Yeah!

MALIK: "Ellie's Island."

ZADIE: ♪ You can't catch me

♪ No one can catch me

Huh?

Ha! Gotcha! You're it.Look.

Hi. Me and Snout found this new elevator.

I'm gonna see where it goes.

Looks like it's going to the top of the tree.

All the way to

Ellie's house?

Malik? Zadie? Zeke!

What on Earth...

Ellie, when did you get your own elevator?

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but this isn't an elevator.

It's just a plain, old, nothing-special barrel.

Ta-da!

[groans]

I wanted it to be an elevator.

Actually, it's more like a suitcase.

Which I'm going to pack full of presents.

For-us presents?

No, sweetie.

Presents for some friends,

for my family,

and for Nani.

What's a nani?

She's my grandma, just like Super is your grandma.

These are my aunts, uncles, and cousins.

And this is my sunny, funny grandma Nani. [chuckles]

Tomorrow is Nani's birthday, so today,

I am going home.

So we can all be together on her special day.

But this is your home.

Isn't it?

Isn't the Treeborhood your home?

Of course it is.

But I was born in Jamaica,

and most of my family is there, so that's my other home.

Wait, you have two homes?

[slowly]: And what's a Jamaica?

[laughs]

I can see I have a lot of questions to answer.

This is Jamaica.

It's an island with mountains and cities

and wide, beautiful beaches.

I like to keep things from Jamaica around me,

like the flag...

...and Nani's favorite Nyabinghi drum.

ZADIE:Wait.

Are you bringing sparkle pants to Jamaica?

ELLIE: Yep.

I'm bringing things that are hard to find down there,

like sparkle pants

and Super's cornmeal crackers.

[panting]: And Duffy's famous beach plum jam.

Thank you, Mr. E.

You can put that on the table.

[exhales]: Whew!

Then my family packs the barrel full of things

that are hard to find here in the Treeborhood:

fruits like ackee and soursop,

and my favorite hot pepper sauce! MR. E [panting]: Oh, boy.

Mr. E, can I get you a refreshing glass of water?

And could I ask you three a teensy-weensy favor?

Yes, Ellie!

Actually, it's more of a medium-sized favor.

Would you pack the presents

into the barrel for me?

I have to get started on Nani's birthday cake--

her favorite coco-yummy grater cake.

We love packing stuff.

[slurping]

Now, that hit the spot.

Now, let's get cracking on that cake.

In go the crackers.

In goes the bag of baseballs.

[crackers smash]

That was not a good sound.

That was a "we just crunched the crackers" sound.

Not quite so energetic with the coconut, Mr. E.

WOMBATS [shouting]:Ellie!

We smushed some of the crackers.

The baseballs were too heavy.

Oh!

Sorry, Ellie.

No worries.

Who wants to eat crackers

when you can make music with them?

[crackers rattling, Ellie laughs]

Keep on packing, kids.

I know you'll make surethe rest

of the crackers stay safe.

[mixer whirring, Mr. E. yelping]

[yelping]

[mixer stops] How about you read me the recipe while I do the cooking?

I am on it.

"Next step.

Pour batter into pan."

I'm thinking...

I knew it.

You're wearing your thinking face.

...that we should put the heavy presents on the bottom.

Right, so they don't crush the lighter stuff.

But how do we know which presents are heavy

and which ones are light?

We can weigh them, with my arms.

They're really good at weighing stuff.

Try me.

The sparkle pants are heavier than the crackers.

ZADIE: Let's put everything in order

from heaviest to lightest.

Heavy stuff near the barrel,

because they go in first,

and light stuff over here.

[straining]: The baseballs are super-heavy,

so they go on the heavy end.

Are the baseballs heavier than the jam?

ZADIE: I think so,

but let's weigh them to be sure.

[grunting]

[both grunt]

[jars clatter] Whoa.

The jam is way heavier.

Now we compare baseballs to comics.

Baseballs are definitely heavier than comic books.

Next up,

comic books versus sparkle pants.

Hmm, close.

But the comic books are heavier.

So, the comic books go in the middle,

'cause they're heavier than sparkle pants

but lighter than baseballs or jam.

And we already know sparkle pants are heavier than crackers.

So, that's the final order.

Jam is the heaviest,

then baseballs,

comics, sparkle pants,

and crackers are the lightest.

Yay for my arms!

Let's get packing.

The jam goes in first,

because it's the heaviest.

Baseballs next, because they're lighter than the jam.

Then the comics, because they're lighter than the baseballs.

And then the sparkle pants.

