SUGAR RUSH: THE BAKING POINT

Alan and Ale,

Dany and Ana Lau,

and Lis and Luli
were eliminated from the competition.

But today, we'll give them
the chance to face off

to win their ticket back
and go straight to the semifinal.

Good luck.

That is, if they can impress the judges
and our guest, Anna Ruiz,

internationally renowned for her style
and innovation when it comes to cakes,

as well as for being the expert judge

and the only one
who can bake cakes on Nailed It!

The road will be sweet but not easy.

-We can't keep going, "Let's do this."
-Oh no.

I gotta redo it.

In the end,
only one team can return to the race

to win one million pesos

and the Sugar Rush:
The Baking Point trophy.

Gris Verduzco is explaining to our bakers
what the first round is all about.

She's warning them
that the rules have changed today

because one team
will be eliminated before the cake round.

And that sound means the sweet path
to redemption has just begun.

Come with me.

Lis, Luli, we didn't even have time
to miss you.

My heart's beating out of my chest.

Dany, Ana Lau, how nice
to see your beautiful smiles.

We're gonna show
how professional we are, right?

-Alan, Ale.
-Capi.

Good to see you!

I need to come back and show

that we've got more passion
and love for our craft than anyone else.

My judges, Gris, Luis, Anna Ruiz.

-Gris, Luis, Anna Ruiz!
-Hi.

What's up? Anna, how are you?

-Good, you?
-Excited to have you here.

You finally get to judge good cakes.

-You're right.
-That's great. You're an expert.

What do you expect from these bakers?

Something I like to pick up on are colors.

Then the texture and the flavor.

I'll be paying attention
to every little detail.

Hear that? She'll be paying attention
to every little detail.

I'm really excited
that Anna Ruiz is the guest judge today.

Let's go!

She's a fondant expert
and makes amazing things.

It does make me anxious
that she'll be judging our cakes.

Gris, what's the first challenge about?

-We're giving them a second chance.
-Okay.

They'll have to turn the cake
that got them eliminated into a cupcake.

-Thank you.
-Oh boy!

I think it's a very poetic way
to apologize.

Unfortunately, those cakes won't be here
to witness it.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 1 - CUPCAKE

The flavors were good.

We'll stick with them
and just change the textures, Ale.

Okay.

Luis, what was their Achilles' heel?

Alan and Ale had good ideas.

I see a controversial chicken foot.

I would've liked
to see something more elaborate.

Something more theatrical.

Their cake turned out
to be a disappointment.

The inspiration for our cake was esquites.

It's a corn and passion fruit cake.

We'll leave out
the over-the-top decorations,

like the chicken foot.

We'll swap that chicken foot
for a feather.

To avoid
another chicken foot controversy--

-We'll pluck that chicken.
-We'll pluck it.

We'll make some chocolate
and orange cupcakes

because that's the cake flavor
that took us out of the competition.

Lis and Luli had
an emotionally taxing final episode.

Don't cry, honey. I'm sorry.

That took its toll.

And they made a mistake.

-We also used orange peel.
-Yeah.

Sometimes there's still
some pith on the peel.

It makes the taste
of orange overpowering.

So it jumped out at me.

I'm hoping it isn't bitter again.

-It's nerve-racking.
-Please.

I zested the orange
more carefully this time.

I'll add a pinch of salt.

We know exactly what went wrong,
so it has to work out this time around.

We'll redeem ourselves with this cupcake.

It just needs to be more moist.
The flavor was great.

Dany and Ana Lau spent a lot of time
focusing on detailed decorations.

But they failed to wow us.

We wanted to highlight
how perfect the wrestling ring is.

Yeah, I saw you
pouring all your energy into it.

-I was like, "Enough!"
-It was hard.

The ring challenge was total chaos.

We had high hopes for the wrestler.

We'll see if they can improve
their time management,

focusing on flavor and decoration.

-We won't add wrestlers, but…
-It'll have a tropical touch.

We'll add a fondant flower.

Passion fruit.

Adding pineapple makes it
more moist and delicious.

