01x05 - Health Is Wealth

Post by bunniefuu »

[Waves crashing]

[Jigar] How can you
be so silly, Diksha?

Don't you know? The water
in the beaches is so filthy here.

What was the need
to take him there?

Let's do this, Jigar.
Let's lock our child in an AC room.

- Yes, actually...
- I am joking, Jigar.

This is why you and
I can't be together.

Try to understand one thing.

I want my child
to be one with nature.

Okay? Matter closed.

- You know what? I am so done with you.
- [Diksha] Just shut up.

[Meira] We used to
get drenched in rains.

And play in mud.
And eat roadside snacks too.

At that time health
wasn't such a big issue.

But nowadays everybody is paranoid.
And it's justified too.

Because the mother who has kept wet cloth
on her child's forehead the whole night,

the mother who has stopped her tears
on seeing 103 degrees temperature,

that mother knows that...

...there is no bigger
hell than a child who is ill.

[Alarm ringing]

[Diksha] Everyone,
gently open your eyes.

How does everybody feel?

[Meira] It was a great session.

- [Meira] I never did Reiki.
- [Diksha] Really? It's very effective.

In fact, since past three days,
I have been doing Reiki on Neeru.

But his fever is not subsiding.

Perharps I will have to
increase the intensity.

Neeru has fever since three days.
And you are doing Reiki on him.

Take him to a doctor.

[Diksha] Priety, you know that I
don't believe in these western acts.

Diksha, he is a kid.
What if the case worsens?

Guys, I believe
in alternative medicine only.

The rest is a big pharma
conspiracy.

- They only want to make money.
- [Chuckles]

And you all know, right?

Nowadays, doctors
have become businessmen.

They don't have patients anymore.
They have customers.

Ajo, did you hear?

There is an outbreak
of chicken pox in the school.

Thank God Shaista had chickenpox
when she was really little.

[Namrata] Who wants their kid to fall sick
in the middle of the unit test?

In our family, we follow home remedies.
All natural.

[Meira] But still,
take him to the doctor.

Guys, I agree with Meira.
I have twins.

When one falls sick
the other develops sympathy illness.

Whatever, guys. Look.

I am sorry. No chemicals
are entering my child's body.

Aataman has never had chickenpox.

Ouch.

He will miss the unit test.

[Namrata] And his average
will drop.

How did this happen?

How the f**k did this happen?

You!

You and your home remedies.

You did all this for
100% attendance, right?

100% attendance?

I heard you that day.
You were boasting.

Whether my children get
any other award or not...

...but they will definitely
get 100% attendance award.

- Ajo.
- You shut up!

[Anuja] At the cost
of infecting the whole school.

Ajo, check your blood pressure.

I am warning you!
I am warning you!

If Aataman gets chickenpox
because of your children...

- Chickenpox?
- You shut up I said.

Your kids are not going
to graduate.

I am on to you.

[Diksha] She is crazy.

- Why was she shouting so much?
- Disturbed all the energy.

Oh God! Whether my
children get it or not,

but please don't let
Ajo's children get chickenpox.

[Anuja] Dr. Verma,
shall I bring them to the hospital?

- [Mahisha] Mama.
- Okay. The injections.

- Show me.
- What are you doing?

You got chickenpox
when you were a kid. So go.

Aatu.

One minute. Aatu.

Meira!

Mama, see what has
happened to Nikhil.

[Meira] What happened?

Oh God!

Ajo is going to k*ll me.

- [Anmol] What happened?
- Look.

[Anmol] Whoa!
What the hell happened to you?

- What is this red thing?
- Chickenpox.

- Red spots.
- Chickenpox.

Chickenpox?

[Phone ringing]

[Anmol's Mother] Meira,
how are the kids?

Did you take them to
the temple for chickenpox?

[Meira] One had it in the morning.
Now all three of them have it.

Once Anmol comes,
I will get some help.

No. Don't let him come home.

He had not got chickenpox
in childhood.

