02x02 - Phoenix is Rising

Post by bunniefuu »

- * Shadows casting
as I look over my shoulder *

[upbeat pop music]

- We have about three,
four, five hours

before we have to go
to the hospital.

* *

The baby is coming early.

I told my team that
the house is being fumigated

and that nobody
can come inside.

This is like the first time
that the house

hasn't been full of people.

Having that time together
with no one else around

is just really nice.

It just feels like a real home.

* *

When they bring you Phoenix,
you're going to be topless

and then you're gonna put
little Phoenix on your chest.

* *

- You're going to have
a little brother soon.

- We had to do
a lot of research,

especially because
we didn't tell anybody.

We were googling articles
on, you know,

checklist for things to get
before a baby's arrival,

the best detergents
and the best formulas.

So take out
what's in the washer.

- Which one is the washer?

Or are they all washers?

- Okay, empty.

[machine chiming]
Hey, Cutesy.

- All right.

So this says machine wash cold,
delicate cycle. Okay.

No, you leave those.
That's the dryer.

- All right.
I have to empty--

- Nope.
Just the bottom one.

[machine chimes]
- Of course, I know how.

[Paris sighs]
[machine chiming]

- Please, do what
you need to do, okay?

This is not good.
Bad boy.

* *

- We're going to leave this
house, just me and Carter,

and then come home
as a family of three.

It's such a special
time in my life

and one of the most important.

I'm just going to melt
and be so in love with him.

[music box playing]

- It's is very cute,
but you're out of time.

* *

- Careful, honey.

[soft dramatic music]

* *

- That's it.

Ah!

Our surrogate has her mom
in there to support her.

They asked me if I wanted
to go in, but I'm scared.

I think it literally all leads
back to Provo Canyon School

because they were so vicious
and sadistic.

Being abused in
a doctor setting has made me

have such post-traumatic
stress disorder.

So if I'm in there
I would be on the floor

not being able to breathe.

When you're giving birth,
it's so scary as it is.

I don't want the surrogate
being stressed out at all.

I just want her
to be happy and healthy

so that Phoenix
gets here safely.

Let's wash our hands.

- Can we come in?
- Just one second.

- Hold on.
- It'll be one second.

- [hums]

[door creaking]

- Meet your son.

- He is super tiny.

- Oh, nice.

- I was like, if Mommy--
if he pees on Mommy,

that's going to be a problem.

- This is his cord.

- Nope. Doesn't hurt at all.
- Oh.

[Phoenix crying]
Aw.

- I brought you warm blankets
to put on top of him.

- Thank you so much.

* *

[Paris chuckles]

- Aw.

Your first meal.
[chuckles]

- Yeah.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

[chuckling]

This is my first time
holding a newborn baby.

And I can't wait
for all the firsts.

His first smile,

his first word,
his first step.

I've just had so many dreams
of Phoenix

just playing with the animals
or going to Disneyland

and going to, like,
Taco Bell together. [chuckles]

- He is so beautiful.
So perfect.

I just feel like my life
is finally complete.

I'm so obsessed.

[Phoenix burps]
- Yeah.

- Yeah, buddy.

* *

[birds singing]

- Aw.

[Phoenix crying]
- Right there.

You're going to
have the best life

with the best mama and dada.

We're going to have
so many adventures.

And you're going
to be so loved.

* *

Aw.

[Phoenix coos]

- * If there were diamonds
in the sky *

* They could never compare
to your eyes *

- He's so precious.

He's like clamping
onto my hands.

[soft vocalizing]

* *

- * And I don't
want to go a day *

* Without you by my side *

- Uh, did you see how to do it?

[Phoenix coos]
Just take your time.

- Okay.
- Okay.

[Paris sighs]

[Paris chuckles]

- All right, Phoenix, you ready
for your forever home?

- It's okay, angel.

* *

Aw.

* *

Your other brother and sister
are in the kitchen.

- They're very excited.

I think they know
Phoenix is here.

[dogs yapping]

All right, baby.
Should we go see your room?

- Hi.
- He's so cute.

- So nice to see you again.

- Oh, look at this.
Show her Phoenix.

