and I'm heading into
uncharted waters.

I'm taking on one of my biggest

real estate investment
projects ever.

It's a massive job.

Ohh my gosh!

The plan?

To resurrect and rebuild this

100 year-old lakeside resort

into a modern-day vacation destination.

That's the bathroom!

But the place is a wreck!

This is the worst.

(beeping warning sound)

So, I'm not doing it alone.

Scott: Bryan.

Bryan: Scott.

So what's the plan here?
There's a lot of work.

Scott: Yeah, it's gonna
be a big project, Bryan.

Bryan: Yeah, I don't
know how you tricked me

into this one,
but here I am.

Scott: Here you are.

This is the opportunity
of a lifetime.

Taking this old resort

and building all-new
rental cabins.

We're gonna need some help.

Bryan: I think we are
going to need some help.

Scott: So let's bring in
designer contractor teams.

Bryan: That compete
against each other.

Scott: And see if they
have what it takes.

Who can create the absolute
best vacation properties?

Bryan: You know,
it's going to take some

fresh ideas and
a lot of hard work.

I think a lot of people would
k*ll for this opportunity.

Scott: Yeah! We've
now got the worst cabins

on the best piece of land.

We will have to tear them down.

Dare I say--

Bryan/Scott: Together?

Bryan: So this is not a
competition between us?

Scott: No way. We're judging.

Bryan: Because that
just wouldn't be fair.

Scott: No! It would be
embarrassing for you.

I'd win.

Bryan: There's a first
time for everything, Scott.

Scott: Alright Bryan,
it's time to tear down

these dilapidated cabins,
so we can start from scratch.

Scott: It's a good day's work.

Bryan: Can you believe this
is only the beginning, Scott?

Scott: It'll be epic.
There's a lot at stake.

for the ultimate vacation rental

renovation competition.

Four pro builder-designer teams

from across North America

are leaving everything behind
to show us what they've got.

transform these four cabins,

inside and out, in only 7 weeks.

the best cabin

Scott: She's an innovative
interior designer

and he's a crafty carpenter,

and best buddies

Bryan: You seem very calm.

Jena: We're excited!
This is our time to shine.

Scott: She's an
ex-military reservist

turned designer-entrepreneur,

and he's a self-taught
techie and builder.

Arnold: Get me some tools!
April: (laughing)

who juggle a renovation business
with raising a family

Scott: This is the ultimate
renovation competition.

Behind you are four cabins

with identical layouts,

three bedrooms, two bathrooms,

a kitchen, living
and dining space,

a loft space,

tons of outdoor area
to work with

and a beautiful waterfront.

In seven short weeks from now,

we will be hitting
the peak rental season

and these cabins
need to be ready.

Bryan: Each week you'll
face a new challenge.

You'll be tasked with
renovating a new space,

and we will be the judges.

♪

Scott: We'll be joined by some
expert guest judges

along the way.

Now throughout the competition,
Bryan and I will be

checking in regularly to
evaluate your work.

For every space, we will have
the same judging criteria:

quality, creativity
and functionality.

Each team will have
an identical budget

of $100,000.

But it's up to you to allocate
where you spend that money.

Bryan: At the end
of the competition,

the team that creates
the best cabin

will not only have
the bragging rights

as the Renovation Resort champions...

Scott: But you will also
receive a game-changing prize--

Kyle: Alright!

Bryan: Teams,

the first space you'll
be tackling is--

the primary bedroom

and the main floor bathroom.

Scott: You only have one week to
complete this first challenge.

Savannah: Oh, my--

- Fantastic.
- Alright!

Scott: How you feel about that?
Kyle: Stressed.

Scott: Yeah?
All: (laughing)

Scott: Do you have some ideas
for the primary bedroom?

Rotem: I think so.

Bryan: You wanna share
some ideas with the group?

Rotem: No!
All: (laughing)

(laughter)

Bryan: Who do you think is
gonna have the first fight?

Kyle: I can tell you right now!
Scott: The married people!

All: (laughing)

Bryan: You've been given a box.
In that box is a key.

Scott: The number on your key

indicates the cabin
that you'll be working on.

Kyle: Ah, number one.

Scott: And you will notice
a fifth cabin at the end.

While you're working on the
four most important cabins,

Bryan and I are going to be
working on cabin 5

and the rest of the resort.

Is everybody ready?

All: Yes!
- Absolutely.

Scott: Alright, let's go!
Bryan: Go!

Scott: There you go!

Bryan: They're so excited!

Jena: Wow!

April: The view is beautiful!

Sean: Wow!

