[Static]

[Chord hums]

Bomani: tiger woods gave it

His best shot, lebron has

Looking at which teammates

He wants to ship out.

And people have already

Forgotten it's baseball season.

Drop that just blaze!

[Cheers and applause]

Thank you.

I just accidentally clapped for

Myself.

Man, did you know that since

2020, The ncaa member schools

Are allowed to pay athletes

Bonuses for academic

Performance?

Up to $5,980 a year.

This week, espn published a

Report on which colleges are

Paying and which are not.

This will shock you, but some

Schools don't want to pony up.

More than a third of fbs

Schools say they haven't decided

Whether they'll pay these

Additional benefits to athletes.

Bomani: come on, man.

First of all, six grand isn't

Life changing money.

Six grand is what you spend when

One thing happens to your

Already shitty car.

But secondly, 80% of

These schools aren't even paying

Them a dime.

I recognize the game they're

Running.

I keep 'em broke.

Wake up one morning with some

Money subject to go crazy you

Know?

I keep 'em looking good, pretty

And all that but you know.

No dough.

Bomani: no dough.

That's right pretty tony.

The p*mps in the mack and the

Administrators of fbs schools

Are using the same playbook.

I know you think I'm taking it

Too far comparing what the ncaa

Does to pimping?

Goldie actually doing better for

These kids than some of these

Schools.

You went to school, right?

I was there.

Okay.

For the little man.

Bomani: that's all I'm

Saying.

That's how you keep them in

School.

Now, if there is any new way to

Rip off these athletes, the ncaa

And these programs will take

Advantage of it.

It's the same way amazon could

Give workers bathrooms instead

Of making them piss in water

Bottles, but that might mean

Cutting into jeff bezos'

Precious little space adventure!

And that big big boy wants to

See his wittle wittle stawwrrss.

So, yes, these 130 fbs schools

Could pay athletes for being

Scholars.

But that's like paying your

Accountant to dance for you.

That ain't what he here for.

Plus, that's just not as fun as

Some of the other ways they like

To spend their cash.

All right, so this is our new

Recovery room.

We got a sleep pod

That drew is in.

Their day is so hectic.

Classes, meetings, practice.

In these rooms are sensory

Deprivation chambers.

Don't tell me y'all got your

Own salon in this arena.

This is the darius rucker

Recording studio.

Players and other people just

Come in and hang out and try to

Make their own music.

Bomani: look, man,

You can't hide money and these

Schools have it.

Yet, the majority of the

Eligible fbs schools are on the

Fence about these payments.

In fact, 15 of the schools have

No plans to dole out academic

Bonuses at all.

These schools are saying they

Just can't find the bread to

Break the kids off.

But you know who did?

Everybody else.

As of today, athletes can

Take sponsorships from companies

And auburn's bo nix didn't waste

Any time.

By 12:01 am, he's partnering

With milo's tea.

Paige bueckers is partnering

Up with chegg, the textbook

Rental company.

Twins hanna and hailey

Cavinder signing a sponsorship

Deal with wireless provider

Boost mobile.

We're super excited about

Boost mobile.

My name is dj uiagalelei.

It's bo time, baby!

Whoo!

Bomani: it's bo time, unless

You get there 30 minutes before

Close.

Then it's just dirty rice and

Pintos time.

And thighs.

They only got thighs left.

Shoutout to the 919.

Name, image, and likeness deals

Make fans feel like players are

Getting money from colleges.

But really it's like the ncaa

Alligator armed the check after

Dinner and let bojangles comp

The bill.

And sure, these athletes are

Given some form of compensation

For their hard work.

The good old-fashioned

Scholarship!

But a scholarship is not money.

You ever tried to pay for a date

With a scholarship?

So who is really benefiting from

These athletes' academic

Success?

The highest paid employees

On campus:

The coaches!

In 2020, usa today reported just

How many coaches get these kinds

Of academic bonuses.

For example, kentucky men's

Basketball coach john calipari

Received a $50,000 bonus

For his team's academic progress

Rate.

