[line calling]

This is Ramon.

Yes, I see that someone came

to my apartment in the middle of the night

without my knowledge or permission

and removed items.

In the middle of the night?

Yeah, I've been home this entire time.

They came when I was sleeping

and took it out.

[Ramon] My goodness.

Yeah, but you guys have concierges.

There's always someone downstairs.

How did they get past you

without you knowing?

Someone came into the house

and took two paintings

off the wall while we were sleeping.

Find out who it was,

who was there in the evening shift.

Let's look at the cameras because

this is going to become a police matter.

I have children here. It's not a joke.

It's just so

awful. It's just awful.

What happened?

They came in the middle of the night,

while I was asleep.

-He took the pointy painting.

-That's really, really f*cking creepy.

In the night of the tiger ♪

Don't let me catch ya ♪

[Shlomo] Lunch?

Let's do it.

-Looks amazing. Thank you, Chris.

-Hello?

Okay.

[Chris] Hummus.

Yeah. They don't have the video yet.

It takes them two days to get a subpoena.

The head of one of the major crimes

detectives is coming.

Since someone took the art,

I'm literally scared to sleep at night,

knowing Silvio still had a key fob,

and that legally he owns the art,

and that he could come in,

makes me think it must be him.

'Cause how did they get up the stairs? So

Yeah, I just, I can't believe it.

It's so crazy.

we can start looking towards the future.

Miriam fulfills every checks every box,

of a closed relationship.

Is that what you want?

Question is, am I okay with it?

I don't know yet.

What do you think, Batsheva?

Weigh in please.

You just can't have it both ways.

Ha, ha!

[Ra'ed] Batsheva, if you were dating me,

I think I would have

to end things with you.

That's it? Just, like, absolute?

No, it's not absolute.

That's who you are. This is who I am.

We want different things.

You find somebody else.

And do you suggest that for Robert and I?

I don't know, maybe.

You suggest we end our relationship?

You have such fundamental differences

towards, like, sleeping with people.

I think that's tough.

That's part of your personality.

So why would you have to like,

specifically change that?

-It's who you are. It's not negative.

-Yes, that's definitely

A sl*t, that's who I am.

I'm not saying it can't be done.

I'm saying it's f*cking hard, I'm sure.

Yeah.

-[Julia] Hello!

-Hello!

-Hello, you came in at the perfect time.

-Mother, are you ready for pizza?

-Yes, I'm very r Oh!

-[laughter]

-Richard! That's a no-no.

-[Ra'ed] You can sit on Ra'ed's lap,

-Okay.

-Batsheva just suggested we break up.

-What?

-Can you believe that?

Batsheva, get out of this room

immediately! Are you crazy?

No, don't ever break up

with this gorgeousness, please.

[pop music playing]

[Robert] Are you guys starting

to feel a little relaxed?

[Julia] Yes.

-To family!

-To family! Love!

-[Ra'ed] Money!

-Good times!

To business.

To going up when other people go down.

I heard you were going on dates

and fully messing around with people?

-Like, having sex?

-Yeah.

Yeah. For a while now.

I can't help

but eavesdrop on this conversation.

-My sex life?

-Wait, I wanna hear.

-It goes into

-My mom knows all this.

Oh, that you squirt?

God! No! Closing down this conversation.

By the way, all three of us do.

-[Robert] Oh my God! Yes!

-[screams] Bring the pizza! No.

[Julia] It's a family thing.

I was so shocked

the first time I squirted.

Miriam's like, "I squirted!"

Batsheva's like, "I squirted!"

-I'm like, "Oh my God, it's a family"

-Oh my gosh!

I'm not okay with this!

-It's the super-soaker Brady Bunch.

-Ew!

It's the Bellagio fountain.

I'm not telling you anything anymore.

-Wow, it looks beautiful.

-Thank you.

-[Ra'ed] Wow! So hungry!

-[Batsheva] Damn.

Oh my God, look at my plate.

It's probably more than

I've eaten in five days.

[Ra'ed] By the way, I scouted

the whole restaurant. There's not one g*y.

The nearest g*y club

is, like, 30 minutes away.

-A g*y club? I wanna go.

-[Ra'ed] Yeah, can we go?

