[Arielle] The amount of hits that
Shedeur took in just the UCLA game alone

is the equivalent that most quarterbacks
will take over a multitude of games.

He got sacked seven times against UCLA,

and he was under pressure
for half of his snaps.

I know that he had to get a cortisone shot
in the middle of the game,

but it really does speak
to how tough this kid is.

in my power every hour of the day

to make sure I'm able to be out there

It's not sustainable because eventually
one of those hits is gonna break him.

without Shedeur Sanders.

It's official, and it has sent excitement
throughout the entire country.

SWAC championships.

Now looking to turn around
a Colorado program

that's had two winning seasons

two of the biggest transfers

on the heels of Shedeur Sanders

getting absolutely pummeled
against UCLA last weekend.

This looks like a demotion to me.

Sean Lewis has had, I thought,
a pretty damn good year.

When I got the alert that Sean Lewis
was gonna be the co-offensive coordinator

and Pat Shurmur was gonna call the plays,
I was shocked.

[Yogi] Anybody who's been around
college football for a long time

and knows the reputation of Sean Lewis
was equally, if not more, shocked.

We're going hard.
Game-like tempo, okay?

When I make a change in personnel
on the field or in the coaching aspect,

it's long thought out.

I don't make any changes
of that nature based on emotions

because I'm not a seesaw type of a person.

I rock steady.

This summer, Coach Prime called
and said he would like to have, you know,

somebody with my background
join his staff.

Most often, working behind the scenes.

That's it. Good.

And obviously that's
ramped up a little bit now.

But, you know, I think we're all
just still working together.

He wanted me to have
a little bit more of an impact.

This should be good
'cause there's no edges.

When you're seeing a quarterback

take the pounding
that Shedeur Sanders has taken,

I mean, that had to lead
to replacing his play-caller.

[Coach Prime] Coach Shurmur
is a man who's had 21 years

of professional experience,
and he's done it at the highest of levels.

[Pat]
Give it a chance.

They started off so hot,
and then things went a little bit awry,

and it felt like they just
had to make a change.

They need to do a better job
of protecting Shedeur.

So, you never want to have
mid-season coaching change,

but it felt like this is
one of those things

that's like, "We have to try
something at this point."

[Coach Prime]
This is not emotional.

I don't dislike Coach Lewis
or what they're doing.

It just was time.

I'm consistently trying
to take us to another level.

Hey, take a hitch and throw it.

There's no reason to make
an inaccurate throw in that, right?

[Shedeur]
At this point, we're all grown men

and we're all here for a purpose,
and that's to get to the next level.

Each person has to make
a conscious decision to make that effort.

[Coach Prime]
It is my obligation to this university

and to these young men
that I put them in the best position

not only to win a football game,
but to advance to the next level.

That's my obligation,
and I'm gonna stick to that.

The one thing we've tried to do
is coach the players that are here.

But understand, recruiting
is the lifeblood of your program.

The better players you have
and the better developed they are,

the better team you're gonna have.

If we can go into 2024
with a ten-piece.

We have, what, 11, 12 commits?
We'll get some more.

Transfers could factor into that.

But, like, we ideally gotta use
all 20 of them spots.

You gotta use all 20 spots,
but you may not have to use all 20 visits.

Expectations are always a fun word.

When you look at 2024 in Colorado,
I know the expectations of Coach Prime.

The truth is, though, you've gotta
develop, in year two, the roots.

You better watch church on TV.
Man, we got work to do.

I would describe my role in the program
as the keeper of our roster.

I don't wanna practice.
I keep telling y'all.

I'm just saying we need to close the loop.

Yeah, we'll have a conversation with them.

My conversation always starts with Coach.

We're down the stretch,
the last quarter of the season.

We'll continue our advanced scout,
but now we'll start

to really self-scout us
and see what our needs are.

Compare him to him at the same position.

I mean, I think the second one
is more athletic.

Quicker-footed,
like it has more years left.

Of course, you wanna upgrade the roster
by any means necessary.

And the transfer portal
has allowed us to do that.

That block of time...

The more people and points of contact

helps alleviate that.

This is an incredibly daunting task

because the schedule
has only gotten harder and harder

as the team has gotten
more and more banged up

and you have Shedeur
dealing with injuries.

And meanwhile,
you're running into some juggernauts.

It's funny that it's
the last year of the Pac-12

because this is the best
the conference has ever been.

[Mark] Tomorrow night,
he's gonna lead the Buffaloes

to play the Oregon State Beavers
for Homecoming.

[Shane] It's not gonna be an easy game
that we play, especially from here on out.

Every game, we need to fight
every single quarter,

every single down, every single minute,
to get that win.

about what we've done this year

been a part of a team,
or been part of a game

that I've actually witnessed coaches

and players quit.

And the whole thing that has
kept me going, and kept me encouraged...

No matter what the media
may have ever said about us,

I said, "One thing about these guys
is they haven't quit."

When you're somebody like Coach Prime,

that his entire life has competed
and excelled at a certain level,

and when you're a Hall of Fame
type of athlete like that,

you expect things to be
that way all the time.

