02x01 - Silence Dogood Did Bad

Post by bunniefuu »

[train chugging]

[tense music]

[waves crashing]

[intense music]

Ah, sh*t!

[phone vibrates]

[exhales]

[scoffs]

Bollocks you are!

[car door opens]

[car door shuts]

[car starts up]

[tense music]

[car revving]

[door opens]

Vivian? It's me.

[door shuts]

Here as ordered.

[keys jangle]

[whispering] Put
your human face on.

[sighs]

Oh, you'd better not have
poured out my good...

Ah, no,

there you are!

Excellent.

[door opens]

Ah...

Ah, come to Daddy!

[tense music]

[g*nshots]

[table shatters]

[door shuts]

[door opens]

Ray?

Oh, my God! Ray!

Ray!

Ah, no...

[grunting]

Ah.

[intense music]

[theme music]

[indistinct chatter]

[clears throat]

Ma.

You have no idea how long
I've wanted to hear that word.

Would have heard it a lot
more if you hadn't left.

[chuckles]

You've grown into such
a handsome young man.

No thanks to you.

Well, it's genetics,
so some thanks to me.

Sorry.

I was just trying to
lighten things a bit.

Look, I'm not gonna palm you
off with some lame excuses.

What I did was unforgivable.

Then why are you here if you
don't deserve forgiveness?

I just want you to hear
my side of the story.

Well, first things first,

wouldn't you be more comfortable
joining us, Professor Wild?

Told you it wouldn't work.

Well, I did a little
research. Wasn't hard.

You two are rarely
out of the papers.

- Harry Wild.
- Paula Kenny.

Not too sure what to make of
this whole detective thing.

It's a little unusual.

Am I supposed to approve or not?

Approve?

You gave up that
right five years ago!

- Fergus!
- No, Harry.

Five years!

Not a Christmas card,
not a word, nothing!

Now she has the audacity to
sit there in front of me,

deciding whether or
not she approves?

- Fergus...
- No. No, this was a mistake.

Just leave us alone.

We are fine without you.

[Harry sighs]

[sighs] Oh, I just want him
to hear my side of the story.

Well, he's too angry to
hear anything right now.

Give him time, he'll calm down.

Why are you back?

Why now?

I ended up in America.

Florida.

I left with absolutely nothing.

I started from scratch.

I have a little real
estate business now.

A few months ago, around the
time when I first called,

I just closed my
biggest deal to date.

And I should have been thrilled

but, in that moment...

all I wanted to do was
call Fergus and Libby...

and, God help me, Malky.

I want my kids back
in my life, Harry.

And I know I don't deserve it,

but I just want a chance
to make it up to them.

Would you have a word with him?

[shutter clicking]

[tense music]

Where is she?

We have her in the next room.

We do this by the book.

We don't miss a thing, got it?

[door opens]

- Commissioner.
- Ahem.

Bring me up to speed.

Jill, take notes.

Oh...

Sorry, sorry.

For God's sake, woman!

Ignore her.

Uh, Garda Quinn
responded to a report

of an argument and a g*nsh*t

phoned in by a
member of the public.

When she arrived, she found

A.C. Tiernan-Mitchell
lying face down next to

the Chief on the ground.

She had a g*n in her right hand.

I understand she's
claiming she was attacked.

Didn't see her assailant.

No, paramedics checked her
out. No sign of any trauma.

So she could be making it up.

We've all heard how messy
this divorce is becoming.

With respect, Sir, a lot
of people get divorced

without sh**ting each other.

Not to say it doesn't happen.

True,

but I think we need more
evidence before we...

Sir...

there is more.

[pensive music]

Vivian shot him?

[Charlie] Looks that way.

[sighs]

Claims she found him
lying on the floor.

Someone attacked
her from behind,

knocked her out, put
the g*n in her hand.

You don't believe her?

There were inconsistencies.

No physical evidence
she was attacked.

Small traces of g*nsh*t
residue on her hand.

Found a message from
her on Ray's phone

asking him to come over,
which she denies sending.

I can't go over everything,

but Vivian doesn't have that
many friends in the Gardaí.

Not as many as Ray, and

I think she's about to
find that out the hard way.

