Yadina: Hello, and welcome to the show!

Today we're meeting the artist behind the world's

most teeniest, tiniest sculptures:

Willard Wigan!

Xavier: Willard's artwork is so small,

that you need a microscope

just to see it. Brad/Yadina: Uh?!

♪ [suspenseful music] Xavier: Huh?!

Berby! Berby: [blurp]

Xavier: Aah!

Willard Wigan's sculptures are supposed to be tiny, not us!

Berby: [blarp!]

[zap] Trio: Uaaah!

Xavier: [loud/deep voice] Ughh, too big!

[zap] Xavier: Uaaah!

Brad/Xavier: Ahh! Brad: Much better!

I wonder how he makes his sculptures THAT tiny?

Yadina: We'll have to start the show to find out...

Xavier! Brad!

My friend Ben made me a friendship bracelet

with these cool little elastics!

Xavier: Ooo! Brad: Wow!

Yadina: So now, I'm making some for you!

And Dr. Zoom.

I can get them done really fast.

Yadina: [rapid grunts][panting]

[boing!] Xavier: Uh!

Brad: Uah! Ugh!

Yadina: Whooah!

Xavier: [off screen] Uh, thanks...

But it doesn't really look like the one Ben made you.

Yadina: Hmm, you're right!

Yadina: I really want to make you bracelets,

but looping all these tiny elastics together is SO hard.

Xavier: You don't have to make us bracelets.

Brad: Phew! I guess, that means no time-travel today!

Yadina: Awww, it's a tiny chair!

[computer whirring]

Xavier: It must have belonged to him - Willard Wigan.

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: In England, in the year .

Brad: But that's um...

over years ago!

Yadina: I wonder how Willard Wigan can help me

make your friendship bracelets?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Ready for adventure? Yadina: Ready!

Brad: Why don't you try making

friendship rings instead? Huh? Huh?

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Here we go!

Berby: [blee blar bloop]

Xavier: It's happening! Yadina: Hang on, Dr. Zoom!

Xavier: Whoohoo!

Brad: Woaaah!

Xavier: So THIS is England in .

Willard Wigan: [off screen] Careful!

Xavier: Ooohh! Willard: The ants!

[to ants] Don't want anyone stepping on you.

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: That's Willard Wigan!

Thanks, Berby! Berby: [blee blee blar bloop]

Brad: So, uh, the ants...

friends of yours?

Willard: Yes! They may be small,

but small things matter.

Everyone deserves a proper home.

Even little ants.

Maybe I can build them a new home!

With these!

Yadina: We can help!

Willard: Great! You start the house,

and I'll make some things to go inside.

Yadina: Let's do it, Dr. Zoom!

First some walls, and...

[plop]

[grunting]

[loud plop of glue]

♪ [frantic music] Yadina: Ugh! Ugh!

Come on...!

[smash][splat] UGH!

This is just as impossible

as making friendship bracelets.

Willard: I'm not sure this chair will fit inside that.

Yadina: [gasps] The chair from the Secret Museum!

How did you make that?

Willard: Slowly.

Yadina: Uh?!

If I work too fast, I might make a mistake.

Slowing down can help me work carefully.

Brad: [gasps] Look!

[off screen] Willard did it!

Xavier: [giggles off screen] And the ants seem to like it too.

Willard: [off screen] I wonder what else I could make?

Maybe even smaller than this!

Yadina: [thinking] Hmmm.

Maybe the Secret Museum

wants me to make small things?

Berby: [blee blarp]

Xavier: Looks like we're about to find out.

[zap]

Brad: Woah.

[grunting]

Brad: Wow! Where are we? When are we?

Berby: [bleep blar bloop]

Xavier: Berby says we're still in England,

years later.

Willard: Oh. Hello again!

Welcome to my art studio,

where I make my sculptures.

Yadina: Uh, where are they?

Willard: Inside these boxes.

Xavier: You sculpted... a pin?!

Willard: Nope. My sculpture is ON the pin.

Brad: Huh? There's nothing there.

Willard: [chuckle] There's never nothing.

There's always something.

You've just got to look closely.