The views just keep
getting better and better.

Savannah: I'm just in awe.

Rotem: We got this!
(high-five slap)

Arnold: Let's go check out
the primary bedroom.

You gotta do something dramatic

when you first walk in. Have to.
April: Agreed.

My style is regal and luxurious,

creating spaces
that are beautiful,

but they're functional.

We could take down
some of the drywall,

and expose some of the wood.
Arnold: Okay.

April: I was in the
military for 21 years.

I retired as a reservist
earlier this year.

I started my design business
about five years ago

and we've been working
together for four years.

Arnold: Since this
is the primary,

it'd be nice to introduce,
like some simple tech here.

Maybe we do something cool--
April: What are you thinking?

Arnold:--with the TV,
April: Okay.

Arnold: Mount it
from the ceiling.

April: I love that.

So let's check
out this bathroom.
Arnold: Alright.

Instead of like an alcove tub,

we can do... a free-standing tub.

Arnold: Not the simple installation.

April: No, because
basic is boring, right?

Arnold: Alright.
I'm very excited

about doing something new.

April: I've never been in a
cabin and now I'm designing one.

Let's open this up a little bit.

I'd love to expose the long wall
to make it a feature.

Let's balance the darker colors
with some warm greys

in the bedding and the paint.

Then we'll add a touch of glam

with the bedside tables and
light fixtures.

We'll carry the luxury mood
over into the bathroom,

with a geometric pattern tile,

surrounding an elegant
freestanding bathtub.

Arnold: I think we got to start
by getting this wall down.

April: Well, you probably
want to get out the way.

(laughs)
Arnold: Probably should!

Troy:
Primary bedroom!

Rotem: So, I think we're going
to do some stucco on this wall.

I was born in Israel.

I moved to Canada when I was 12.

So, the Mediterranean vibe is
still very much alive in me

and in my designs.

I love using wood, stone,

a lot of natural elements.

Troy: Rotem and I
have been working together for

16 years now.

We design, build,

renovate.
Rotem: Decorate!

Troy: All while raising
two beautiful girls.

Rotem: I dream it, he builds it.

Troy: It's a great
partnership we have.

We fight a lot, but--
Rotem: (laughs) We don't!

Troy: What's going to
be our path to victory?

This one right here!

Her design is
going to stand out.

Rotem: In the primary bedroom,
we're going for a classic

Mediterranean-style
stucco feature wall

and all the furniture is going
to be wood-based.

Over in the bathroom,
we're installing

a herring-bone terracotta
tile floor.

Then I'm adding an archway
entrance to the shower space

and we're going to build a
custom floating vanity.

So the entrance to the shower
is going to be... one big arch.

Troy: It's not gonna be easy,
I can tell you that.

Rotem: Well, that's
why I got you for.

Troy: Okay.

Savannah: This bathroom,
I think that

if we have some gold touches...
Kyle: For the fixtures...

Kyle: ...and the door pulls...
Savannah: For the fixtures,

a really pretty,
romantic-feeling wallpaper.

Kyle and I have known each other
since high school.

Kyle: We are a married couple.

I own and operate a
general contracting company.

Savannah: And I have been
doing DIY and interior design

for the past twelve years.

We have four kids.

Kyle: Wheeee!

Savannah: Everything that
we do is for our kids.

So winning this competition
would be huge.

My style is colorful, whimsical,

classic and traditional with

a little bit of quirkiness.

This is our primary bedroom.

I think we're gonna do
some really great wallpaper.

Kyle: You love your
wallpaper, don't you?

Savannah: I do!
I do love my wallpaper.

For the primary bedroom,
we need to lose this closet

so I can add large wallpaper
panels with box trim.

Let's add a canopy bed and we'll
do a chandelier built right in.

Over in the bathroom,
let's be bold

with a racing tile effect
around the bathtub.

And because I love me
some wallpaper,

we're including a floral pattern
that will really look luxe,

with all the gold hardware
and fixtures.

Kyle: Gosh, you're so cute!
Savannah: So pretty!
It's gonna be so pretty!

Jena: Okay, primary bedroom.

Sean: Feature wall?

Jena: Could be cool
do the knee wall.

Sean: With some LED lighting.

Jena: We're gonna do
the LED lighting.

I've been in the interior
design field for 11 years now.

Sean: I'm originally from
Melbourne, Australia

and I'm a carpenter.

I've been working now
with Jena for four years.

Jena: Sean and I have always
worked really well together.

There's just ultimate trust

in each other's process.

Sean: Okay, bathroom?

