[drum sticks pinging on metal]

Mami: '‘Ey!

You Bronx Squirrels sound great!

And there's my drum I was looking for.

You squirrels wanna join my drum circle later?

André: Drum circle? What's that?

Mami: A bunch of us bring our percussion instruments to the park and play together.

Alma: And they always sound way way wayyy

ah-may-zing!

I'm so in!

André: Me too!

Mami: How about the Bronx Squirrels play a solo?

Alma: Yes! André: Totally!

Mami: i¡Súper!

Grab drums from my music room.

And Abuelo can bring you to the park later.

Alma: Bye Mami! André: Bye Mrs. Rivera!

Alma: Ready?

Alma/André: Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Heeey!

Howard: Hey!

Alma: Hi, Howard! Guess what?!

Howard: Okay.

Ummm... hmmm.

I give up. What?

Alma: The Bronx Squirrels are gonna play at my Mami's drum circle in the park later!

Howard: No way! I love drumming!

Wanna see how good I am?

André: Sure! Alma: Okay!

Howard: Drumstick me, please.

Count me in, Alma.

Alma: Ah-one-two-three-four...

Howard: [complicated clangy drumbeat on metal steps]

Alma/André: Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Heeey!

Alma/André: Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Heeey!

André: Wow, Howard, you ARE good.

Howard: Told ya! It's all about the downbeat.

[snazzy drum solo]

Alma: Ooo! Wanna play in the drum circle with us?

André: Oh yeah!

You can be a Bronx Squirrel!

Howard: Are you kidding me?!

I've always wanted to be a Bronx Squirrel!

Wait.

What's a Bronx Squirrel?

Alma: [giggles] It's our drumming group.

André: Ya know...

We dress like squirrels...

And we did that show with Lucas.

Howard: Oh yeah!

I'm in.

Alma: Sa-weet!

But first, there's something that you need.

Be right back.

Welcome to the band, Howard!

Howard: I feel very squirrelly!

Buuut...

Alma/André: Buuut?

Howard: I don't have a drum.

Alma: We'll grab some drums from Mami's music room.

Lezz go!

Alright!

Let's pick our drums!

André: Hmmm...

Whoa!

You have a talking drum?

[deep low drum beat]

Sounds just like the one my Grandad sent me from Nigeria!

I'm gonna play this in the drum circle.

Alma: Sa-weet choice!

Oh!

I call the bongos!

[lively drum beat]

Howard: Hmmm.

I'm looking for something that can do this.

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

Alma: Hmmm.

How '‘bout that snare drum?

Howard: Okay.

[snare beat]

Hmm.

That's not what I'm looking for.

What else can I try?

André: Umm, there are no more drums in here.

[pans clanging]

Alma: Oh, I know where we can look for a drum.

C'mon!

Abuelo: [humming]

Alma: Hi, Abuelo!

Abuelo: i¡Hola, niños!

I'm taking you to the drum circle in a couple of minutes.

Alma: Okay, we just need to find Howard a drum.

Abuelo: Okay.

[bowls clang] André/Howard/Alma: Ooh!

Abuelo: [bowls clatter]

Alma: Maybe one of those bowls could make a good drum.

Abuelo: Hmmm. Nice idea!

Test it out.

[High-pitched ping]

Howard: Hmmm. Too pingy.

[Louder high-pitched pang]

Howard: Ahh! Way too pangy!

Abuelo: [chuckle]

Help Howard find something.

We're gonna leave in a minute.

André/Alma: Okay.

André: Hey!

What about that?

Here Howard, try this.

Howard: Chacho's dog bowl?

Alma: Really?

André: Well, Chacho's not using it.

And it's empty.

Howard: Looks pretty clean.

[plastic taps]

Chacho: [whining]

Howard: Okay, that's closer.

But not close enough.

[sniffs] And smells way too doggy.

Chacho: [disappointed grumble]

Abuelo: Time to go! Howard: Huh!?

Abuelo: Vamos, Chacho! Let's go for a walk.

Woah!

Howard: Wait!

I still don't have a drum!

Alma: Maybe there's an extra one for you at the drum circle.

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

[Howard drums along bench]

I really hope I find a drum.

Alma: Don't worry Howard.

We'll totally find a drum for you.

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

[Howard drums top of bucket]

Hold up!

André: Huh? Alma: Huh?

Howard: Clean and dry.

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

[Howard drums top of bucket]

This is it, people!

This is the drum I want!

André: Oh yeah!

Alma: Ah-may-zing!

André: Wait, are we sure we can use that?

Alma: You're right. It probably belongs to someone.

Let's ask.

[clears throat]

[yelling] Whose bucket is this? Anyone? Anyone?!

[bushes rustle]

Howard/André/Alma: Ah!

Rose: Hey, squirrel friends!

The bucket's mine!

I was gonna use it to move my plants later.

Howard: If you're not using it now, can I use it as a drum?

[Howard drums top of bucket]

Please?

Rose: Sure! Knock yourself out.

Howard: Thanks, Rose!

Rose: [laughs] You got it!

Howard: I got my drum!

Alma: Alright!

André: Yeah!

Alma: Drum circle here we come!