[Anmol] Baby, I can't come home.

Chickenpox is extremely
dangerous for adults.

Anmol, how will I handle
three sick children?

- Shall I call mom?
- No. I will manage.

[Meira] Stop it. You will
get marks. Don't do it.

- [Maid 1] Ma'am, I am leaving.
- Where?

Ma'am, I had seen it in my
village once. I am really scared.

- The kids are sick. Please stay.
- I will come after three weeks.

- Hey!
- [Maid 1] Bye.

So your husband
is afraid of sh**ting blanks?

- What do you mean?
- You know, chickenpox.

It affects men's sperm count.

- Sperm count?
- Yeah.

- No way.
- Yes.

- That's why he disappeared.
- [Giggling]

Three children.
How many more does he want?

Poor guy must be scared.
Let him be missing. Let him be like that.

Listen, Aakash. Thanks for coming.
It's been so hard.

You are most welcome.

You didn't know that
Timmy is diabetic?

No.

He is just 10 years old.

Juvenile diabetes and childhood obesity
is quite common these days.

[Doctor 1] Due to lifestyle.
And sometimes due to genetics.

If anyone in your family had it,
then the kids will also inherit it.

You will have to
take good care of Timmy.

Will he be fine?

[Doctor 1] I am going
to prescribe some medicines.

And you will have to give
him insulin injections everyday.

- Everyday?
- [Doctor 1] Yeah.

[Doctor 1] Only then
can you reverse it.

[Paper tearing]

[Door opens]

Hey, Priety!

- [Meira] What are you doing here?
- Are you okay, Priety?

[Meira] What happened?

Timmy has juvenile diabetes.

Yes.

[Sobbing]

He has to take insulin
injections lifelong.

What kind of life will he have?

Priety, don't worry.

Nowadays, there are
many kinds of treatment available.

Priety, diabetes
is a lifestyle disease.

[Aakash] With little
discipline, you can reverse it.

- Be strict with your kids.
- [Aakash] Yes.

Slackness won't work. Okay?

You have to do it.
Everything will be fine. Don't worry.

Maybe it's time you put
aside those alternative therapies.

And give him proper medicine.

But Aakash, I have never
given Neeru any chemicals.

What if he doesn't react properly?

Listen. I respect
your earth mother attitude.

But realise that your principles
are not more important than your child.

- Stop being so stubborn.
- I am not being stubborn.

And don't behave like you are perfect.
Don't you ever make mistakes?

Firstly, stop shouting
at me like I am your husband.

Secondly, I have sent you
the doctor's number. Call him.

Give your son some medicine.
He will be healthy.

[Anuja] I will prove that...

...Meira's son has spread
chickenpox to everyone.

He is the germinator.
Patient zero.

Where are you going?

Aatu is seriously ill.

The doctor has given him
medicine and he is sleeping.

[Giggling]
What's the use of sitting here?

No crisis will befall if
you don't go to the club for a day.

You have started again.

You know,
I can so easily stop this.

- Just say when.
- Don't you dare to push me out.

I am not one
of your bloody PTA mummies.

[Kunal] Glad you made it, guys.

- [Aakash] Hello.
- [Kunal] Hey, guys.

Our wives are always
busy with girl bonding.

- I thought today we should try.
- [Aakash] Yeah.

[Tarun] All the kids are ill.
There is a curfew at home.

Time to blow off some steam.

What are you doing here?
I thought you were one of the girls.

Anmol, I don't have
any time management issues.

I manage both roles really well.

Yeah. I can see that.

Which is why you feel the need to
help other people's wives, right?

Somebody has got to help them.

How will poor girls manage alone?

You have chickened out.

- Bad pun.
- [All giggling]

- Aakash, how are the kids?
- They are good.

- Tara is so cute.
- Yeah.

I mean, she is such a cute kid.
Give her my love.

I definitely will.
Thank you so much, Uncle Kunal.

And thankfully,
both have recovered quickly.

