- And... action.

[stomping] - Rawr!

[stomping]

[stomping from bottom floor]

- Cut.

What was that?

- Mr. Malone, downstairs. I think I just woke him up.

Sorry, Mr. Malone.

- Oh, He works at night

and sleeps during the day, right?

- Yeah. Sometimes I forget to be quiet.

- It's gonna be hard to make a dinosaur movie quietly.

- It's impossible.

Tyrannosaurs were huge and heavy!

They have to stomp!

And making the dino noises is my favorite part.

- You are really good at it.

- I guess we can't finish our movie right now.

What do you want to do instead?

- Hmm...

- Play Skillsville?

- I'm down for that. - Let's play.

[upbeat music]

[all]: Launch Skillsville.

- Devosaurus!

[growling]

- ParCora!

[grunting]

Racer Rae!

- Woo!

- Welcome to Skillsville!

[Scout panting] - Hi, hey, hello!

- Hi, Scout. - Hi!

- What kind of job are we playing today?

- Something where it's okay to make noise.

- Oh, oh! I know the perfect thing.

Follow me. To the telepuddle.

[grunting]

- Are we in a movie theater?

- I don't think so. There's no seats.

- Or popcorn.

- This is Skillsville Studios!

Where the Beeples make movies.

- Whoa! - Really?

- Whoa.

- Why can't we hear anything?

- Because this movie doesn't have any sounds yet.

We need a Sound Effects Artist to put them in.

- Wait, you need someone to make sounds.

That's a real job?

- Yup!

I guess you're gonna need this stick thingy!

I do love sticks!

- That's a microphone.

- It helps you record the sounds.

- Pssh. Totally knew that.

So, who's got the skills to get the job done?

- I'll do it.

- Dev is great at making sound effects!

- Let's do it! Here you go.

- Whoa, Now I can be as loud as I want! Roar, Roar!

Roar!

[beeping]

- Hmm?

- Who is that?

- The movie director.

And kind of a big deal.

The director decides if you've made the right sound effect.

Or not.

- Sound Effects Artist Challenge:

Create the sounds to match the action on screen.

-Looks like that Beeple is relaxing.

- Oh no! The bird took the sandwich.

- A movie with no sound is so weird.

- Then let's add some in!

What's the first sound effect we need?

- That Beeple takes a drink.

So I guess we need a slurping sound.

[beeping rapidly]

- The director says that prop cabinet

has things you need to make the sound effects.

- Ooo, let's see. Ah!

I can make a slurping sound

with this cup and this straw. Am I right?

[slurping]

[beeping happily]

- It's a match! Woo-hoo!

Good work, Dev.

- My grandmother always says I slurp really loudly.

What sound do we need next?

- A bird flaps down, then flies away.

- All we need is a bird to make the flapping sound.

- I'll check in the prop cabinet.

[swooshing]

Hmm... We don't have a bird.

- Is there anything else with wings

that can make the flapping sound?

- Wings, wings...

where can we find something with wings?

- Um... Scout?

You have wings.

- Huh? What? Oh, yeah!

I have wings.

- Great. Try to flap just like the bird on the screen.

- Oh! I'm gonna be in a movie.

[disappointed beeping]

[error notification]

- Aww... It's not a match.

- Scout's wings don't sound like bird Wings.

They're too "fluttery."

- Try flapping harder, Scout.

[flapping vigorously]

[disappointed beeping] [error notification]

[Scout panting]

- This isn't working.

The sound isn't matching,

but I don't know what else to do! I need to pause!

How is a Sound Effects Artist supposed

to make the sound of something they don't have?

- You might need to think differently

about how to make this sound.

- Gamers use lots of strategies, maybe there's a strategy

that can help you think differently.

- Since I don't have a bird to make the flapping sound,

maybe I could...

try something new?

- Yeah. That's a great strategy.

There's a whole cabinet full of new props to try!

- Maybe you'll find something new

that can sound like a bird's wings!

- Okay, let's give it a try.

Un-pause!

[Scout panting]

Scout, thanks for your help.

But we're going to try something new.

- Do I still get my name in the credits?

- See anything that we can use?

- Nope. Just stuff like gloves...

a ball... a mop...

Nothing that looks like wings.

- It doesn't have to look like wings.

It just has to sound like them.

So let's give this mop a try!

[mop slushing] Ew. Still wet.

Can you play the bird part again?

[heavy slushing]

[error notification]

Too wet-sounding. I'll try the gloves.

[light flapping]

[beeping happily] [success notification]

- It's a match. - Can see the whole thing?

[slurping]

[light flapping]

- You made movie magic.

Level complete.

[cheering] - Epic!

- Phew! I was pretty struck until I tried something new.

- That was thinking differently alright.

- Sound Effects Artist Challenge, scene two.

Action!

- Let's see what needs sound effects.

- That Beeple needs to make a new sandwich.

- Ooo, and is not happy about it.

- Oh no! They slipped.

- Alright.

Let's add some sound effects!

What was the first sound, again?

- A cabinet door slamming.

- Well, that's easy. We have a cabinet door.

- We do?