Xavier: Woooah. It's like the ant house you made!

But WAY smaller!

Willard: [giggles]

Which is why a family of dust mites moved in instead.

They're very cozy in there.

Yadina: How can you create art that's so...

itty bitty?

Willard: I use teeny tiny materials,

And tools I make myself.

Like a paintbrush made from an eyelash.

Yadina: But don't they take

FOREVER to make?

Willard: Mhm. But I'm autistic.

For me, it means I can focus on something

for a really long time.

Yadina: My friend Ben is autistic, too!

He's really good at making friendship bracelets.

I wanted to make some too, but it was SO frustrating.

Willard: I get it.

If I make even the tiniest mistake,

it can ruin everything.

Like using a bit too much paint,

pressing a little too hard,

or breathing at the wrong time.

Brad: You blew away your sculpture?!

Willard: Yeah.

But, slowing down

can help me work carefully.

So I can make art like this.

Yadina: [gasps] It's a T-Rex!

SO cool.

Xavier: We have one of those at our museum!

But it's a liiiiittle bit bigger.

Willard: [laughs] Well, this one isn't done.

I need to finish making the teeth.

Brad: Whoa! [gentle breathe]

Oh no! I blew away your sculpture!

Sorry, Willard...

Willard: It's okay.

It was an accident.

I'll make a new dinosaur tooth,

even sharper and scarier than the first one.

You can watch, if you promise to be

VERY quiet and VERY still.

Kids: [deep breaths]

Mhm!

Willard: [deep breath]

Brad/Xavier: [exhale/deep breaths]

Willard: [exhales]

It's done.

Brad/Xavier: [exhales]

Xavier: Ooopsie! Brad: Eeeh!

Xavier: Whoohoo! Willard: [giggles]

Yadina: Making the world's smallest

dinosaur sculpture was really hard.

But Willard did it by slowing down, so he could work

calmly and carefully.

Hmm...

So, maybe I can do that, too...

To make friendship bracelets!

Nice work on your T-Rex, Willard.

Brad/Xavier: Bye, Willard!

Yadina: Berby, let's go home!

Xavier: Great job on that bracelet, Yadina!

for the smallest handmade sculpture ever!

This might be one of Brad's all-time favourites.

Xavier: Uh- speaking of Brad... where is he?

Brad: Here I am!

Oh! Ugh! Aaah! [giggles]

And I am SO ready to meet

Maria Sibylla Merian.

She was an artist AND an entomologist.

Xavier: I know what an artist is,

but, what's an entomologist?

Brad: A scientist who studies insects.

Xavier: Cool! I wonder what insects she studied?

Beetles? Grasshoppers?

Brad: Let's start the show to find out!

Oaaah-uh-ah!

Brad: ...and one here.

Pat-pat-pat, pat-pat-pat.

Xavier: Ooh, are you covering eggs with dirt

to see if they'll hatch?

Brad: That would be neat, but

I'm doing something waaaay better:

growing flowers so I can start

my very own butterfly garden!

Xavier: That'll be ah-MAY-zing!

Brad: Oh yeah!

As soon as the flowers grow a bit,

I can take them home to plant in my garden.

And now, time to watch the magic.

Xavier: Uhh...

How long is it supposed to take?

Brad: Hmm...

maybe I can speed it up!

We'll put you here, to get lots of sunlight.

A little drink of water...

A little more fresh soil...

Okay, any minute now!

Hmm...

Okay, maybe a lot more! [big splash]

[grunting]

And light.

[grunts]

That will do it!

Xavier: Umm, sorry Brad,

but I'm pretty sure plants don't grow in a day.

Brad: But I can't wait for my butterfly garden.

There must be a way to make these grow faster.

Hmm...? Xavier: Yadina?

We have got to help Brad.

Yadina: Luckily, we know just where to go...

Xavier/Yadina: To the Secret Museum!

Yadina: Let's go! Brad: Uh-oh-uh!

Xavier: I wonder who the Secret Museum will send us to meet?

Yadina: And where we'll go?

Brad: And when?

Yadina: Look out below! Xavier: Whoohoo!

