Berby: [whirs]

Brad: Looks like you could use some water.

Berby: [whirs] [water dripping]

Xavier: Anyone order a little sunshine?

Yadina: Ahh, that's better.

Today we're meeting someone who loved nature

ever since he was a kid:

Dr. David Suzuki!

Xavier: When David grew up,

he became a scientist and a teacher,

dedicated to showing people the wonders of Earth

and how to better protect it.

[landing grunt]

Brad: And now it's time for us to start the show!

Xavier: --gonna come, in the baggy-oh!

Yadina: I'll put this in the trash.

Xavier: Into the garbage. Yadina: Look how much there is!

[clink, clunk] ♪

Xavier: Well. That's this year's Earth Day clean up.

You're welcome, Earth!

Yadina: Xavier, it's been minutes.

It's Earth DAY,

not Earth half-an-hour.

Brad: Plus, I like these!

Makes me feel like I have

SUPER-extendo-arms!

Xavier: Ah, just come on.

I have to show you the BIG SURPRISE I've been working on.

♪

[giggles] Ta-DAAAA!

A bigger, better clubhouse!

New places to sit, video games to play,

and we won't run outta power!

[video game sounds]

Brad: Oh no...

Yadina: Ugh! That smell is not the best!

Xavier: That's probably the garbage hole.

Brad: The garbage what now?

Xavier: It makes tidy time a breeze...

which means more playtime for us!

Yadina: But, weren't there flowers here?

Brad: [off screen] And birds and butterflies and-

Xavier: The great outdoors is big.

This is our spot now.

As for the smell..

[fan whirring] Problem solved!

[splat] Brad: Uuuh...

This doesn't feel or...

[sniffs]

smell right.

Yadina: Brad's got a point. This is a problem.

Brad: Oh no!

Eeeew!

Yadina: [gasp] And that means...

To the Secret Museum!

[running grunts]

[clicking sound]

Brad: [giggles]

Xavier: Woah!

I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Woohoo!

Yadina: Or how far back in time we'll goooo!

Brad: I'm gonna find some stairs--WOAAAAH!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Woohoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby. Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby. Berby: [blar bloop]

Brad: Uff!

Xavier: [humming]

Berby: [blar blurp]

Xavier: We're getting something!

Yadina: It looks like...

a fishing rod?

Xavier: [gasp] That would be great for the clubhouse.

I could fish for snacks without having to get up.

[computer whirring]

David Suzuki.

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: In British Columbia, Canada, in the year .

Brad: Huh...that's uh...

Over years ago!

Yadina: I wonder how David Suzuki

can help us fix our clubhouse?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Ready... to never smell that smell,

EVER again.

Phew.

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Here we go!

Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: It's happening. Yadina: Hang on, Dr.Zoom!

Xavier: Woohoo!

Brad: Wooooah!

Berby: [blee blee blar bloop!]

[zap]

Xavier: Uuh, woah!

So this is British Columbia in .

Yadina: Wow!

Xavier: It's-

Yadina: Beautiful!

Brad: Huh?

[to Berby] Hey, is that...?

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: [hushed] Yes! That's David Suzuki.

Xavier: And the fishing rod from the Secret Museum!

Thanks, Berby.

Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: Hi there!

David Suzuki: Are you here to fish, too?

My dad's been teaching me.

But I haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

I love being out in nature:

drinking clean water from the lake,

eating only what we catch,

and breathing in all the fresh air.

[deep inhale]

[long exhale]

Yadina: [deep inhale]

Ahhh...

Way fresher than at our clubhouse.

David Suzuki: We have trees to thank for that.

They're not just for climbing!

Take a deep breath in.

[deep inhale/exhale]

You're inhaling oxygen.

When you exhale, you release carbon dioxide.

Now it's the trees' turn to inhale the carbon dioxide,

and exhale oxygen.

That's how the Earth gives us

all the clean air we need. Brad: [holds his breath]

[long exhale]

Neat!

David Suzuki: And it's OUR job to protect them.