- The little angel.
[chuckles]

- Aw, he's so cute.

- Gena is our new baby nanny.

We met her because Carter's
sister Halle

just had her little daughter.

Gina's been doing this
for so many years

for, like, hundreds of babies.

Aw.

He's so precious.

I've never babysat
in my entire life,

because there was always
housekeepers or nannies.

So I am so grateful
to have Gena.

I feel like
I sound, like, spoiled

with my, like, oh, baby nanny.
[chuckles]

Like, most people will
just pretend

they don't have baby nannies,
but they all do.

- Look at how cute he is.

- He has a little milk.
[Phoenix whimpering]

Aw.
- I'm sorry, honey.

It's okay.
[smooches]

- The last feeding when?
- Uh, uh, 8:30?

- 11:30.
- Okay.

[Phoenix crying]

Did you bring the formula
with you?

- Yes.
Let's see.

- Hi, baby.
How are you?

And I just changed
his diaper too.

He pooped finally.
- Yeah.

- As we were leaving.
Did you have your first poop?

- Paris, you want to--no.

Well, did you change him
right before we left?

- Yeah.
So that was awesome.

I wanted when Phoenix
came into the world

for it to be calm
and no hectic energy

or have to have my son
deal with paparazzi

and people the second
he's in this world.

And now just to be home
with Carter and Phoenix,

this is why
we kept it a secret.

[chuckles]
Some hiccups?

What do you do
when they have hiccups?

- It'll go away?

When do we cut his nails?

I'm nervous for him
to scratch himself.

[Phoenix burps]
[Carter laughing]

- He's so precious.

I've never felt a love
like this before in my life.

I also feel kind of sad.

Usually when a baby's born,

you have your
whole family there

and everyone's, like,
celebrating.

And I'm surprised that we've
kept it secret for this long.

- Hopefully we get just like
a week or two just to

enjoy the moment
and just be by ourselves.

That's our goal, right?

- He looks exactly like me
when I was a baby.

- But in this way, they are
going to fall out of the tree.

They're going to--
what do we say?

Fall out of their chair?

But people are definitely
going to be shocked

when we call your family
and my family in ten days.

Surprise!

- I know.
I do feel bad.

- Yeah.
- I do. I feel really bad.

They're going to
be really hurt.

I feel really bad.

He's holding on so tight.
[Carter chuckles]

He won't ever let go.

- * Even in my darkest days *

Hi.
- Here.

- I'm new at this.
- Like that.

- Hi, baby.

- * You light up dark *

* Like a star falling
out of the sky *

- I'm so obsessed with him.

Hi, honey.

Do we burp him now?

- They taught me
at the hospital,

you put the hands under the
chin and then bend him over.

This way?

* *

So you put here.
Like this.

- Aw.
It's okay. No.

- It's okay. It's all right.
[Phoenix crying]

- Aw.

[Phoenix cries]

- He burps even if we do it
like that.

[Phoenix cooing]
Okay. It's okay now.

You want to go with mommy?

You'll be an expert soon.
- Aw.

He's so delicate.
Where's his arms?

Oh, they're roped.

[soft upbeat music]

Like that?
- Yeah.

- I have to go to
a photo sh**t today.

I'm doing the cover
of "Glamour" magazine.

So I'll be gone.

[Phoenix fusses]
Oh, no.

I think to like--yeah.

Because it's three covers,
all the inside photos,

and then I have to do
interviews.

- Skin-to-skin?
- Yeah.

- I want to do that
every single night

because I know
that's really important.

He was so sweet
last night with it.

He's a little cuddle bug.
[smooches]

Just like your dad.

This week, I've tried to
cancel as much as possible,

but there's two things
that I can't.

One of them is a cover sh**t

with "Glamour" magazine
and an interview.

It's about my new book,

and that was booked
several months ago.

I've worked so hard on
this book the past two years.

But I also don't want it
to look weird,

'cause nobody has any idea
about Phoenix.

So they're all really confused

why I'm saying no
to everything.

[sighs]

And, yeah, it's just a lot.

I'm already late.
I don't want to leave him.