In this episode, they don't have
to save time for the finale.

They can use the full six hours
to make their creations spectacular.

How can they make a comeback?

They should make something efficient,
simple, and impactful.

Just being good enough
won't cut it in this competition.

You need to go above and beyond.

Don't stress out, Lu. Just focus.

-Everyone's in a rush.
-Ready.

Guys, is this yours?

-Yeah.
-I'm gonna use it.

-Yeah, no problem.
-It's fine.

Good luck.

I wish there was a way we could all stay,
but someone has to be the winner.

After the drama in the last episode…

I feel calmer now.

We meditated before coming here.

Can you get me a pinch of salt
when you're done?

By the way, our ovens are set to 150.

-Mom?
-Yeah.

No rush. We can use the fridge.

-Let's use it, then.
-Yeah.

Bakers, I've got something to say.

Before the cake round,
one team will be going home.

This competition is really tough.

-The flower is risky.
-Yeah, but we'll be okay.

-Ana will like it.
-We'll make it.

Because Anna Ruiz is into decorations.

It'll take time
to make the flowers, but…

-We want to impress them.
-Right.

I'll make mascarpone cream.

ROUND 1

The cupcakes are rising nicely.

They're looking great.

Oh no!

-Lis.
-Open it.

No.

-Why?
-I don't know, honey.

Everything's falling apart.

It's like déjà vu.

Lis and Luli
are having a bit of a problem.

Today is about problem-solving.

What do you need?

And how much of it?

You know what? If you take the pan out
before they're done baking, they deflate.

-Yeah.
-The cupcakes, man.

Check them out.

-Do you have gloves?
-They're done.

Calm down. Let's not panic.
What do you need?

Something's up with the mixture.
Or the oven temperature.

-I'm sifting it directly.
-Cocoa, 30.

-Thirty.
-Okay.

-No way.
-It's okay, Lu. Let it go.

Otherwise, history will repeat itself.

-sh**t!
-Careful.

Bakers, the first hour
of this round has come to an end.

We want to see finished cupcakes.

Even though you don't have
to save time for the finale,

you do need to have
enough time for the cake round.

If you get there, of course.

-Okay, Capi.
-Good.

I don't know how much time
we'll have left for the cake.

How we're spending our time
is a key part of our strategy.

With around… three and a half hours,
we'd be fine,

but we still have a lot to do.

-The oven's ready, right?
-Yeah.

I'm paying close attention
to the temperature

so it doesn't happen again.

We're leaving it up to fate.

ROUND 1

The chocolatier's making white chocolate.

I'm in my element. I've got this.

We can plate in five minutes, Ale.

Leave room for the corn.

I already added
passion fruit to the ganache.

It'll take longer,
but we'll use a range of techniques.

-You liked how it turned out?
-It was delicious.

Oh no.

-What?
-No.

-What's wrong?
-It's not working.

What a surprise!

-Again.
-Deflated again.

-What are you adding?
-I don't know. Nothing extra.

It's the usual recipe.

Don't worry. Just change the flavor.

There's a bunch of tension
that's been brewing.

Something's off with the recipe.
It's weird that this happened twice.

-For sure.
-Right?

Is that baking powder?

Time's running out,
so we need to come up with a plan ASAP.

I'll go check it out.

-Let us know what's going on.
-Okay.

How about orange cupcakes?

That's fine.

I'll make a chocolate ganache. All right?

We're trying to handle the situation
the best we can.

Done.

Hi.

It's not a good time, Capi.

I found this.

The oven temperature was dropping,
and I didn't realize it.

-Yeah.
-So there's a third tray in there.

-Third time's the charm, Capi.
-I like that attitude.

Why am I taking a look
if I don't have a clue?

-I just came over. They look good.
-They look fine.

-Yeah, they're okay.
-Relax. It'll work out this time.

I'll try touching them with this glove.

So maybe this won't…

-You mean… the feathers?
-So I won't melt them.

Exactly.

-Did you add some syrup?
-Yeah.

Nice!

-I'm really worried.
-You are?