When we take care of the Earth,

we take care of ourselves, too.

Xavier: [to himself] Hm...when we take care of the Earth,

we take care of ourselves.

[starts raining]

Huh?

Yadina: [gasps] It's raining, Dr. Zoom!

[rain falling]

Brad: But, we're dry.

Xavier: What?

Uhh...

Brad: Thanks for the natural umbrella, tree.

David Suzuki: And thanks, rain!

Rain is the Earth's way

of giving us fresh water

to fill our rivers and lakes.

Ahhh, so refreshing!

Xavier: I have something that's pretty refreshing: granola!

Mmmmm...

Mmmmm! This is good!

Uhm..

[nervous giggle]

David Suzuki: Garbage doesn't exist in nature,

so my dad and I

try not to leave any behind.

I'd rather the Earth use water

and sunlight to grow food.

Brad: Just like carrots!

For carrot muffins!

Yadina: [off screen] And grapes! For grape jelly.

Xavier: Huh.

So, the Earth gives us all the air, water,

and food that we need?

David Suzuki: Yup!

And if we want to keep it that way,

we have to take care of it.

When we take care of the Earth,

we take care of ourselves, too.

Oooh, speaking of tasty food from the Earth,

I should go help my dad catch a fish for dinner.

See ya! Kids: Bye!

Xavier: I never thought about how the Earth gives us SO much.

But, how can we take care of it?

We're just kids!

And what does any of this have to do with our clubhouse?

Berby: [blar bloop]

Yadina: I think Berby wants to show us.

♪

[zap]

Xavier: Woah, the same place, years later?

Brad: Where are all of the trees?

Yadina: And where did this road come from?

[off screen] Or-or those buildings?

Xavier: [gasp] There's David!

David Suzuki: [Sigh] Xavier: David!

Is this the same place you went camping with your dad?

David Suzuki: It is.

But it's changed A LOT.

So many trees were cut down.

It hurts the animals who use them for food and shelter.

And it hurts US.

[Sigh] Oh no.

You see?

Xavier: [gasp] That's my bag?

[gasp] It's been here for years?!

Woah, what we do really does make a difference.

And I wanna make a good difference!

David Suzuki: You see, when we take care of the Earth,

we take care of ourselves, too.

Yadina: But, how do we take care of the Earth?

Xavier: It's so big,

and we're so...

small.

David Suzuki: By living every day like it's Earth Day.

And doing simple things,

like leaving the Earth the way we found it.

Without trash on it.

Xavier: Thank you, David.

I have to get home. Fast!

David Suzuki: Good luck! Take care of the Earth!

Xavier: We will! Brad: Bye bye!

Xavier: Berby, let's go home.

Berby: [blee blee blarp]

[zap] ♪

Xavier: Ahhh.

That IS better.

Thanks for helping me clean up.

Yadina: Of course! We did it for the Earth.

And our noses!

Yadina/Brad: [laughing]

Xavier: [giggles]

We'll need these for next time.

Brad: You mean next Earth Day?

Xavier: I mean next week.

Or, tomorrow!

Yadina: We'll be there!

Meeting Dr. David Suzuki was SUPER inspiring.

Brad: He started off as a kid

who just loved nature.

And he went on to help people everywhere

learn how to care for the Earth every day.

Xavier: Like using cloth, or other reusable bags,

instead of plastic ones.

Yadina: Or collecting rain water.

Brad: To water your garden.

Xavier: And most importantly:

learning more and sharing with others!

Who are we meeting again?

Oh riiiight, Esther Martinez!

Xavier: Esther was part of a Northern Pueblo tribe

in New Mexico.

Brad: When she grew up, she became an incredible

storyteller and teacher,

who loved to share her Indigenous Tewa language

and stories with people everywhere.

Yadina: Dr. Zoom and I can't wait to start the show.

Uh- where's the big red button?

Xavier: Hm?

[gasp] Found it!

Yadina: Perfect.

Now let's go!

Xavier: Hola, Abuela!

