01x05 - The Case of the Stolen Slumber/The Case of the Moderation Mishap/the Case of the Not So Sly

Post by bunniefuu »

Did a word that's important to you go missing?

And now all you can feel, do, or think

is the opposite of that word?

Then call us!

-I'm Sly. -And I'm Gabby.

We're Word Detectives, and we solve...

[both] Word Mysteries!

Together, we run the Wordsville Online Detective Agency.

We'll find your missing word, fast.

-Not to mention, briskly. -And swiftly.

Yeah, we're really good with words.

[kids] Wordsville!

Sly, why are you still awake?

I don't know.

I tried counting sheep, sheepdogs, regular dogs.

But I still couldn't sleep.

So I got up and called you.

I couldn't sleep either.

Do you think this is a Word Mystery?

Maybe Artist Clay knows.

If we can't sleep, we might as well sleuth.

Word Detectives, I need your help.

Someone stole my sleep mask. Look!

[Sly] Huh. It says slumber.

Slumber is another word for sleep.

Uh-oh.

I'm getting messages from the whole town.

Me too. It looks like everyone in Wordsville is awake.

Please hurry.

An artistic genius such as myself

needs slumber to be creative the next day.

I know.

Why don't we combine this Word Mystery

with a virtual slumber party?

How can anyone slumber and party at the same time?

Well, you don't really slumber at a slumber party.

It's another word for sleepover.

You know, when you go to a friend's house

and try not to sleep.

That way you can stay up as late as possible,

having tons of fun.

There's nothing more fun than solving a Word Mystery.

I hope this slumber party is a short one.

Tell us exactly what happened and Sly will animate it.

[Sly] Recap time!

[Clay] I was putting away my art supplies

when Vet Wilder came by to request

I make a sculpture of his gerbil for the clinic.

Then, Singer Melody arrived to ask if I'd help her finish

a new song she'd promised to release

to all her fans tomorrow.

But I was sleepy,

so I said I couldn't help either of them

since it was bedtime.

I went to brush my teeth and when I got back,

they were both gone and so was my slumber mask.

And in its place, I found a tuft of fur

and a crumpled piece of paper.

[Sly] I'm taking screenshots for our case notes.

Good to go, Gabby?

Don't worry, Artist Clay.

We'll solve this case in the blink of an eye.

That means we'll solve it fast.

I hope so.

Time to start our case notes.

We know what happened.

Someone took Artist Clay's slumber mask.

Now everyone in Wordsville is awake,

which is the opposite of slumber.

We also know where it happened, the art studio,

and it happened when Artist Clay was brushing his teeth.

[Sly] The clues are some fur and a crumpled piece of paper.

[Gabby] Our suspects are Vet Wilder and Singer Melody.

And they can also be our virtual slumber party guests.

But we can't forget to find out who did it, how, and why.

Now let's stay up all night and party.

I mean, interview our suspects.

[animals chattering]

What's going on?

No matter how tired they are

and how many lullabies I sing them,

my animals are unable to doze off.

Even the animals can't sleep.

This is worse than I thought.

Vet Wilder, what were you doing at the art studio earlier?

I asked Artist Clay for a sculpture

of my gorgeous gerbil, Tango, to decorate the clinic.

I put her on the table to show how good she is

at staying still.

You want to see?

Aw, she is gorgeous.

Artist Clay said it was time to get ready for bed.

So I asked if he could stay up late because

I really wanted that sculpture.

But he still said no.

So we went home to get ready for bed.

But we can't sleep.

[dog barking]

And neither can any of my other pets.

They're not getting the rest they need.

Gotta go.

Time to put our thinking caps on.

Everybody needs a hat.

Fine.

Let's recap.

Vet Wilder wanted Artist Clay to stay up

and make him the sculpture.

And Tango the gerbil was right next to the sleep mask.

Suspicious.

But before we draw any conclusions,

we have to talk to Singer Melody.

Hey, Word Detectives.

What's with the party hats?

