[Ashley] And the panel have given
our magical monsters superpowers.

I'm a super monster.

Because tonight
is all about creative expression.

Hey!

We wanted to give these guys
the opportunity

to take it to the next level

and do something
completely out of this world.

[exclaims]

[Ashley] Can our monsters level up
in a world without limits?

I'm crying because I felt it.

This was your best performance.

[Ashley] Or will they crumble
under the pressure?

This is by far, the hardest challenge.

[Flame] I'm just going to keep pushing
and fighting

because we're one step closer
to that final performance.

I have to deliver a performance
that is super in every way.

[Ashley] Who has the power
to get to the final?

[upbeat music]

[audience cheering, applauding]

Welcome to Dance Monsters, the semi-final!

[audience cheering]

Give it up for our very own
Captain America,

Wonder Woman and Superman!

-It's Ne-Yo, Lele and Ashley!
-[whooping]

Tonight our monsters have been given
the most epic challenge ever.

Dance is all about creative expression,

so our monsters creativity
is being pushed to the limit

in a truly unique way.

Buckle up because our super panel
have given out superpowers.

I mean, how cool is that?

Let's welcome your semi-finalists,

our super-charged dance monsters!

[audience cheering, applauding]

Flame! How you doing?

Doing good. Feeling hot.

Beti, how are you feeling?

Oh, I am ecstatic.

We're talking supernatural levels
of excitement.

[Ashley] Amazing stuff.

And, Grummy, can we expect big things?

Oh, you can expect
gigantic things, Ashley.

-[Ashley] Okay.
-[chuckles]

So, Ashley,
tell us about this superpower challenge.

We just basically wanted
to give these guys the opportunity

to do something
completely out of this world,

and now they can use their body

to express themselves in a way
that's never, ever been done before.

I mean, that's pretty cool, right?

-Yeah, yeah.
-This is that moment.

I'm excited.

And, Ne-Yo, what are you looking for
from our monsters

to earn a place in the final?

The dance still needs to be amazing,

I still need to see the character,
the personality, the passion,

so make sure the superpower
enhances the performance

and doesn't overshadow it.

All right. You want it all.

Lele, what are you looking for?

For them to have fun
and to actually treat this

as a competition for 250,000 dollars.

[Ashley] It's a lot of cash, isn't it?

Now, I hate to break it to you,

but two monsters must leave tonight,

and there will be no dance-offs,

which means each of you will be judged
on your one and only performance.

There's just four places in our final,

which you need to fight for
by using your superpower.

It's time to get this super-powered
semi-final started.

-Off you go, monsters!
-[audience cheering, applauding]

-[Ne-Yo] All right. All right.
-[Lele] Hey!

All right!
[whoops]

Semi-final day, I'm ready.

It's time for our first
super-powered performance,

it's Hammer!

Giving them superpowers
opens up a whole new dimension.

We can then look at
how they use the powers,

-how they dance with the powers.
-We have to push them to the next level.

These performances should be epic.

[Ashley Banjo] Right, let's go!

-Hammer?
-Hammer!

I just want to see more of him.

You want to see more of him?

So why don't we see more of him?
Hammer will be able to clone himself.

So, Hammer could be one Hammer

and then suddenly,
he could be five Hammers.

Like you'd create your own dance crew.

-I like that.
-That's a dope power.

What does he have to do with his power
in order to demonstrate his creativity?

I think each clone
has to do something different,

something special.

While at the same time
synchronizing with yourself?

-Yes.
-Yeah.

If you've got five people on stage
and everybody's doing their own thing,

it just looks like a mess.

That's going to be hard.

I'm going to be able to clone myself.

This is going to be so complicated.

So for this performance,

I've got to learn
and perform five different Hammers,

which is just insane.

First Hammer walks,

two pops out and then Hammer three...

Uh...

And one...

This is definitely the hardest routine
I've had so far,

but it's the perfect opportunity
to show the panel my creativity

and that I can dance in synch.

Hammer, you're up.

-Let's go!

[Hammer] With this superpower,
I think my biggest worry

is I've got to be really precise
and in synch,

and if I'm not,
it could look really messy.

Four, five.

Getting to the final
would be a massive deal for me

so the pressure's definitely on.

[Ashley] Hoping to impress the panel
with his power to clone,

it's Hammer!

Let's go!

This is the biggest thing I've ever done.

And to be honest,
it has to be the show that I level up

and to get me to the finals.

Yeah, I enjoyed every second of it.

Panel, what did you think
of all the Hammers?

You know what I like about you?

That you don't have to do any acrobatics,

you don't have to do any tricks, nothing.

It's just you dancing and having fun.

And you have so much skill.

You were funny, like, was that you?

