01x12 - Sally's Tooth/The Chewing Gum Dilemma

Post by bunniefuu »

[plays trumpet call]

Mmm. I might sign up for badminton today.

What about you, Charlie Brown?

What's that?

A sign-up sheet for astronaut training.

That's an odd camp activity.

[squeaking]

[cheering, chuckling]

- [crash]
- [groans]

I'm sticking with badminton.

[Sally] "Sally's Tooth."

[sighs] Look at this toast.

Even butter application.

Perfectly distributed marmalade.

Not a bad job, if I say so myself.

It's not that bad.

[gasps] I lost a tooth.

That's some tough marmalade.

Are you all right?

All right?

I'm great!

This means a visit from the tooth fairy!

Make way. Make way.

Coming through, minus one tooth.

[gasps] Snoopy, did you hear?

I lost one of my baby teeth.

Hmm.

[chuckles]

[grumbles]

Did you hear I lost a tooth?

That's the word around camp.

I wonder what the tooth fairy's
going rate is these days.

Is it a front or back tooth?

Back.

You get more for those, since they do
most of the heavy chewing work.

[gasps] I hadn't thought of it that way.

Usually the tooth fairy
only gives me a nickel.

I could be looking at
a whole quarter here.

This tooth is a gold mine.

Sure, provided you left
a forwarding address for the tooth fairy

at home before you came to camp.

What do you mean?

How else will the tooth fairy find you?

I assumed if I put it under my pillow,

the tooth fairy would just know
where to find it.

How? This isn't a Santa Claus situation.

He has time to keep tabs on everyone
because he only works one night a year.

And he has elves to help him out.

I hadn't thought of that.

This is exactly why I always leave
a forwarding address.

She really does.

Visits to Grandma's,
slumber parties, you name it.

[Lucy] It's just good sense!

I'm doomed.

[screams]

Maybe you could hang on
to the tooth until you get home

and put it under your pillow then?

I wouldn't want it to depreciate in value.

Why don't you write the tooth fairy
a letter with the camp's address?

That's it! Take a letter, Big Brother.

Dear tooth fairy, I'm writing
to inform you of a recent location change,

as I lost a baby tooth
and I wouldn't want you to be confused.

I understand that the going rate
for a back tooth is a quarter,

but if you prefer to give me five nickels,
or two dimes and five pennie...

I think we should stick
to the subject of location.

Good point.

You can find me at Camp Spring Lake,
Cabin B, first bunk by the back window.

All my best.

Et cetera. Sally Brown.

I'll mail this right away.

You're the best big brother ever.

A quarter is a lot of money.

I need to come up with
a responsible financial plan.

Wait. I don't know
where the tooth fairy lives.

Where am I supposed to send this?

Oh. [chuckles] Losing a tooth is just
an expression for when one falls out.

Sally still has it.

[groans]

She asked me to send a letter
to the tooth fairy,

but I don't know where to send it.

I don't wanna disappoint her.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

No, Snoopy. I'll give you the quarter,

and you can do the tooth fairy's job
by swapping it in for Sally's tooth.

[sighs] In exchange for a dog biscuit?

[chuckles]

[Sally] There.

Now all I have to do is fall asleep
and let the tooth fairy do the rest.

But what if I can't fall asleep?

What if I stay up all night?

What if... [snores]

Okay, Snoopy.

All you have to do is sneak in
and make the swap

without waking anybody up.

Got it?

This is my only quarter, so be careful.

[chuckles]

[groaning]

[yelps]

[chuckles]

It feels good
to do something nice for someone.

Thanks, pal.

I can't wait to see the look
on Sally's face tomorrow.

[gasps] The tooth fairy came.

[Sally] A dog biscuit?

This is an outrage.

This is egregious. I'll sue.

Whatever did I do to the tooth fairy
to be so wronged?

I expected cash, not snacks.

And a dog snack, no less.

I'm sure it's just an oversight.

[Sally] Take a letter!

Dear tooth fairy, I received your "gift"
in exchange for my lost tooth.

They say losing baby teeth
is a sign of becoming more mature.

Well, I feel far more mature now.

Mature and disillusioned.

Make this right.

All my best. Sally Brown.

- [exclaims]
- [chuckles]

Snoopy, you gave Sally the wrong thing.

Nuh-uh.

I remind you, a child's sense of fairness
and wonder is on the line.

[snoring]

Did you make the switch?

Well, where's the quarter?

What are we going to do?

We need to put something
under Sally's pillow.

[Sally] An IOU?

Signed by the tooth fairy?

[shrieks]

{\an8}Can you believe it?

{\an8}A handwritten IOU from the tooth fairy's
even better than a quarter.

{\an8}I may not even cash it.

{\an8}After all,
who else has the tooth fairy's autograph?

{\an8}Maybe you should frame it.

{\an8}[gasps] That's a great idea.

It'll be hard to resist cashing
an IOU for $25.

Twenty-five dollars?

That's what I get
for trusting a dog with a decimal point.

[Linus] "A Beagle Scout is: Handy.

The great outdoors.

Its beauty and tranquility is timeless."

[sighs]

[Linus] "Sadly,
not everything is quite so lasting."

[crying]

[Linus] "But a handy Beagle Scout
is always ready to step in."

[clears throat]

[Snoopy] Whoo-hoo.

[cheering]

[chatters]

[chattering]

[cheering]

[Linus] "Once a Beagle Scout learns
to be handy,

there is no problem they can't fix."

[chuckles] Swish.

[cheers]

That counts, you know.

[blowing]

Huh? My doughnut.

This is nothing but a Danish now.