There are drag queens.

-Let's go!

-I wanna go, I wanna go!

-How far is it? Troop?

-It's 30 minutes. I know.

[laughing]

"I've been there while you're sleeping."

Seriously. Probably.

Would you like to respond

to that accusation?

Obviously, I don't wanna get into,

like, sensitive issues.

-Personal issues.

-I don't feel any sensitivity.

Ah ha h*! Boom!

I wanna be her.

-Yeah.

-Teach me how to be her.

That's amazing.

I don't know how to be like her.

-I don't either.

-She's great at dismissing.

She's great at walking away

when she doesn't wanna hear something

and doesn't care

if the other person cares or not.

Wow! Am I in trouble?

Obviously, I thought it was

very insensitive for you to tell me

to break up with my boyfriend

'cause that's obviously

I didn't tell you to break up! I said

that it could work, but it'll be harder.

It's a sensitive topic when we're playful

and being playful, I get it. It's fun.

But it's just insensitive for me.

My mission is to really secure

the love of my life

You know, for the next topic.

Nathalie, how's tennis?

-[Batsheva] I see.

[Ra'ed] Oh my God,

Batsheva is annoying me a bit.

Um, well, this is the point though.

[Ra'ed] What?

She seems not turnt up about it

but you do.

-So

-That's why it's hard. I can't have a

-You can't let go

-I've been trying to control myself.

[Batsheva] Who brought

butter snap pretzels? My mom?

[Robert] Mm. Not sure.

[tense music playing]

-I love you, have fun. Bye.

-Love you guys. Bye.

Unfortunately. Nathalie has

to leave the trip early because

she has a tennis match

that she doesn't wanna miss.

[Julia] Robert!

-[Miriam] Rob?

-[Robert] Yeah?

-[Miriam] My mom's calling you.

-Rob, I need you, babe.

My lawyer is asking for

the proof that, uh, Jefferies valued us

between up to past 600 million.

That's in the very beginning

when they started with us. When was that?

[Miriam] You hot, buddy?

What are you looking for?

Look it up. Miriam, I need my

-Computer, iPad?

-The one that has Elite.

I think, as much as my mom

wants to be able to relax,

she is just unable to do that right now.

Hopefully, she'll be able to enjoy it

once Aron gets here.

They have this very strong bond because

they have a very similar personality.

So I think having all of us together

will really make her happy.

[Miriam] Okay, I'm gonna go to sleep.

-[Julia] Love you.

-Love you. I'm feeling super tired.

[Batsheva] Can I come with you?

I'm also tired.

-Good night. Love you, guys.

-[Batsheva] Gonna go sleep with Miriam.

-[Robert] Good night.

-[Batsheva] Love you, guys.

[pop music playing]

-Aron?

-It's Aron.

-[Julia] Aron!

-[Robert] Aron! Yay!

[chuckling]

-Mm!

-[Robert] Richard!

-[Aron] Richard.

-[Robert] Do you see Aron?

You're really in the middle of nowhere.

[chuckles]

[Robert] Richard, come.

-[Aron] Hey, Mother.

-[Julia] Hello, my son.

I missed your face.

Honestly, seeing that

sweet face after everything

that's gone on the last week and a half,

it's such a shot in the arm for me.

Just his presence brings me so much joy.

I'm just happy to be with him.

[Julia] Which room is Aron's?

[Robert] Yeah, we moved him

and Shlomo into this room.

How was Shabbos?

It was nice.

[Julia] You're staying the whole week?

I haven't seen you in 800 years.

[whispers] And Silvio's not there.

You can have Shabbos.

You can have friends over.

[Aron] Now that my mom divorced Silvio,

I'm glad to be with my mom here now.

I haven't seen her in a bit.

I think this is the first time that we're

-[Batsheva] Aron!

-[Aron] Sissy.

-Hello, when did you get in?

-Okay. Last night. Went to Shabbat.

-You're not even moving to give me a hug.

-I did. I put my hand.

-It's a one-way hug.

-I can't.

Lovely. Thanks a lot. So nice to see you.

[Miriam] Batsheva, you were

a very cute sleeper last night.

-[Batsheva] Was I?

-[Miriam] You tried cuddling with me.