We do! We have a cabinet door.

- You slam the door, Scout, and I'll record it.

- Ready? - Ready!

[thumping]

[beeping happily] [success notification]

Woo-hoo!

Winner, winner, kibble-dinner.

- We haven't won yet, Scout.

There's still more sounds to make.

- The bread hits the wall, then falls to the floor.

- So we need two "thump" sounds.

- Let's see what we've got to work with...

[grunting]

Why won't it open?

- Look, the cabinet door has a lock.

- It must have locked when Scout slammed the door.

- Woopsie!

Do you have the key?

[beeping]

- That's gonna be a problem.

I need the things in there to make sound effects,

but I can't... [grunting]

Open... the doors!

- Oh! Have you tried, "Open, Sesame."

[grunting] - There's gotta be something

you can do. How about using your strategy?

- Oh yeah! I can try something new.

To help me think differently.

- But, try what?

Everything that we can try is in that cabinet.

- Hmm...

Not everything.

Maybe that scarf can make sound like bread thumping.

Could we borrow your scarf?

[surprised beeping]

Thanks.

- We can try my staff, too.

That could make a thumping sound.

- So could my chair.

- And me! I can thump, can I try.

- Sure, Scout.

Go for it.

- This is it.

The role I was born to play.

Bread.

[clapping] [disappointed beeping]

[error notification] - Not quite right.

- Aww...

[hollow thumping]

[error notification]

- Nope.

[wheels rattling]

[error notification]

- It's up to you, Dev.

[light ruffling]

[error notification]

- Aww... Wait! Let's try...

[light thumping]

[beeping happily] [success notification]

- Yes!

Can we see the whole scene?

[cabinet thumping]

[light thumping]

[beeping happily]

[cheering]

- Congratulations.

You've found the sounds.

Sound Effects Artist Challenge complete!

- Yeah!

- Sweet. - Woof-woo!

[beeping gratefully]

- Bye! - Bye.

- We'll se you next time, Scout.

- Yeah, let's play again soon.

- Sounds like a plan.

Later, Gamers.

- Bye, Scout.

That was awesome.

Wanna get back to filming our dinosaur movie?

- We can't make loud noises, remember?

- We don't wanna bother Mr. Malone.

- But maybe we can think differently about our movie.

You know, try something new.

- Like, what?

- Since our dinosaur stomping was too loud,

maybe we could make...

a flying reptile movie instead.

A pterodactyl doesn't have to stomp.

It can fly!

- Great idea, Dev!

- I think we're still going to need some flying sound effects.

- Definitely. How about this?

[laughing]

- Perfect.

[in a deep voice]: You find the sound.

Sound Effects Artist Challenge complete.

[laughing]

- Hmm, let's try...

Oh.

- My game projector! - There it is.

- Ah-ha!

- You startled me.

- Oops, sorry, Mom.

We didn't know you were working.

- Whoa!

What's that?

- I'm trying to plan a new section for Skillsville.

- A new section?

- Ooh, what's it gonna be?

- I don't know yet.

I want to create a place that will make the city even better.

This empty area is a good place to start

I'm just not sure what to put there.

- Can we help?

- I bet we can think of some good ideas.

- Yeah, we are Skillsville experts.

- Am I right? - Totally.

- Experts, huh?

Well...

- Please!

- Pretty please.

- With dinos on top.

[giggling] - Okay, okay.

I could use a little break anyway.

Let's see what you can come up with.

- Sweet! - Yes.

- Yeah.

- If you have any problems,

don't be afraid to ask questions.

I'll be right in the other room.

- Don't worry, Mom.

We've got the skills to get the job done

Launch Skillsville.

- ParCora!

[grunting]

Racer Rae!

- Woo!

- Devosaurus!

[growling]

Welcome to Skillsville.

- Hi, hey, hello.

Howdy, Gamers.

What are we playing today?

- We're gonna create a whole new section of Skillsville.

- Hot dog! Where will it be?

- In that empty space just outside the city.

- I know just where you're mean. To the telepuddle!

[grunting]

Here we are.

Okay, this space, you know, could use something.

- We could put almost anything here!

- Where should we start?

- City Planner Challenge.

- "City Planner"?

What do they do?

- Plan a new section of the city.

- Ah! Makes sense.

These must be all the things we can add to the area.

- Hmm, what do we want this place to be?

- Fun. We're creating it,

so let's make it someplace really fun!

- Yeah! With all the things we like!

- We can never have enough fun around here!

- Then let's see what's in the menu,

and each pick what we each want.

[gasping] - Is that...

a mud pit?

- Mud is super fun.

We could make mud pies, mud castles, and mud anything!

- Okay, one mud pit it is.

We can put it right here.

- This game just gets me.

- Me next.

Oh I want Jumping ramps!

So I can do awesome jumps over the mud pit!

- Let's add some of those!

[beeping]

Ooo! How about a doghouse for Scout?

- For me?

Really?

Finally, a place to rest my weary wings and paws.

- And I want...

to make those islands into a parkour course!

If we put these booster pads here, here, and here,

they'll boost us right to the top.