- I'm good.

- Bye, baby.

Aw.
- Okay.

- I love your purple eyeliner.
It looks so pretty.

[Gena chuckles]

I'm supposed to wear that
today in the sh**t.

Beautiful.
Oh, I love you.

Kissy.
Bye.

- Good morning.

How's the mama?

- No, we're gonna start
with the--

- The one that sits over him.

Then, we'll work on
the teddy bear cams.

- Yeah.

- Okay.

- Perfect.

- With my baby,
this is the first time that

something is just mine

and not everyone else's
to talk about

or pick apart or...

I don't know.

It's just been really
important to me

to keep this a secret.

And the people that know me,
they would understand.

Or maybe when you watch
the show, you'll understand.

[chuckles]

But I just feel like
I've given my whole life

to everyone for so long.

I'm fine with that.

But now, I'm bringing another
human being into this world.

And I don't want him
to have to feel that way.

[upbeat music]

Thank you.
- You're welcome.

* *

- Got my first book review.
- [gasps]

- Yes. From?

"One of the world's most
recognizable personalities

"delivers a memoir with
surprising depth and purpose,

"delivering a masterclass
of owning your story.

"Hilton shows
how to live with purpose,

compassion, and beauty."

That's so nice.
- That's amazing.

- That's an incredible review.
- Yes.

My memoir's extremely--

I'll just draw that eye
on that.

[soft upbeat music]

My memoir is one of
the most real and vulnerable

and raw and honest things
I've ever done in my life.

Can I see a mirror, honey?
- Yes.

- It took a while
for me to even open up,

maybe seven or eight months.

But we really went there

and I felt comfortable
with the ghostwriter.

She was so lovely
and so sweet,

but it was so scary

just having to talk about
so many things that

I never wanted to even say
out loud.

It's just holding on
to so much shame

that should have never been
on me.

- Wait, you read it already?

- Well, I mean--
- Well, I mean?

- Pieces.

- [laughing] Right?
- Yeah.

- With the documentary,
it didn't have a real ending

because I wasn't
ready to talk about

so many things at that point.

There's so much more.

Now being an adult and a mom,

I feel like it's important
to tell the story

because there's so many
other girls out there and boys

who have been through
the same situations.

And it's important
for people to understand

that it's not their fault

and to not hate themselves

for things
that were done to them.

Can I see the questions
they're asking me?

Do you have the questions
that they have

before they cut questions out?

I just want to see
what they cut out.

- I feel like this is
the first time in my life

where I don't even care
about those type of people.

I just feel
so loved and supported.

And people cannot wait
for this book to come out.

I'm able to be myself.

And I don't know, I just feel
like I can finally be me.

[all cheering]

* *

[upbeat music]

[birds singing]

* *

- Hi, Crypto.

* *

Hello?

Carter?

- Yep.
I'm in here.

- Oh.

* *

- What's happening?

- [sighs] I just got back
from the interview.

- [smooches]
The "Glamour" interview?

- Mm-hmm.
- Nice. How was it?

- Intense.
- Yeah?

Just 'cause they asked--
the questions she asked?

Or just because you haven't
talked about it with anybody?

- I think it's just the first
interview of the book tour.

I didn't realize, like,

"Glamour" would be like that,
you know?

Because usually it's more like
a fashion magazine.

It was just us two alone.
No publicist. Nothing.

I had actually met her, like,
almost 20 years ago in Cannes.

And she showed me
an old picture of us

when we were, like,
on this yacht party.

But yeah,
she just really went deep.

Literally every single part
of the book.

Nothing was held back.
And I--

[sighs]

[soft tense music]

I-I don't know.
I just wasn't really prepared.

[Paris sighs]

* *

- Writing this book was
one of the most difficult

experiences of my life.

Writing about things that
I have never told anyone,

things that are even hard

to say out loud
as I'm sitting here.

- Yeah.

I talk about when
I was in the eighth grade

and I was groomed
by my teacher.

I talk about being r*ped
when I was a teenager.

Also an ab*rtion.

And I didn't even want to
put them in the book.

I just didn't want them to
be a part of my story,

any of those parts of my life.