Abuela: Hola, Xavier and Yadina.

And Brad!

I'm so looking forward to seeing all of you.

Yadina: We're excited to see YOU too, Abuela!

We've got your visit all planned.

Xavier: I'll teach you the new tricks I learned

at the bike park.

Abuela: Oh... Yadina: Then,

we can have a pogo-stick hop off!

Dr. Zoom 'n me have been practicing.

Abuela: Oh I...

Brad: And I thought you could show me how to pump faster

on the swing set.

I'm ready to go higher.

Trio: [cross talking] Can we? Can we? Can we?

Abuela: [chuckles] That sounds like a lot of fun.

But I'm afraid my knee's been bothering me,

so I'll have to take it easy this trip.

Xavier/Yadina: [disappointed] Ohhh...

Abuela: But I'm sure you kids will come up with something fun

for us to do!

I'm on my way and I'll see you soon.

[blows kisses]

Xavier: [blows kisses]

Xavier/Yadina: Bye!

[tablet beeps]

[sad sigh]

Abuela can't do any of the fun stuff we planned.

Yadina: What are we gonna do?

Her visit can't be...

boring.

Xavier: [thinking] Hmmm...

[gasp] I think I know where we can get some ideas!

Brad: [grumbles]

Yadina/Xavier: To the Secret Museum!

Brad: [moaning] Ugh!

Wait for meeee!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

[cuckoo clock chimes] Brad: And when.

Yadina: Whoaa!

[cuckoo clock chimes] Bead: Uaaah!

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Woo-hoo!

Xavier/Yadina: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blee blarp]

Brad: Hi, Berby! Berby: [blar blap]

Brad: Uff!

Xavier: [humming] Berby: [bloooop]

We're getting something!

Brad: Ooh, shiny!

Yadina: [gasp] Maybe Abuela likes collecting pretty rocks?

[computer whirring]

Xavier: Esther Martinez!

That's who we're going to meet!

Yadina: In New Mexico, in .

Brad: Th- that's... uhm-

Over years ago!

Yowza.

Yadina: I hope Esther can think up something fun

to do with Abuela.

I know what you can do with your Abuela!

It's my Grandpa's favourite thing to do too.

Berby: [whirring]

Brad: Whoa!

Yadina: It's so... quiet.

[distant coyote howl] Brad: Agh!

Um, are you sure we're in the right place, Berby?

Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: This is New Mexico in alright.

Huh?

[sound of approaching wagon]

[horse neighs]

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: [off screen] And there's Esther Martinez!

Thanks, Berby!

[animal cries]

Brad: Yup-thanks-Berby-let's-go!

[panting]

All: Uaaaah!

Brad: [afraid] Uaaah!

Esther Martinez: [muffled grunt] Huh!

Brad: Eeeeh!

Uhhh, phew!

Hello!

Mind if we stand over here?

Esther Martinez: [in Tewa language] Bepowaveh!

Yadina: [whispers] Uh, I think we need the translator.

[click]

Esther Martinez: Welcome! I'm Esther,

but my family calls me P'oe Tsawa

which means Blue Water in Tewa.

Yadina: [curious] Tewa? Esther Martinez: Mhm.

The language some Puebloans,

like me and my grandparents, speak.

Grandpa: [grunts]

Esther Martinez: We're on a road trip together.

Xavier: I love road trips!

Where are you going?

Esther Martinez: To Ohkay Owingeh,

where my family is from.

But we're stopping here for the night.

[excited gasp] Want to join us?

It will be really fun.

Xavier: We'd love to. Yadina: Oh yes please!

Brad: Okie dokie!

Xavier: But um, what are we going to do?

Is there a bike park around here?

Yadina: Maybe some pogo sticks?

Brad: Or a swing set?

Esther Martinez: I don't think so...

But don't worry.

We've got everything we need to have fun right here.

Thehtay, Grandpa, can you tell us a story?

I love stories!

They can connect us to our family histories.

My favourite are Tewa legends.