Jena: Can we go dark and moody?
Sean: Absolutely!

Screaming for a niche
on that back wall.

Jena: Oh, absolutely! With...?

Sean: LED lighting!
Both: (laughter)

Design style-wise, we start
always from an area

of playful minimalism.

Playful minimalism is

a way to create a space
that feels warm,

where you can
literally just have fun.

Let's go like matte
black fixtures.

Sean: Okay.
Jena: This is a small space.

Nobody's going to go dark.

Let's take that risk.

In the primary bedroom, we are
going to be installing

light-colored hardwood flooring.

We can create texture and depth

by doing vertical wood slats
up the wall.

Then we're adding integrated
lighting around the room.

Over in the bathroom,
I want to continue

the modern feel with large,
dark tiles in the shower,

integrated LED lighting
in the shower niche,

black fixtures throughout,

and a custom floating vanity.

(power tool whirring)

Sean's gonna be doing a
lot of custom elements

and we're looking forward
to showing the judges

what we can do.

Scott: We just need enough wood
to get a bonfire going.

(chainsaw buzzing)

For many years, this place
was a fishing resort.

The idea of bringing this
property back to life

was to update it, so that
people could vacation

at these properties
and have the experiences

that were had here many,
many, many years ago.

Cut up some firewood,

so you can get
four equal quarters.

(whack!)

Booo!
Bryan: Ahhh!

Scott: Way off!

Pffttt! Are you taking the bark
off, or are you chopping it?

Bryan: I'm making toothpicks.
Scott: (laughs)

Don't lift anything too heavy.
I don't want you to get hurt.

Bryan: Well, I'm getting a
little older, my back.
Scott: I know.

Bryan: It's not
what it used to be.

Scott: That's... sad to see!

Bryan: Yeah.
Scott: The whole thing.

(whack!...whack!)

Bryan: Nice to have
a little bro time.

Scott: I know!

Bryan: I mean, not with you,
but, you know, in general.

Scott: That log is
a lot like life, Bryan.

No matter how hard you try,

you're always gonna have a
rough time getting through it.

Both: (laughing)

Rotem: All right, let's go.

(power saw buzzing)

In the bathroom, we're going to
do an archway into the shower.

Archways are timeless.

Troy: ♪ Done-done-done! ♪

Rotem: They're very welcoming.

Troy: So you want us to
build a 2-by-4 arch wall?

Rotem: Yeah?
Troy: Right up here, right?

But what do we have up here?

Rotem: A fan.
What happens to the fan?

Troy: We got a problem.

Rotem: Can we do
a 2-by-3 framing?

Troy: 2-by-3 wall...
Rotem: Yeah?

Troy: Two and-a-half inches.
Half-inch plywall.

We're at three inches, another
half-inch for the drywall.

The easiest solution would be
get rid of the arch.

Can we just cancel this thing?
Rotem: That is not
an option, Troy.

I need an arch.

be able to do the arch,

because there's

Troy: The easiest solution?
Get rid of the arch.

Rotem: No, this whole
design was based on this.

Troy: Well, we have
to find a solution.

Rotem: I think you
can just remove this.

Save yourself half an inch.

Troy: Yes, I know that, but--
Rotem: Just cut it with a knife

all the way and then the framing
comes butts up against this.

Troy: Boom! Problem solving.

That's why our marriage
is so healthy.

Right? Right, Ro?

These archways,
although difficult,

the payoff is enormous.

This is a test.
Rotem: Wow!

Yeah, that works.

Savannah: We're getting started
on the bathroom.

I'm very excited
about this space.

This is so pretty!!

When it comes to interior
design, I'm self-taught,

I absolutely love DIY

and I'm not afraid
to try anything.

Get plain old subway tile,

but then we put it in...
like a racing stripe around.

♪

Kyle: It's gonna look amazing.

♪

Scott: Let's teamwork this.

While the competitors are
working on their main floor bath

and their primary bedroom,

Bryan and I have
work to do on cabin 5.

Oh, we may have
to work together.

Bryan: Egh!

Oh, that digs deep!

Scott:
Working together is not easy,

but I didn't invite Bryan

So we're going to work
on some decorative trusses.

Plan here is to fill in
the gap above the windows.

And it'll match the portico.
We have some work to do.

Bryan:
I'd say we have a ton of work.

Jena: Lime wash is an
awesome style of paint,

that allows you to get a very
minimal texture on your walls,

which just softening
the mood of the space.

One thing I feel that a
competitive edge for us,

is that we, in ourselves
are diverse.

Sean is this Aussie boy
who ended up in Canada.