And I really questioned

and went back and forth
with myself.

But with my new life
and my family and my baby,

I just don't want to

take any of that with me
into my future.

- Well, I'm proud of you.
I love you, kid.

- Yeah, love you.

- I'm sure you did great.

And I know how emotional
and tough it is.

By the way,
have you thought about Orlando?

- I just feel sad.
I don't want to leave him.

Poor Phoeny.

- Your team doesn't
know about Phoenix

so we can't exactly
explain it to them.

I'll take good care of him.
And we'll FaceTime you.

[Crypto growling]

- See?
He doesn't want me to go.

- Oh, you know don't want Mama
to leave either?

No, but I'm going to
take care of baby P.

- As part of my deal
with Hilton,

I have to go to
a charity golf tournament.

It's a personal appearance
as well as a concert

for thousands of people
that I'm headlining.

The last thing that I want to
do right now is leave Phoenix,

but this was planned

- You're a mom, but you're
also a businesswoman.

Like, if I had to go on
a business trip next week,

everyone would
totally understand.

- A lot of my little Hiltons
are flying in for it,

so I'll feel sad if they all
fly all the way there

and then I'm not even there.

I could just get a jet
and land,

do the DJ set,
and then fly right back.

- Okay.
- I just want to make sure that

the pilots will be able to
take off.

You know how sometimes
you land places

and they said the pilots
can't fly because it's been

a certain amount of hours?
- Yeah. We'll make sure.

- So I don't know if there's
other pilots when I land,

because I don't want to end up
getting stuck there overnight.

- I mean, the only
silver lining is if,

you go, then you're going to
miss his circumcision,

which I'm not sure
you want to see anyways.

[Carter chuckles softly]
- No.

I can't imagine seeing him
go through that pain.

I feel so sad for him.

They're doing it at the house?
- Yeah.

They're going to come to
the house.

- Are all these people
signing NDAs

so that they don't
tell people, like,

"Oh, I was just over at
the house, like..."

- I'll make sure I have them--
- Cutting his wiener off.

- I'll make sure that

he has his wiener cut off
with absolute privacy.

- Yeah.

[crickets chirping]

[upbeat music]

* *

- * Woke up this morning
to an angel *

* Big brown eyes
and a heart of gold *

[Phoenix burps]
- Oh. That's a big burp.

[Paris laughs]
[Phoenix coos]

Aw, I'll miss you.

[gasps]
Little snug as a bug.

[chuckles]
My little burrito.

I don't want to leave,
but I have to.

Fly there, and then
fly right back right after.

I feel really sad.

It makes me feel guilty
that I have to leave

and fly to go DJ somewhere
when my baby was just born.

The mom guilt is a real thing.

I never fully understood it
because I wasn't a mom.

I just don't want to
let people down,

but then also,
it just doesn't feel right.

I love you.

- * Uh, uh, uh, I *

* *

* This ain't make believe *

* All the pretty paper *

* I taste something sweet *

* Give me the sugar *

[phone line trilling]

- Hello?
- Hello. How are you doing?

- Good.
Just got to the room.

Just settling in.
You look handsome.

Did you get your hair cut?
- Haircut. Fresh do.

- I like it.
How's our baby, love?

- Aw.
Poor baby.

Are you on a call right now?

Or can you show him
on FaceTime?

I miss him.

- Okay, one second.
- [sighs]

I feel bad that I'm even here.

I would have totally
canceled this, but--

You're going to be so excited

when you come back
tomorrow night

and you get to see
the little bugger.

- Hi, baby.

Hi, honey. I love you.

[soft dramatic music]

I miss him so much.

I love you, baby.

- We're going to do
skin-to-skin later,

Phoenix and I.

I just did an hour
in the screening room.

- Did you put a heater
in there?

- Yeah.

- There's like the heater
in his room

and just kind of like
warm your hands there

because he hates cold.

Every time I wash my hands,
they're, like, cold,

and then he like screams if
you touch him with a cold hand.

- Okay.

I have to jump on a call
in two minutes,

but we got to figure out how
we're telling your family

and my family at some point
this week.