How are you holding up?

I'm okay.

[mellow music]

Oh, Charlie.

We both know that's not true.

[sighs]

[Charlie sobs]

[door creaks open]

Ah, this is against protocol.

I can't give you long, Harry.

[exhales]

[door squeaks]

Come to gloat, have you?

Not at all. I just
want to make sure

the right person is punished.

Course,

us dumb guards
couldn't be expected

to find the real k*ller.

Well, you are in here.

If it was you,

I hope you rot.

But if it wasn't...

from what Charlie
says, your boss...

is not too interested

in looking elsewhere.

Alan McNamara's a toad.

He lives in fear of
me taking his job.

I'm smarter than him
and he hates that.

Did you do it?

No.

I can't believe he's dead.

Well, if you didn't
k*ll him, then who did?

Oh.

Back when he was
an investigator,

he put his fair share of
criminals behind bars.

There'll be plenty
who hold a grudge.

But why now? Did
anything happen recently?

Did any of the ex-cons
just get out of prison?

No, not that I know of.

Although come to think of it,
Ray was in HQ about a week ago.

Said he was doing research.

Research on what?

Oh, he didn't say,
and I didn't ask.

But there was
something about him.

An energy I hadn't
seen in him for years.

An energy? I mean, what
do you mean by that?

Well, he was excited.

Like he used to be,
in the old days.

[exhales]

[instrumental music]

There is a safe in his office.

If there is something,
it'll be in there.

And they'll get round
to opening it sooner

rather than later.

But I don't trust McNamara.

If whatever is in
there helps me,

it'll never see
the light of day.

So, you didn't
see your attacker?

You didn't see anything?

Hear anything? Nothing?

There was a smell.

It, it wasn't strong,
but it was distinctive.

It was like...
banana and aniseed.

Banana and aniseed?

I'm not sure how that'll help.

Lola, I've got to leave
for the PTA meeting.

Oh, your dad messaged to say
something's come up at work.

Sounds like he'll be late.

Yeah, that's no problem.

So, I've left a list of
chores on the fridge.

There's not many, so I've also
added a couple of pop quizzes.

One on algebra,
one on sequences.

But I've already
finished my homework.

Yeah.

And that's fine if you only want
to be as good as everyone else.

[scoffs]

[sighs]

- Bye.
- Bye.

[sighs] I have an idea

how we could raise
money for the school.

We could stop buying
all this wine.

- Hey!
- Alright?

Is she gone?

Yeah, to the world's
best lubricated PTA.

[Lola laughs]

[Fergus chuckles]

[kisses]

[door beeps]

[door creaks]

[suspenseful music]

[male #1]Ah, bollocks. Think
I left my lighter outside.

I'll be right back.

[male #2]Yeah, well,
get a move on, will ya?

[male #1]Ah, no here it is.

Put it in the wrong pocket.

[male #2]You're some eejit.

First time I met Ray

huh, I was in uniform.

He was a detective.

Me and my partner had
responded to a domestic.

This tiny, little old lady,

must have been a hundred
if she was a day,

had decided

she'd had enough of her
husband of 80 odd years

and beaten him to death
with his own prosthetic leg.

[all laughing]

This isn't my favourite place
in the world, you know, Harry?

[whispers] I know,
Skeevie. I appreciate it.

She offered him a slice of

this gorgeous-looking
cake she'd made,

and Ray always
had a sweet-tooth.

As he's lifting it to his mouth,

casual as you like, she goes,

Just so you know it's
full of rat poison.

[people chattering]

[laughter]

[suspenseful music]

[door opens]

The safe's in the corner.

Ah, honestly,

these guards do not take
their security seriously.

I mean, my five-year-old
niece could get into this.

- Quick as you can, Skeevie.
- Yeah, yeah.

Hhh. When Ray and
I were in uniform,

there was this, er...

lady of negotiable affection...

Anyway, it was rite of
passage for all green guards

to be initiated...

[rattling]

I mean, that's what we
told Ray anyway, you know.

[all laughing]

Ta-da!

[paper rustling]

"Expenses. Performance Reviews."

"Silence Dogood."