[Charlie Brown grunting, straining]

Good grief.

[Linus] "But remember, being handy
doesn't mean you have to fix everything."

[chuckles]

[screaming]

[Linus]
"In other words, if it isn't broke"...

- [gasps, chuckles]
- ..."don't fix it."

[sighs]

- [sighs]
- [groans]

[groans]

[straining]

- [screaming]
- [whimpers]

[screaming]

[chuckles, cheers]

[groans]

[cheering, chuckles]

[cheering]

[Lucy] "The Chewing Gum Dilemma."

[squeaks]

- [chatters]
- [exclaims]

[chattering]

[groans]

[grumbling]

[Lucy] What an embarrassing display!

What about teamwork?
Working together? Unity?

Surely your handbook
has something to say on the subject.

{\an8}There it is in plain language.

{\an8}"Teamwork is the foundation
of any Beagle Scout troop worth its salt."

{\an8}[clamoring]

Tsk, tsk.

I know that Joe Shlabotnik
rookie card is in here somewhere.

What do you know?

A pack of gum,
and there's three pieces left.

I wouldn't wave that around unless
you've got enough to share, Charlie Brown.

The last known piece of gum
at camp got chewed days ago.

That's a prized commodity.

It's just gum. What's the big dea...

Pardon me, but was that the distinctive
sound of a gum wrapper crinkling I heard?

Perhaps I was mistaken.

[sighs]

Was that the distinctive sound
of a relieved sigh I heard?

{\an8}[Lucy] "True teamwork requires focus
and attention on one another."

[barks]

[Lucy] "Begin building these qualities
with a simple exercise in eye contact."

[snickers]

[straining]

[laughing]

[laughing]

I can't believe you're carrying
that gum around in your pocket.

I'm not convinced this place is
as gum-crazy as you make it out to be.

Are you guys talking about gum?

Who's got gum?

Charlie Brown's got gum!

I sure hope you have enough
to share, Charles.

Of course he does.

This is good ol' Chuck
we're talking about.

Well, actually,
I've only got three pieces.

- This will not stand.
- Come on.

- We demand gum.
- Take it easy, everyone.

There's an obvious solution
to this dilemma.

- There is?
- Yeah.

Chuck just has to choose
his two favorite people

out of all of us to share with. Simple.

- Wait.
- That's the way to do it.

- Better not mess it up.
- Great idea.

- Works for me.
- Fair is fair.

Good grief.

[Lucy] "Teamwork is built on trust.

Properly supervised and ex*cuted,

a trust fall is a great way
to forge unity in your troop.

Just let go and drop back
into the waiting arms of your team

as a demonstration
of trust and camaraderie."

[birds grunt]

[groaning]

The whole camp is talking about
that gum of yours, Big Brother.

Don't remind me.

I don't envy you having to choose
who gets that single extra piece.

Actually, Sally, there's two extra pieces.

Well, yes, but after you share one
with me, that leaves one.

You do plan to share your gum with me,
don't you?

Your only sister. Your flesh and blood.

Surely I'm getting one.

I think I need to think about this.

As family, there is some question
of legal obligation here.

[Franklin] Shh. Here he comes.

Is that a new shirt, Charlie Brown?
Looks nice.

Are you doing something different
with your hair?

I can't help but feel all this
positive attention is gum-based.

Maybe I'm just being cynical.

Hi, gum.

[shudders]

Psst. Chuck, over here.

How's it going?

Not so good.

I guess I'm kind of responsible
for all this.

I'm really sorry.

Thanks. I appreciate that.

People can be pretty phony
when they want something.

You should make it easy on yourself.

Just give the gum
to the first person you see.

Starting now.

As in right now.

This very moment.

I want that gum, Chuck.

- [screams]
- [children clamoring]

- There's no way.
- I'm Charlie Brown's favorite.

- [Franklin] He's gonna give it to me.
- [Naomi] No, me!

I can't stand it!

I wish I'd never found
the gum in the first place!

[Lucy] "Teamwork is built on communication
in pursuit of a common goal.

To test this, have the troop guide
a blindfolded comrade

through an obstacle course
using their voices."

[chattering]

[Lucy] "Speaking one at a time will be key
to demonstrating teamwork."

[all chattering]

Whoa.

[whimpering, screams]

[clamoring, grunting]

[sighing]

[sighs, gasps]

[Lucy] "In the end, teamwork
is not something that can be forced."

[chattering]

[whistles]

[Lucy] "A Beagle Scout troop
truly becomes a team

when they learn to put aside differences
and work together.

And nothing brings a team together
like a common goal."

[straining]

[grunts]

[sighs]

[gasps, sighs]

[Charlie Brown] What do I do, Linus?

No matter who I pick,
the majority will be disappointed.

It's an impossible situation, all right.

But I guess that's life.

You just can't satisfy everyone.

[gasps] That's it!

- We still don't have gum.
- You don't even like gum.

Attention, everyone.

I have an announcement to make.

Quiet, everyone.

My dear, sweet brother... who would never
shy away from family obligation...

has decided what to do with his gum.

Yes, I have.

I got rid of it.

[gasps]

You did what?

I got rid of it.

The gum is gone,
and there's none for anyone.

Even me.

I figured it was better to be equal
in our disappointment

than jealous of one another,
even if it does make everyone mad at me.

- He makes a good point.
- Okay, Big Brother.

- For once, he's right.
- Who needs gum anyway?

What a kid.

You know, sometimes I think the world
could use a little more Charlie Brown.

So, what did you end up doing
with that gum?

[chewing]

[chatters]

- [gasps]
- [pops]

[snickers]

[laughing]

[jazz music playing]
