ELINOR: There you go, little plant.

Some nice, cool water for your roots. Mmmm. Drink up.

MR. RABBIT: Oh, morning, Honey Bunny.

Looks like you're doing your new job very well.

ELINOR: Mm-hmm. I love watering the plants.

I'm going to do it every day before I go to school.

MR. RABBIT: It's getting a little late. Why don't you let me finish?

ELINOR: No thank you, I want to do it all by myself.

MR. RABBIT: Don't you have a field trip today?

ELINOR: I do! Mz. Mole says we're going to a very interesting place.

I just have one more plant to water...

Huh?

It looks different from the other plants. Its leaves are all spiky.

Hrrgh!

MR. RABBIT: Need a lift?

ELINOR: I really want to- uh! Do it -huh! Myself.

But I guess I can't.

[giggles]

I wish there were another way I could water you, little plant.

Thanks Dad.

MR. RABBIT: I'm happy to help. Um... field trip?

ELINOR: [gasp] Okay, bye Dad. Mwah!

Bye plants!

ARI: Hi, Olive. Planning to do some drawing on our field trip?

OLIVE: Yup. I want to remember everything that happens.

ARI: Hmm. Maybe I should try that.

Then maybe I'd remember to clean my room.

KIDS: [giggles]

OLIVE: Where's Elinor?

ARI: Don't worry. She wouldn't miss a field trip.

Any second now, she's gonna hop up and say...

ELINOR: I'm here!

OLIVE: Elinor. You made it.

ELINOR: I hopped as fast as I could. I didn't want to miss this field trip.

ARI: Told ya.

OLIVE: Why did you have to hop so fast to get here?

ELINOR: My mom and dad gave me a new job: to water all the plants in the house.

It took longer than I thought.

OLIVE: That's an important job. Plants can't live without water.

ELINOR: Mmhmm. But... there was one plant that was too high for me to water.

My dad had to help me reach it.

OLIVE: Maybe there's another way you can water it.

ELINOR: That's what I keep thinking.

MZ. MOLE: Okay, kids.

Today we're going to a very special place, where there are lots of different kinds plants.

OLIVE: Is it a giant garden, Mz. Mole?

MZ. MOLE: It's... A Cloud Forest.

ARI: I've never seen a forest of clouds before. Are the leaves all puffy and white?

ELINOR: [giggle] I don't think the forest is made of clouds, Ari.

MZ. MOLE: Let's find out. Hop on board.

Next stop, the Cloud Forest! Here we go!

KIDS: [cheers] Yeah! [giggles]

ARI: We must be close to the Cloud Forest. We're up really high!

KIDS: Whoa! Awesome! Oh! Wow!

OLIVE: Why do we need rain ponchos, Mz. Mole?

ARI: Yeah, I thought we're going to a Cloud Forest, not a Rain Forest.

MZ. MOLE: You'll see. Follow me. [chuckles]

ARI: I see a forest, but I don't see any clouds.

OLIVE: Stay there, Ari. I'm going to draw you.

[giggles]

MZ. MOLE: Just wait a moment. Aha! Here we go.

KIDS: [amazed] Whoa! Wow! What's going on? Whoa! What's going on? Whoa! Oh my gosh.

ARI: Hey. Where did everybody go?

OLIVE: I can't see anything.

ELINOR: You're right Olive. It's like we're... inside a cloud.

ARI: Oh, there you are. That was amazing!

ELINOR: Were we really inside a cloud, Mz. Mole?

MZ. MOLE: We sure were!

ARI: My mom always says my head is in the clouds, and just now it actually was!

KIDS: [giggles]

MZ. MOLE: This forest is so high up in the mountains, some clouds form and move right through it.

OLIVE: So now we know why it's called a Cloud Forest.

ELINOR: Look. I'm covered in water. My rain poncho's all wet!

SILAS: Haha! Mine too!

ARI: Why are we all wet, Mz. Mole?

MZ. MOLE: Why do you think, kids?

ELINOR: Hmmm... We weren't wet before the cloud came through...

so the water must've come from the cloud.

MZ. MOLE: [claps] Mhm.

OLIVE: I read about this in my Nature Book.

Clouds are made of tiny drops of water- and some dust. But mostly water.

MZ. MOLE: That's right. It's also called “mist”.

ARI: A-ha! So we solved the MIST-ery!

KIDS: [giggle]

OLIVE: Oh no. Look at my drawing.

ARI: It got soaked. Now I look all fuzzy.

OLIVE: I really liked that drawing of Ari.