-No way.

-[Miriam] Way!

-No way.

-Yeah.

[laughs]

Like, you tried spooning me.

At first, I moved away. But there

was nowhere to move, so I accepted.

-Was I sweet?

-[Miriam] A little aggressive.

-I wasn't expecting it.

-[Batsheva] A little aggressive? Oh God.

[pop music playing]

No, come on. You can do better than that.

I'll teach you something.

-Chords, okay?

-[Aron] Mm-hmm.

[plays chord]

-Five chord.

-Wow.

-Then this is a major four chord.

-[plays chord]

And then back to

Guess who has food.

[all] Ooh!

We're having barbecue,

which Aron can't eat.

[Julia] Just to be extra cautious.

This will make him happy.

So I brought kosher food,

kosher dishes, kosher pots and pans.

Because none of his ovens are kosher,

Robert was so lovely,

he bought the toaster oven, so we could

heat up food for Aron in there as well.

We're basically coming

as if we're staying for three months,

but that's what happens

when you travel with a kosher person.

[Julia] Put the non-kosher food

on this side.

But guys, if you touch anything

with it from here, use different forks

[Ra'ed] Okay.

-for your kosher stuff so you don't

-[Ra'ed] Got it.

[Shlomo] Here's a salad.

[Julia] Don't dekosherfy his food, please.

[indistinct chatter]

Mm!

How was everyone's sleep?

I slept for like six hours

which is not bad for me.

This is baba ghanoush, by the way.

-Is that white fish?

-[Miriam] Yeah.

Yum.

[Julia] I've been up since 6:30.

The lawyers needed

all these things answered.

And it's just back

into the whole writing stuff.

My mom needs some time to relax,

and hang out in Connecticut,

and not have to think

about all the stress in her life.

But she doesn't seem

to be able to stop working 24/7.

It's really concerning.

Okay, well, I set the table

so someone else has to clean it.

[Aron saying a Hebrew prayer]

-[Ra'ed] Take it out?

-[Julia] Yeah.

[continues praying]

[pop music playing]

Richie!

This is a big stick.

[Miriam laughs]

-[Miriam] I'm gonna light this on fire.

-[Robert] Perfect.

But you wanna light

where it says "light here."

Yeah.

[Miriam laughs]

So you like being out here,

or don't like being out here?

It could be worse.

[chuckles]

-[Robert] True, it could be worse.

-[Aron] Could be worse.

What did you think of the discussion

with the whole family?

-The open relationship?

-What does that mean, open relationship?

Where you can It depends,

different people define it differently.

It can mean you can have sex

with other people or date other people.

[Aron] Then you're not really dating

if you're dating other people.

Well, there's more than one way

to be dating one person.

I'm trying to be open-minded about it.

But the more I talk about it,

the more closed-minded I become.

Just because I start thinking

too much about it,

and then I start ascribing

too much emotion to it.

Being in a relationship that's

this committed is very, very new for me.

And I feel like Ra'ed just wants me

to, like, jump into the most

out-of-the-box relationship I can think of

which is this, like, open, no rules,

fully committed,

but not committed situation.

I think he thinks I'm gonna change.

Maybe this surgery is gonna make me

more driven, high sex drive.

-[Aron, chuckling] Bye.

-[Robert] Yeah.

-[Miriam] Okay.

-[Robert] Sorry.

-Bye.

-Bye, love you.

[Robert] Love you, mean it.

[Miriam] I've talked of this with Nathalie

and she would have stress sometimes that

like, if she turns me down,

'cause she's just tired one night

or something like that,

then she feels bad.

Is that a stress you have?

You don't wanna f*ck as much as he does,

and you feel bad about it?

Yeah. It's even worse than that

because I say, "No."

He says, "Okay," gets on Grindr,

and finds someone else.

Sometimes it makes me feel,

like, I'm not enough,

or he needs to get something

from someone else.

Which isn't a great feeling.

I think what scares me

about committing to Ra'ed is,

I'm gonna go down this road,

I'm gonna put everything I can

into this relationship,

and then on one of his Grindr dates,

he finds someone he likes better,

and I'm sh*t out of luck.

Long-term, I'm just not sure if I'm gonna

be okay with something this open.