I'm a brown girl from Toronto.

I happen to be a Muslim,
I happen to be g*y, right?

Like we come from two
different worlds and somehow

we found a way to make it work
and work together and work well.

It's coming alive, my friend.

Sean:
Working with Jena is amazing.

She's such a caring,
kind, patient person.

She tolerates me for one,
so that says a lot.

We're very close,
even outside of work.

It's more like a
family business.

Jena: I'm curious where
two coats will get us,

I think we'll need a third.

Sean: Absolutely.
Jena: Yeah.

Scott: What's really interesting
about these vacation properties

is the branding.

You need to get people excited
with the online listing,

before they even get here.

And in order to do that,

most of these teams are going to
have to try things

that they've never
even done before.

But if you go too far
in one direction,

you can actually deter
people from the space.

Bryan: Like the limb breaks.
Scott: The limb breaks?!

Bryan: If you go out
too far on the limb--

Scott: This is what happens.
Bryan: The limb breaks.

Scott: Hello?!
Jena: I hear trouble!

Scott: Oh Jena, what are
you doing to the wall?

Jena: So it's a lime wash.

So what it is, it's
a texturized paint.

Bryan: It's wallpaper
without the paper.
Jena: But it's better.

Scott: What is your theme here?

Jena: The theme of our cabin
is playful minimalism.

Bryan: Now, how are you
gonna market that?

Jena: You're gonna look
at those photos and say,

'I want to be there
because I feel welcome',

and because there's
so many special elements

that have been thought of.

We always find a
creative, cheeky

'je ne sais quoi'
to add to the picture.

Bryan: 'Je ne sais quoi?'
That's how he describe him.

Scott: Oh, weird.

Jena: It leaves you
wanting more, no?

Scott: 'Cause I describe
you as a minimalist.

Jena: (laughs)

April: You want to do it?
Arnold: No!

April: Alright then.

Arnold:
April doesn't normally paint.

April: (chuckles)

Arnold: I am concerned
with her technique.

But, she's getting
paint on the wall.

That's a win for us.

Rotem: I'm getting started
on my stucco

feature wall in the bedroom.

I love texture, which is
why I'm going with this look.

First time I'm doing it,
so I'm a little bit nervous,

because it's very
important for our theme.

I fell in love with
this business, building.

I saw it with my dad growing up.

Troy: Her dad's a great
general contractor.

Rotem: He showed me
how to do the plumbing,

how to do the electrical.

I love getting my hands
dirty and I take pride in

bringing my kids onto the
sites to show our kids

that you go for things
and you try things

and you make things happen for
yourself and you can do it!

Savannah: So, to save
on wallpaper.

I want to do some box trim,
Kyle: Okay.

with the wallpaper inside
of it. Now we paste.

In the primary bedroom, I want
to add some natural elements

in there with birds and florals.

I knew the second
I saw this wallpaper

that I needed to have it.
The pattern just is special.

The birds, they remind
me a lot of my Nana.

My grandparents had hundreds
of birds in their backyard

and they were lovebirds,
and they always talked about

when you find your mate,
you're with them for life.

And so, this wallpaper
is definitely special.

Oh my gosh, this is so pretty!

Kyle: This is very pretty.
I gotta give it to you, babe.

Savannah: Thanks, love!

Scott: Hello?

Savannah: Hello!
Kyle: Over here.

We have visitors!
Bryan: Wallpaper!!

Kyle: We know how much
you guys love wallpaper.

Bryan: Oh my God!! Are
you a fan of the wallpaper?

Kyle: Not installing it, but the
overall effect it creates

Savannah: I know!
But, I love wallpaper.

My style is a very romantic vibe

and it has a little bit of
a rustic vibe to it as well.

Scott: When you're marketing
a property like this,

it's very different
than a primary residence.

It's even different
than a resale home.

Savannah: Right.
Scott: This is a short-term

vacation property that
people need to be

emotionally connected to
right away,

and then your design
has to deliver on that.

Bryan: I like the fact that

you're putting this in here...
Kyle: Yes.

Bryan: But it will take you
more time. You now have to

install the wall-paper,
you're doing the math,

and you gotta do the
trim work around it.

Savannah: Okay,
we need to hustle.

Scott: They got a
lot of work to do.
Bryan: They sure do.

Savannah: We don't
have time. We're behind.

Kyle: Okay, one piece, it's...
Savannah: We're behind.

Kyle: There's several pieces,
but they go together.

April:
I'm designing these spaces for

people who want to have
a nice luxurious getaway,

like a five star hotel, but
in a very scenic, rustic area.