[phone vibrating and ringing]

Nani! How are you?

Mi deh yah, yuh know.

Zadie, Zeke, Malik!

Come say hi to Nani.

And the lightest thing goes on top-- the crackers.

Coming!

ELLIE: And this is my other dear friend

from the Treeborhood, Zadie.

Hello, Nani.

Happy birthday.

I wish we could come to your party.

I wish you could, too. [laughs]

When are you leaving, mi luv?

Inna likkle bit.

Soon as your grater cake has cooled.

I made a big one.

Oh, my favorite!

Thank you, sweetheart.

I read her the recipe.

NANI: Then thank you, too.

Ellie, I wanted to mention

that Cousin Ava's knee is acting up.

And did you hear... [whispering]: We'll give you some privacy.

...that Uncle Winston took up dancing?

I can't wait to be home and be staying with you.

[exhales]: My Nani.

[loudly]: What?

Ellie's staying?

Sh!

[quietly]: She's staying in Jamaica?

She's not coming back to the Treeborhood?

[yelps]: That's not possible.

Is it? No!

Surely she would tell her best friend, me,

if she wasn't coming home.

Surely.

Unless she didn't want to upset me.

[sniffling]: I don't know why she thinks I'd be upset.

[sobbing]: I won't have it, I tell you!

I will make a Treeborhood rule that Ellie must come back.

Can you do that?

Uh...

No.

Where'd Zeke go?

What are you doing?

If Ellie's not coming back,

then I'm going with her.

No! I have to go!

Otherwise, my heart will hurt.

Listen, Zeke, I have an idea.

All thanks to you.

We can't stop Ellie from going...

[wailing]

...and we can't go with her,

but we can make her want to come back.

[crying]

By putting things in the barrel,

remember things,

that show how much we love her.

Yeah, and when she finds them,

she'll miss us so much,

she'll come home right away!

Hot potato!

That's a great idea!

Since the barrel's already packed,

the remember things have to go

on top, which means

they have to be lighter than the crackers, okay?

Let's each take a box of crackers

so we can make sure our stuff is lighter.

Ready? Go.

[camera clicks] MR. E [screams]: No, I blinked!

[camera clicks] [screams]: Calm down, machine.

Done-- all our remember things are lighter than the crackers,

and they are all packed in the barrel.

Goodbye! Farewell!

Inna di morrows!

Wait!

No! Stop!

My goodness!

Whatever is the matter, Zeke?

Snout's in the barrel.

I thought I could let him go with you, but I can't.

How'd Snout get in here?

Zeke put him in there so you'd come back to us.

Also, there's a necklace.

I made it for you-- it has a locket.

And I made you a card, a special card.

And I have gifted you with several photographs.

[chuckling]: I love these.

Thank you.

But why the presents?

Because we need you to remember us.

And know we love you.

So you'll come back to the Treeborhood.

Of course I'm coming back.

Why wouldn't I?

Because you told Nani you were staying.

We heard you.

I'm staying with her, yes,

but only for a week.

And then I'm coming home to the Treeborhood.

Really? Really.

Listen, Jamaica fills me with joy

That's the problem.

Ah, but what is extra-wonderful

is that I can bring that joy

Welcome to Zadie's Extreme Obstacle Challenge!

Are you ready to watch Zadie beat her record?

Yes. Yes, I am.

Yes-sir-ee.

Zadie takes her mark,

gets set...

[blows whistle]: And she's off!

Zadie clears the hippity-hoops.

Whoa!

Zadie almost falls into the pit of hot lava.

That was a close one.

Look at her go!

There she goes through the tunnel of rainbows!

She makes it across the raging river in record time.

Zadie is the ultimate champion!

And the crowd goes wild!

What in the Treeborhood happened in here?

You missed it, Grandma Super.

I just beat my Extreme Obstacle Challenge record!

That's great news, Zadie.

I have some great news, too.

Since Malik has a playdate at Sammy's,

and Zeke has a playdate at Louisa's,

I've arranged for Buckley

to have his first-ever playdate with you.

And the crowd goes wild.

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.

But that means you'll have to clean up this mess.

But why?

It's just gonna get messy again.

If you don't clean up,

you won't be able to find the toys you want to play with.

But I don't want to clean up.

That's no fun at all.

Think of all the fun you'll have once Buckley's here.

Like what?

Well, if you clean up for Buckley,

then after he gets here,

I could make you both a very special breakfast.

Deal. Deal.

I'll go get started.

[doorbell rings]

Buckley's here!