Who's Silence Dogood?

Sounds made up to me.

Ah, it is.

It was a pen name used
by Benjamin Franklin.

What am I looking at?

P-1-Elevens,

lock up evidence forms.

Whenever you're arrested,
they fill out one of them.

What does this
mean? "Misplaced?"

To all my comrades
that e'er I had,

they're sorry for my going away.

To all the sweethearts
that e'er I had,

they'd wish me one
more day to stay.

But since it fell into my lot,

that I should rise,
and you should not.

I'll gently rise...

and softly call,

goodnight and joy

be to you all.

- To Ray.
- To Ray!

[Skeevie] How do you
know the password?

Ray used the same
password for everything,

he always said it
under his breath

whenever he typed it in.

[Harry exhales]

[keys clacking]

[gasps] This is a drug dealer.

Arrested with a large
quantity of class A narcotics.

Case was dropped.

Evidence misplaced.

Misplaced?

[tense music]

[keys clacking]

Hm. Drug dealer.
Evidence misplaced.

[keys clacking]

Arrested. Case dropped.
Evidence misplaced.

[Harry exhales]

That's what misplaced means,

cases fall through because
of evidence going missing

but they've been logged in.

The evidence is going
missing from Garda stations.

"K.A." What does that mean?

Known Associates.

[Harry] Oh. All these people

are connected to Gary Whelan.

[keys clacking]

[sighs] Says here
he's still in prison.

How do you know Gary Whelan?

[sighs] He used to
run a snuff game.

Preyed on desperate people.

I heard some woman
got the better of him.

[Harry exhales]

That was you?

Bloody hell, Harry.

Respect.

Yeah...

Wait a minute, some
of these are recent.

After Whelan went inside.

Someone's still tampering
with evidence on his behalf.

Does that mean
there's a crooked cop

working for him?

[Emmet]Gonna get us
another glass, lads!

sh*t! Hide!

[indistinct chattering]

[intense music]

Oh.

Ah...

What's going on here?

[exhales]

It's just so tragic.

I'm still in shock.

Yeah, we all are.

Harry?

What are you doing here?

Charlie, I just had the
pleasure of meeting your mother.

Hm. Reminiscing.

I just wanted to see Ray's
office one last time.

You can't just walk in
when you feel like it.

Yeah. That's exactly what

Detective Maguire was just
telling me, and now you.

Consider me lesson learned.

[mellow music]

Skeevie, where are you?

[Skeevie] Argh!

[Skeevie panting]

That was a nightmare, Harry.

If I believed in therapy,

I'd be in therapy for years.

Come on, let's get you home.

[instrumental music]

Does June know you're
behind the bar?

You, my friend, are
looking at the new landlord

of the Hairy Goose.

Junes ma had a bit of a fall,

so she had to dash
home at short notice

and needed someone
to hold the fort.

And she chose you?

I was only too happy to help.

And you do realise the
tap is running, right?

Oh, bugger!

Oh...

[exhales]

And still, that doesn't explain

why you're dressed
as Angel Gabriel.

Not Gabriel, young Fergus.

Banban the Wise.

Who?

What's the busiest day for
any pub in Ireland, eh?

Easy. St Paddy's Day.

Exactly. St Paddy's Day.

And do you know how
many saints there are?

- Oh my God!
- Bloody thousands of them.

Ka-ching!

Glenn?

Get out from behind the
bar before June sees you.

- Ah...
- And why are you wearing that?

Junes ma had a fall.

Left him in charge. And
he's Banban the Wise.

I'm not even going to go there.

Glenn, drink. Fergus, sit.

Yeah, right you are.

[Harry sighs]

[drink pouring]

Here's your favourite.

What's going on?

[sighs]

[sighs] Ray's dead.

What do you mean, he's dead?

Oh, some b*stard shot him

and we're going to
have to find out who.

I don't know what to say...

♪ Oh Danny Boy

Oh. Oh, Glenn, no,
please! Oh my God!

No, please. Just go, go away.

I can't take that.

Right you are.

Poor old Ray.

May he R.I.P. in peace.

I think that Ray was running

a private investigation into...

crooked guards who were
working with Gary Whelan.