Brad: I've never heard a Tewa legend before.

Esther Martinez: They're stories my family has been telling

for hundreds of years.

They teach us about the past.

And my Grandparents, tell the best ones.

So? What do ya say, Grandpa?

Grandpa: [chuckles]

Okay, P'oe Tsawa.

And I will tell you a story.

Xavier/Yadina/Brad: Alright! [giggles]

Grandpa: [ahem] This is a traditional Tewa legend

about grandmother Spider, hungry Coyote,

and how the stars came to be.

[off screen] Once upon a time, Grandmother Spider

lived in Ohkay Owingeh.

Sometimes, when the moon wasn't shining,

it would get so dark,

that Grandmother Spider couldn't see,

which made it hard for her to catch her food.

She sat one evening,

thinking about what to do.

Then she remembered,

somebody had brought her a bag of mica clay.

The mica sparkled, full of glitter,

and Grandmother Spider got an idea.

She thought, we do not have any stars in the sky.

Maybe if this glittery mica was scattered around,

the sky would get some stars and I could see.

So Grandmother Spider called on

all the animals from the area

to come and help.

Mole came forward first and said,

Esther Martinez: [as Mole] I can help you carry that bag,

wherever you want me to.

Grandpa: Grandmother Spider looked at the mole and said,

your walk is very slow.

You won't be able to get very far.

And then silver fox ran forward and said,

Esther Martinez: [as Silver Fox] I can help you.

I like to run in the bushes.

Grandpa: If you run through the bushes,

you're going to tear the bag

before it's ready to be scattered.

Now, only Coyote was left.

So Coyote came forward and said,

Esther Martinez: [as Coyote] I can take the bag for you.

Every night I get hungry and take a chicken

from a farmer to eat.

But I run so fast that I never get caught.

Grandpa: Grandmother took a looong look at Coyote,

and finally she said,

Okay Coyote, hold it tight!

And go as far South as you can.

Grandmother Spider gave Coyote the mica clay,

and he took off running.

Being a hungry Coyote,

he ran until he got so hungry,

that he couldn't run anymore.

Esther Martinez: [as Coyote] Hm, I'm hungry.

Grandmother Spider must have packed me some lunch...

Grandpa: He began to dig through the bag.

As he dug, all the glitter from the mica started to get loose.

Coyote kept digging until all the glitter started

UP into the sky...

where it landed.

Back at the creek, Grandmother Spider looked up

to see a bright, twinkling sky.

And that's where we got our stars.

Xavier: Wow.

I've never thought about where the stars came from before.

Esther Martinez: I love hearing stories that my grandparents

heard from their grandparents.

And someday, I can tell them to my own grandkids!

That's the beauty of stories.

They can connect us to our family histories.

Xavier: Huh. So, maybe

that's what we can do with Abuela...

Yadina: Ask if she has any stories!

Xavier: Thank you Esther, for the ah-mazing story!

Yadina: And Esther's Grandpa.

Esther Martinez: Have fun!

Yadina: Bye, Esther!

Xavier: Bye! Yadina: Thanks again!

Yadina/Xavier: Abuela!! Abuela: [laughs]

I'm happy to see you, too!

So what do you kids have planned for Abuela, hm?

Xavier: Can you tell us a story?

Yadina: Maybe one about our family?

Abuela: [gasps] Well I would love to!

Have I ever told you the story of how my grandparents,

your great, great grandparents, built this museum?

Yadina: Tell us please!

Abuela: They started this museum with nothing more

than a trunk full of antiques

they had collected from their own families over the years.

Xavier/Yadina: [gasp] Woah...

Yadina: Any glittery rocks?

Abuela: [laughs]

Xavier: Listening to Abuela's stories,

and learning about our family history-

Yadina: -was totally awesome.

Brad: And so was meeting Esther Martinez!

As she grew up, Esther worked hard

to keep her culture and her family histories alive.

Yadina: By teaching the Tewa language,

and by sharing the stories she heard when she was a kid.
