Today we're meeting a super cool

martial artist and actor:

Hyuh!... Bruce Lee!

Yadina: A martial artist is someone who practices

a special kind of skilled movement.

Brad: Performing martial arts

is a great way to exercise,

express yourself, and build confidence!

Xavier: [hyuh] Many martial arts

are from places in East Asia,

[hyuh] like the city of Hong Kong!

Yadina: Ready, Dr. Zoom?

Xavier: Careful...

That goes there,

this goes here.

Hm, that's for that.

Hooo, okay!

Yadina: What are you making?

Xavier: I'm making a sweet race track for Sir Speedshell.

Yadina: Ooo!

Dr. Zoom is very impressed!

Xavier: [laughs] I've been building it forever.

But it's gonna be totally worth it.

Done! [giggles]

Now it's race time!

Brad: Where is my lime green crayon?

Xavier: Ready?

Brad: [gasps] Lime green!

Xavier: Set...

Brad: There you are!

[loud crashing]

Xavier: [gasps] Woah!

[angry] Brad?! You wrecked it!

Brad: I--I was just getting my crayon!

I didn't mean to break...

whatever this was.

Xavier: [angrier] It was a racetrack,

and I worked really hard on it!

Brad: I'm sorry, Xavier.

It's just that my crayon was--

[cracking]

[loud gasp]

That was my only lime green!

And you broke it!

Xavier: Well, you broke my track first!

Brad: By accident!

You did this on purpose!

Yadina: Um, guys?

Maybe we should take a break?

Huh, huh?

Xavier/Brad: Grrrr..!!

Yadina: [excited gasp] To the Secret Museum!

Xavier: No way!

Xavier/Brad: [grunts]

Yadina: Rules are rules!

When one of us says it, we all have to go!

Let's move it! Come on, let's go!

Yadina: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Uhmm...

And where we'll go?

And when!

Huh, this is gonna be a long day!

Yadina: Look out below! Brad: Woah!

Yadina/Xavier: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Upf!

Yadina: ♪ Ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-da!

Berby: [bleep blar bloop] Yadina: We're getting something!

Xavier: Running shoes?

Maybe we're going to meet a runner, like Sir Speedshell,

who had their racetrack wrecked. Hm?

Brad: Well, it's obvious we're going to meet someone

who liked bright colours...

like lime green! Hm?

Look Xavier, broken... bright... lime green...

[whirring]

Yadina: Look! Bruce Lee!

That's who we're going to meet.

Ready for adventure?

Xavier/Brad: [grunts]

Yadina: I said...

Ready for adventure??

Xavier: Ready.

Brad: Ready...

Berby: [bleep blarp bloop]

Yadina: Here we go!

Berby: [whirring] [blee blarp]

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woo-hoo!

Brad: Whoa!

Berby: [blee blee blar bloop!]

Yadina: So this is Hong Kong, in ...

Brad: Whoa! Xavier: What was that?

[grunt]

Bruce Lee: [grunt]

Yadina: [gasps] The running shoes from the Secret Museum!

So, is that...?

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Yes! That's Bruce Lee. Berby: [whirring]

[grunting]

[grunting]

Yadina: Hello?...Bruce Lee?

[grunting/struggling]]

Trio: [gasps] Yadina: Wha-!

Bruce Lee: Whoa! Sorry.

Didn't see you there.

I'm just SO annoyed...

[frustrated grunt]

Xavier: I get it. I'm annoyed too!

Brad: Same here. Annoyed!

Yadina: But let's keep this focused on Bruce...

So, what happened?

Bruce Lee: Well, I really wanted to read my favourite book:

The Little Dragon King.

But, I can't find it!

[frustrated grunt]

I wish I could just tear the house apart to find it!

[frustrated grunt/effort]

[exhales]

[deep inhale]

[long exhale]

I am in charge of what my body does.

I can't help feeling annoyed,

but I can stop myself from messing up the whole house.

That's why I'm out here.

If I can focus on something else,

it might help me feel less...

[frustrated] Ughhh!

[thinking] Hm...

Oh..!

Instead of reading The Little Dragon King,

maybe I can act it out!