Which is how the ncaa measures

Team academic achievement.

But it's not just coach cal

Getting paid for his students'

Hard work.

Arizona state's athletic

Director ray anderson and head

Football coach herm

Edwards got a total of 925,000.

Tennessee's mens basketball

Coach rick barnes got a 100k

Bonus.

And michigan football coach jim

Harbaugh got 150k for his kids'

Grades, and just this february,

A brand new contract worth

37.5 million.

What the f*ck do any of these

Overseers have to do with kids'

Grades?

Imagine bringing home an "a" to

Your mom and dad, and your

Parents bought themselves a new

Car to celebrate you.

Here's the thing: there are

Plenty of people who want to pay

Athletes for their

Accomplishments on the field.

They're called boosters.

Boosters love to make it rain

On college students just trying

To pay tuition!

They want to give the players

Money so bad they risk going to

Jail to do it.

They're like the grandparents

Trying to spoil the grandbabies,

And the ncaa is the mom slapping

Candy out of their hands.

Sounds like this situation could

Use a little old-fashioned

Regulation.

But in the right direction

For once.

The ncaa needs to force these

Schools to run these kids their

Money.

[Cheers and applause]

In other news, this week,

Ciara and broncos quarterback

Russell wilson were minding

Their own business.

Not us!

We were minding their business,

Too.

One thing you brought up is

Russell and ciara.

Yeah, if russell ain't had that

Bread, ciara ain't gonna be with

Him.

[Laughter]

Russell's square.

Russell's square.

Bomani: he's square,

You heard the man!

Former dolphins linebacker

Channing crowder ruffled some

Feathers and blew up a quiet nfl

Offseason week by telling the

Truth.

No, she wouldn't be with russell

If he was broke.

She wouldn't be with him

Or idris elba or aquaman or

Nobody else if they were broke.

I'm not saying she's a gold

Digger, but she...

Ciara is 36 with kids.

Mess with a broke boy for who?

For what?

Some dude's buying her an

Anniversary gift and asking for

Her credit card number first.

But we can stop acting like the

Word square is a slur.

Plus, it's not like she married

This guy...

It was an unbelievable moment

For me.

I've been waiting for this my

Whole entire life.

You know, the lord is so good.

Bomani: no, that's who his

First wife married.

No, russell's kind of like this

Guy now.

Wassup, will?

Not man enough to swing with the

Brothers?

Bomani: classic television,

Baby.

But forget crowder,

You know who's good at breaking

Down relationships?

The streets of new york city.

Take a look.

I don't know if you saw this

But channing crowder said

Russell wilson was a square.

Is that okay for him to say?

Definitely not.

He is hating but the word

Square, people act like it's a

Slur.

It's nothing wrong with that,

I am a square too.

I used it to be called a nerd

So if russell wilson wants to be

A square, let him be a square.

Bomani: you can tell who

Was called a square when they

Were younger.

I am all for that.

I am a square too.

Bomani: what makes you

Square?

I enjoy anime, reading manga.

Bomani: you could be

Whatever shape you want to be.

You could be a rhombus.

He's a square but with a little

Lean squares stay out of

Trouble.

Square age.

It's time to settle down.

Get you a man that needs to take

A nap before he goes out.

Bomani: could you see

Yourself hanging out with

Russell wilson?

I mean, I don't know.

[Laughter]

Bomani: my guest tonight is

A comedian living in atlanta.

He's a member of the 85 south

Show, an old school car

Connoisseur, and he invented the

Phrase "black men don't cheat."

Give it up for karlous miller.

Plus[applause]

Do you do the atlanta sports

Thing?

I tried to.

One of the hardest things about

Living in atlanta is waking up

Every sunday and trying to

Support the falcons.

Speak one I got off that.

They are right there.

Bomani: you can always just

Say no.

No, man.

No matter how bad the game goes

A week before, the next week we

Think now they are going to do

It.

Bomani: I am trying to

Figure out.

When the man of the year went to

Jail for soliciting a the night

Before the super bowl, the

Quarterback got fighting dogs,

That's when I jumped off board.