Well, you know,

we have this double date thing.

-These boys coming here tonight.

-Right.

[Robert] I mean, yeah.

I don't know one of them.

-But the one I met, very attractive.

-Yeah.

But I guess it's more just a worry of,

what is his expectation.

Have you spoken about this with Ra'ed?

I don't think he can change

because it's, like, his biology.

For him, it's

I know it's an emotionless thing.

And, you know, he genuinely believes

-that this is the correct way.

-Right.

And I genuinely believe

I don't think it's right for me.

Right.

I'm just, like

-I'm not sure we're gonna get there.

-[Miriam] Hmm.

[pop music playing]

[Julia] Why are you wearing

your jacket in here? Are you cold?

Hmm.

-Comfortable.

-Comfortable in a jacket?

Mm-hmm.

-You wanna sweatshirt? I've got some.

-That's okay.

frumy thing?

-No?

-No.

-Just a comfortable thing.

-Hmm-mm.

I'm noticing Aron is definitely less,

you know, engaged with the other kids,

his siblings, and with me.

You know, he came in his black hat

and his yeshiva bochur suit

as opposed to what

he would've come in three months ago,

which would've been jeans and a T-shirt.

It's worrying me a lot.

[doorbell rings]

-[laughing]

-[Batsheva] Hello. Sorry. Oh God, Richard!

My mom mentioned multiple times

throughout the past few weeks that

she just wants to meditate,

and these are words

that I've never heard her say ever.

So I thought I'd be a good idea

to bring a sound bath to us.

It's supposed to help calm you,

have tranquility,

and I hope that this helps her relax.

That's all I want to do is help her relax.

Okay. Are you ready?

-[dryly] Yes.

-[chuckling]

[Shlomo] Very convincing.

Well guys, I mean unfortunately percussion

is not gonna help me win a case in court.

[sighs]

-Sheva, this was a great idea.

-Thank you.

[Kelly breathing deeply]

Close your eyes and go inside.

Be with your breath and be in your body.

[mystic music playing]

[Kelly] Breathe.

The rise and fall of your chest.

This is your natural filtration system.

This is about being

right here and right now.

[plays sound cylinders]

[Julia] I just got a frightening text

from my lawyers.

My heart is going like this,

and my hands are shaking, and I'm sweaty.

-[plays ocean drum, interrupts]

-It's really cool. I'm so sorry.

I feel so bad.

I don't mean to interrupt everybody.

I'm really under attack,

and I need to defend myself.

We're doing the sound thing,

and my lawyers send me this message saying

that Silvio's defense is claiming that

in EWG, my ownership is null and void.

He's claiming that I own, like, less than

point one percent of the company.

I stop the whatever that sound thing was,

which was actually really cool,

and I would've enjoyed it

if my mind was not focused on

"Oh my God!

Am I going to lose everything?"

Thank you so much.

Thank you, really.

I would love to do that again when

my, you know,

when my life isn't on the line.

Now I need to find every email

where he says I'm a co-owner.

I need to find every text

where he says I'm a co-owner.

I need to show that he has been telling

people for the last three years,

we have signed documents.

We have emails and texts

where he constantly confirms

that I am co-owner.

So now this relaxing getaway

is officially kaput.

Aron, did you enjoy

our family getaway together?

Yeah.

-[Batsheva] Right? It was so nice.

-Mm-hmm.

[Batsheva] You weren't paying attention

properly during the sound bath though.

-Were you?

-I spied on you a little.

If you were spying,

you weren't paying attention.

I was paying attention. I wasn't scrolling

through my phone like you were.

[Ra'ed] You scrolled through your phone?

-You rude 15-year-old, rebellious kid.

-[Batsheva] I know, right?

Do you scroll during your prayers?

Your Jewish prayers?

Oh, I would never do that.

[Ra'ed] You want me to go down

and carry stuff with you?

[Batsheva] Uh, sure.

[Aron] Just get my bag.

-Bye, Rob.

-[Robert] Bye, guys.

-Bye.

-[Batsheva] Thank you.

[Robert] Thank you again for coming.

-I hope you come back

-[Batsheva] Thank you.

in the summer

with the pool and the tennis court.