-You were like, really tired at one point?
-[Hammer] Yeah.

[Lele] You were like,
"No, I can't right now."

Listen, in my crew,
I'm normally the tired Hammer,

so I relate.

It ticked every box for me
and I was right there with you.

You used the superpower
to enhance your dance.

You're showing everyone,

"Listen, I want this
and I'm willing to push myself for it,"

so just keep doing what you're doing

because you gave me more
than I think we asked.

-[audience applauding]
-Listen, you have been a favorite of mine,

pretty much this entire competition,
I've got to admit.

What I'm looking for is the monster

that is going to let their superpower
be a piece of their arsenal,

as opposed to leaning on their superpower,

and I feel like you,
a million percent did that.

We're almost to the finish line, bro,

so just keep doing
exactly what you're doing,

and you might be 250,000 dollars richer
at the end of this.

I'm just saying.

All right, what a performance,
let's give a big cheer for Hammer!

You know what, at this stage
of the competition, semi-finals...

everything has to be
the highest possible level.

This is like great dance,
great use of power,

we loved it, audience loved it,
was that enough?

-Yes.

-Where's your squad?
-[Hammer] They're done.

-They're tired? Okay.
-[Hammer] Just me. Sorry, guys.

[monsters chuckling]

Throughout the competition,
we've loved watching our monsters grow,

but this is something else.

[Ashley] It's Grummy!

Right, hear me out, ready?
Grummy is a big character.

Lots of character, yes.

So what about we give him the ability
to become really big?

-So, giant Grummy?
-Grummy the giant?

[Lele] Cool. I like that.

So he needs to give us giant levels
of creative expression.

Every time he gets bigger,
his mistakes will also be super-sized.

So let's just be clear that for Grummy,
they really have to have control.

Yeah, hopefully,
he's controlled enough of a dancer...

-Yeah.
-...to really level up and pull this off.

All right. Cool.

[roaring]

[Grummy] This is incredible.

I'm a giant!

[evil laughter]

It's fun expressing myself as a giant,

but with my superpower,

you have to be pinpoint accurate
with your movement

because one wrong step

and I could step off stage,
or I could miss a cue.

There are so many things
that could go wrong.

And I'm doing a lot of tricks.

So to nail the tricks, is scary in itself.

Grummy, are you ready?

-Let's go!
-Let's go.

[Ashley] Dancing for a place in the final
with his power to supersize,

it's Grummy!

It's scary to think
that I might disappoint the judges

if I don't meet
their level of expectations.

Throughout this,
I know I've looked like a big character

that's always having fun,

but I'm taking my superpower
very seriously.

-Let's go!
-[Ashley Banjo] Let's go!

-Come on, Grummy!
-[whoops]

[Ashley] Well...

Um, how's the view from up there, Grummy?

It's pretty nice
but the air is kind of thin.

-[Ashley] Yeah.
-[audience chuckling]

-[stomping]

[Ne-Yo] He's coming... there we go.

-[Lele] Oh, there he is!
-[Ashley] Love that power.

-[audience applauding]
-Hey.

The giant on the panel,
Ashley, I'm going to come to you.

Grummy, your characterization
is always so on point,

but my issue with this performance

was that your superpower and your tricks

slightly overtook the dance for me,

and that's the bit that I was missing
slightly this time around.

I've got to agree with Ash.

This wasn't my personal favorite
performance of yours.

I've kind of grown accustomed
to the funny, fun-loving Grummy.

I feel like what was missing for me here
was the dancing.

[Ne-Yo] Like, the superpower,
that was great,

but I feel like the dance
lacked a little bit this time.

I agree with Ne-Yo and Ashley,
but I also disagree in some things.

I agree that we should have seen
more dancing

but, even if sometimes you didn't dance,

you were acting
and you had so much charisma,

and I enjoyed that,

because I love story-telling
and I think you did an amazing job.

-Yeah.
-[audience cheering]

If you put me through, you know...

[laughs]

-Grummy's going to do his thing.
-Yeah.

-[Ashley] Grummy's going to do his thing!
-That's what we like to hear!

[Ashley] Well, remember,
there are no second chances tonight.

So we'll find out later if that dance
was enough to get you to the final.

That was a new experience.

[Grummy] That was the first time
the judges criticized my performance.

This is scary.

There's so much to lose,

but I did show
that I'm not afraid to do things

that are out of my comfort zone.

[Ne-Yo] If I could super-size anything,

I would super-size my bank account.

I would super-size my lungs

so I could breathe underwater
for a long time.

-Oh. That's good.
-Large lungs does not allow you

to breathe underwater.