The snuff game?

Yeah, there was a guard
involved back then.

And I think that's who this is,
and I think they've been there

all along.

[exhales] And Ray...

went snooping around, and
that's how he got k*lled.

So, tonight, I got
Skeevie to open the safe

in Ray's office
and we found this.

Sorry, just one second.

You got Skeevie to break into
a safe in a Garda station?

Uh, look, let's not
focus on what happened

and let's focus on what's next.

Look, in here are forms

showing that evidence
has gone missing

from stations all over Dublin.

And here on top,

these, these are copies
from the visitor logs

of those stations.

Right. And we are?

So, we check the logs...

with the visitors
from those stations.

[sighs] And then
we find the b*stard

and we crucify them.

[tense music]

- QuitQuick!
- What?

It's a nicotine gum.

Malky swears by it.

Every time he gives up smoking,

he smells like
banana and aniseed.

So, if Vivian's
telling the truth,

were looking for a smoker
who's trying to quit.

Hm. That narrows the field.

[sighs] We need to
talk about your mother.

She's not going away.

Why not? She did before.

She made a mistake, Fergus.
She's trying to make up for it.

A mistake is leaving
the tap running,

Harry, not leaving your
kids for five years.

Well, everyone deserves
a second chance.

What have you found?

Well, it all comes
down to the same three,

Vivian, DC McNamara, and
Emmet Maguire. I met him.

So, if you're right,

one of these three k*lled Ray?

Hold up.

If your theory is
that the k*ller is

Whelan's inside man or woman

because they took part
in the snuff game,

then why would any of
these people do that?

Can't imagine the Deputy
Commissioner needs the money.

Well, maybe it's
not about the money.

The thrill of the chase?

No.

What we need to think
about is why now?

I mean,

Ray had been collecting
evidence for weeks.

Maybe because they
just found out?

Possibly.

Hmm, well,

let's start with the
two we don't know about,

Alan McNamara and Emmet Maguire.

I'm going to talk to Charlie,

see if he can tell me
something about them.

Alright. I will talk to
Malky about Gary Whelan.

Someone must still be
running his business.

Okay, but don't do
anything reckless.

Says the woman who just
broke into a Garda station.

[instrumental music]

It worked.

[siren wailing]

[thudding]

[Harry]Charlie?

[scoffs]

Hi, Charlie, can
I have a minute?

What's wrong?

They've just asked me to
be acting Chief Super.

Oh, Charlie.

- It's well deserved.
- No, it's not.

I'm only getting it
because Ray's dead.

That's not how I
wanted this to go.

I know, but Ray
would be thrilled.

[Charlie exhales]

Do I have a minute for what?

Can you tell me anything about
Emmet Maguire and Alan McNamara?

Can I tell you anything?

One's the Deputy Commissioner,
and one I've known for 20 years.

[gasps]

Oh, h*-h*, this is about Ray.

[gasps] What were you
doing here last night?

[sighs] Look, best not to ask.

Jesus, Harry! Leave this alone.

There's a right way and
there's a wrong way.

Look, I'm not going to
lie to you, Charlie.

I'm not leaving this. I can't.

Are you going to tell me or not?

Emmet Maguire is my friend.

He was Ray's friend.

The man runs outreach schemes
for underprivileged teens.

[scoffs] Harvey
Weinstein won an Oscar.

Uh! He didn't k*ll Ray!

And Alan McNamara...

Is behind you. Ahem.

So this, I'm assuming,

is the great detective that puts
all our flat foots to shame.

Deputy Commissioner McNamara,
my mother, Harry Wild.

No introduction
necessary, Charlie.

I must get back to HQ.

Harry,

I do hope our paths
cross again soon.

I've always wondered

what Garda headquarters
looks like.

Well, then you have
an open invitation

to come and see me
whenever you like.

- Ah...
- Any time.

[sighs] Hm.

Can't take you anywhere!

[instrumental music]

[sighs]

Da,

who runs Gary Whelan's
business now he's inside?

What do you suppose it is?

No idea. What is it?

Well, that's what I
mean. I don't know.

What if it's important?

[Fergus] Well, where
did it come from?