[Batsheva] We're definitely coming back.

-[Ra'ed] I'm taking the garbage.

-[Robert] Drive safe home.

-[Batsheva] Thank you.

-[Aron] We'll try.

[upbeat music playing]

Batsheva! Miriam!

[Batsheva] What?

[Julia] Come to the kitchen.

What are we doing

with the Aron situation, guys?

Six months ago, he was keeping Shabbos,

keeping beautiful religious,

all that stuff,

without any

of the extremist things, right?

Aron was, like,

really modern in the summertime.

-He was totally fine.

-[Miriam] He was hanging out with friends.

He was doing his thing,

but he was still modern.

-Modern in his head.

-He'd hug his friends that were girls.

He was supposed to travel with us.

-He doesn't wanna hang out with us.

-He doesn't wanna hang out anymore.

It felt kind of awkward

with Aron in Connecticut.

All my kids are worried about him.

They feel him removing himself from them.

It's scary.

We need to

-Do you know what happened with Nathalie?

-No. He used to love Nathalie.

-You wanna know what happened?

-Oh no.

Nathalie was working in the kitchen,

and then Aron came in, and then

she went to hug him, and he backed away.

She went to fist bump him. That's not

super direct. She thought it'd be okay.

And he took a plastic bag, put it

in between, and then fist bumped her.

-No!

-[Miriam chuckles]

-[Batsheva] Cringe.

-[Shlomo] Yeah.

[Julia] Oh my God.

[Batsheva] I'm definitely

concerned with how

strong-minded he is

in this new stand on religion.

Until this point, I've never seen him

be like that, and it makes me sad.

I think that we're all

trying to do our part

to continue having a relationship with him

even though it is more challenging

that he has these

different viewpoints than us.

He is only 15. I know you're saying

that you're super scared,

but he's got a long time

of growth ahead of him.

-No.

-[Shlomo] I think it's just a phase.

-It is a phase!

-[Miriam] But thing is

But the phase is gonna keep growing

-At that age, I started to be modern.

-Exactly.

There's been a massive change with Aron.

You know, he was becoming

a modern Orthodox Jew.

I realized why I stopped

talking to girls, watching TV

wasn't for the right reasons.

I was doing what my friends said

was right, not what actually is right.

-So now, what does this mean?

-This means I'll speak to girls.

Yay! And television?

-With Mother. I won't watch it by myself.

-With Mother? Excellent.

And he is literally now

ten times more religious

than my ex-husband.

It's really crazy.

I'm at a loss. Like, you know me,

I'm not usually at a loss.

I am at a loss

because I cannot lose my child.

-I don't wanna lose my brother.

-You don't wanna lose your brother.

I don't wanna lose my son.

[upbeat music playing]

[Ra'ed] What are we gonna order? Should we

order something or give them leftovers?

-Is there anything in there we can make?

-We definitely have a charcuterie board.

Really? Oh, we've got the cheeses?

-How many?

-Fried fish ba*ls.

-You'll have jokes for that.

-Great content with fried fish ba*ls.

Great content. Do that.

Tonight is a pivotal moment

in our relationship.

We're meeting these two guys.

Like, tonight determines

if I'm ever gonna

be open to any of the things

he's wanting me to be open to.

[Robert] I think we need a little

liquid courage.

[coughing]

Blah!

[gags]

[knocking on door]

[Steve] Hello?

-Hey! Good to see you.

-Good to see you.

-How are you?

-Good. Nice to see you.

-Thank you for having us.

-Thank you for coming. I'm Rob.

-We haven't met.

-This is Devon.

-Nice to meet you.

-Hello, gentlemen!

-Here he is. Hi, good to see you.

-How are you?

-Good, thanks.

-[Ra'ed] Excellent. How are you doing?

-[Steve] Show us around.

-[Ra'ed] You guys wanna do a little tour?

-[Steve] We would love that.

-Do the tour.

The tour. This is why I was obsessed

with the property. There's a hot tub.

-[Steve] Amazing.

-We have a rule for the hot tub.

-Okay.

-[Ra'ed] Clothing prohibited.

[Steve] Music to my ears.

Two bathrooms, right next to each other.

