the
f*ck is happening?

Look at 'Los!

[Jake] Oh, sh*t! 'Los! 'Los!

'Los! 'Los! No! No!

[screaming, panting]

Go, go, go, go!

[panting]

What the f*ck is that?

-[eerie echo]
-Oh, my God!

No!

[panting]

[Carter] Oh, my God!

-[thud]
-[Jake] Carter!

-[Carter] Help!
-[Jake] Carter!

[indistinct screaming]

Carter!

[Jake shushing] -[Tyler] Cut
the light, cut the light.

[button clicks]

[rapid breathing]

This is f*cking
crazy. This is...

-What the f*ck... [stutters]
-[Jake sobbing]

What the f*ck was that?

[Carter's voice
echoing] Help! Help me!

-[Jake shushing]
-[Tyler] Carter?

f*ck. He's still alive.

[creaming at a distance]

[Jake] We gotta help him.

I'm not going out there.

Whatever that was, it's not

-from here, okay?
-[Jake panting]

Going back out there is
a f*cking death trap.

[Jake] Carter's gonna f*cking
die if we don't help him, dude.

Do you get that?

[both panting]

[Jake] f*ck this.

I'm gonna go get him.

[Tyler] g*dd*mn it. Jake!

[both breathing shakily]

[whispering] Carter?

[Tyler] Carter?

Alright, you see anything?

No.

[panting]

Carter?

[panting]

He can't be far.
He sounded close.

[echoing scream at a distance]

[screaming continues]

[Jake] He's gotta
be in the cave.

Carter?

[Tyler] Carter?

[Jake] Carter.

[Tyler] Oh, f*ck.

[Jake] Carter?

-What the f*ck?
-[deep eerie rumble]

-sh*t!
-This is insane.

What the f*ck am I watching?

[echoing eerie sounds]

[Jake and Tyler
screaming indistinctly]

[wet crushing]

[growling]

[loud scream]

[Tyler] Oh, my
God! What do I do?

[Jake] Go! Run! Run! Tyler, run!

-What the f*ck!
-[Tyler] Jake!

[Jake] What was that?

What was that?

[Tyler] Jake! Come on!

[Jake] Carter, no!

-[Tyler] Jake!
-[Jake] Go!

Tyler, run!

What the f*ck was that?
-[Tyler] Jake!

-Jake!
-Why did it take his heart?

It's his soul.

Look.

When it kills an enemy,
it devours their soul,

negating any afterlife
and preventing the spirit

from taking revenge.

[high-pitched static]

[Jake] f*ck! Tyler,
where are you?

[Tyler] No, no, no, no.

[Jake] Tyler, I need
your flashlight.

[Tyler] It's not
real. It's not real

[Jake] Tyler!

[Tyler] I dropped it back there.

I can't f*cking do this.

I can't see a f*cking thing.

I told you.

We never should
have come in here.

[Jake] Just give me a minute. I'm
changing the battery on my camera light.

I almost got it.

Let's see. It's right at us.

-Got it.
-[growling]

[Tyler] Oh, f*ck! Run!

-Run, Jake! Oh, my God!
-[Jake] Go!

[Tyler] What the
f*ck is this thing!

Run, Jake! Oh, my God!

[music increases, then halts]

[both panting]

[growling]

[both continue
panting, groaning]

[Jake] This isn't happening.

[Tyler] f*ck this.

This is some seriously
demonic sh*t.

We gotta get the
f*ck out of here.

-[high-pitched eerie rumble]
-[screaming]

[Jake] Tyler, Tyler!

[screams]

No, Tyler, say something!

Tyler! Tyler!

Please, say something.

[ominous music
increasing gradually]

What the f*ck is happening?

What's ha...

Tyler!

Tyler, say something!

[static]

[static]

Tyler!

[static]

[panting]

[music fades lightly]

-Tyler. Tyler.
-[growling]

'Lo... 'Los! 'Los!

-'Los, what are you doing?
-[growling]

Let's get out of here, 'Los.
Let's go, let's go! 'Los!

-'Los, what are you doing? No!
-[static]

No! 'Los!

-[eerie high-pitched scream]
-'Los!

'Los! 'Los!

-[static]
-[music increasing]

[music increases, then halts]

[panting]

What... Oh, f*ck, Tyler.