We're solving a Word Mystery

and having a virtual slumber party.

You know what would make our party even better?

Hearing your new song.

I'd love to play it.

But first I need to... ♪complete it.♪

And we need to complete this case.

What were you doing at the art studio?

I ran out of ideas for my new song,

which I promised my fans I would release tomorrow.

So I went to ask Artist Clay for help.

But he told you he couldn't help because he needed to sleep.

I thought I could convince him by singing what I had so far.

But it didn't work.

So I scrunched up the lyrics and threw them away.

What did you do after that?

I came back here to keep working on my song.

My fans are counting on me.

And I've been working on it all night.

And will stay up until morning if I have to.

♪ So gotta go. ♪

Singer Melody was also near the table.

Since that's where her crumpled up lyrics landed.

Now that we have all the facts, it's time to party.

With the case notes.

[Gabby] Both suspects had a reason to take the sleep mask.

Vet Wilder wanted Artist Clay to do the sculpture.

And Singer Melody needed his help to finish her song.

[Sly] They also both left clues.

The first from Tango the gerbil.

[Gabby] And the crumpled paper with the lyrics

that Singer Melody threw away.

Lyrics for the song she's still working on.

And is willing to keep working on until the morning.

[gasps] Sly, you thinking what I'm thinking?

This party needs snacks?

Oh...

You think it's time to solve this Word Mystery.

Let's do it.

Gabby, your gaming, and my snacking,

are in overdrive.

Think this is a Word Mystery?

Hold that thought!

[ringing]

Aaaah!

Sorry, Gabby. It's probably a Word Mystery.

I'll answer Athlete Glory.

Word Detectives, my timer's been taken!

This one!

[Sly] Your timer has the word "moderation" on it.

Yes, and ever since it went missing,

I've been stuck in a loop. Can you help?

It says here...

Like only having one snack, instead of a hundred.

Or only playing video games for minutes,

not three hours.

Or resting between exercises.

My timer reminds me of my favourite saying.

"Moderation in all things."

This is definitely a Word Mystery.

Athlete Glory, tell us what happened,

and I'll show us, while I snack.

[Athlete Glory] I was exercising when Artist Clay came to the gym

to repaint the basketball court lines.

I was supposed to help him,

but it wasn't time for a rest yet,

so he started without me.

Then Vet Wilder came in to drop off his dog, Zippy,

for me to pet-sit.

The next thing I knew, Vet Wilder, Artist Clay,

and my timer were gone.

Zippy was napping, and I was still exercising.

Gabby, were you just playing your video game again?

You were snacking. Anyway, I was listening.

Athlete Glory, can you show us the scene of the mystery?

I'll try, this is where I last saw my moderation timer.

[Sly] Uh, hold still.

Got it! We'll be in touch.

Please hurry.

Sly, it's time for our case notes!

We know what happened, someone took Athlete Glory's

moderation timer.

[Sly] And now everyone in Wordsville

is overdoing something.

We know where, the gym.

And we know that it happened when she was busy exercising.

Our suspects are Artist Clay,

and Vet Wilder.

Looking at the clues will help us figure out who did it,

how, and why.

[Sly] The paint trail leads out the door.

Was Artist Clay in a rush to leave?

Let's call him, and find out.

[ringing]

Word Detectives.

You're disrupting my creative flow!

[Gabby] We'll keep it quick.

Why did you go visit Athlete Glory today?

I was hard at work thinking up my next great art project,

when she called to remind me I had made a commitment

to help her repaint the lines on the basketball court.

Taking a break from work to help a friend

is a good use of moderation.

That's what Athlete Glory said.

She also said, "Moderation in all things."

And that taking a break from thinking about my art

might inspire me.

So I went to the gym.

What happened when you got there?

Athlete Glory was supposed to help me paint,

but she just kept exercising.

She said she'd stop when her timer went off.

Did that annoy you?

It did, so I started painting without her.

Then, suddenly, inspiration struck!

I had to get back to my studio right away,

So I could get to work on...