Those were all the things

Keeping us in the playoffs.

Bomani: 223, I was already

Gone.

You need a little

Controversy.

Keep the morale up.

It's the super bowl.

At least it wasn't week six.

You've got to reward yourself

For the hard work.

Shout out to the braves.

They never let us down.

They have this new stadium.

They have a pork chop sandwich.

The brave is living ghetto

Fabulous.

Bomani: the boys have all

The chains.

Did you see the ring?

Bomani: I did see the ring.

Ronald acuna you, asking if he

Was going to miss freddie

Freeman he said no.

He said that they took him and

Sat him down and made him take

Off his eye black.

They were trying to humble him.

I was trying to figure out when

A dude named freddie freeman

Have the right to tell anybody

Else to do something it was less

Black.

A lot of stories coming out

About how people have been bad

Teammates.

They say that shaq had a bucket

That he peed in and he threw it

On people.

It might just be an internet

Rumor.

Bomani: the problem with

That is I feel like we would've

All known if it was true.

If shaq throws a bucket of piss

On you, what is your recourse?

You can't tell on shaq.

Bomani: you can't tell

Nothing to shaq and you can't

Fight him.

He's got to quit.

A lot of bad teammates out

There.

We are seeing that.

Everybody's getting traded and

Drafted.

I don't think you're supposed to

Miss your teammates.

No reason to miss them.

Bomani: you just don't miss

Them.

Act like he got traded and

Now he's playing hockey.

You'll see them again.

Small circles.

Bomani: will be around

Every day.

There is interaction and all

That stuff.

We all have jobs.

We work with people.

He wouldn't care if somebody,

It's cool.

You don't love everybody you

Work with.

They depends on who saw us

Coming to work.

I would like to see more, every

Time people gets traded, you

Feel so bad about it.

But what you think.

I've been asking them to do that

sh*t.

Finally.

Bomani: he was a little bit

Musty anyway.

We have guests on the show

And I asked him who is the

Mustiest player in whatever

League, the nba, or the nfl.

I'm pretty sure some of those

Players are like really hard to

Guard because they are just

Musty like that.

You know what I'm saying?

We have all been around people.

Bomani: there is a musty

Person in every job that I

Hadn't thought about --

There usually so nice.

Spbomani: they have to be.

You can't come to work dirty.

Bomani: people do.

I can go back through every job.

That was the trickling musty as

First that worked there.

That was a good way to cover

That up.

The musty person at this job.

Bomani: the person with the

Bad breath.

That right there, the dent's

Parking lot is full.

People wearing masks all day,

They really got to know

Themselves.

Bomani: this is how I have

Been showing up?

That's how they found out?

One dude, talking at his

Mask.

His eyebrows.

Have you been living with

Yourself?

Bomani: check out 85 south.

Karlous miller.

Appreciate you.

[Applause]

What does your dad do?

How long the better doctor?

I'm not.

I don't like people.

Bomani: that's definitely a

Good reason not to be a doctor.

My mother is a medical

Consultant.

Bomani: so you also are a

Medical consultant?

I am not.

You don't think it made you

Genetically predisposed?

I think I've got something in

My blood.

I know the exact amount of

Ginger rail that I need to drink

To get over my stomach ache.

Bomani: ginger ale when

Something is wrong.

We talk about nepotism on our

Show.

What kind of skills do you think

Genetically passed down to do

The jobs.

Bomani: money.

Bomani: I don't know if

That counts is a skill.

I guess intelligence could be

Genetic.

Most likely something

Physical.

If you are a weight lifter.

Your daughter might be inclined

To pick up some weights.

Bomani: you took up the

Daughter.

Here futuristic.

What about being an nfl coach?

No.

The kid is never any good.

I wouldn't want to be good at

Something.

If I didn't have to work at it.

I don't need to show up to the

Gym.

We've got somebody already.

Bomani: earlier this year

Former dolphins coach brian

Flores brought a racial

Discrimination lawsuit against

The nfl.