MZ. MOLE: Okay, now that you know why it's called a Cloud Forest,

would you like to walk around in it?

KIDS: [cheer] Woo-hoo! Yeah! [giggles]

MZ. MOLE: Don't go too far.

OLIVE: I've never seen so many cool plants. Everything is so green.

ARI: Yeah, even the rocks are green. Look!

OLIVE: Whoa, I'm gonna draw it.

ELINOR: A green rock? I've never seen that before. Let's take a closer look.

Hmm. I don't think the rock is green.

It's covered with little tiny plants. I see itty bitty leaves.

ARI: What kind of plant lives on a rock?

OLIVE: I'll look it up in my Nature Book.

Aha! It says it's called “moss”. It's a tiny plant that can grow on rocks.

ELINOR: But how can it grow on a rock? I thought all plants grew in soil.

That's how they get their water, right?

Hmm...

ARI: It's a mystery.

OLIVE: You mean ... it's a MOSS-tery.

KIDS: [giggles]

ARI: Look. There's another cloud coming.

OLIVE: Watch! I'm going to disappear right before your eyes!

KIDS: [giggles] ELINOR: Me too!

ARI: Whoa!

OLIVE: Oh no. My drawing got all wet.

ARI: Aww. Sorry Olive.

OLIVE: That's okay. Maybe we'll find some other things I can draw.

ELINOR: Yeah. Let's keep exploring.

C'mon. We need more observations!

SILAS: There are so many plants growing everywhere.

ARI: Yeah. This one's growing on a branch!

ELINOR: You're right Ari. That is SO interesting!

OLIVE: I'm going to make a drawing.

ELINOR: Oh, this plant is just like the one I couldn't reach this morning.

It has the same spiky leaves.

ARI: It looks like it's growing right on the tree.

ELINOR: How can it grow without any soil? Where do the roots go? Let's look closer.

OLIVE: Huh. The roots stop on the trunk.

They don't go to the ground.

ELINOR: I don't get it. Then how does it get water?

My mom's spiky plant at home needs watering every day.

ARI: Uh oh. Incoming cloud!

ELINOR: Hmm...

OLIVE: On no. My drawing.

Every time a cloud comes through, my drawings get soaked.

SILAS: Everything gets soaked.

ELINOR: Huh? Everything. The plant on the tree...

ARI: And the moss on the rock.

ELINOR: They must all get their water...

KIDS: From the clouds!

[giggles]

MZ. MOLE: Hi kids. Sounds like you discovered something while looking at that airplant.

ELINOR: Oh. So that's what it's called: an airplant.

OLIVE: Mz. Mole, you said that clouds are made mostly of water... Just like mist.

MZ. MOLE: Correct.

ELINOR: So... we realized that, in the Cloud Forest, some plants don't have roots on the ground.

So they get water from the clouds.

MZ. MOLE: That's right!

Plants like mosses and airplants get water in lots of different ways.

From the soil, through their roots, and also from the air, through their leaves.

And in a Cloud Forest, there's water everywhere!

KIDS: [singing]♪♪♪ Some plants don't have their roots in the ground,

But they still get water, don't frown.

Cause when there are clouds hanging around,

There's lots of water to be found.

‘Cause...

ELINOR: [singing] So when it is a cloudy day,

OLIVE: [singing] The plants all smile and shout hooray!

ARI: [singing] Because they know water's on the way.

KIDS: [singing] The clouds will give them all a spray!

[giggles]

ELINOR: I love the Cloud Forest.

ARI: Me too. Except it's too bad Olive's drawings got wet.

OLIVE: No, I love them! They look like they're inside a cloud, see?

They're all fuzzy.

Now I'll always what happened today.

ARI: Yeah, getting soaked with water by the mist was fun.

ELINOR: And ... I think it helped me solve my plant problem!

MR. RABBIT: Need some help watering that plant up there again?

ELINOR: No thanks, Dad. I know how to water it all by myself,

because of our trip to the Cloud Forest.

I learned that it's called an airplant,

and I can give it water the way it gets it in the Cloud Forest:

It just a little bit of mist!

MR. RABBIT: Whoa! Great job, Honey Bunny!

But I think you “mist” a spot.

ELINOR: Eeee! [giggles]

MR. RABBIT: [giggles]

ELINOR: You can't get me!

ALL: [giggles]

ELINOR: I'm over here!

[giggles]

ELINOR: "Crayon Quest"

ELINOR: And done. What do you think?