[static]

[Jake holds off vomit]

-'Los!
-[music increases abruptly]

[Jake panting]

[high-pitched eerie scream]

[Jake continues panting]

-[growling]
-Oh, sh*t.

[indistinct screaming]

[screaming continues]

I gotta get out!

-[growling]
-[Jake screams loudly]

[panting, sobbing]

[screaming loudly]

Help!

[panting]

[screams]

[continues panting]

Oh, my God.

Oh, my God. Oh, my
God. Oh, my God.

-[sobbing] No. No.
-[camera clicks with static]

f*ck.

[panting, sobbing]

-[music increases abruptly]
-[growling]

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. What...

-[growling]
-[screaming]

-[static]
-[Jake screaming indistinctly]

[camera clicking]

[growling]

[screaming continues]

[growling]

Oh, what happened?

[music fades]

[clicking keyboard]

I don't know. My computer's
frozen or something.

We gotta get out of here.

-[Josh] What?
-We thought we knew

what we were dealing with, but
this is something different.

Yeah, I mean, for
all we know, that

thing could still be out here.

Don't you get it?
It always has been.

I... It's like a guardian.

It's like a protector
of their sacred land.

[music restarts lightly]

It must have been
summoned by a shaman

as they were being
forced off their land.

You guys saw what
it did to Carlos.

But... no... none of
us took any drugs.

How could we get possessed?

We called out to it when
we tried to make contact.

We invited it in.

We are the flesh of the willing.

If it gets control
over one of us,

there's no telling what
it's gonna turn into next.

Oh, f*ck that.

-Who's got the keys to the Jeep?
-I do.

[Josh] Uh... Guys,
this sounds so crazy.

No, what's crazy is that
video we just watched

of a kid getting possessed
by an evil spirit

and ripping his
friend's hearts out.

Look, I say we get the f*ck
out of here, all right?

Let's grab the
laptop and come back

for the rest of the stuff
tomorrow with the cops.

We got what we need
for the show, man.

Yeah, I'm with Matt on this one.

With no cell reception,
we should at least

drive to the bottom
of the mountain

and... and call someone.

I'm gonna grab the laptop
and the hard drives.

[sighs]

Isn't there anything we
can do to send it back?

Only a shaman can
close the gateway.

So the only thing that we
need to focus on right now

is getting out of here
as fast as we can.

[music increasing]

[clicking]

-Guys?
-[Josh] What?

-[static]
-[Jake] Come on.

[sobbing]

Stop.

[distorted voice]

[screaming]

[wet crushing]

[screaming]

[screaming with static
and getting distorted]

[screaming echoes]

[music intensifies lightly]

[Jess] You guys
have to see this.

[scanner continues clicking]

Go grab the film roll.

[breathing heavily]

Did you see anything?

[Matt] No.

Oh, sh*t.

[eerie growling]

[Jess] sh*t.

Get away from the tent.

[high-pitched eerie growling]

[indistinct eerie whispering]

[Matt] sh*t.

[Matt] What do you

-Matt!
-Matt!

Matt, come back!

f*ck!

-What the f*ck!
-Why is this happening?

-[Josh] f*ck.
-[Jess] t's too dark.

Matt!

f*ck.

Ashley!

[Josh] Hey, hey, take this.

Okay, let's go.

-[Jess] Matt!
-[Josh] Ashley!

[music continues]

[music increasing gradually]

[panting]

Guys?

Matt?

Hello?

[distant, echoing growling]

Guys?

[music increases, then halts]

[soft echoing growling]

[music continues softly]

[whispering] Matt.

-[distant echoing thud]
-What was that?

I'm picking something
up on the thermal.

See?

[music intensifying]

Who is that?

[panting]

[Jess] Oh, my God,
I think it's Ashley.

It's Ashley.

Ashley! Oh, my
God, are you okay?

-[Jess] Which way do we go?
-[Josh] Uh...

Oh, take this. Um...

You guys go this way,
I'll go that way.

We'll cover more ground.

And if you find
him first, just...

-just yell out my name, okay?
-Okay.

-Go.
-Matt!

-[Josh] Matt!
-[Ashley] Matt!

[Josh] Matt, come on!

[music increases, then halts]

[music continues, softly]

a complete circle.

How is that possible?