This! Vet Wilder's dog, Zippy, inspired my sculpture.

-Isn't he magnificent? -Totally.

So, do you know how the paw prints got all over the floor?

That was Zippy. Vet Wilder saw it, too.

Now, no more disruptions.

He was annoyed Athlete Glory didn't use moderation

to stop exercising.

Suspicious.

So suspicious, I could use another snack.

Not if I can't take a gaming break.

Let's see what Vet Wilder says.

[ringing]

[Gabby and Sly] Vet Wilder!

Uh, hello?

-Hey, Vet Wilder, talk to us! -Vet Wilder!

[sighs] Oh.

Hi, sorry, Word Detectives.

This show really sucks me in.

I can't stop watching. What's up?

Official Word Mystery business.

Why did you go to the gym today?

I needed a day off.

So I closed my vet clinic, and asked all my people friends

to pet-sit all my animal friends.

I dropped my dog, Zippy, off with Athlete Glory

at the gym.

Did anything strange happen there?

Not really.

I told her I was going to watch all the episodes

of my favourite TV show,

and she said I should work out with her first.

And told me, "Moderation in all things."

But I didn't want to work out.

I wanted to watch TV all day.

Did you see Zippy run through the paint?

Yeah, I'll clean the floor when I'm done watching

Seasons One through Six. Gotta go.

What did we learn from our suspects?

[Gabby] That Artist Clay did practice moderation

by taking a break from working on his art.

[Sly] Hmm, taking a break from work

is what Vet Wilder wanted to do, too.

You're right, that's why he asked his people friends

to take care of his pet friends.

But watching TV all day is not using moderation.

And he wouldn't let anything get in the way

of his TV time.

Not working out or cleaning up Zippy's paw prints.

Vet Wilder must really need a day off.

We took a break from video games and snacks, which means...

I'll bring one snack for each of us.

And we'll play video games for a few levels,

then maybe we can go to the park.

[Gabby laughs]

[ringing]

-Did you change your hair? -No.

Did you move stuff in your office?

Nope. Should I just tell you?

I guess so. Huh.

I'm usually more clever than this.

Sly is your name,

but it's also a word that means...

Exactly, and you weren't being clever

when you couldn't figure out that my jacket was missing.

I think without the word "sly,"

you're being a little too honest and blunt.

That's because honest and blunt

is the opposite of sly and tricky.

This is a Word Mystery,

I know, but if my name is gone,

does that mean I'm going to disappear?

Sly, that's not how Word Mysteries work.

Firefighter Ember, and Scientist Cosmo

We played a few rounds,

and Sly tricked Firefighter Ember and me

every time.

I told him Firefighter Ember took notes

when she was the trickster.

-But that was a trick. -Pretty sly.

Oh! I just wanted someone else to win one round!

It didn't matter who.

I was so upset, I clicked my clicky pen until it broke.

It usually helps calm me down.

-Not today. -Yikes.

Yeah, I came back here to relax with a new experiment.

What happens if you don't stop blowing up a balloon?

Wow, I wonder what will happen?

Did you see who took my jacket?

Well, I, uh-- [gasps]

Um...

Scientist Cosmo, you're on mute.

And then I left with Firefighter Ember.

The end.

What?

What do you think he said when he was on mute?

Who knows?

Let's go over the case notes to see if we can solve this.

[Sly] So we know Firefighter Ember and Scientist Cosmo

[Gabby] And they each left something behind.

[Sly] There's Firefighter Ember's notes.

And Scientist Cosmo's pen.

[Gabby] They were both frustrated about losing to you.

[Sly] And they both found a way to avoid answering questions

about my jacket.

You know, I feel like the answer is right in front of us.

They were both frustrated,

and they both said they left together.

And they both wanted someone else to win.

You both wanted me to be less--

Oh, what's the word? Uh...

oh, yeah. Sly.

-That's why you did it. -You caught us.

We were both so frustrated that no one else was winning.

So we slyly teamed up to make him less sly.