I found it in the
back of the drawer.

[sighs]

Whelan's business?

Who runs it?

What if it's part of the boiler?

Why would a part of the
boiler be in the drawer?

Safekeeping,

so I don't lose it.

Da...

[clicks fingers] Who runs...

Gary Whelan's business now?

His missus, Dee.

Quite a looker.

What, from the snooker
hall, like he did?

No,

from the big glass
house, near the pier.

[music continues]

Thank you.

Look, Da, there's something
I need to tell you.

Maybe it's part of the car.

We don't have a car.

Do we not?

Huh.

What did you want to tell me?

Never mind.

It can wait.

[music continues]

[door slams shut]

What happened to the car?

[upbeat music]

[Fergus]Look, is there a plan?

[sighs] Erm...

I mean, were not going to learn
much looking at some gates.

- We could press the buzzer.
- And say what?

That's a terrible idea!

Look, let me see if I
can sneak a peek inside.

I might be able to get
a look in over there.

[car door shuts]

Jeez, that's a big house.

[Fergus on radio]
I can't see anyone.

Might need a plan B.

Emmet Maguire runs
a martial arts dojo

for underprivileged teens.

Fancy being one for
a couple of hours?

I am one!

[Fergus]Wait. Hold
up. I see someone.

I think it's Gary's wife.

Malky said she was a looker.

And she's not alone.

There's a guy with her.

Butler maybe.

Okay. Possibly not the butler.

[Harry on radio] What?
What's happening?

[Fergus] What do you
think's happening?

Photograph it!

[Fergus] This isn't right.

I'm not sure that's
physically possible.

[laughs] Fergus.

[instrumental music]

[Emmet]Okay!

Don't worry if you
make a mistake.

This is a beginner's class.

No one is expecting you to be
Bruce Lee on the first day, yes?

If you like what we do today,

the class will take place
at the same time every week.

If you become good enough,

you can enter into competitions.

We were in London a
couple of days ago.

Did you go over too?

Let's leave the questions
till the end, okay?

But, yes, I did.

Our students did very well.

Came back with several trophies.

When-when exactly was this?

That sounds suspiciously like
another question there, fella.

Regionals will take
place in six months.

If you train hard enough, you
should be good enough to go.

You said a couple of
days ago, so, like,

Tuesday, or...

Okay, that's enough
of a warm up now.

Let's move onto some
demonstrating about

what were gonna learn,
yeah? So I need a volunteer.

You've just volunteered.

That's not how
volunteering works.

[telephone ringing]

[both chuckling]

- Hi. Professor Wild...
- Hello, Jill.

Oh, you remember me?

Oh, well, I mean, we
only just met yesterday.

Yes.

Well, the Deputy Commissioner
wasn't expecting to

hear from you quite so soon.

I'm afraid he's due
in a strategy meeting

in ten minutes...

No, that's alright. I'll just
pop my head around the corner.

Oh, well, maybe at a time
when he's not so busy.

Oh, well, an important man

like the Deputy Commissioner's
always gonna be busy.

Well, yes!

So now's as good a time as any.

So why don't you
lead the way, Jill?

This way, isn't it? Let me go.

Can I get everyone
to take a seat

around the edge of
the mat, please?

[instrumental music]

- What are you doing?
- Nothing!

Okay.

We'll learn some basic moves

like this...

[thud]

Ugh!

[groans]

You'll also learn
about self-defence.

[groans]

[squeals]

[phone beeping]

[Alan] Did you get rid of her?

[chuckles]

You'll discover I'm not
that easy to get rid of.

I didn't mean, I...

I was devastated

when I heard you were here,
and I knew I couldn't see you.

And here we are,

seeing each other.

[laughs] Hm.

Oh, you're quite a
daredevil, aren't you?

Oh, I like to push my limits.

It gets the blood pumping.

- Hunter?
- Er, no, no, no, no.

Never the hunter,
always the hunted.

That's what people don't
understand about Africa.

We are the prey.

Now that does get
the blood pumping.

[inhales deeply]

Mm.

Giraffe had an U*i, did he?

Oh! Oh, look, Benjamin Franklin.