Abuelo: Come on Chacho. Come on.

Mami: [drumming] Let the sticks bounce off the drum head. Like this.

'‘Ey, the Bronx Squirrels are here!

Take a seat.

Aight! Let's break it down!

Mami: [drumming]

[drum circle joins in on groovy beat]

Alma: Sa-weeet, huh?

[groovy drum circle rhythm]

Mami: Ready, Eddie?

Hit it!

[Eddie plays fast cowbell solo]

Mami: i¡Así es! Alma/Howard: [cheer] André: Go Eddie!

[Eddie plays fast cowbell solo]

Mami: You're up, Lexy!

[Lexi plays fast snare drum solo]

Alma: I know, right?

[Lexi finishes snare drum solo]

Mami: Nice one Lexy!

Alma/André/Howard: [cheer]

Mami: Okay, break time!

Let's take five!

Howard: I'm gonna go hydrate.

Alma: Okay.

André: I'm in.

Howard: [slurp] Ahh.

Huh!

Huh? My bucket!

Where'd it go?

Alma: It was just here.

Howard: But now it's gone!

Mami: Ready, everyone?

Your solo's up next, Bronx Squirrels!

Howard: No! I can't play without a drum!

André: We'll find it!

Alma: We'll be back, Mami!

Mami: Okay!

Alma: Look!

There it is!

[mud splat]

Howard: Ack!

Rose: Whoops! Did I getcha?

Howard: No, but you got my drum.

Rose: Oh no!

I found my bucket sitting on the grass, so I figured the drum circle was over.

Here, have it back.

Howard: Uhhh, no thanks.

Rose: Sorry, Howard.

Howard: It's okay.

André: Wait up, Howard.

Howard: [sigh] Looks like I can't be a Bronx Squirrel anymore.

Howard out.

André: Howard, wait!

Alma: Howard looks really sad.

And now he can't play in the drum circle.

Right?

I gotta think about this...

[Howard drumming and singing]

Alma: Howard loved playing the bucket...

Alma: But he doesn't have it anymore.

And he loved drumming on my porch too...

But I can't bring that to the park!

[giggle]

So, what else can he use?

Hmmm...

Howard: I'm looking for something that can do this...

[claps and pats in rhythm]

Alma: Howard sounded pretty good when he clapped and drummed on his legs and chest.

Wait a minute!

That's it!

I know what to do. [snaps]

Great news, Howard!

I found a drum for you!

Howard: Go on...

Alma: Show me what you're looking for again!

Howard: Ya know, something that goes like...

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

Alma: Yep, that's it.

Howard: What's it?

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

André: That! Right there!

Howard: What?!

I can't see it.

Is it an invisible drum?

Alma: Nope. When you tap on your body, you ARE your drum.

Howard: Really?

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

Hey! I am my drum!

Alma: Yup, that's it!

André: Congratulations. You're back in!

Howard: Yes!

Alma: Get ready for the Bronx Squirrels!

Mami: Okay, Bronx Squirrels!

Make some noise!

Alma: A-One-Two-Three- Uh...

Howard: Hold up!

I can't play...

... until I warm up!

Oof!

Alma/André: Howard!

Howard: Okay. Now I'm ready.

Alma: Ah-One-Two-Three-Four...

Alma/André: [playing drums]

Alma: Hit it, Howard!

[Howard claps and pats his body in rhythm]

Mami: Sounding great Howard!

[Bronx Squirrels play their solo]

Alma: Howard sounds way way wayyy ah-may-zing!

And ya can't beat that!

[drum circle joins in groovy rhythm]

Everyone: Hey!

[♪♪♪]

Alma: "“Alma's Payday"”

[subway rumbles by]

Papi: Fettuccine or rigatoni?

Hmm.

Alma: Hmm.

Fettuccine!

Papi: Great choice.

Alma: We're picking up some things we need, like pasta...

...soup, beans...

... and we also need...

Junior/Alma: [gasp]

Toys!

Papi: Are '‘toys' on the list?

Mami: Huh... [chuckles]

Nope!

Junior/Alma: Ooo!

Wow!

Alma: These are ah-may-zing!

Junior: I want that!

And that!

And two of those!

Maybe three?

Alma: I want that!

[gasp] I mean that!

Can we get toys, please?

Papi: We're only shopping for food today, hijos.

Junior/Alma: [sigh]

Mami: Well... you could save up to buy toys with...

Toy Tickets!

Papi: Mm-hmm.

Junior: Um, excuse me, what's a Toy Ticket?

Mami: Okay.

Check this out.

You can earn these tickets, for doing extra jobs around the house.

Alma: I love where this isgoing.

Mami: And you can trade Toy Tickets in for toys!

Alma: Yes! Junior: Wahoo!

So how many tickets do I need for...

That?

Mami: Let me check the price.

Ah, okay.

You need eight Toy Tickets for the puzzle.

Junior: How '‘bout these stickers?

Papi: Hm. I'd say those stickers are...

Four tickets.

Mami: Mhm.

Alma: Sa-weet!

I'll see you later, puzzle!

Oh yeah. You will be mine!