Arnold: How's that
wall going over there?

April: Uh-- it's going.

I bet you I'll
be done before you.

Arnold: Nope, not a chance!

April: We're gonna
do a darker look

throughout the entire cabin.

I think it really ties
into the Lux Lodge theme

that we want
guests to experience.

When I was growing up,
I didn't see a lot of people

who looked like me,
who did things like this.

I'm a little girl from
the south side of Chicago.

Here I am, this black woman,
designing this cabin.

So I love the fact that
people get to see me,

doing something that maybe they
thought that they couldn't do.

I'm so proud of that.

Sean: Sink is... up and over.

Jena: That's fancy!

Scott: These properties need to
make a first impression

very quickly, through
the marketing material

upon first arrivals,

after checking in
on some of the cabins,

we've realized there's
something missing.

April: Tappin' here.
Jena: Who's there?!

Troy: Let me go check.

Scott: We're gonna up the ante
and give the team

something else to tackle.

Troy: Oh, boy.
Rotem: What's that?

You didn't think we're going
to let you off the hook

Scott: Well, if you think
you got a lot on your plate,

On top of doing the primary
bedroom and main floor bathroom,

we're adding in--

the inside front entry.

Contestants: Aaahhh!

Bryan: The front entrance
represents the first impression.

When a future guest walks in,
it has to be cohesive

with the rest of the design.

Scott: We will be evaluating
these front entries

along with the primary bedroom
and the main bathroom so,

timelines don't change.
Scope of work increases.

Bryan: I don't know about you,
but if I had that much

work to do, I wouldn't
still be standing here!

Savannah: Done!
- Let's go!

Jena: I don't know how this is
going to happen.

Like, no time!

Savannah: Entryway--

Kyle: This feels good,

but I think opening this up

would probably be a good idea.
Savannah: Would be a good choice

For this bonus build,

I'm painting the walls
a green color.

And I am choosing a
checkerboard pattern floor tile.

I want Kyle to do a custom bench
and he's gonna hate me for this,

but also some extra box molding.

I'm definitely feeling
overwhelmed with
(loud hammering)

the entryway now being
part of this challenge.

Arnold: It's a ton to do,
with all the tiling

in this bathroom.

April: But I see it as
an amazing opportunity.

Entryways are so important!

So we'll add a bold tile and a
contrasting throw rug.

And some simple modern furniture
and a standing mirror

to make this grand entrance
feel even grander.

Finally, Arnold will
top it all off

with the high-tech gallery wall.

Arnold: You have big plans
for that entryway.

It's a lot of work.
April: I have big plans
for this entire cabin,

so I hope you're ready.

Rotem: The closet. I am very
stressed about the bonus build.

What I have planned here,

is some very gorgeous tile.

I'm bringing in earthy tones,

by adding herring bone tile throughout

and wooden bench with
wicker storage.

Then we're building
a beautiful archway,

leading to the
rest of the cabin.

Troy: You love the arches!
Rotem: Yeah.

Troy: And I love building them.

♪

Jena: We are standing
in the entryway.
Sean: Yeah.

Jena: And there's this
wall blocking the view!

For the bonus build,
first and foremost,

we've gotta blow that wall out.

And Sean is gonna go ahead and
build a custom bench,

a panelled closet,
and a custom vinyl mat

to protect that beautiful
wood flooring.

It looks like tile
at a fraction of the cost.

Sean: Mhm.
Jena: And let this
be a greeting wall.

It's a short-term rental and
let's welcome them on this wall.

Scott: We're not looking
for the mediocre team,

we're looking for the best team.

Savannah: It looks great!

like they're getting

a handmade rustic feeling.

Sean: In the primary bedroom,
we have built a little

knee-high wall
behind the bed head.

Jena: We've decided to
hit the focal point wall

with a beautiful slat design.

Sean: It's tight, see,
because when it's all rolled up

for so long...

Sean: Let's stress it.
Jena: Okay.

Sean: Turn it over, see if
we can make it sit flat.

This is a very
stressful process.

If we damage that panel...
Jena: We'll have no future wall.

Scott: What's this
happening here?

Arnold: I thought it would
be a good idea in this space

to hide the technology. So we're
mounting a TV on the ceiling.

Scott: Okay!
Arnold: Motorized,
it'll swing down.

So we're gonna use
those kind of creative

applications of technology,

and bring it all into a cabin.

Scott: What other
types of technology

are we gonna see in here?
Arnold: We got some surprises,

the box trim,

they're not centered.