Um, you a bit of
a historian then?

Fascinating man. Fascinating.

Ah, God, where are my ciggies?

[sighs] Could I
bother you, I...

Sorry, don't smoke.

Oh.

You know, I should quit too.

You must tell me your secret.

Oh, I-I never smoked.

I-I had terrible
asthma as a child.

Well, I, er, I mustn't keep you.

Maybe I'll just pop
in again some time...

when you're not so busy.

Well, you are always welcome.

[door shuts]

[Emmet]And once you
become good at that...

we'll move onto some
weapons training.

[intense music]

[Fergus clears throat]

[coughs] Ah!

[laughter]

[Fergus gasping]

These are not toys,

these are weapons.

Well done, son.

Better to show

and not tell.

So, if I can get you all to
pair off and we'll begin.

[phone ringing]

Dr. Hamilton, thank you so
much for getting back to me.

Yeah. Okay.

[suspenseful music]

[mouse clicking]

[music continues]

I talked to one of
the kids at the class.

Emmet Maguire was in London for
a competition the day Ray died.

Oh...

Well, I'm glad. I liked him.

[Fergus] I didn't.
He was mean.

[Harry sighs]

[Harry] According
to McNamara's diary,

he was in a meeting at
Leinster House at that time.

Both our prime
suspects have alibis.

So that means Vivian did it?

No. Not necessarily.

Alibis can be faked.

Nothing is as invisible
as the obvious.

What does that even mean?

Richard Farson. Look him up.

Oh, yes, Jordan,
yes, I'm still here.

It's for you, Ma'am.

Hi.

[Harry on phone] When
you said you saw Ray

at Garda HQ the other day,

did anyone else see him there?

I'm sure lots of people saw him.

Was Alan McNamara there?

Well, yeah. He was
with me when I saw Ray.

Why do you want to know?

I, I just have
one more question.

[tense music]

Of course. As always.

[Vivian] What have
you found out?

I'll let you know soon enough.

Ah...

[scoffs]

Bloody woman!

[sighs]

But that still isn't proof.

No, you're right.

We have to get the rat
to show themselves.

And how do we do that?

I have an idea.

You're not gonna like it.

I don't like it!

If you have a better
idea, speak up now.

[Fergus sighs]

No? Okay.

[doorbell buzzes]

[Fergus exhales]

You've got some
nerve coming here.

Good, so you know
who we are then.

Somebody m*rder*d my friend and
I think you know who did it.

Don't know anything about
anyone being m*rder*d.

But this here's Terry...

and he loves nothing more
than throwing people out.

All we need is the name
of the crooked guard

that's on your payroll.

Is that all?

No idea what you're
talking about.

Terry, show them out.

And don't be gentle.

I wonder what Gary would say
if he saw these photographs.

Fergus, er,

look into prison visiting
hours, would you?

[chuckles]

[pensive music]

[chuckles]

Gary and I have an
open relationship.

You'll just be giving him
a thrill showing him those.

Okay, sure?

Because Terry over here looked
like he was about to wet himself

but maybe I'm wrong.

- No, I'm never wrong, really.
- Yeah, it's very rare...

Okay. Okay. Stop!

Gary'll k*ll me if he
finds out I told you.

Well, he won't hear from us.

You have our word.

The guard's called
Silence Dogood.

That is not a real name.

I know,

but it's the only name I've got.

I've never even met him.

All I have is a number.

If I need something
I send a message.

[sighs]

There's a place at the beach
where I leave the payment.

[music continues]

Then I need you
to send a message.

[Harry]Can you see anything?

[Fergus]Nothing yet.

[tense music]

Someone's coming.

[car door closes]

Okay. I see them.

They're checking the
hole in the rock.

[music continues]

[Fergus]Okay, they're
heading back to you.

I can't make out a face.

Harry?

[radio static]

Harry, can you hear me?

Jesus...

Harry, answer me!

[intense music]

They're coming your way, Harry.

[car engine revving]

Harry, we need to go after them!

Oh, you're the most annoying
person in the world.

[engine revving]

[dramatic music]

[panting]

[brakes squeal]

[tense music]

Don't move!