And just last week, he got some

Backup.

Two more black coaches

Joining brian flores in suing

The nfl.

Steve wilks was the head coach

Of the arizona cardinals back in

2018, And ray horton is a

Long-time nfl defensive

Assistant coach.

Bomani: I ain't seen suits

From this many black men since I

Stopped shopping at k&g.

These new plaintiffs highlight

The truth about black coaches

And racism.

It's not just about hiring,

They're gonna jerk you around at

Every step of the job.

Wilks described himself as a

Bridge coach and he was not

Given any meaningful opportunity

To succeed.

He also contrasts his situation

With that of general manager

Steve kime who was convicted of

A dui during the offseason and

Was eventually given

A contract extension.

Bomani: black coaches in

The nfl want what the white guys

Have, they have to work twice as

Hard to be half as drunk.

These coaches got receipts so

Long even the white dudes who

Got the jobs they

Sham-interviewed for are

Admitting it, like former titans

Coach mike mularkey.

The ownership there told me

I was going to be the head

Coach in 2016 before they went

Through the rooney rule.

And so, I sat there knowing

I was the head coach in '16 as

They went through this fake

Hiring process.

And I've regretted that

Since then.

It was the wrong thing to do.

I'm sorry I did that.

But it was not the way to go

About it.

Bomani: now the titans say it

Was a bunch of malarkey, but it

-- I am not even a dad.

But it still makes me

All warm inside

To hear a white man genuinely

Apologize.

But here's how I know the league

Doesn't care.

That interview was from 2020!

He admitted it in the open two

Years ago, and all it did was

Prove, listen everybody,

Nobody is listening to all

These podcasts!

Including yours.

Yes I just projected.

Anyway, black coaches keep

Getting piecemeal progress, but

All things being equal, these

Teams would hire white guys.

But ain't not news.

Black people have been getting

Passed over for jobs since our

Jobs became jobs and not

America's first unpaid

Internships.

Racism in the nfl is just an

Offshoot of racism in america.

And that sh*t is too big for one

Episode.

That's why right now I want to

Talk to the whites because the

Main victims of nfl hiring

Practices are y'all.

Yes, you, bryson.

Put down that quinoa.

Let me be your ally.

There is a systemic injustice

Where you are in the group

That's mistreated!

That's the american dream:

Righteous anger!

I'm mad for you.

See, getting an nfl coaching job

Isn't just about being white or

Even your great resume.

It's about your last name.

While his given name is john

Gruden jr., Everyone just calls

Him deuce.

One of the three gruden boys.

Deuce was recently hired as an

Assistant strength coach,

Working for his uncle jay with

The washington redskins.

He took the family path of

Football from high school at

Carolwood day onto college but

Is now making a name for himself

In the world of powerlifting.

The last name, it's why I am

Where I am, it's how I got in

The door, but my dad always

Said, you know, he'll be able to

Get me in the door, it's my job

To be able to stay in that lane.

Bomani: let me give you a

Pro tip.

You want to find the nepotism

Hire in the office?

Just look out for a dude who

Goes by "deuce."

In the battle of the "isms,"

Nepotism demolishes the

Competition.

It doesn't see race, nation, or

Culture.

It is everywhere.

The only "ism" more powerful

Than nepotism is baduism.

Over 100 coaches in the nfl last

Year were related to another

Coach.

That's almost two full nfl teams

Of kinfolk!

And you should be furious,

Mr. White man.

Imagine you're an honest,

Hardworking, no-name aspiring

Coach...

And that coaching job goes to

Deuce gruden.

Deuce is in the nfl because he

Was related to head coaches.

In his dad's case, a head coach

Who is no longer the head coach,

Because when his emails leaked,

It looked like one of those

Old-timey r*cist joke books that

Are so r*cist they brag about it

On the cover.

Those are real jokes.

We didn't have those.

And for every deuce the nfl

Drops in the coaching pool,

A job disappears that could have

Gone to a more qualified person

With a random last name.

And by now, I hope you are mad,

White people.