- Looks fun to me.

- Me too. - Me three.

- Ok, the plan's done!

I guess I just push this button...

- Thank you for submitting your plan.

Please allow three weeks for processing.

- Three weeks?

- Just kidding.

[beeping]

Welcome to Parkour Muddy Jump Ville.

- Home sweet home.

- Look! [grunting]

Dino tracks.

Rawr!

- It's just like we planned. Woo!

[grunting] - Woo-h*-h*.

Wee-hee-hee!

Mom is going to be so impressed.

[car honking]

[beeping]

- Our first visitors.

[truck rumbling]

[panicked beeping] [panicked clucking]

[mud splashing] [grunting]

Aw...

[error notification]

- Muddy mess.

- Oh no.

[beeping casually]

[bouncing] [beeping excitedly]

[error notification]

- Booster bust.

- What do I do, what do I do?

Uh... I need to pause.

[grunting stops]

[groaning]

How did our plan turn in into such a disaster?

- Maybe we should just ask your mom for help.

She did say we could ask her questions.

- No way. We told her we were experts.

Our gaming reputation is on the line here.

- Well, if we can't ask your mom questions,

what can we do?

- Maybe we ask each other questions.

That might help us get organized and make a better plan.

- That's a great strategy.

- Okay, now we know what to do.

Un-pause.

[grunting] - Ah-ha!

[beeping gratefully]

Don't worry, I'll get them down.

[grunting]

- Okay, first question.

How do we make sure the Beeples

don't step on any booster pads?

- Ooh, ooh, pick me!

- Dev, we're not in school.

- Sorry. Habit.

Do you think we can put the booster pads up a little higher?

- We should raise them up here.

So they're out of the way.

Next question.

Why couldn't the truck jump over the mud?

- You think the ramps are too far apart?

- Let's put them closer together to make it easier.

Okay, new plan complete.

Hopefully, this plan works better than the last one.

- Welcome to the new Parkour Muddy Jump Ville.

[beeping casually]

- So far, so good.

[truck rumbling]

[clucking]

[bouncing]

[squeaking]

- Ah... Just like new.

[mud splashing]

Ah! Owning a home can be rough!

- Ahem, Island getting away.

- Quick, stop that island.

[panting]

- Dino-hop!

[gasping] - It's gonna crash

into the airport!

[panting]

- I don't know how to stop it.

[dramatic music]

- New player added:

Camille--Real.

- Is that your... - Mom?

- Whoa!

- I know her.

- Need some help?

- Yes!

We need to stop that floating island.

- I could fix this with code...

but... Nah.

I'm going old school.

[boots charging]

- Whoa!

[upbeat music]

Yup, I still got it.

- Mom, how did you even--

- I was just checking in

and thought you could use a little help.

- Thanks.

We thought we could do this on our own.

But city planning is tougher than it looks.

- Oh, I know the feeling.

Even I was having trouble

planning this part of the city earlier.

- We tried asking each other questions.

- Which helped us get organized and make a plan.

- But we ended up making a huge mess for the Beeples.

- Not too mention my dog house.

- Asking questions is a good strategy.

Maybe you need to ask more questions.

[beeping angrily]

[gasping]

- Maybe we should ask the Beeples questions.

They're the ones who live here.

We should ask them what they want.

- Oh yeah!

And then we can change our plan around what they say.

- Great idea!

- Now you're thinking like true city planners.

[dinging]

- Scout, can you translate?

- Are you kidding? I was made for this.

[laughing] - Literally.

- Uh, hi, I'm City Planner ParCora.

Can we ask you some questions?

[beeping]

- How do you feel about mud pits?

[beeping nervously]

- No go on the mud pit.

- Aw...

[beeping excitedly

- Ha! But they do want water to splash in!

- Ooh, I like that too.

- What about jumps?

[beeping]

- What else would you like?

[beeping simultaneously]

- Uh-huh, whoa, okay. Slides? That's a nice idea.

And lots of trees?

Great ideas. We'll get right on it.

- Time to get planning.

I'll move this here.

This... here.

And last but not least...

- For the win.

- For the win.

[beeping]

- Welcome to Parkour

Splishy-Splashy-Water-Slidey Something-for-everyone Vile.

City Planner Challenge complet.

- Epic! - Yes!

- Alright! - Great job, everyone.

The Beeples will have lots of fun here.

- And we'll have fun too.

[laughing]

Wee! [cheering]

- Woo-hoo! Best.

New.

Section. Ever!

Woo!

- Scout! Do you like your doghouse?

- It's perfect!

You wanna know why?

It can get messy up here.

Don't you even think about it.

- Bye, Scout. - See ya!

- Later, Gamers.

- Bye, Scout.

[giggling] Thanks for your help.

I'd better get back to work.

I have to think of some new game upgrades.

- Upgrades?

- Mom? We know all about upgrades.

- Skillsville experts.

- Maybe if you ask us some questions,

we can help you make a plan.

- Okay, Gamers.

Here's a question.

What do you think about super booster pads?

- Super boosters?

- Yes!

- Now that sounds like a great plan.

[laughing]