OLIVE: That's such a pretty Valentine, Elinor! Your Dad'll love it.

ELINOR: [giggles] I think so too.

ARI: I'm making one for my Mom.

OLIVE: Nice! Does she like dragons?

ARI: Of course! Who doesn't like dragons?

KIDS: [giggles]

OLIVE: Now I just have to make one for my Mom.

I give my Mom a Valentine with a red heart on it every year,

and she's saved every single one!

Where's the red crayon?

Ari, it's all used up.

Oops! Eh!

Aww. Oh well. Good thing we have more red crayons.

ELINOR: Uh oh. I don't see any more.

ARI: We did use a lot of red today.

OLIVE: But I really need a red crayon. It's my Mom's favorite color.

ARI: Don't worry, Olive, we'll get you another one from...

Um, where do crayons come from, anyway?

ELINOR: Oh - I know. We get them from Mr. Hippo's store!

OLIVE: Let's go there now!

ARI: Dragon, I'll finish YOU later.

The brave knight Sir Ari is going on a crayon quest!

Doot-do-da-doo!

KIDS: [giggle]

ELINOR: Let's go!

MR. HIPPO: Aww, I love you too, my Valentine...

[muffled voice]

No, I love you more!

KIDS: [giggles]

MR. HIPPO: Whoops - gotta go. Bye, my sweet Valentine! [kisses]

Sorry kids. I was just talking to Ms. Hippo. Can I help you find something?

OLIVE: Yes, please. I need one red crayon!

MR. HIPPO: Ah, let me guess. Is it for a Valentine card?

OLIVE: Mhm.

MR. HIPPO: Ooh, I'm sorry. I'm all out of red ones right now.

Seems like everyone needs them to make Valentines this week.

OLIVE: Oh, no. Now, where am I going to find a red crayon?

ELINOR: Well... Mr. Hippo?

Where do crayons come from before they get to the store?

MR. HIPPO: I usually get them from Mr. Beaver.

He makes them in his workshop.

OLIVE: Maybe we can get some from him?

ARI: Yeah! Let's go see if he has any!

MR. HIPPO: Good luck, kids!

ELINOR: Bye Mr. Hippo! Thank you!

MR. BEAVER: Hmmm... Kind and funny... funny... funny... [chewing] hmm...

OLIVE: Hi, Mr. Beaver.

MR. BEAVER: Aah! Uh, I was just. I — ooh good, I thought you were Ms. Beaver.

I'm writing a poem for her, but it's not quite done yet.

Ahem, “You're sweeter than an elderberry. And smarter a dictionary."

"Ms Beaver, you're so kind and funny."

"Will you be my Valentine...”

Ack! I — I can't think of a rhyme for funny.

ARI: Sunny! Runny! Oh! Bunny!

KIDS [giggles]

ELINOR: Mr. Beaver, Olive is kind of ‘stuck' too.

MR. BEAVER: Oh?

OLIVE: I need to finish my Mom's Valentine but I ran out of her favorite color crayon

and there's none left the store. Mr. Hippo said you make them?

MR. BEAVER: Oh, yes! My homemade crayons are very popular.

In fact, I was just about to make some.

Say, would you kids like to help?

ELINOR: Okay.

OLIVE: Yes, please.

MR. BEAVER: Well, this is the main ingredient of crayons. It's called ‘wax'.

Now, there are different kinds of wax. This one's made from palm tree oil.

ARI: I like how it feels. It's solid, but kinda soft, too.

MR. BEAVER: Now, try rubbing it on this paper.

ELINOR: It left a mark!

Oh, that's why wax is good for making crayons.

MR. BEAVER: Exactly.

OLIVE: It doesn't have much color though.

MR BEAVER: [chuckles] Not yet. But it will!

Now, the first step, is to heat up the solid wax until it melts into a liquid.

It gets very hot, so we need to careful not to splash.

Elinor, would you stir this for me while I put in some color?

ELINOR: Okay!

MR. BEAVER: I use powdered dye to turn it a nice bright color...

ARI: Whoa, it looks like a magic potion!

MR. BEAVER: [chuckles] Well, it's more science than magic.

Now, I take the liquid wax and pour it into my crayon moulds to give it the right shape...

then we let it sit while.

As the wax cools, it'll harden into a solid. Just like these ones I poured yesterday.

KIDS: Whoa! Wow!

MR. BEAVER: Now I put my labels on them-

And ta-da! [chuckles] Beaver's Best Crayons.

ELINOR: That is SO interesting!