My measurements are off.

Savannah: I need a 5 inch space.

Kyle: Yes, it was my
mistake and I'm sorry.

These are already
glued together.

I can't take them apart, so I'm
going to cut there and there,

and then just
glue them together.

We're gonna kiss it out.

in our first cabin challenge,

our teams are starting their
furniture load in,

and they must complete their
finishing touches on the spaces.

Arnold: The goal of the gallery
wall with the tablets is

so that as guests come in,
they can take a picture

and add their images
to the Luxe Lodge.

April: Maybe we could just
leave it, with no frame?

Arnold: Just has
to come together.
April: Yeah!

Rotem: Troy, do you have
an allen key bit?

Troy: This first challenge is
hugely important to us

because it sets the tone for
the rest of the competition.

Rotem: I'm really nervous
that we won't finish on time.

Troy: Wait, wait, wait!

Jena: We gotta get this up fast.
We have so much to do.

We've just got to
keep powering through

and get to that finish line.

Debra: Hey everyone,
how's it going?
- Good!

Scott: We had a big task

for our first challenge.
Debra: Yeah.

Scott: Main floor bedroom,
main floor bathroom,

and as a bonus build,
the front entryway.

What are you going
to be looking for?

Debra: Well, I love
a good first impression.

As soon as I walk in,

I want to be 'wowed'
like vacation has started.

I want to see something unique!

Scott: Absolutely.
We'll be looking at

the quality of your work,
the functionality of the space,

and the creativity
of your design.

But I'm super excited
because we haven't seen

any finished product yet and
this will be the first time.

Bryan: That's it.

Scott: You guys
feeling confident?

All: Yes!
Bryan: We'll be back.

Scott: Let's start off with
April and Arnold's Luxe Lodge.

Scott: Oooh!
Debra: What is
happening right now?

Bryan: This is the Luxe Lodge.

Debra: I gotta take
all of this in right now.

There's a lot going on.

♪

You have like a huge
feature wall here.

It has a sexy vibe to it.

Even like the tile,

looks like it's done
very, very well. Wow!

Bryan: It does feel rich.
It feels luxurious.

Scott: They've got
these tablets set up.

Very technology forward.
Bryan: Yeah.

Debra: Guys, look,
we could do a selfie here.

Scott: 3-2-1-- vacation!

Bryan: There we go.

Scott: They're really thinking
about the experience.

I'm gonna give them credit.

Debra: (gasp)

Bryan: Wow, like this.
Debra: Oh my gosh!

Look at that feature wall!

It has this little
Deco feel to it.

Bryan: This is the
primary bedroom.
Scott: Yeah.

Bryan: These are the
people paying the bills.
Debra/Scott: Yeah.

Bryan: You want the most space,
the most storage.

Debra: Ah!
Scott: Stop it!

Bryan: But it's not
centered on the bed.

Debra: What I do wish they would
have done was paint the ceiling

a little bit lighter,
so a little bit more light

would reflect into the space.

♪ (upbeat music) ♪

Okay--

Scott: And the bathroom.
Debra: Take this in.

Bryan: There we go. So they've
continued the theme.

♪

Scott: There's a tub
in the shower!

Bryan: It's a seated shower.

Debra: Ohh, that's risky.

Bryan: Especially
for a primary bathroom.

Debra: Like, how do you
wash your hair?

You have to like, wet your hair
with the wand, put it down...

...now you're freezing cold.

Love the tile behind the
freestanding tub.

But again, there's a
little too much happening.

Everything's very dark.

There needs to be a little
bit more of a balance.

Sometimes in spaces you see
so many wonderful things

and you want to put all
of them in the space,

and that's kind of
what I feel like here.

Bryan: Sometimes there's just
too many wonderful things

in one space and you
have to remove one.

Debra: Exactly.
Scott: Sometimes the best one.

April and Arnold's
first challenge

took almost $17,000 out of their

$100,000 budget,

which is a healthy spend,

but they didn't go overboard.

Bryan: All right.
Savannah and Kyle's cabin!

Entryway.
Scott: (whistles)

Debra: WOW!
Bryan: Yeah, exactly.

♪

Scott: Bryan, Debra
and I are judging the first

cabin challenge.
And now we're heading into

Savannah and Kyle's
romantic cabin.

Debra: WOW!
Bryan: Yeah, exactly.

Debra: Oh my go--
Okay, I love this!

This is so functional.
Bryan: Yeah.

Debra: You can
take off your shoes.

You can hang up your jackets.

Bryan: There's always hats,
mitts, shoes, socks,

so this is great.