But Nikhil and Arjun are
unfortunately not doing too well.

Where did this come from?

- I have prepared dinner.
- Boring food, mom.

You have prepared dinner
meant for sick people.

I thought I will
order some Gulab Jamun.

You don't get diabetes
by eating sweets.

It's a myth.

Timmy has got diabetes.
He is getting insulin injections.

And you are ordering sweets.

He fell ill because
of eating all this.

Our son is hale and hearty.
What problem do you have?

I don't want to hear anything.

Only healthy food is going
to be prepared in this house.

If you don't want to eat,
then don't.

If you starve for a few days,

it's not going to make any difference
to your hale and hearty body.

Today, I have made broccoli soup at home.

- Soup?
- Shall I clear this away? Aunt.

- Hey! Fine.
- Yes, ma'am.

- [Gaurav] Serve soup.
- Nobody will eat.

- [Priety] Everybody will starve.
- [Gaurav] Priety.

Why didn't you come?

But I missed you.

It will be nice to see you.

What are you doing tomorrow?

Is it?
[Giggling]

[Aakash] Okay. I will call you back.
Yeah. Alright.

What's up, Anmol?

You know, Aakash, you carry
this single dad image perfectly.

Perhaps that's why you miss
out the subtleties of marriage.

Anmol...

- I didn't mean to...
- [Anmol] I understand.

Just because I am from Kanpur,
it doesn't mean I am a chauvinist.

Or I want my wife to stay at home.

[Anmol] Or whatever preconceived
notions you have about us.

There is a proverb at our place.

Marriage runs on two wheels.

In your language,
Meira and I are partners.

Equals.

She understands that
one of us needs to be healthy.

If I also fall sick like the kids,
who will go to office?

Who will earn?

After all, not everybody sits
at home and designs computer games.

I think you are mistaken.

Aakash, you don't understand
the unspoken things

about a family.

[Anmol] It's not to
be discussed over drinks.

You might pretend
to be a feminist to look cool.

But really.

It's a recent friendship
and you think you have the right to

give your expert commentary
on me and Meira.

I accept it.

It's my fault. And I am sorry.

[Aakash] Some friendly advice.

When kids fall ill...

...you forget all rationalities

and practicalities.

All that is left is anger.

Why didn't you spend time
with those three sick children?

[Aakash] Just a friendly advice.
And I didn't mean anything else.

Cheers.

[Door opens]

- Hey.
- What are you doing here?

You will catch an infection.
As it is, I am having a tough time.

- The maid also ran away.
- Forget it. Here. Soup.

But the kids cannot eat all this.

There is Khichdi for
them and momos for you.

[Anmol] There is a tiffin service in
my office. He will deliver food here.

You don't have to cook
on top of all this. Okay?

Here.

I hate our kids.

I know it's tough.
But you are doing great.

[Mouthing]

- Listen. I am going to come and help.
- No way.

If you fall ill, I will have to
handle not three but four children.

You go. Thanks for the momos.

- Are you sure?
- Yes.

[Anmol] Okay. Call me if there is anything,
medicine...

Go. Just go.

- Please. Love you.
- Love you.

[Door closes]

[Toy squeaking]

Meira, you went to sleep
without having dinner.

Wake up, sweetie.

I forgot to bring you custard.

I am very tired.
I don't want to eat.

You go. Or else you
will catch an infection.

It's okay.

It doesn't matter.

Whose T-shirt is this?

Whose T-shirt is this, Meira?

It's Aakash's. Khichdi fell on it.
I told him to take it off.

Here? In the room?

[Meira] No.

Did he go home without clothes?

Don't be silly.
I gave him your T-shirt.

My T-shirt? But why?

We had gone to the doctor.

Then he was helping me
and Khichdi fell on him.

That's why.

Great! Write his name
on our house's nameplate too.

Come on, Anmol.
I am handling everything alone.

You got time after three days.
And then also you want to fight.

Meira, you are behaving like we were
not taking care of our children

before Aakash came.

