Congrats to him.

I'm sure it's a coincidence that

Nba 75 was in lebron's hometown.

Right?

We were one step away from

The all star logo saying

"Watch "space jam 2"."

I will not.

But now?

The basketball world can

Breathe a sigh of relief.

Because lebron james is not

In the playoffs.

Thank the lord!

Dollars" or whatever it is.

On his body.

Yeah, lebron, a lot of money,

I don't know if he spends more

Than anybody else.

A lot of people don't mention

How much they spend.

That the sport isn't about one

This was in memphis, though, and

Get a chain in the arena?

Basketball coach at kansas state

University.

What did you think when you had

Heard or saw that?

I actually saw that tweet,

Strangely, I looked at it,

It was like, I started to use my

Thumbs to just correct them.

Then I was like, what the hell,

Let them go with it.

Let's see what comes about it.

The strangest thing is, because

I thought it was frank martin

Who used to coach at

Kansas state, and he was in the

Process of actually looking for

Another job, so I thought that

They got the names mixed up.

But I could have corrected them,

But I said, no, I'm not going to

Let this be a distraction in us

Winning or our quest to win a

National championship.

Bomani: well, what do you

Think about the idea of coaching

Men?

It seems like people view that

For women and basketball as a

Promotion on gp.

I feel like basketball is

Basketball.

I do.

A lot of times, people don't

Realize, everybody can be a

X and o, like, genius.

Like, it is nothing.

You can study that.

You can't study people and the

Relationships that you need to

Forge for people to be great.

Athletes want to be -- they're

Confident people, and it's a

Fine line, because that

Confidence can be shaken with

One word, one criticism, or

It can be switched with some

Positivity.

I like to be more direct.

I grew up in a household of

Three brothers and one sister,

So I was used to having

Testosterone all around our

Household.

So I feel like, if guys can --

If you can help them, you know,

So be it.

It doesn't have to come from

Another man.

It can come from a woman.

[Applause]

I do think my credentials will

Allow me to get in the

Locker room and be respected in

That way.

And also, I just feel like the

Relationships I that build with

My players comes from a place of

Love and respect and people can

Feel that and respond to it and

React to it and be great in

Their craft.

Bomani: I can say this

Because your credentials

Also get you a better job at

Kansas state.

Do any of those things top that

One time that you was on

"Martin," in terms of the levels

Of accomplishment?

I will tell you this, more

People know me for appearing on

The "martin" show than all of my

Basketball career and all of the

Coaching career.

I had the absolute best time of

My life appearing on that show.

One because I didn't know what

It all entails.

We got there a couple of days

Before the show started.

The next day, we just read our

Parts.

We sat around the table and read

Our parts.

And that was it.

Like, you know, pam, gina,

Martin, tommy, and they don't

Like to be called their stage

Names.

But that is all we know them as.

Pam, I wanted to say pam a lot.

Whatever, pam, no, they want you

To call them -- it was one of

The most gratifying, to know

Martin.

I will go to a martin show,

A comedy show, and we will see

Each other in the back and he's

Like, "dawn mfing staley,

Congratulations."

Like, martin, we still know each

How do I make them feel like I

This is a very invasive

Saying we need it for the sake

Of competitive balance.

Yeah, like pursuing fairness for

One group justifies taking it

Away from another.

Here's how nfl films put it.

The draft wouldn't exist had

It not been invented by eagles

Owner bert bell back in 1936.

He expressed it

In a way that the strongest had

To go to the bottom of the

List and the weakest at the top.

The first college allocation

Event was staged at the

Ritz-carlton hotel owned by his

Father.

Bomani: his dad owned the

Ritz!

Whew.

Come on, man.

We know what this really was.

A bunch of old coots in an

Honest-to-god smoke-filled room,

Mixing themseves coldies and

Conspiring with one another to

Hold the workers down.

Capitalists have been running

That game since they stopped

Paying people with little bits

Of gold.

One historian ran the numbers

And concluded that the draft had

"No immediate impact" on parity,

And that its main effect was to

Depress player salaries.

Yeah, turns out the draft just

Gave the shitty organizations

A new thing to be bad at.

But it hung around anyway

Because the owners were saving

Money on payroll and keeping a

Tighter leash on the players.

Soon enough the draft became an

Institution.

And soon enough the institution

Became a big old dumb spectacle.

Now if you want to know why this

Abomination not only persists,

But seems to grow in cultural

Significance year after year,

It's because the league, with

The help of cable television,

Took something that used to be

As boring as morehouse's own

Alive into something as exciting

Draft now has to contend with

Love it.

Abolishing the draft would

Be tantamount to canceling

We love that show even if now we

But let's say the players

Finally decide to bury the draft

For good.

Here's what I envision.

We lose the wage suppression.

But keep the tv show.

To negotiate with any team.

And then let's make a big dumb