Coach Prime never before in his
coaching history, his leadership history,

has he had a losing record.

This is the first time
he's gone through something like this.

I mean, it's something I've always done
since a freshman at Dartmouth.

I think it is a part of leadership.

And if you're gonna have
the same expectations for someone else,

Comparing teams that I've been on
at Dartmouth and how we were together,

win, loss, workout,
summer, film study session,

no matter what it was,
that was a team, that was a family.

I don't think we're there yet.

I think we've learned
from the great experiment

that they were calling Colorado early on,

football takes camaraderie,
football takes togetherness.

And no matter how many
great players you bring together,

how many people are excited
to wear your colors,

that actually takes time to cultivate.

They had a couple tough calls
go against the Buffaloes,

for Coach Prime and the Buffaloes

comes to an end.

so it's kind of good to be up here.

[Travis] Season's wrapped up now,
so the off-season for me is pretty much,

I took, what, a day off,
two days off, after the game Saturday.

Went back to the gym
with my girlfriend today,

so I'm gonna be working out still.

Oh, I thought it stood by itself.

Hold on, undo this real quick
while I plug up the lights.

Now, on the 2023 season,
we didn't get what we wanted.

I mean, we tried our best to get
a lot of guys to come in as one,

and that's kind of hard to do,
knowing that we got a lot of talent,

but we wasn't able to put it all together

and have years under our belt
with the coaches.

So, we just gotta do better
next year with bonding.

Wait, no, I gotta admit, I can't reach it.

Yeah, you wanna do the top,
but you probably can reach it.

You ain't that short.

Next season, I'm same play style.
It's gonna be the same thing for me.

I love to be on the football field,
playing and competing with my brothers.

So, that's my main thing,
is to go out there and compete,

and I wanna be able to do that
on both sides of the ball at all times.

[Leanna]
I know what I can get you for Christmas.

[Travis] What?

I'm gonna buy all your cleats
for next year.

Oh.

For Christmas.

I'm gonna get them all pre-made.

[Travis]
No, I don't want them pre-made.

- [Travis] No, I like as we go.

'Cause we come up
with different things as we go.

So, like, if you get them all pre-made,
it's not gonna be right.

You used the whole box already?

[Travis] Most about the 2024 season
is we get another chance to play football,

get another chance to go out there
and become a winning team.

I'm looking forward for a bowl game.

Hopefully, get
to the national championship.

Just go out there and work.

[Coach Prime] You and everybody
in the country know what we need to do.

You know what
the first order of business is.

- O-line, D-line.

But you know what?
This year, we're going after all starters.

Mm.

Like, started.
They've gotta have been a starter.

College football has changed, man.
Ain't nothing free anymore.

This past season
was the season of hope.

We instilled hope

in everybody that had
anything to do with CU football.

Like, now, they, is not...

It wasn't one game
that they didn't have hope.

I was having a good conversation
with our new, uh...

Commissioner of the Big 12.

He said, a lot of people
were coming to him, asking him...

Why are you so excited about Colorado?

And the potential that a...

Head Coach could be leaving
to go elsewhere.

He said, Oh, no!

I never worry about him leaving.

He's not that type of guy.

He said, because he builds legacies,
he don't inherit them.

I said...

ooh-wee!

[clears throat] We talk about
the characteristics all the time

of what we want this team to look like.

Why not put a grade to it?

And can we?

Can you you put a number, one to five,
on how fast the kid is?

That's something that's objective.

And then two, is it us,
or do we let the coaches do it?

Recruiting is always fascinating,
especially now in the portal era.

There's a lot of steps
that go into being a competitive team

to being a championship team.

So, right there on that front left,
we'll put what our needs are.

We know how many O-linemen we need,
how many in each position.

As we continue to attain talent,
those needs will just come off

until we don't have
any more positional needs.

[Coach Prime] At the beginning
of the season, the cupboard was empty.

We had nothing.

But now you have more of a keen sense
of understanding what you have

and what you lack.

[Yogi]
Now it's about getting those players

and then truly dropping
roots into this community.

Okay.

This is therapeutic, bro.

[Rick] You know,
as I look back on the year,

would we like a few more wins?

Yes, but the energy that Coach Prime

has brought to our fan base
and our community is significant.

Oh, my God, this is unbelievable.

This is unbelievable.

Deion Sanders is not just a coach.

We ain't coming no more.

Things that we're trying to do here
is bigger than wins and losses.

...the fun, and, you know, the fashion

that he's bringing to college football.

[Coach Prime]
Put them on if you can, please.

It's Deion.

Not only is he changing the coach,
he's bringing the coach with him.

[all cheer]

[Coach Prime] I think a multitude
of people believed from day one.

A multitude didn't.

The love and the hate,
that's what makes us who we are.

Being a part of,
like, the restoration

within this season has been wonderful.

We're close to having success,
we just ain't found a way to do it yet.

I'd rather have high expectations
than no expectations.

So, we just gotta stay focused,
stay patient.

This season was more of a hope.

And, although record-wise,
we may have not reached our goals.

But there's a lot of goals
that we did reach.

Next season, it's expectations,

and I cannot wait to see

what we put on the field next season.
