♪ Yeah, we'll make it right on City Island ♪

- Welcome to Theater Street, class.

This is the part of City Island where plays, musicals

and stage shows are made and performed.

- [All] Wow.

- Enter stage left.

Welcome to Theater Street, little ones.

I'm world famous producer, Bill Le Play.

Do you have any questions for me?

- Do you make the show all by yourself?

- Sometimes it does feel that way, but no.

A play is a collaboration between lots of talented people.

Today I'd like to show you the best way I know how,

the theater.

- Yeah.

♪ My name is Terry Typewriter

♪ I write the words the actors say ♪

♪ My words all start with an idea ♪

♪ That I come up with in my brain ♪

♪ I type the words out onto paper ♪

♪ I'm what we call a script

♪ And then that's sent to a composer ♪

♪ So I can add some songs to it ♪

♪ Two, three, four

♪ La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la ♪

♪ That's how you make a show

♪ Then the director joins the team ♪

- I'm the director, I throw around some thoughts

like "What if we set the show in space?"

♪ And everyone's on roller skates ♪

- [All] Great idea!

- Let's do it.

♪ I bring on all sorts of designers ♪

♪ I build the sets

♪ I make the clothes

♪ And then the actors all get hired ♪

♪ And I tell them where to go

♪ Circle up

♪ La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la ♪

♪ That's how you make a show

- As the producer,

I oversee everything and make sure it all runs smoothly.

But as you can see, I can't do it alone,

and we can't do it without...

♪ Ushers, stage hands, props, concessions ♪

♪ Lighting designers, carpenters, dressers ♪

♪ Painters, accountants, dancers, assistants ♪

♪ Custodians, drivers, whatever this guy does ♪

♪ So many people working together ♪

- I'm the rope that pulls the curtain.

♪ La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la ♪

♪ That's how you make a show

- But there's one more thing that you need to make a show,

and that's the most important thing of all, the audience.

So give yourselves a big standing ovation.

- And scene.

- I can't wait to make a play.

- I'll be the world famous producer.

- I'll write the script. I have an idea about rainbows.

- I'll make the sets. We'll paint the town red.

- [Both] We'll make the music!

- I can see it now, "City Island: The Play: The Musical".

- And I'll be the audience!