-Okay.
-[chuckles]

I've been meaning to talk to you
about your confusion

-about human anatomy, Ash.
-[chuckles]

Let's have a discussion
about how lungs work.

[laughs]

Our next monster is ready to go

and her scorching hot dance moves
are about to get even hotter.

[Ashley] It's Flame!

All right, semi-final, superpowers, Flame.

This is pretty much a no-brainer, right?

Clearly, her power
should have something to do

-with fire.
-Fire.

Giving Flame the ability to control fire
will give her the opportunity

to express that personality
we've been looking for, right?

-Yeah, I like it.
-Show us who she is.

But we can't have the dance suffer
because of the superpower.

[Flame] The superpower that
the panel has given me

is throwing and tossing
and controlling the fire,

so I can continue to be creative
and really bring Flame to life.

[evil laughter]

Fire power.

[chuckles]

I need to make sure I express myself
like never before,

so I really hope my superpowers
help get my character out

for the audience and judges to see,

creating a performance,
not just a dance routine.

There is some tricks in this routine

combining technical elements
with acrobatics.

Got to really hit these turns.

Making sure I incorporate my superpower
on top of that, it's not easy.

Semi-finals, we can do it. We got this.

All right, Flame, the floor's yours.

-[Marsha] Let's go, Flame.

[Beti] Yeah! Light it up!

There's a lot of pressure
to get this right

and continue to express my personality.

[Flame] I can't let my superpower
affect my dance in a negative way.

[Ashley] Dancing for a place in the final
with the power to control fire,

one thing I can say about you, Flame,

is that every single time you come out,

I can expect a technically sound,
well-ex*cuted, clean performance.

You were doing those fouetté turns
and I'm like, "Wow, that...

-Wow, she's still going."
-[Lele] Yeah.

You were going for days.

You had the free cartwheels,
you had the flip at the end,

like, you always bring so much difficulty
to your performances.

I've got massive amounts of respect
for how far you've come

and how great you are
as a technical dancer.

-So well done.

-You put on fire, and a fire performance.
-Thank you.

You really put a lot in
with the superpower.

However, this is 250,000 dollars,

so I need, you know what,

just a little bit more of that personality
to just shine and, but...

-overall amazing.

I'm especially happy
that you kept the flames up there

-because this is cotton, very flammable.

No, I enjoyed this, I did.

[Ne-Yo] But from a critical standpoint,

the power
didn't so much make anything better,

it didn't make it worse,
but it didn't make it better.

It was kind of just... just there.

Now, you've always been
a really strong technical dancer.

It's the personality part
that's been the journey,

that's been a bit of a challenge,

and you have absolutely grown
from the first time we saw you.

At one point I told you,
I don't really know Flame.

-I feel like I know Flame now...
-Mm. Hundred percent.

-...which is a good thing.
-Yeah.

-We connected more this time than before.
-Definitely so.

The journey as a person not just a dancer,

so I'll take everything you guys said,

I feel like I've grown and I'm ready
to keep growing no matter what happens.

I put my heart and soul out there

Another monster is all set
to be supercharged,

and this one is ready to make a splash.

All right, Chester.

You know what I love about Chester,

-all his moves effortlessly flow together.
-He's graceful, like water.

Yes.

Okay, what if he had, like, a water power?

-[Lele] Oh, yeah!
-But is he sh**ting water, is it, what?

-Dancing on water.
-Boom.

[Ashley Banjo] That is dope.

[Lele] This will stretch him creatively

so I'm looking
for something completely unique.

But imagine if the water can, like, lift,

like those fountains
you see in Vegas, right?

And he's literally dancing on...

-On top of the jets.
-That's dope.

-That's dope, right?
-I like that.

With a power like this,

he has to maintain that control
even more so.

-Balance and everything.
-He's gonna need to have grace, poise,

-power, Vegas showmanship.
-Yeah.

[Ne-Yo] One false move and slip...

-Oh, and now you're under.

It's a difficult power.

But I think it's going to be
really magical.

It feels so good to be in the semi-finals.

There's been so much hard work
coming into this

and having the superpower shows off
a new level of complexity in my dance.

I think the panel gave me this superpower

because I've impressed them
in the previous weeks

and now they want to see me
elevate my game.

So this time around,
instead of contemporary,

I'm trying jazz.

It's definitely a risk
to change styles now

but if I get through this,
I'm in the finale.

This is where we introduce
those stepping stones.

Jumping on these water platforms,

you have to make sure
you have a mixture of strength, elegance

and my movements really have to be precise

because if I miss one,
there could be a splash down.

the power adds to my routine

It's nerve-wracking to know
that two people are being eliminated

to save ourselves.