- Okay.

- And you have a look at

what we're doing
for an Instagram post.

- Yeah.
Okay.

Carter and I wanted
to keep Phoenix a secret

for as long as possible,

but I have my entire team
that works out of the house,

and they're starting
to get suspicious

that we're being so weird
about letting them in.

Obviously,
we're eventually going

to need to come back to work.

So I don't know how much longer

we're going to be able
to keep this secret.

- Only to me.

Love you.
- [smooches] Bye, dada.

[soft upbeat music]

[Paris groans]

* *

- Let's go, P.
- Let's do this.

* *

- So we're going to have
a 15-minute meet and greet.

* *

[laughter]

* *

I just want to do my work,
do the appearance...

Hi.
- Hey!

- Paris!
- Whoo!

- Do the DJ gig,
and get back to Phoenix

as fast as possible.

- Love you, Paris!
- Love you!

* *

[Paris chuckles]

[Paris laughs]

[crowd cheering]

[upbeat pop music]

[crowd cheering]

* *

- * Our time's
talking in circles *

* You're not making sense
no more *

* *

- Oh, good.

Does that mean he's going to
have an outie belly button?

- Hmm?
No.

- See, like mine goes in?
- It will go in.

- It will?

And they cut off the wiener?
- Mm-hmm.

[Paris sighs]

It's like banana.
They peel it.

- They peel
the little baby wiener?

- Yeah.
They peel the skin.

[Paris gags]
[Gena laughing]

* *

Oh, you were a tough boy.

Hi, angel.

- 6.5.
- Is that normal?

- Yeah.
He's eating good.

- Hi, baby.

[Phoenix sneezes]
- Oh, God bless you.

* *

Aw.

[soft dramatic music]

* *

Mommy rushed home for you.

[Phoenix coos]

I had a big concert last night,

thinking about you
the whole time on stage.

You cutie boy.

Mama doesn't like to leave you.

You just like to look at
everything, don't you?

* *

There's just such, like,
innocence in your eyes.

* *

Staring into my soul.

You're going to meet
your grandma this week.

- Tuesday.
- Oh.

* *

She's going to be in
for a big surprise.

Being a mom,
I'm feeling so many emotions.

I'm happy, I'm terrified,

I want to be kind,
loving, supportive,

where he can feel comfortable
to tell me anything.

Trust is priceless.

The whole world is going to
be in for a big surprise.

Obviously, my mom's
my role model in motherhood,

but our relationship
is complicated.

So we're going to
tell my mom first

because I know that
she's already

going to be upset as it is
getting surprised like this.

So at least if she's the
first person to find out,

maybe that will make it
a little better.

Mama has to go to bed.

And I'll see you
in the morning?

No more snippings
or anything weird.

- * There's no wall
I can't climb *

* No ceiling too high *

* When it's just you and I *

[suspenseful music]

* *

* *

[Paris sighs]

[Paris sighs]

[energetic suspenseful music]

* *

- sh*t.

Is there more of
my cookware line or anything?

- There's more.
We'll put that out.

I'll put that out right now,
Paris.

- Can we move the unicorns,
please?

These things?

Yeah, I'll just--
no, I love those.

These.

Just because
they look ridiculous.

Um...

- Yeah, I'm on it.

- Oh, they're all
going to leave.

- I'm on it.
- Okay.

Okay.
- In a nice way.

- Can you--
- But don't say because of me.

- No, I know.

Can you do the book Instagram
for two seconds?

'Cause I want to
get it up right now.

Just for like two seconds?
- Sure. Okay.

- And then--
yeah, don't worry about.

I'm just going to have
everyone in the upstairs--

- What are you
going to say--why?

- I just--it's privacy?

Okay.

- Hey, everyone.

My memoir, "Paris," is
available for pre-order.

The book is my life story.
[mumbles indistinctly]

- Hey, um,
because Paris is going

to be talking with her mom,

so she just wants no one
to be in the kitchen

so she can have privacy.

So I'm just putting
all this stuff there.

And I'll tell Arbo
and Cassidy the same.

Paris and I decided
today was going to be the day

that we were going to
kind of bring her team back.