Xavier: Act it out?

Bruce Lee: Yes! I am the Little Dragon King.

See me fly with my majestic wings!

Come be dragons with me!

Xavier: [giggles] Brad: Woohoo!

Bruce Lee: Then we can fly over any mountain...

...and soar through the clouds!

Weeee!

Xavier: Woohoo! Brad Weeee!

Xavier: Roaaar!Brad: I'm a flying little dragon!

[giggles]

Yadina: [whispers] I think it's working, Dr. Zoom!

Xavier/Brad/Bruce Lee: [sigh]

Bruce Lee: [exhales] That was fun!

I think I can go look for my book now.

Without tearing the house apart.

Bye!

Xavier/Brad/Yadina: See ya, Bruce!

Brad: Good luck!

Yadina: This is great!

Bruce feels better, and you two aren't mad

about the broken track

or crayon anymore.

Xavier: [grunts] No way!

I am still mad! [grunt]

Brad: ME too! Ha!

Yadina: Um...Berby?

Berby: [bleep blar bloop]

♪ Brad: Whoaaa!

Where are we?

When are we?

Berby: [blee-eee blar bloop]

Yadina: We're in California,

years later.

[gasps] And there's Bruce!

Xavier: What's he doing?

Brad: I can tell you what he's not doing:

breaking other people's crayons.

Brad/Xavier: [angry grunts]

Bruce Lee: I can see you're both angry.

Which is something we all feel sometimes.

But you are in charge of what your body does.

I used to get upset over things like

missing books or broken toys.

As I got older, those feelings got bigger...

Hong Kong, the place where I grew up, was colonized.

That means another country took control of it, and its people.

Chinese kids like me were treated unfairly, and unkindly.

Simply because of who we are.

It made me really angry.

I wanted to hurt someone.

But not with fists.

[deep inhale]

[long exhale]

Xavier: That sounds awful.

Bruce Lee: Instead of fighting, I started doing gung-fu.

A type of martial art that uses special poses and movements.

Gung-fu helped me

use my big feelings in a positive way.

[kicking grunts]

I realized I couldn't control what was happening around me,

but I am in charge of what my body does.

Now, by teaching gung-fu,

I'm helping more people use their emotions

in a positive way.

Brad: How does gung-fu use emotions?

Bruce Lee: Well, when I have a strong emotion,

I let myself feel it through my whole body.

Then I focus the feeling into every single movement.

Like this: deep breath in...

[deep inhale]

Brad/Xavier: [deep inhale]

Bruce Lee: Then channel your anger

into the breath you blow out.

Brad/Xavier: [long exhale]

Brad/Xavier: [deep inhale] Bruce Lee: Being in control

of how your body moves

is a beautiful and powerful thing.

And, focusing on your movements gives you time

for those BIG feelings to shrink down a little.

Xavier: I think, you're right, Bruce.

I don't feel so mad anymore.

Brad: Me, neither.

Xavier?

I didn't mean to break your track.

It was an accident.

I'm sorry.

Xavier: I know, Brad.

I'm sorry I broke your crayon.

It was not okay to do that, just 'cause I was mad.

[hopeful] Friend hug?

Brad: Yea, friend hug.

Yadina: I love hugs!

[kicking grunt]

Bruce Lee: Happy to help!

Xavier: Berby, let's go home.

Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Xavier: This and...

Brad: Thanks, Xavier.

around the whole world.

Brad: He inspired.. ufff..

a lot of people to try martial arts

and find positive and beautiful ways

to express their emotions.

Even the big tough ones.

Yadina: Who used to be a kid, just like you and me.

Brad: So kids like you can change the world!

Yadina: I am Yadina.

Xavier: I am Xavier.

And I know that I am in charge of what my body does.

Bruce Lee: Ha!

Xavier: Hi there! Welcome to the show!

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Today we're meeting someone who came from a street

kinda like this one...

Brad: Sonia Manzano!

Xavier: Sonia is a storyteller and actor,

who played Maria on Sesame Street.

Brad: Sesame Street is a TV show that's been on

for over years!

