I just don't remember

the words so good!

Teacher, Yuri's being mean

to me about my singing!

And rude!

- I'm the teacher

in this scenario?

If that's the case,

allow me to explain.

And as luck would have it,

I was actually going over

this song's lyrics

earlier today.

The correct lyrics

are a bit less abstract.

They refer

to a power being delivered

to a mountain in Kurosaki.

The mountain was made

of mudstone,

and there's only one such place

in Kurosaki.

If my theory's correct,

a temple is there.

- Ah!

I never knew that's what

the old song was talking about!

- Hmm.

So what's

the Iyoyoloki part about?

- Iyoyoloki Soyohosu

is from the first verse.

It sounds a lot

like "yorokobi moyoosu,"

doesn't it?

That means,

"to have joy."

That's why the people

of Kurosaki believe

the phrase is about bringing

forth joy and happiness.

- That makes more sense.

Kimi really couldn't remember

those lyrics, could she?

- That's nothing compared

to the second verse.

The lyrics here can be seen

as describing

the sacred king

receiving something

from the people of Kuzululu.

- Wait a sec.

Kimi's verse

of the sacred king made

it sound like she was talking

about herself.

- Considering the name Kimi

can also mean "king,"

and her hair is also black,

why not?

- Yay!

- Not to mention they spoil you

like royalty.

Anyway, where were we?

Oh, what about Kuzululu?

Is that a people?

Is it a city?

- An excellent question.

The name Kuzululu comes

from the ancient god

of an unknown sea

and refers to its followers.

- Wow.

- Those worshipers were exiled

from their homeland--

although there's no record why--

and eventually arrived

in Kurosaki

where they served

the land's king.

If this is the origin

of the power held

by Kurosaki's gods,

it ties back to verse one.

That would mean Kurosaki's roots

are connected

to an ancient nameless sea.

Isn't it romantic?

- Taka's really into

this history stuff, huh?

- The third verse happens

to be the most cryptic

of them all.

If I had

to try interpreting it myself,

I'd say, "Sing your prayers

to the heavens until

"the Kurokado is wrapped

in verdant moss,

and show kindness to all until

the heavens reunite with Earth."

- "Until the heavens reunite

with Earth?"

- Mm.

According to Yoshiken,

the people of Kurosaki used

to believe that they

would be able to see

their departed loved ones

again someday.

That's probably what

it's referring to.

- That sounds like so much fun.

- Fun?

Really?

Scary!

The song holds the secrets

of Kurosaki's lost beliefs,

history, culture,

and even how

the native people saw life.

It's important for us

to understand it

and preserve it

for future generations.

- This kinda sounds

like something my dad likes.

He used to go on a lot

of business trips

to southern places.

- Oh, maybe I could discuss it

with him.

- One thing I don't get.

What on Earth

does Kurokado mean, Taka?

- Oh, yeah.

Sorry about that.

The mysterious Kurokado appears

frequently in ancient texts.

It seemed to be something vast

and very important.

- Hold on.

What does that mean?

- In this context,

"kado" means gate.

I'm not sure why exactly.

It may refer to the torii gates.

- That would make sense.

It's a worthy path to my temple.

- You know you're

not actually royalty.

All this thinking and learning

has made me thirsty.

Wanna have some juice

at my place, Kimi?

- Oh, you bet!

- I'll go get everything ready

in our kitchen.

- Thanks for hanging out

with us today, Taka.

- My pleasure.

All that talk about

the song got me curious

and now I'll have

to do more research.

What?

- Uh?

Kan, good morning to you!

What'cha doin' over there?

- Right here,

I love the green stuff.

- You mean the moss?

- Is moss?

Yes, moss.

I will not forget.

- You were looking

at that moss earlier.

Does something about it

bother you?