Uh-eh.

is telling me my flowers grew?!

That's who we're going to meet.

Yadina: In Germany, in the year .

Brad: But, that's over...

Yadina: I wonder how Maria can

help you with your plants, Brad?

Xavier: Only one way to find out...

Berby: [whirring]

Yadina: Here we go!

Brad: Whoa!

Yadina: Where are we? Brad: When are we?

Xavier: Berby says, we're in Frankfurt, Germany,

in the year .

Maria Sibylla Merian: [in German] Guten tag!

Xavier: [whispers] Hey...

Berby: [whirring]

Xavier: It's Maria Sibylla Merian!

Maria: [in German] Tut mir leid,

wenn ich Sie erschreckt habe...

Xavier: Huh?!

Yadina: It sounds like she's speaking German.

I'll use the translator.

[buzzing sound]

Maria: Hello! I was just painting

some of my mom's flowers.

And the butterflies around them!

Yadina: [off screen] Wow! That's so...

real looking!

Brad: I LOVE it!

It makes me think of the butterflies

that'll soon be dancing around MY flowers.

If my flowers ever grow, that is.

Maria: [off screen] [gasps] Ooh!

Brad: Huh?!

Yadina: What are you looking at, Maria?

Maria: I think it might be...

hmmm...an egg?!

Xavier: It's so tiny!

Brad: Awwww.

Yadina: Where did it come from?

Maria: Hmm-

Maybe one of these butterflies?

Or, it could've already been there,

when my mother brought these flowers home.

We'll have to wait until it hatches,

to find out what it is.

Brad: Wait until it hatches?

But, won't that take forever?

Maria: Not forever.

But a while.

It'll be worth the wait.

Brad: Hmm! Well, I do want to know what it is, so...

[sigh] Okay.

Maria: [giggles] Y'know, while you're waiting,

you can find ways to have fun.

Like drawing or painting!

Brad: Oh. Okay!

♪ [playful music] ♪

Maria: Everyone, come quick!

Xavier/Yadina: [gasps]

Yadina: A larva! Xavier: Whoa!

Brad: That's what laid the egg?

Maria: We won't know for sure what the insect is,

until this little guy grows up.

Brad: [groans]

MORE waiting? Maria: Yep!

But while we're waiting,

we can find ways to have fun!

♪ [playful music] [raining/splashing]

Xavier: Hey look, it made a cocoon!

Maria/Brad/Yadina: Ah! Ooo! Wow!

Brad: So, does this mean

it will change into a butterfly?

Maria: Only one way to know for sure...

Brad: Hm, more waiting!

But I really want to find out

what the insect is, so...

Mhm! I can wait a bit longer.

Maria: Oh!

All: [off screen] Whoa! Wow! Oh my!

Maria: Wow. It's a silk moth!

Xavier: [whispers] Like the one from the Secret Museum!

Brad: So that's what laid the egg!

A beautiful, fuzzy silk moth.

Hello, little guy!

Oh wow! You were right, Maria!

This was worth the wait.

Maria: [giggles] Yes!

And I'm SO glad I got to learn all about

the silkworm's life cycle.

From egg, to worm,

to cocoon, to fully grown moth.

I've never seen it drawn before.

[gasps] But I think this could be a great way

to study lots of insects.

Xavier: Woah, that's amazing!

Brad: Finding out what that egg was,

took a loooot of waiting.

But, we found ways to have fun,

and then, the waiting wasn't so bad.

Soooo,

maybe we can find ways to have fun

while we wait for my flowers to grow!

But, we've gotta go.

I have a butterfly garden to grow.

Maria: Sounds fun. Good luck!

Brad/Xavier: Bye-bye! Yadina: Bye, Maria!

I know you need to grow,

so take ALL the time you need.

Xavier: It was SO much fun meeting Maria.

Brad: Who liked butterflies as much as me!

Yadina: Maria loved art too.

She was one of the very first people

to draw the life- cycles of insects.

Xavier: It was a looong process

that took lots of patience.

Yadina: And lots of waiting!

Brad: But her work taught us about where insects come from,

what they eat, and the changes they go through.