And has helped kids all over the world

learn letters and numbers

and a whole lot more.

Yadina: Now, it's time to start our show...

[click] [zap]

Yadina: Ah! There's nothing more delicious

than a cheese and grape jelly sandwich,

is there Dr. Zoom?

Aaaah-- oh!

[smacks] Mh-mh-mhhh!

[gasps] But as soon as I eat this one, and brush my teeth,

I have to go...

[terrified] to the dentist!

But...if I never eat my sandwich,

I'll never have to go!

Oh, but how can I resist

this delicious sandwich?

I must eat it, but if I do,

I must go to the dentist!

[frustrated sigh] Ahh!

Xavier: [eh-em] But our dentist is great!

She has a cool fish tank, big squishy chairs,

and she gives out toothbrushes

with racing stripes on them!

Brad: I think I wanna go to the dentist...

Yadina: That stuff IS great.

But when I sit in that chair,

with my mouth wide open,

and the bright light shining down in my eyes,

I feel all weird and... butterfly-y.

Brad: I feel anxious like that sometimes too.

But it's not like you can just

skip going to the dentist.

Yadina: [gasps] I just need to convince Mom and Dad

to let me skip going to the dentist!

And I know exactly where to go for help!

Xavier/Brad: [gasp]

Yadina/Xavier: To the Secret Museum!

Brad: [groans] Yadina: [smacking/chewing]

Brad: Hey, wait for me!

♪

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Brad: And wheeeeennn?!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Woohoo!

Brad: Hnh!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blar bloop]

Brad: Ufff!

Xavier: [humming]

We're getting something!

Yadina: Wha...? Brad: Well...

that's a...

different something.

Yadina: I hope it's not a dentist office!

Xavier: Look! Sonia Manzano.

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: And THAT'S where we're going to meet her:

New York, in .

Brad: That's almost, um...

years ago!

Yadina: I wonder how Sonia Manzano

can help me get out of going to the dentist.

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure?

Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Maybe Yadina was right:

if she never eats her sandwich,

perhaps she'll never have to go to the dentist!

Yadina: Never eating cheese and grape jelly sandwiches again,

is NOT an option.

Brad: [sighs] Okay...I'm ready.

Berby: [whirring]

[bloop, blee blarp!]

Yadina: Here we go!

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Woohoo!

Brad: Whoaaa!

Berby: [blee blee blar bloop!]

[zap]

Xavier: Huh! So this is New York City in .

It sure is busy...

Brad: Yeah, and pigeon-y.

Oh! Shoo! Shoo-shoo!

Xavier: Whoaaaa!

Yadina: How are we going to find Sonia Manzano?

Sonia Manzano: [sighs/mutters]

[to herself] I wanna go to my friend's birthday party!

Berby: [whirring] Sonia: But my dress

won't get used for a really long time,

and I have to find someone else to give the present to.

[sighs] Berby: [burrs]

Xavier: There! That's Sonia Manzano.

Yadina: And the building from The Secret Museum.

Brad: Hm, Sonia doesn't look very happy.

Xavier: Hi! Sonia?

Are you ok?

Sonia: I'm annoyed that I don't get to go somewhere...

my friend's birthday party!

I had my dress picked out,

the present wrapped and everything.

But, my dad says the party is too far away,

and he and Mami are busy working.

It feels so unfair!

[frustrated sigh]

Yadina: Missing a friend's birthday party

is sooo disappointing.

Brad: Maybe there's a way to change your dad's mind?

Yadina: Like how I'm hoping to change my parent's mind

about going to the dentist!

Sonia: Not this time. [sighs]

But, I do know one thing I can do...

make up a story!

Xavier: How can making up a story help you go

to your friend's party?

Sonia: It won't!

But, telling stories can help manage big feelings.

It's like taking a little vacation in your mind.

And when you come back, your big tough feelings

don't seem so bad.

Yadina: A vacation in your mind?

Like going to the beach??

Sonia: [laughs] Sort of.

I'll show you!

Everyone on this street has a story,

we just have to find it.

Brad: Um, do the pigeons have to be part of it?