Not because I like angry whites,

But when your self-interest is

At stake, you get sh*t done!

Remember the way you made sure

Even if he got acquitted once,

You were eventually gonna get

O.j.

And gave that man 33 years for

Stealing his own sh*t.

Not saying I'm cool with it.

But you get it.

Nepotism in the nfl runs deep.

Crunched the numbers on

Nepotism,

And they found out the nfl

Family tree is all kinds of

Rotten.

You don't believe me?

Let me show you.

That's right.

Here are the nfl head

Coaches from 2021 whose father

Or grandfather worked in the

Nfl.

Here's how tangled this sh*t

Gets when you go down the

Branches.

I know this looks like some

Q-anon sh*t, allow let me

To explain.

This isn't even a map of every

Nfl coach.

This is only coaches related to

Each other by blood or marriage.

And don't get it twisted, y'all,

There's some black people on

Here, too.

Not they faces.

We don't get those jobs.

But in the middle,

We're there.

And I know some of you are

Saying that nepotism is

Everywhere, it's just part of

How business works.

But this ain't a small-town car

Dealership where the owner hires

His kids to work the sales

Floor.

This is the nfl.

And it's not like the nfl isn't

Talking about it.

It all comes back to the

Concept of nepotism in coaching.

Do you have an issue with

Coaches exercising their

Prerogative, as they fill out

A staff, to give a job to one of

Their kids or as a favor to a

Buddy who coaches another team,

That guy's kids?

Bomani: all right, before

That guy answers, I want to

Tell you who that guy is.

He's former nfl

Quarterback-turned-broadcaster

Chris simms, son of former nfl

Quarterback-turned-broadcaster

Phil simms.

He's a hardworking broadcaster,

But it is possible he doesn't

Have the most balanced

Understanding of nepotism.

But let's hear if he has an

Issue with it.

I don't.

It's a tough subject.

Now, do I think it affects,

You know, the fact of, the fact

Of, maybe lack of minority head

Coaches and things like that?

Yeah, I do.

Because, of course, you're

Having family members take jobs

That are available.

But, you know, it is, for the

Most part, you know, the family

Business for a lot of these

Coaches.

Bomani: the sopranos

Is a family business.

Coaching is not.

Nobody rolls up to gillette

Stadium and sees a big neon sign

That says "belichick and sons."

Talks about coaches sounds like

They work harder than those

Without a head start.

They talk about those kids like

They drained from the day they

Were born.

Watching game tape the set of

Cartoons.

Like they're the only ones

Dedicated to football.

It's what they grew up aroun

Around.

They are experienced.

They've been around that way of

Life.

They are nuanced and some of

These tiny details we wouldn't

Even think about as outsiders

And what it takes to run an

Organization and be a head coach

That way.

Bomani: you don't think other

People are obsessed with the

Details of football?

You really think deuce gruden is

More dedicated to the game than

Fireman ed?

That dude eats, sleeps,

And breathes the jets.

Voluntarily!

You hear this kind of

"Born for it" sh*t all the time.

And there's only one problem

With it: none of it translates

Into more wins.

Watch this.

On the left are all the nfl head

Coaches from the past 5 seasons

With an older relative who was

An nfl or d1 coach.

And on the right are all the

Other guys.

Now here's their winning

Percentages over the last five

Seasons.

They're essentially tied.

I'm ain't sure what that

"Eat breathe sleep football"

Gets you, but it sure ain't

Wins.

Especially when you realize that

A bunch of those legacy

Wins are just from bill

Belichick.

We got to stop talking about

These guys like their dna has

The secret recipe for when to go

For two.

Because here's the truth.

There are lots of skills that

Pass down father to son.

Dell curry's sh**ting motion.

Vlad guerrero's power.

Tom hanks' famous patois accent.

Big up the whole island

Massive.

It's ya boy chetna coming

Straight from the golden globes

Awards.

Me finna father tom hanks

Presenting an award.

Bomani: chet

Trying to licky boom boom down.

Those things that get passed

Down, strategy isn't one of the

Them.