Debra: They found a space to
add some interesting

paneling and detail.
It feels so grand.

Scott: It feels fresh.
It feels spacious.

Bryan: Not usually a big
fan of checkerboard,

but I think it works here.

Talking about a rental
vacation property,

this is going to
wear really well.

Debra: There's a formality to
this place that I love.

Bryan: Oh, I think
that's the theme.

Look at this art they
hung on the wall.

Scott: It's beautiful.
Debra: Perfect.

It's like the King.

Scott: Be careful.
It's a mirror.

You don't wanna look
in that and get hurt.

Bryan: There's always
room for improvement.

Scott: Oh!
Bryan: There we go!

Scott: Oh!

Debra: Ohhh, WHAT?!
Bryan: Look at this!

Scott: Ohh boy!

Debra: I love this!

Scott: (laughs)
Bryan: Birds and butterflies--

Scott: You would!
Look at all the wallpaper!

Debra: Oh my gosh,
I love the wallpaper!

I love what they've
done with just a regular,

ordinary subway tile.

It looks so high end and classy.

Bryan: It's functional.
All: Lots of storage.

And you've got enough
countertop space here.

The quality is there.

I'm curious to see if this
carried into the bedroom.

Scott: Oh my!

Wow!
Debra: Whoa!

Bryan: There's a lot
happening in here.

The panelling on the walls
perfectly lined up

with the furniture

and the install is great!

This is not my style, but
I can appreciate this stuff.

Scott: I always try to put
myself in the guest shoes.

Would I stay here? Charming?
Debra: Yes!!

You would stay here.
Debra: Yes!! Of course.

Scott: And I feel like you're
getting good value.

You're getting an escape.
Bryan: That's it.
Debra: It's a vacation.

Bryan: I'm in England, I'm,
I'm somewhere else.

Scott: Something that
I'm struggling with,

it feels like each room
was designed in isolation.

The floor changes in each room,

the ceiling finish choices,
the light fixtures,

they're all very different.

Spending over $20 grand
in this challenge

means Savannah and Kyle
went all in.

They spent the most on this challenge,

and will have to be careful
moving forward.

Bryan: Rotem and
Troy's cabin.

Scott: Ooh, here we go.

Debra: Wow!
Bryan: Yeah!

Debra: I love the arch.

That is beautiful!

Scott: I like the
raw wood doors.

It's got that Mediterranean vibe.

Debra: And the
floor is stunning!

It almost looks like brick.

Scott: And they decided
to keep the front entrance

continuing through
to the bathroom.

Debra: Seamless.
The light fixture is lovely,

but in the evening this is going
to be a very dim lit space.

Bryan: Well, let's
check out the bedroom.

Yeah, same theme.
Debra: Wow! This is beautiful!

Bryan: Cozy!

Debra: I feel like I am in
a European hotel room.

Scott: Well, then they
nailed it for the brand.

Debra: Yeah!

I love the texture of the
feature wall

behind the headboard.

Bryan: It's really
hard to find something

wrong or unacceptable
in this room,

as far as the
craftsmanship goes.

Scott: Oh wow, there we go!

Bryan: Oh, that looks good.
Debra: This is beautiful! Again.

Scott: This looks great!
Debra: Love the arch.

Scott: Yeah,
Debra: It's nice
that it's repeated.

Bryan: It's a theme.

Debra: It's fresh.
It's bright, it's light.

And I do love a
stacked subway tile.

You know, it's an
inexpensive tile,

but it looks so much more elevated,

when you install it this way.

Bryan: This is a neat
feature here too.

Scott: Custom vanity built.
Bryan: Custom frame.

You have the live edge
on the bottom.

Debra: But if you're
here for a week or two,

you have zero storage.

I like to put my
toiletry bag away,

whereas here, I either have to
put them on the floor

or move the towels down.

Bryan: That being said,
this is all custom built.

It looks great.

Now it's gonna be interesting
to see if they can carry this

through the rest of the cabin.

Scott: Absolutely.

Rotem and Troy spent
$11 and-a-half thousand bucks,

the least amount of any team
so far, so they've still got

a good chunk of their
budget to work with.

Scott: Okay...
Bryan: Oh, hey!

Scott: ...they've done something
very different here.

♪

I do like how they brought
this wall forward all the way.

All three doors and the entire
wall are nice and symmetrical.

It is very dark though, and it
sucks in a lot of the light.

Debra: It's a bold move!
Scott: Yeah.

But there is a
playfulness too, you know.

'Hi, I'm Mat' on the way in.
Debra: Yes.