Yadina/Sonia: [giggle]

Brad: [off screen] Shoo please!

Sonia: Ehm-ehm! This is the story

of the delivery truck that got stuck.

It begins with a happy little truck,

out making deliveries.

Xavier: [as truck] Tu-tu-do-do-dooo!

What a sunny day for deliveries!

Sonia: When suddenly, [gasps]

ka-thunk!

The truck rolls over, into a pothole!

Xavier: [as truck] [gasps] I'm stuck!

But I have an important delivery to make!

Heeelp!

Sonia: A brave shoe-shine kid

springs into action.

Sonia: [as shoeshine] to polish your wheels,l ust

making 'em nice and slippery,

so you can slip right out of the hole.

Tu-tu-do-do-dooo!

Xavier/Sonia: [giggle]

Xavier: [as truck] [laughing] Hey! That tickles!

Sonia: [as shoe-shine kid] There! That should do it!

Xavier: [as truck] [grunting with effort]

Sonia: The truck is still stuck!

So the fruit cart vendor tries to help.

Yadina: [as fruit vendor] I know! You just need some fruit

for energy to rev your engine

and muscle your way out of the hole.

Sonia: [V.O.] The vendor gives the truck

all the plantains, mangos and coconuts.

The truck gobbles them up, [smacking sound]

then gives their engine a strong rev!

[revving sounds]

[grunting effort]

The truck is still stuck!

Xavier: [as truck] You don't happen to have any

rocket boosters in that cart, do you?

Sonia: Next, the train chugs over to see

if he can help push the truck.

Brad: [as train] Never fear: the Brad Train is here!

Choo-chooo!

Sonia: The train pushes and pushes,

and wouldn't you know it,

the truck does start to move a little...

Brad: [as train] I think if we all work together,

this truck can finally get unstuck!

Sonia: Everyone joins in together,

the shoeshine kid,

the fruit cart vendor,

[giggles]

even some pigeons!

Brad: [as train] [terrified] Pigeons?!

Sonia: [giggles] That's right!

They all push and push!

All: [pushing efforts]

Push! Push!

Sonia: [V.O.] Until...

[revving sound]

Xavier: [as truck] I'm free!

Thank you, thank you! All: [cheering]

Xavier: [as truck] Yes! Finally!

Now, I can go make my delivery!

It's for a party.

How about you all come with me?

All: [excited cheers]

Brad: Hey! Shoo! Shoo-shoo!

Sonia: The truck opens wide

to reveal its very important delivery:

the birthday cake!

All: [cheering]

Sonia: The end.

Brad: [giggles] That was a great story!

I even forgot about the pigeons.

Woah!

Ah, I remember now.

Sonia: [laughs] Thank you!

[to camera] I think it was even good enough to be on TV.

All: [giggles]

Xavier: Totally! It looks like you're feeling better, Sonia.

Sonia: I am!

Telling stories can really

help manage big feelings.

In a way, I did get to go to a party.

Yadina: And I stopped feeling anxious

about visiting the dentist...

I wonder if storytelling

can help my big feelings

when I'm at the dentist, too?

Xavier/Yadina: Bye! Brad: Bye-bye!

Yadina: Berby, let's go home!

Berby: [blee blee blar blar]

Yadina: Xavier? Brad? We're back!

Xavier: I'm proud of you for facing your big feelings

at the dentist, lil' sis.

Yadina: Thanks!

I made up a silly story

that helped me feel better:

Dr. Zoom goes to the moon!

I was almost sorry when the dentist was done.

[gasps] A cheese and grape jelly sandwich!

We should share!

Brad: Um... Dr. Zoom can have ours.

She's clearly hungry.

Yadina: Riding to the moon on a toothbrush

really works up an appetite, huh Dr. Zoom?

Trio: [giggles]

[zap]

Xavier: It was so fun telling stories with Sonia Manzano.

Brad: When Sonia grew up,

she kept on telling stories

as an actor and writer

on Sesame Street!

Yadina: Sonia was one of the

first Latinas to appear

regularly on TV's in America,

and that helped kids who look like her

feel like their dreams were possible too!