That's not just true on the

Football field.

In the all-time history of chess

Grandmasters, you know how many

Parents and kids have both

Shared that title?

Three.

Out of almost 2,000.

0.15% of these master

Strategists who grew up around

The game used those genetic

Skills to become a grandmaster.

But pretending that dna begets

Coaching talent is hurting every

Single coach who wasn't

Conceived on top of a playbook.

Coaching hires should be based

On merit.

Things like win-loss record,

How good your offense or defense

Are.

Not whose house you pull up to

On thanksgiving.

And perk up them caucasian ears

While I run it back again:

Every one of these nepotism

Hires hurts white coaches!

Black coaches?

They're gonna find a way to mess

With us regardless..

They are driven.

No matter what rules you change.

They're going to do it.

But y'all?

These dudes are making the

Gridiron into the ivy league,

Gettin' in on legacy admissions!

It's all bad!

But there are a few coaches in

The league who are showcasing a

Better way to hire.

Guys like super bowl winner

Bruce arians.

In 2021, arians' buccaneers were

The only team in the nfl to have

Three minority coordinators and

His staff was the only one to

Have two women in assistant

Coaching roles.

On the other coast, you've

Got the guy who coached the

Niners to their most recent

Super bowl appearance, kyle

Shanahan, son of nfl head coach

Mike shanahan.

I try to hire people that I

Work with that are prepared

For it.

And fortunately, that has worked

Out well for me.

I've got a muslim coach.

I mean a muslim coordinator,

A black coordinator,

We have a l*sbian on our staff.

We have everything.

And it's not just to show people

We're trying to be diverse.

It's just because I have been

Around these people and they're

Really good at what they do and

We can't win without these

People.

Bomani: he definitely said

Muslim.

He forgot where he was from.

Is arabia a country?

Hire the best people

For the job.

You do it and we solve a hell of

A lot of the problems on that

Board.

And coaches, don't worry, we got

The perfect solution for what to

Do with your kids.

Are you an nfl coach whose

Son wants to be your assistant

Receivers coach even though his

Dumb a*s can't tell the

Coverage.

What if I told her there was a

Place he can go to learn to work

For even a second of his entire

f*cking life.

The rob and rex ryan school.

We teach the children of nfl

Coaches the skills they need to

Succeed on their own.

So coaching jobs can go to

People who can help their team

Win more than half their f*cking

Games.

Skills like not coaching.

Typing.

Washing sh*t.

Wearing a hat that is not a

Visor.

Car repair for anything besides

Destroying your hard-earned

Legacy.

How to move out of the house

Because you are 24 and it's time

To f*cking move out.

And microsoft xl.

So many career paths where your

Child's mediocrity won't

Sabotage a franchise for your

Kid could become the office

Funny guy, the one person who

Knows how to print using wi-fi.

The possibilities are endless so

If you're an nfl head coach

Interested in what's best for

Your team, your city and your

Child's independence, get your

Kid a real a*s job.

[Applause]

Bomani: that is our show

For tonight.

Thanks to everyone for watching.

You know what time it is.

It's bo time, baby.

Whoo!

Bomani: the thing about the

Future, I don't know why we

Don't act like the future is in

38 Years old.

How long are we going to do

That?

Bomani: what is the right

Age to settle down?

The right age to settle down.

I don't know.

Early 30s?

Bomani: I liked that answer

A lot better ten years ago.

What do you think is the right

Age to settle down?

Like have kids and be

Married?

30 Is when you kind of get old.

32.

Bomani: higher.

Keep going.

Keep going.

50.

Bomani: that sounds a

Little better.

I don't know.

Bomani: neither do i.

Whenever you find that right

Person.

People say you're too young to

Settle down.

The party you left at 10:00

Could of got shot up at 11.

If they sh**t it up at 11,

You shouldn't have been there in

The first place.

What is your mama say?

She has been married three

Times.

I am at the age where I just

Need peace.

College days, I love me some

Toxicness.

Now I'm different.

I've got a dog.

Matching pajamas.

Not just on christmas.