We just sent an email out
and said fumigation is over.

But nobody knows that
Phoenix has arrived.

So making sure
no one goes upstairs,

not to be tipped off.

- Hey, everyone.
My new memoir, "Paris,"

is available now for pre-order.

You can click the link below.

This book was really--

no.

I can't even do this right now.

This is, like, so stressful
right now to do this.

It just keeps making [bleep]--

- [indistinct]
- I know.

- Just say--
- And my mom is coming now.

And I'm getting nervous.

- The first time my mom
saw the documentary,

she didn't know about
a lot of it.

* *

It was hard.

- I'm sorry that you had
to go through so much.

There was just
no getting through to you.

- She just was really upset.

It's just sad.

- I know you're nervous to tell
your family, but it's okay.

They're going to be
a little shocked.

They might fall out
of their chair,

but then she's going to be
so happy.

- I just feel bad.
- I know.

I know you feel bad.

But I think when
you explain it to your mom,

explain to her
why we kept this a secret

from literally everybody,
she'll understand.

And they're going be
so happy for you.

You always dreamed
about being a mother.

And now we have
the cutesie crew.

Okay?
- Yeah.

- So should we meditate?

[both exhale deeply]

She's going to love him.
[Paris groans]

She's going to be so happy.

* *

- Hello.

[gasps]
Are you awake?

- I just put him down.

- Hi, baby.
Hi, honey.

You're going to meet
your grandma today.

Oh, my goodness.

So we're going to pick out
what he's going to wear today.

- Is there a hat that matches?
- Yes.

- Can I see what it looks like
on him?

Hi, angel.

And is there, like,
a blue blanket?

Because I want to surprise her.
Like, I'm going to--

I'll have him covered.

Okay.

So maybe you just wrap him
like that for now

so he could just be in the bed.

Because I'm going to talk
to my mom for a little bit

before I bring
the big surprise.

- Okay.
- Oh!

Okay, so he'll wear that.
And then what else?

Oh, I'm so nervous.

* *

Okay, I'll be back.
- Okay.

- So cute.

* *

All right.

We moved into this house
four months ago,

and I haven't
invited my mom over yet.

When it comes to
interior design taste,

we are both
on different planets.

And my mom is very particular,

so I just didn't
feel like being judged.

[door opens]
- Hello?

Hello?

* *

Hello?
- sh*t. She's here.

- * I'm looking for
a way out *

[Paris sighs]

[doorbell chimes]

- Hello?

Hello?
- sh*t. She's here.

[soft dramatic music]

[sighing]
Okay.

- What a beautiful day.
- Right?

- Yes.
- Welcome to my house.

It's your first time here,
right?

- Yes.
I'd seen pictures.

This is gorgeous.
- Isn't it amazing?

- So Paris has moved into this
beautiful, wonderful house.

And I haven't been invited yet.

If I want to,
I will just go over.

But during November and
December, we all get so crazy.

- But has it been four months?

I don't think I've ever gone
four months.

- Oh, okay.

That's typical Paris.

Usually she comes to our house.

I don't take it personally.

- This is the Sliving Spa.

- Wow. How fabulous.
- Mm-hmm.

- Paris, this is incredible.
- Cool, right?

- Yes.

- All the machines and then
we have, like, the icon.

You put it on your body.

And it, like, massages
and sucks and, like,

tones you and makes you
sculpted.

- But do you really think
these work?

- Yes.
I do it every day almost.

freezes your face,
and then it heats it up.

And it, like, lifts.

And then you put on your tummy,
and it burns fat.

It's insane.
- I just love it.

- Mm-hmm.

- I want to come over
and try it.

- And then--

- They're my collection.

- Are you going to organize
them and put them somewhere?

Or--
- Like here.

Maybe, like,
put some of them on the walls.

I don't know.

What's that? That's a necklace.

- [chuckles] Just a necklace.
[Paris chuckles]

- Like a toy store.

Like she's having
a big tag sale.

All right, the sale is
starting in five minutes.

50% off on everything.

Do you have a glass, maybe?
- Um...