[Anmol] As if they grew up
without a father.

That they have got a new father.

- Why are you aggravating the matter?
- I am not aggravating it.

He was insulting me
in front of everybody.

That he helps you more than me.

Are you upset because
he spoke the truth...

...or because he spoke
it in front of everybody?

Great! You also think like him.

[Anmol] I am a useless
father and a useless husband.

And he is better than me. Right?

Now listen, Anmol. Please leave.
Or else you will catch an infection.

- Okay? You go now.
- [Anmol] Yeah. I am going.

Tell him to dry clean
my shirt and give it.

[Toy squeaking]

[Namrata] So, both of you...

I mean, you did it.

[Giggling]

She is perfect.

Oh well, yes!

She is married.

Are we judging now?

Well...

All of us look for love.

But when we don't get it,
we sometimes...

You know...

I used to think I am very happy
to be Naksh's and Tara's papa.

[Aakash] Life is full.

But when she is around...

So...

She is the one.

Maybe. Don't get me wrong.

I never felt my family
was incomplete. But...

For the first time,

I feel complete.

Yeah! I know what you mean.

Actually, this is what
Kunal and I used to think.

And then Shaista came in our life.

[Namrata] Everybody
has their own bliss. Right?

Like Shaista is mine.

- Both of us deserve to be parents.
- Yeah.

- And we did it.
- Exactly.

- Didn't we?
- Absolutely.

Today, in the school when they were
talking about the blood test...

...and family illness
and all of that,

I realised I don't
know anything about Shaista.

I mean, she is not my...

You know,
I don't know about her blood.

But I was there when she
caught cold for the first time.

And when she got fever, I used to keep
wet cloth on her forehead the whole night.

When she got measles, I have counted
each measles spot on her face.

- Shaista is a very lucky girl.
- Yeah.

So are you.

- Cheers.
- Cheers.

[Traffic sound]

You win.

[Diksha] You all win.

I am admitting Neeru
in the hospital.

Everybody will find out
that I am such a bad mother.

D, don't say that.

[Door opens]

- Will Neeru be fine?
- Don't worry. He will be alright.

I have given him medicines.

But why did you guys
bring him so late?

[Doctor 2] He could
have got pneumonia.

Anyway, we will take care of him.

- Thank you.
- Thank you, doctor.

Your careless behaviour.

You know what? You are right.

I am not a good mother.

Because of my obstinacy, I
have endangered our child's health.

He should not stay with me.

Keep Neeru with you.

You and your parents
can raise him in a better way.

I am a bad mom.

Say this in court.

No court.
Just keep him with you.

[Door opens]

[Meira] Mommies don't
have the right to make mistakes.

Their small weakness
becomes a big mistake.

Because moms are
nurses as well as caretakers.

If she slips in these roles,
then blame game starts.

Motherhood is like a medical test.

If it slows down,
the entire machinery collapses.

Because mama doesn't even
have the right to fall sick.

There are no sick
leaves in motherhood.

Mom, you are here. Nothing
will happen to papa.

- Nothing happens to papa.
- It's not fair, mumma.

[Nikhil] I don't want to eat
the same boring Khichdi.

You are lying sick here.

I have my unit test.
Who will teach me?

Anmol, please pass the salt.

Huh?

[Sighs]

[Arjun] Mumma.

It's so dirty.

What is this dust?

Don't you clean it?

What are all these dirty toys?
Remove it.

Won't kids fall ill?
Take it all out. Remove it.

Get it cleaned please.

No wonder children
are getting sick.

Whoa!

Namrata.

[Anuja] I had come to catch Meira.

Meira with an I.

But Namrata... Seriously?

[Meira] If children's
physical health gets spoiled...

...then mother's mental
health gets spoiled.

Both of them are equally important.

Emotional insecurity
and competitiveness is...

...such an epidemic whose vaccine
has still not been invented.

And there is no cure for it.

[Theme song playing]