I just need to bring
every possible thing out of me

and a mouth on your chest, right,

on top of having to figure out

how to make the superpower make sense,

I don't feel like I'm watching
contemporary, or hip-hop, or jazz,

like, I'm watching Chester,
like, I'm watching you.

You have the ability
to pick us up as the viewer

and take us, like, transport us.

You deliver every single time.

I was worried about this power,
but you absolutely nailed it.

I think this is what we were talking about

when we wanted to incorporate the dance
and the superpower together.

This was what they all need to be.
I hate to say it

but, like, they all need to be
as good as this or better.

And he really showed himself.

This was one
of my favorite performances he's done.

You've got to be flying high
or floating high, right?

Our next monster has overcome
every obstacle that's been put in his way.

But now, thanks to his superpower,
he can just walk right through them.

It's Beti!

This one's a little bit out there,
but through the competition,

we've seen, like,
different sort of sides to Beti.

He started with a more hip-hop style

and then he started to give us
contemporary, different forms.

Like, I feel like his form shifted.

Imagine if he could, like, literally
just phase in and out and do...

-Dancing as Beti...
-And then...

...and all of a sudden, shapeshifter Beti.

-You know where I'm going!
-Shapeshifter Beti.

[Lele] I think that's a great idea.

What if he could, like, phase,
like, through stuff.

[Ne-Yo] Like, he's passing through
solid matter.

-Almost like teleportation.
-Yeah.

[Lele] I think it's very cool

but if it's not done well
and with confidence,

-it could be really messy.
-That's his job, right?

He has to play with it, but let's see
what he does. Get creative, Beti.

[chuckles]

I'm a super monster.

There's no obstacles anymore.
What I'm doing is mind-blowing.

This power allows me to be super creative.

There's going to be a wall
down the center of the stage

so I can turn into smoke,

phase through walls
and re-form into my Beti self.

That's wild, man.

This superpower's crazy.

I have to figure out
every single way to use this.

I want to make sure I take full advantage.

This time round, the biggest challenge

is marrying the two styles,
break and contemporary.

It's very hard
trying to switch technique very quickly

and find the balance
between the two styles

as I use this superpower
to pass through solid walls.

This round is way harder
than the last round.

-I'm ready, yeah, I'm...

[Beti] A quarter of a million dollars
is right there.

I mean, it would mean the world to me.

I want to be in the final
more than anything

and I'm so close to it.

a huge opportunity,

but it's also a huge risk.

Can I pull this off

and make sure the power
doesn't overshadow my performance?

I enjoyed the performance
but I don't think the power elevated you.

I think it was just another element.

Listen, the last time we saw you,
you completely switched up.

You became a whole other yeti,

which is what gave us the idea
to give you this shapeshifting power,

and I was ridiculously impressed by that.

[Ne-Yo] I think that I lost you
a little bit in some of the acrobatics,

you know, as you were going
in and out of the power,

so it was good,
but I know there's better in there.

super-powered monster,

Light.

She does ballet and it looks beautiful.

[Lele] When she dances,
it's like she's floating on air.

So what if Marsha was able to fly?

Dope idea.

She'd have to be dramatic with it,
beautiful, controlled, powerful,

I feel like if anybody's
going to do flying justice...

Marsha could be that monster, right?

[Ne-Yo] It can't just be about flying,

the dance has to be just as dynamic.

It's about how she interprets
the movement in a creative way.

This is going to be a challenge for her.

My superpower is flying.

I'm going to soar all over the stage.

I can fly. Oh, my gosh.

This superpower lets me do things
and express things I've never done before.

Within the movements, all of a sudden,
I am dancing and then I'm flying.

But it's not as easy as it looks.

It's really difficult
to hold my body in the position.

Any takeoff, any landing,
anything where I'm upside down,

there's just a lot of things
that could go wrong with this.

Let's do that again.

I am really pushing myself
with this performance.

Okay, Marsha, walk this way.

I, one hundred percent feel like
the underdog in this competition.

Every other contestant
has had their moment

where their dance
was the favorite of the night

or they got a standing ovation,

and I feel like I'm the only one left
that hasn't had that moment.

So, I have gone into rehearsals this week

with a fight and a determination
that I haven't had in this entire process.

I want to be there.
I want to be in the final.

that I've just got mad love for.

And the way he used
his shape-shifting power

to move between hip-hop
and contemporary was cool.

It was good, but I've seen him better.

I know, but he's proven himself
so many times.

I've never been so nervous.

[Lele] Made me cry. Marsha.

[Ne-Yo] I applaud her level up,

and she was so graceful
when she took off and landed when flying.

-She's grown so much since the first time...

to do what he did with his superpower.

And he took a risk by doing jazz,

that we had high hopes for that power.

This one was good, he dropped down
from great to good this time.