That one has an amazing bidet,

aims right into your as*h*le, amazing.

-[Robert] That's why it's the boys.

-That's boys. [laughs]

Everyone can just take a turn

on the bidet.

-How fabulous.

-I love that.

[Steve] Listen, if you stay ready.

The shower, you can fit multiple people.

[Ra'ed] I wanna be able

to sing and dance in my shower.

My neighbors hear. I'm just that queen

Mariah. Are you a f*cking Mariah queen?

[Steve] Yes, of course, I'm a lamb so

-Ahh!

-This guy.

It's kismet time.

It's kismet! I love it.

It's serendipity, I would say.

-Okay, enough.

-[Robert] As she fills it up.

-Here we go.

-Cheers.

-Cheers.

-Thank you.

-Thank you, guys.

-All right.

Okay.

-Richard, do you want a shot?

-Are you as flexible as Richard?

[laughter]

It'll take some time,

but yeah, I get there.

[laughter]

So Devon, when you heard

that Steve had met a couple at a dog park,

and we wanted you to come

to Connecticut, what did you think?

-I was, like, "Here we go again."

-[Robert] Really?

[laughing]

-[Robert] That's how I always am.

-You guys have an open relationship.

Um, not completely.

Did y'all have a moment where

you were like, "This is what I like"?

"This is what I want.

This is what I need to be happy"?

What's funny is I feel

we've had several moments like that.

We, at least annually, have, like,

a sit-down for real conversation.

-Like, a check-in.

-[Robert] A check-in?

-We're trying to talk about

-We're figuring it out.

What am I comfortable with basically?

Because he's open to anything.

I think my biggest thing was him meeting

somebody that he likes more than me

and being upset about that. But, um

No, I feel the same way.

And so part of my fear

was, why are you with me

if you wanna be with everyone else?

It's sometimes embarrassing.

There's no question

that this is the love of my life.

I don't want him uncomfortable. I'll do

everything to make him comfortable.

Devon, let me ask you, do you partake

in the open side of the relationship?

I know the answer for Steven.

So I'm not asking you.

[chuckling]

Not Not really. Not as much.

-Devon and Robert have a lot in common.

-We're very similar.

I'm definitely nervous and definitely

I have I feel less in control.

Mm-hmm.

-We can try.

-[Robert] You can try.

-I'm trying now.

-[Ra'ed] I'm trying.

That's what partnership is all about.

[Robert] This has been

a really good night.

Steven and Devon are definitely farther

along in their open relationship journey.

But I'm really relieved to hear that

they've gone through the same issues,

and I'm inspired that

they've been able to make it work.

They're a beautiful and happy couple.

What I'm realizing is, if you love someone

and you're committed,

you find a way to make it work.

So I might be open to the idea

of hooking up,

which is not at all what I expected.

Well, I think it's nice to see

that it's an ongoing conversation.

Can we have a cheers

to open g*y modern relationships?

-To new friends.

-[Steve] Thank you so much for having us.

-Cheers.

-[Devon] You guys are so sweet.

-[Ra'ed] You guys are so sweet

-[Robert] Cheers.

[Ra'ed] How about we play truth or dare.

Take it off!

[Robert] We'll see.

-[Ra'ed] We'll see! [vocal riff]

-[Robert] Let the tequila take its effect.

[upbeat music playing]

[Julia] Yum!

What is this?

This is a beef pot pie,

and it's made with the kosher puff pastry.

-[Aron] Thank you.

-Thank you, Chris.

-Thanks, Chris.

-This looks amazing.

-Does look good. Should we dig in?

-[Julia] Yeah. Let's dig in.

What's going on? You were telling me about

this business that you're trying to do.

What's going on? How can I help?

Yes, I make videos.

Inspirational Jewish videos.

Trying to get people

to have a greater connection. Hashem.

If you want to,

you should intern with a producer.

You can really learn great skills

that you can then use in your company.

-I don't really have the time.

-You don't have the time? Are you curious?

-No.

-[Julia] No?

What do you wanna do this summer?

Israel.

Are you gonna go on the traveling camp

with your friends?

No.

So where do you wanna stay?

With Bubbe and Poppy.

With Bubbe?

Aron visits my parents.