Bryan: I like the little
signboard too.

Debra: Why is the tile
brought all the way

past the bedroom door?

Scott: It's a vinyl mat

on top of

the floors.

Debra: If this is winter time,

you could lay this out to
protect your floors,
Scott: Yep.

Debra: And then you could
lift it up in the summer time,

when you're not worried about
those elements. That's awesome!

Ohh, YES!

Scott: This is interesting.
Bryan: Look at that.

Debra: I love that accent wall!

With the LED near,
so immediately

there's just that ambiance.

Bryan: He built
this out of plywood.

Scott: Yes!
Debra: I love it!

Black toilet, black sink.

Scott: That toilet is
a decision right there.

Debra: I'm here for it.
Very cool.

Scott: One of the biggest
challenges with this space

is this lime wash finish.

It's so subtle,
it's not paying off,

I think the way they expected.

Oh, look at this!

Bryan:
So we've covered the timber

with the plywood on this side.
Debra: Okay.

I love the integrated shelf
again with the LED light.

Scott: It's clean.
It's minimalist.

Bryan: Yeah, we've got that
limewash again.

When it comes to
the fit and finish,

I'm seeing exposed edges.

I see the rough edge of the ply
across there as well.

It's a little rough
around the edges,
Debra: Yeah.
Scott: Okay.

but the overall
feeling for me, I like.

Scott: For me, with
a vacation property,

your theme needs to be obvious.
Bryan: Right.

Scott: The marketing material
is in the branding.

I like what this wall
looks like on its own,

and I like what the feature wall
looks like on its own.

But when I see them
come together,

I feel like there's a little bit
of connective tissue missing.

Jena and Sean budgeted well,

spending just over $13,000.

They're in good shape budgetwise

for the rest of the cabin.

Bryan: So four completely,

completely different cabins!

Scott: Between now and getting
back to the fire pit,

we have to pick a winner.

You ready to do this?

This is gonna be tough.

Scott: We've walked through your
cabins and it's impressive

what you've managed to achieve
in just seven days.

Bryan: Three rooms
this week, that is huge!

Scott: Rotem and Troy.

The first thing I noticed,

you have a very clear theme.

It has a European
old-world vibe.

But you're not taking us
too far down that path.

Your colors and your finishes
do feel modern enough.

Rotem: Thank you.

Debra: Design wise, I love gold.

I love Mediterranean.

I loved your tiled floor.

I was just like... stop.

The arches just stole my heart.

I was like, 'Ah!'

On the functional side of it,

the vanity didn't have
any storage,

so I was like, 'Ugh.'

Bryan: Rotem and Troy,

your entire design was very
comfortable, very inviting.

The actual implementation
and the work done

is really high quality.

I had a tough time
finding a lot of faults.

Rotem: Thank you.

Bryan: Jena and Sean.

Walking in, it's crisp,
it's clean. Very modern.

Debra: That feature
wall is stunning.

It's so beautiful.
I love a vertical slat.

Scott: But your feature wall
and one of the side walls

were very clean, fresh,

and then we took an abrupt turn

and went super dramatic
on the right hand side.

Debra: With the lime wash
and the walls,

it was such a subtle detail,
I thought maybe

it should have been a
little bit more dramatic

because I couldn't tell,
'Is that finished?'

Jena: Awesome. Thank you.

Scott: Savannah and Kyle!

You invested heavily
on your front entrance.

And honestly,

I think it paid off.
Savannah: Thanks.

Scott: I think it paid off. It
feels spacious when you walk in.

Now you chose
a lot of wallpaper.

I don't even know where to start
because there was wallpaper

in the bedroom, there's
wallpaper in the bathroom.

Bryan:
This took me back in time.

Gave me that nostalgic
feeling of almost

visiting my grandparents.

Debra: From a designer,

ohh, that wallpaper

is my favorite thing on Earth.

Oh my gosh, it warmed my heart!

I love how you took a
subway tile and you did

an interesting pattern with it,
because you don't need to

break the bank to get
something spectacular.

Scott: Where I was
slightly challenged,

is the floor transition
from room to room,

felt quite abrupt and
I'm kind of looking for

more of a seamless experience.

Bryan: April and Arnold.

I'm big fans of the impact
when you walk in.

The tech, we had fun
with some selfies,

loved looking at the photos.

Scott: You're future
proofing your property,

which I think is genius.

That share button
is your best friend.

Bryan: I love the feeling of
this. It is luxury.

It's exactly what you
told us you were going for.

to see your theme here.

Scott: I like the