Hi, Super, hi, Zadie.

Thanks for having Buckley over.

Hi, Buckley.

What's up, Zadie?

We're gonna have the best time.

[gasps]

Be cool, Auntie.

Right, be back later, sugar plum.

Come on, Buckley.

Let's go play in my clean room.

Okay.

Wow! Cool room.

And it's so neat.

Yeah, it is.

So, what do you want to do?

I don't know.

What do you want to do?

Well, I was just playing...

Extreme Obstacle Challenge!

Wanna play that?

Uh, maybe later.

Who wants pancakes?

BOTH: Me, me, me, me, me, me, me!

Here are my extra-special blueberry

chocolate-chippy pancakes

with smiley-face whipped cream on top.

[giggles]

No way.

We only get these pancakes if it's someone's birthday,

or a holiday, or a day when we get a big ouchie.

It must be your birthday, Buckley.

[laughs]: Nope.

It's not my birthday.

Hmm, and I don't have an ouchie.

Do you, Buckley?

Nope, no ouchie.

If it's not your birthday,

and if we don't have ouchies,

then why do we get special pancakes?

It's so nice to have you over, Buckley.

Oh, I know.

Because you came over to play, we get to have special pancakes.

These

are

the best pancakes,

mmm, I've ever had, mmm.

How about you come over, like, every day?

If we get Super's special pancakes, then sure.

I'll come over all the time.

Deal.Deal.

BOTH: Mm.

So, what do you want to do now?

Can we paint?

I love painting.

Totally.

Let's go.

I know exactly what I'm gonna paint.

It's gonna be amazing.

Hmm, what should I paint?

A purple cucumber?

No.

A teeny tiny castle for fairies?

No.

I want to paint a big yellow moon

with moon unicorns bouncing on it.

Ooh!

[paint splattering]

[exclaims]: Buckley!

You're splattering paint everywhere,

and it's making a mess.

Oops, sorry.

I get excited when I paint.

[gasps]

It's empty, Buckley.

Because you used all the yellow,

now I can't paint my big yellow moon.

I'm sorry, but I needed it

for my bananas dancing around daisies painting.

You like it?

Yeah, I really do.

You're a great painter, Buckley.

Thanks.

Hey, you could turn the yellow paint splatters

into a bunch of tiny little stars,

and, uh, the moon unicorns could bounce from star to star.

Hmm, that might just work.

I love it.

Thanks, Buckley.

If you hadn't splattered my painting,

then I wouldn't have been able to make these beautiful stars.

What in the world happened out here?

Why don't you two wash off?

But I don't want to take a bath now.

I'm having too much fun.

Who said anything about a bath?

I have a better way for you to get clean.

If we run through the sprinkler, then we can wash off the paint.

Oh, yeah.

And, if you use the sprinkler,

then I won't have to water the plants. [giggles]

Come on, Zadie.

Race ya.

[cheering and giggling]

I'll go hang these in the bathroom.

Huh?

Ooh! Can I play with your finger puppets?

I love puppets.

Well...

[exhales]: They're really, really special.

But since we're having a playdate,

I'll share them with you.

I'm Super Acorn.

And you're Acorn Girl.

There, in the sky.

It's the Super Acorn signal.

We're off to rescue Acorn Baby.

[gasps]

[making flying sounds] Stop, Buckley!

You're playing too rough! Oh!

Oh.

You played too rough,

and you made my puppet break!

Why'd you do that?

I was just...

[stammering]: I'm sorry! I...

[crying]

Buckley?

[grunts]

What happened, squish?

Buckley just bolted out of here crying.

I'm mad.

He broke my toy, so I yelled at him.

Zadie, I understand why you're mad.

He broke something you made,

something that was really special.

I'd be mad, too.

But the things we say

affect other people.

When you yelled at Buckley, that made him sad.

I don't want Buckley to be sad.

What do I say to him now?

How about you find him and ask him what you can do

to make him feel better?

Then you might feel better, too.

Okay.

I'll go find Buckley.

Buckley, where are you?

Buckley!

BUCKLEY: I'm not in this knothole.

But if I were in here,

I'd say I'm really sorry I broke your puppet.

It was an accident.

I didn't mean to.

I know.

And I'm really sorry I yelled at you.

What can we do to make us both feel better?

What if we found something fun to play together?

Whoa.

Look at that leaf spin.

I wonder how long it will do that.

I don't know, maybe forever?

Let's follow the leaf to see how long it stays in the air.

And the leaf is on the move!

Around and around it goes, where it stops, nobody knows.