And on one hand that's great.

I want him to have a relationship with

his grandparents, but on the other hand,

these are people who won't speak to me,

who won't acknowledge my existence

because I'm not religious.

And I live a very irreligious lifestyle.

So it kind of hurts that

that doesn't bother him at all.

The other thing about it that worries me

is being around them.

That's just going to reinforce

that extremist version of Judaism.

I've already lost the rest of my family,

except for my children,

because of religion.

And I'm really scared

that I'm gonna lose Aron too.

[sucks teeth]

Um

What's going on in school? Catch me up.

School is good. My friends are good.

[Julia chuckles] School is good.

Friends are good. Good!

Are you happy where you are?

Now I'm happy,

but I'd rather be in a different school.

You'd rather be in a different,

a more religious school?

Yeah.

I want to be an educator.

I want to be a teacher.

This is the lifestyle I want to live.

-You wanna be a rebbe?

-Yeah, I wanna be a teacher.

You don't wanna go to college?

I never said I wouldn't go to college.

Many rabbis went to college.

So you realize that you were coming

in a more modern direction,

where you were still frum

and keeping Shabbos, which is beautiful.

But you were also gonna go

to a real college.

You wanted to live

a more mixed kind of life.

And now you wanna be

a rebbe like my brothers.

You don't wanna go to a real college.

-I'll

-It's all about Torah for you now.

You realize that that is a big shift.

Yeah, I do.

Right now, my state of happiness

is due solely to my Judaism.

-My religious faith.

-Nothing to do with family?

Obviously, I love my family.

I'm very appreciative

that I have a mother like you.

[Julia] And your siblings?

I'm saying my level of happiness

would be very different,

if it wasn't my would be on a lower level

if it wasn't for my Judaism.

You may be even happier

or have a different sense of happiness

if you allow yourself

to open up to new ideas, like,

just think about this for a second. Miriam

is your sister.

-Mm-hmm.

-And she is a l*sbian.

-Mm-hmm.

-In our world, that's bad.

I mean, Abba used to say

to Miriam all the time,

he talks about this openly,

"Miriam, you can't play sports."

"You can't sing because a man

might have bad thoughts about you."

There's in the Gemara talks

about why can't a woman sing?

Because a man can hear her voice

and get attracted to her

and have bad thoughts about her.

So my question to you is,

do you actually believe that a woman

is responsible for men's thoughts?

Or that men can control themselves?

That was a part that k*lled me

tznius thing.

So you are living in a society

that thinks what your mother does is bad.

That I uncover my hair. I walk around

like I walk around. I'm not tznius.

You have a sister who acts

in a way that in that world is also bad,

shamayim.

The world you live in, looks at the people

who are part of your family as bad people.

How can you defend that, my love?

I believe that the Torah

is God-given laws.

So if this is what God says, I believe it.

So you think it's okay?

I'll speak to my rebbe,

see what he says.

But you know the halachas.

Do you think you have your own mind.

What do you think? Do you think it's just?

As I said before, I believe in the Torah.

If this is what the Torah entitles,

then yes, I do.

The laws say that a woman

cannot be a rabbi. Is that correct or not?

There is a lot of inequity

towards women in that world, my love.

And saying, "Oh well,

I guess that's fine, because

if that's what Hashem wants,

then it's not inequity."

But I want you to think.

Today, it's still the law, my love,

that a woman can't get a divorce.

Her husband can slap her,

hang her off the apartment window,

and she still can't divorce him.

Do you think a law where women

cannot get divorced for any reason,

but a man can divorce a woman without

her permission, do you think that's just?

-Yes.

-You do. Okay.

-We can't change halacha.

-Can't change the law.

So you're saying the law is just?

-You asked me this question 20 times.

-So tell me one more time.

-The law is Wait for it.

-Yeah?

Wait for it just.

Mm-hmm.

You'll have to acknowledge

that the Aron of last summer

and the Aron of now is not the same Aron.

-I miss that Aron.

-Welp.

-I miss that Aron

-Too bad you can't love me for me.

What?

Too bad you can't love me

for the sake of me.

-What does that mean?

-You said, "I miss the old Aron."

-You mean I miss you having fun.

-I'm having fun.