Why don't you take
off that hood...

Jill?

[tense music]

Hello, Professor Wild.

Are you gonna sh**t me?

Time will tell.

How did you know it was me?

Wherever McNamara
goes, you go too,

but no one ever sees you.

He was signed in and out...

of every one of those
Garda stations by you.

I saw you do it at Charlie's.

You're the invisible woman.

[Jill]Can be handy sometimes.

Downside is, I have to
put up with McNamara.

He really is an
insufferable gobshite,

but he has his uses.

I didn't smell the banana
and aniseed gum on you.

[Jill] Vivian
plays by the rules.

When she remembered the gum,

she told Charlie and
he put it in a report.

I stopped using
it there and then.

But you didn't stop
using the stress ball.

I saw it on your desk.

Smokers need something
to do with their hands.

It all comes down
to one question...

why would anyone
want to be involved

in something like a snuff game?

[Harry] I overheard
you on the phone.

Your father's ill, I
checked with his doctor.

He has been for three years now.

Right about the time of
the first snuff game.

He'd always been so fit, my dad.

I had to do something.

It was a mistake. Gary had me
exactly where he wanted me.

But he's not stupid,
he pays well.

If you can't beat
them and all that.

Oh, woah, woah! Don't,
don't move, please!

Did you think that was loaded?

You really think I'm going
to hand you a loaded g*n?

[g*n clicks]

I knew you were there.

[tense music]

This one is loaded.

[g*nsh*t]

I need you to tell me who knows.

Why did you have to k*ll Ray?

Call it sixth sense.

When I saw Ray in HQ that day,
I just knew something was up.

So I checked

and discovered that
he had requested

copies of the visitors' logs.

It was only a matter of time
before he put it together.

And framing Vivian?

It wasn't personal.

I mean, I can't stand
the woman, no one can.

How are you going to explain me?

This time of day the
current down there

should take your body
right out to sea.

Hopefully, you're never
found. And if you are,

there's nothing that
connects me to you.

Not quite true.

I called Charlie.

He's already on his way.

You'd better be bluffing, kid.

There's a way out
of this for ya.

- Just think it through.
- I don't think so.

- Stay where you are.
- Don't! Don't move!

There is a way.
I mean, it's...

It's obvious.

All you have to do is...

[mumbles]

Speak up.

[tense music]

Ah.

[gasps]

[grunting]

[chain clanking]

[grunts]

Ah!

[panting]

Go on a little
adventure, did we?

[instrumental music]

[clinking]

[eggshells cracking]

Have you heard Da this morning?

He's usually up by now.

He's outside, asleep.

What?

[snores]

[door opens]

[sighs] Jesus, Da!

Just Da will do.

[Fergus] Come on.

I'm sorry, son.

I didn't wanna wake you.

I lost me keys.

[keys jangle]

Do you need a hand?

Hello, Malky.

What are you doing here?

I didn't like how we left
things the other day.

You knew she was here?

I was trying to tell ya.

Well, you didn't try
very bloody hard.

Da!

[door shuts]

I'm so sorry I left.

I can just imagine what
you've been dealing with.

Look, I did the wrong thing
leaving all those years ago.

All I want is a
chance to make amends.

I won't push.

I won't rush you.

Doesn't everyone
deserve a second chance?

That's what Harry said.

I need some time.

[pensive music]

Yeah.

[Fergus exhales]

[pounding on door]

I can come back later.

No.

You don't have to.

If you want.

[birds chirping]

[Vivian] Thank you...

for everything you did for me.

I didn't do it for you.

Oh, I know that.

But there weren't many other
people rushing to my defence.

So what are you gonna do now?

Are you going to
stay with the Gardai?

Of course I am!

Alan McNamara's name's a joke

now that everyone knows
the rat was in his office.

He won't be long
for that position.

[chuckles] I'm glad to see

you didn't learn humility
from your experience.

God, I can't stand the humble.

[both laugh]

I, I can't either.

[Vivian laughs]

I'm going to go.

[mellow music]

And if you need anything...

I guess I owe you now.

I guess you do.

[birds chirping]

[music continues]

[breathing heavily]

[theme music]

[music continues]