[baseball playing on radio]

Sports Announcer: Bottom of the ninth. Bases loaded.

Alamilla is up to bat.

Can the Sweat Sox win the game?

Alma: Mami, Papi!

Do you have any jobs?

[baseball bat hits ball on the radio]

Oh. Baseball game.

Sports Announcer: It's going, going...

ooh, it's caught!

Game over! The Sweat Sox lose!

Abuelo: Oh! Ay, no!

Papi: Ah, well. Sorry Gustavo.

Sports Announcer: Ooh, tough loss for Sweat Sox fans.

This has got to hurt!

Abuelo: Oh yes it does!

Mami: Better luck next time, Papá!

Abuelo: Play music that will make me less sad.

[radio plays salsa music]

Abuelo: [humming] [chuckle]

Alma: ¿Permiso? Mami, Papi, do you have any jobs for me?

Papi: Hmm, you could empty the shed so I can hose everything off.

That'll earn you six Toy Tickets.

Alma: Six tickets!

Then I'd only need...

...two more tickets to get the puzzle!

Mami: Almita, that's a pretty big job.

Maybe you could ask Junior to help, and share the tickets with him?

Alma: Hmm.

It'd be nice to have help...

buuut, I need all the tickets for my puzzle.

No gracias, I can do it by myself.

Mami: Okay!

Junior: Roar! Roar, roar!

Wanna play, Alma?

Alma: No thanks, I've got a job to do!

Junior: Me too.

My job is playing.

Alma: Okay.

[shed doors bang open]

Alma: Oof.

That's a lotta stuff!

But I got this!

Easy peasy.

[humming]

Ugh!

Oof!

This is heavier than it looks.

Hello, Flamingo!

I think I'm almost done!

Ugh! Not even close.

This is going to take forever!

[groans] I'm gonna need help.

Junior: Roar, roar, roar!

Alma: [gasp]

Hey, Junior.

Remember those dino stickers?

Junior: Uh-huh.

Alma: Dontcha really want them?

Junior: Yeah. But I don't have any Toy Tickets.

See?

Nothin'.

Alma: Well, I'm getting Toy Tickets for cleaning out the shed.

If you help me, I'll share them with you.

Junior: How many would I get?

Alma: Uhh...

How many should I give Junior?

I know!

One ticket!

Then you'll only need three more tickets to get your stickers.

And I'll need three more for my puzzle.

Okay?

Junior: Okay. I'm in.

Let's get to work!

Chacho: [growling]

Alma: Hey, Chacho!

Junior: [grunting]

Junior: [grunting]

Alma: Chacho!

[kissing sound] Come here!

Junior: [grunting]

Alma: Whoa!

Junior's doing a lotta work.

This job's gonna be way way wayyy easier with his help.

Junior: Oh yeah! It's empty!

Alma: Are we good or what!

Junior: Uh-huh!

We make a great team!

Alma: Be right back, Junior!

Abuelo: [slurp] Needs more slurp!

Alma: Mami! Papi!

We finished the job!

Mami: We?

Alma: Junior and I did it together, so we both get tickets.

Mami: Ah, share the work, share the tickets!

That's my girl.

Papi: Here ya go, Almita.

Alma: i¡Gracias!

Junior!

One ticket for you.

And the rest for me.

Junior: One ticket! One whole ticket!

One ticket. [groans]

Only one ticket.

Alma: What's the matter Junior?

Junior: You got way more tickets than I did.

I don't like that. [groans]

Alma: My stomach feels all weird.

Junior said he'd do the job for one ticket.

That's fair, right?

[sigh] I gotta think about this...

Mami: You need eight Toy Tickets for the puzzle.

Papi: Hmm...I'd say those stickers are four tickets.

Alma: I should get more tickets '‘cause my puzzle costs more.

That sounds fair to me...

I think.

Junior: We make a great team!

Alma: Oh wait!

But Junior did as much work as I did.

Mami: Ah, share the work, share the tickets!

Alma: I did share the tickets like Mami said.

But, I did keep way, way, wayyy more for me.

Ohhh.

I know what to do.

Hey, Junior!

Since you did half the work.

It's only fair that you should get half the tickets.

Alma: What.

Junior: I still need one more ticket to get my stickers.

Alma/Junior: Huda Store!

Mami: Lezz go!

[subway rumbles by]

Junior: I can get my dino stickers!

Alma: And I can get my puzzle.

And I'll even have tickets left over for something else!

Alma/Junior: Ooo!

Junior: A ring toss game!

Alma: Wow!

Junior: I've always wanted that!

Alma: Me too!

Mami, how many Toy Tickets for this?

Well, that's more expensive than the other things.

So tickets.

Alma: Aw, I only have ten tickets.

Junior: Me too.

Alma: [gasp] I have a sa-weet idea!

If I don't get the puzzle...

And you don't get the stickers...

We could put our tickets together...

Junior: Ooo!

I don't get it.

Alma: I have ten, and you have ten.

If we put our tickets together we'll have tickets.

Junior: Then we can get the ring toss game!

Papi: I like how you think.

Junior: Since we earned this together, we gotta carry this together.

Alma: You got it Junior!