- [chuckles] Lots of cups.
- You know me. [chuckles]

- Like, "Architectural Digest"
has been wanting to do

her other house,
but you couldn't.

- Cute, right?
- Ooh.

Now, what is this going to be?
- This is the living room.

[quirky upbeat music]

I need to finish decorating.

- What--how are you
going to decorate?

- I've just been buying
a lot of things like that.

- Oh. How does--
[Paris laughs]

How does Carter feel
about that?

- He is so sweet.

He just will let me do
whatever I want.

But he did get
a interior designer.

- Yeah.
Because you're going to--

he's going to probably say,
all right, this is going to go.

How old are these pretzels?
[tense notes]

- An hour.
- Oh.

- We just picked up
all this stuff.

- Where did you get them?
- I don't know.

Gus went.

Mm.
Mm-hmm.

I haven't seen you since
the Christmas party.

- That was so much fun.
- So much fun. Mm-hmm.

- I liked it so much better
not doing that big tent.

- Yeah.

- Because it felt like
a charity event.

- It felt, like,
really intimate.

- This was intimate.
It was so much fun.

- You and your lipstick.

- I have chronic dry lips.
- Really?

- I-I-I'm telling you.

- I think you need to drink
more water or something.

Probably.
- I know.

What did you all do
for New Year's?

- I did a surprise performance
with Miley and Sia.

- Oh, yeah.
- Mm-hmm. Did you see it?

- I did. I did.
- So amazing.

I got you a surprise.
- You did?

- Two surprises for you.
- Uh-oh.

[Paris chuckles]
What are they?

Am I going to be scared?
- [laughs] No.

- Is it one of these cats?

[both laugh]
It's better than the cat.

- [chuckles]

[shopping bags flapping]

Your favorite.
- What is this for?

- It's to celebrate.
[chuckles]

- What are we celebrating?

- Everything.

- My birthday coming up?
Okay, let's see.

Aw.

- Oh, that's so--

- Love you.

- It's really sweet.

[soft dramatic music]

- Love you, Mom.

- You're sweet.

- I love you so much.

* *

[Kathy sobs]
And I missed you.

[Kathy sniffles]

- Paris has never hosted me
like this.

It makes me very sentimental,
I'm telling you.

It's like, all of a sudden
my baby is growing up.

And she is trying to--

this is her new house, and...

I don't know,

It was really so sweet,
so beautiful.

* *

So--

[sniffles]

* *

- I know you like to carry
all your things around.

- Oh, my gosh.
That's great.

- You've been carrying your
"Be Kind" purse everywhere.

- I have gotten more use
out of this purse.

- I know.
Can you wear a different one?

- Oop!

That is so gorgeous.

- So pretty, right?
- I love it, honey.

Oh, that was so thoughtful
of you, honey.

- Yeah.
I have another surprise.

- Another surprise?

What?

- It's someone. [laughs]
- Someone?

[Paris laughing]
- What? You're scaring me.

What?
- Don't be scared.

It's nothing bad.

[both laugh nervously]

- I'm like?
- It's a nice surprise.

You're the first one
who sees the surprise.

- I'm the first one to see
the surprise?

- Mm-hmm.
- Is it--okay.

- Do you want me to get it?
- Yeah.

- [laughing] Okay.
I'll be right back.

- With you, I never know.
- You never know.

[Paris laughs]

She has no idea still.
I don't even know what to say.

[Paris laughs]

- For sure, I feel like her
feelings are going to be hurt,

or she's going to get mad.
I don't know.

Like, I honestly don't know
how she's going to react.

If I was in their shoes,
and, like,

my daughter was having a baby

and didn't tell me
and surprised me,

I would be hurt and confused.

I'm going to go in with my mom,
and then I'll come out.

But in case I need anything--

I feel like I've made
so much progress with my mom

and just talking with her
and getting closer with her.

So I just don't want to
take steps backwards.

- Mm.

- [laughing]
Are you ready for the surprise?

- I don't know.
- It's a big one.

- I'm afraid.
- Don't be afraid. [chuckles]

[Phoenix cooing]

[soft dramatic music]

* *

- [shakily]
You're joking.