OLIVE: It is! Mr. Beaver, do you think we could make some red ones?

MR. BEAVER: Of course!

I have some lovely red dye right here, and...

Uh- oh! [gasp] I'm so sorry, Olive. I'm out of wax.

And I won't any more until next week!

OLIVE: Oh... Thanks anyway, Mr. Beaver.

MR. BEAVER: Oh... Could you use a different color?

OLIVE: No. I always give my Mom a Valentine with a red heart on it. It's our tradition.

ELINOR: Don't worry, Olive. We'll get a red crayon somehow.

MR. BEAVER: [sighs] Well, if you find anyone who has wax, I'd be happy to make you some.

OLIVE: Thanks, Mr. Beaver.

ARI: Goodbye! Good luck with your poem.

MR. BEAVER: Bye, kids!

OLIVE: How am I going to finish the Valentine for my Mom?

ELINOR: Hmm. There has to be a way...

KIDS: Oof! Ack!

ARI: Maybe we should ask that alien?

ELINOR: Alien?

KIDS: [gasp] Ah!

ARI: [gasp] Ahhh! Oof!

ALIEN: [gasp]

ARI: Uh-oh, the alien is... COMING THIS WAY!!

KIDS: Farmer Bear!

FARMER BEAR: [chuckles] Hi kids! I'm just checking my apiary.

OLIVE: What's an apiary?

FARMER BEAR: An apiary is a place where you keep beehives! I raise bees to make honey.

Here, I'll show ya.

ELINOR: Wow. Look at all those bees!

OLIVE: ‘Apiary' I like that word.

FARMER BEAR: [gasp] And they've been busy. Follow me...

ELINOR: We need more observations!

OLIVE: Did the bees make this, Farmer Bear?

FARMER BEAR: Sort of! I built the frame, and the bees made what's inside it.

First they make this stuff called honeycomb.

Then the bees fill the little spaces with the honey they make... and close them up.

When we scrape it open...

ELINOR: That's SO interesting!

OLIVE: But - don't the bees need the honey, Farmer Bear?

FARMER BEAR: Don't worry, they make enough to share.

ELINOR: This honeycomb stuff reminds me of the wax Mr. Beaver was using to make crayons.

FARMER BEAR: Uh-huh. That's because it IS a kind of wax. Bees wax.

ARI: Bees make honey AND wax? Wow. Bees are AMAZING!

OLIVE: Hey! If beeswax is a kind of wax, could Mr. Beaver use it to make crayons?

FARMER BEAR: I don't see why not!

OLIVE: Do you have any extra wax right now?

FARMER BEAR: I do!

Here you go. And if you're heading to Mr. Beaver's, you can take him some honey, too.

ELINOR: Thanks, Farmer Bear! Let's go!

FARMER BEAR: [chuckles] Bye-bye!

MR. BEAVER: Hmmm... [chewing] Ms Beaver, you're so kind and funny.

Will you be my Valentine... tummy? [sigh] No, no...

ELINOR: Mr. Beaver! Farmer Bear sent you this honey, but most important, we found some wax!

ARI: Farmer Bear gave us some honeycomb wax from her bee farm.

OLIVE: Could we pleeease use it to make RED crayons?

MR. BEAVER: You bet we can. h*! One batch of red crayons, coming up! [chuckles]

[Timer rings]

OLIVE: It's time! They're cool!

MR. BEAVER: Let's see how they turned out.

OLIVE: [gasp] It works! Thank you, Mr. Beaver!

MR. BEAVER: [chuckles] My pleasure.

Elinor, Ari, you should have crayons too! Thanks for bringing the wax.

OLIVE: And thank you for making the wax, little bee. And for the honey, too.

ARI: [gasp] Mr. Beaver, I know what rhymes with ‘funny'. Honey!

MR. BEAVER: Honey. That's it!

Ms Beaver, you're so kind and funny-

Will you be my Valentine honey!

ARI: That's so... sweet!

KIDS: [giggles]

OLIVE: [giggle] Come on. We still have to finish our Valentines!

KIDS: Bye!

MS. ELEPHANT: Ohh! It's beautiful! Thank you, honey.

OLIVE: You can thank the bees, Mom.

ELINOR: Yeah, they made the wax that Mr. Beaver used to make the crayon.

MS. ELEPHANT: Really? Isn't that wonderful!

ARI: Bees are so cool.

OLIVE: Yup! So will you please ‘bee' my Valentine?

KIDS: [giggles]

MS. ELEPHANT: Aww, I sure will...

ALL: [giggles]
