Yeah!

MALIK: "A Room of Our Own."

[Malik and Zeke humming]

ZADIE: Do you mind? I'm trying to read.

I don't mind that you're reading.

Read away.

[continue humming]

What I meant was, I can't read if you two are humming.

Sorry!

[whispering]: We'll be quiet.

Thank you!

[whispers loudly]: Do you have a blue pencil?

[whispers loudly]: Nuh-uh-- just green, yellow,

purple, white, orange, tan,

burnt sienna...

[clears throat]

[clattering]

Malik, you are a reading ruiner!

Only because I can't find the blue pencil.

Did you use it?

I might've.

Check under my clothes.

Not there.

Try the closet.

[groans]: Zadie!

Yes!

I'd appreciate it if you'd put the toys in the toy box

and pencils in the jar on the desk.

What if I need a pencil while I'm in the closet?

Pencils belong on the desk.

You're not the boss of pencils.

Uh, yeah, I am!

I'm the oldest.

Come on, can you not be mad?

I'm not mad, I just...

I want my own room!

So do I.

"Crack one egg into the batter..."

BOTH: Super!

And... safe!

Whoo, you made me jump, you two.

What's up? You look very serious.

We are! We have decided a thing.

An important thing.

And what is this thing?

We can't share a room anymore.

Zadie is too messy and disorganized,

which is very upsetting.

And Malik thinks he's the boss of pencils.

We decided we need our own rooms.

Last I checked, we don't have any spare rooms.

Then can I have the living room for a bedroom?

Hm, no.

Then can I have that?

Sure.

Thanks.

Are you making cornbread for supper, I hope?

That's a yes-sirree.

Yahoo!

[tape ripping]

Done-- how do you like it?

ZADIE: Uh...

This section is my room

and that section is yours, Zadie.

Zeke, you are here.

Where's Snout's room?

Hang on, do you get the closet, too?

I guess, yeah-- but you get the slide.

This is completely not fair.

Your room is way bigger.

Where does Snout go?

Snout can have a piece of my room.

There, fair now?

Nope-- also, how am I supposed to get to the door?

Your room's in the way.

Here's a pass to walk through my room.

Present your pass, please.

[grunts]

Looks good, you may proceed.

I am not going to use a pass

to get out of my own room.

[yelling]:Super!

What in the world?

Tell Malik these rooms he made aren't fair.

I think you just told him, Zadie.

It's okay, I get it.

I can figure out a way to fix this problem.

That's the spirit.

Cornbread'll be ready soon, kids.

[giggling]

Rooms are almost ready!

Whoo, yeah!

, , ...

Can we make it to , Zeke?

We can!

I worked it out, the rooms are ready!

, -- close enough!

It looks weird, I know,

but here's my plan to fix the problem.

Zadie, this is your room now.

To get to the door, you walk on the stepping stones,

which anyone can use, no pass needed.

And Zeke, when you leave your room, you go this way.

You know how we sometimes

have to cross the river using stones?

Well, this is kinda like that.

Your plan is too complicated,Malik.

Snout will forget.

Plus, the rooms still aren't fair.

My room is smaller than yours and Zeke's is tiny.

I did my best-- I couldn't find the ruler,

so I couldn't measure to make the rooms even.

Well, the good news is,

you gave me a new idea of how to fix the problem.

How about this for a plan?

First, we make a hallway, so we can all get in and out.

Look at you, drawing with the blue pencil,

which you didn't have to look for,

'cause it was right there on the desk!

Second,

we measure the space that's left into three equal rooms.

We can measure with this!

A banana is too curvy,Zeke.

We need to find something straight,

like a ruler, which I can't find.

That's because I left it at JunJun's.

We were designing a play castle.

Zadie, you have to put stuff back where it belongs!

Sorry. [chuckles]

[sighs]: I guess we can

use this box-- it's got straight edges.

I'll measure and you tape, okay, Zeke?

Boy, oh, boy!

While you do that, I'll pull up the old tape.

One, two, three boxes long.

And one, two, three, four,

five, six boxes wide.

Each room now measures the same.

Whoo-hoo, we worked it out!

One hallway we can all use and three equal rooms.

Just like my drawing.

And Snout will livewith me!

SUPER: Hey, kiddos.

Soon as the oven dings, supper's ready.

Check out how we fixed the problem, Super.

Cool, huh?

[oven bell dings]

ALL: Cornbread!

[chuckles]

We should have done this years ago.

I'm calling my room the Kingdom of Malikonia,

where everything is neat and organized.

Well, this here is Zadieland,

known for its delicious messiness.

Good night, everyone.

Night!Night!

[yawns]

[trumpet playing]What is happening?

In Malikonia, there's usually a concert before bedtime.

Oh, yeah? Well, in Zadieland,

we sing a really loud good night!

[trumpet playing, drum thumping]

[trumpet and drum continue]

My stars, they can't still be arguing.

MALIK AND ZADIE:Super!

Are you sure you want this for a room, Malik?

You don't wanna try to work things out with Zadie?

Nope, I'm good.

See you in the morning, Super.

[flashlight clicks]

Two in a room is so much nicer than three.

And look, now we have a giant tape ball.

Yeah!

But I miss Malik.

[shouting]: Good night, Malik!

MALIK [shouting]: Night, Zeke!

Have you seen the book I was reading?

I think it's under one of your piles.

Zeke, Zadieland might be getting a little too messy.

Help me clean it up?

Okey-dokey.

Snout can help, too.

In Malikonia, we sleep alone-ia,

but we're never lonely-a, in Malikonia.

Hi, hello! Are you here for a visit?

[sighs]: I guess not.

[sighs]

Our room is so neat now.

Malik would love it.

I don't mind cleaning once in a while.

I just don't want to clean all the time.

I could deal with that.

Malik! Did you forget something?

I... forgot to say good night to Snout.

Aw, Snout misses you, too, and so does Zadie.

I do not.

Not much-- a little.

Me, too, a little.

Do you wanna come back, Malik?

You do? Say you do!

Well...

I'll try not to be messy, Malik.

And I'll try not to be neat all the time.

Deal-- wanna sleep in my hammock since yours is still outside?

Sure.

We worked it out.

We figured out how to make three equal rooms.

And a hallway.

But that wasn't really the problem.

The problem was, we didn't know how to get along.

And fixing that problem is simple.

You have to be a little bit messy.

And you have to be a little bit neat.

[all yawn]

[snoring]

That looks fun.

[exclaiming softly]

[giggles]

Then you have to glue the walls together.