They put a third tray in,
but they seem more confident this time.

Otherwise, they'd be keeping an eye on it.

The pressure's on.

Everything looks perfect.

We've got a fluffy cake
with a fruit filling.

That's it.

ROUND 1

-Come on. Let's move on.
-Okay.

Alan and Ale have finished their cupcakes.

It means they'll start
the creations challenge.

What is it about?

They have to make a creation

that represents the moment
they decided to become bakers.

-The lightbulb moment.
-Exactly.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS

The first thing you learn as a chocolatier
is how to make a cup with a balloon.

I'll make my own version, 15 years later.

I think I'll surprise
Luis Robledo with this creation.

-Let's plate.
-Right.

The cupcakes are done.

ROUND 1

-We did it.
-We made it. Let's move on.

Dany and Ana Lau finished too.

It's great to hear their enthusiasm again.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS

The first thing I made was profiteroles.

-Me too.
-You too?

Yeah.

It's a technique you learn
your first semester as a baker.

Something like coffee.

-Like a carajillo.
-What?

-Right?
-Yeah, I love it.

-I love carajillo.
-It works.

Do we have time for macarons?
Should I risk it?

We have to be realistic.

Yeah, go for it.

These ones are rising. Looking good.

ROUND 1

It smells great.

I think they finally did it.

-I'm worried about the color.
-They're a little burnt, right?

Can you hand me a spoon?

This one?

What? Yeah.

Let's hope the decorations
on top make it moist.

So you can't tell where it's burnt.

-They can cover it up.
-Yeah.

Here.

ROUND 1

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS

We started baking
because of your heart condition.

Okay.

When my mom had her heart attack,
those were difficult times

because we were both unemployed.

We can make hearts and put them in here.

Lis came up with the brilliant idea
of baking cakes,

and that's how we started this business,
which has brought us so much happiness.

Ready!

I think we're doing too much at once.

This all has to be perfect.

It's an arm workout.

Bakers, it's been two hours.

Remember that one team
will lose their shot

at winning a million pesos
at the end of the round.

We want to win those pesos.

Give it your all, bakers.

-Okay, Capi.
-That's right!

Faster.

We've got plenty of techniques up
our sleeves to make this dessert complex.

It's baking, not a workout.

The chef has an awful habit

of cooking pastry cream in the microwave.

Hey, it's not a bad habit.

-It's faster.
-It is a bad habit.

I wasn't taught that way in school,
so it's a bad habit.

-Your school hasn't won six competitions.
-Okay.

You want the base here?

Don't use all of it, Luli.

-What's your idea? Tell me.
-Yeah.

ROUND 1

-Let's not waste time.
-Take the almonds.

I'm getting mad.

I need to be careful and stay in control.

Calm down. It's okay.

I asked if you wanted it on the bottom.
You said yes.

Sorry. I didn't hear you.

Neither of us wants to lash out.

I'm pretty worked up too.

I know I have to calm down
so that this goes as smoothly as possible.

-Are they finished?
-No.

We're okay. The coffee ganache?

Can you get started on it?

We're doing
a lot of pretty complex things.

-I think the mousse…
-Just use a bit, okay?

Yeah.

It's like chocolate foam.

Right.

-Three minutes and we plate.
-Got it.

We just have
to make sure the details are perfect

and make a good impression.

Done.

Go for it.

ROUND 1

TIME REMAINING

-Alan and Ale buzzed in.
-What?

Alan and Ale already buzzed in.

-Hurry up, Dany. Get moving.
-I'm trying.

Just because they finished first
doesn't mean they'll win.

Right.

Gris, Luis, Ruiz.

-Come on.
-Let's go.

Alan and Ale, you went all out.

Start by telling us about your cupcake.

We wanted to reinterpret our corn cake…

while still keeping the fruit touches.

Instead of a heated compote,
we made a cold confiture.

We added a crunchy almond crumble
to give it something extra.

I loved this one.

It's really pretty.

So tasty. The cake was nice and fluffy.
You had great ideas.

I love that it tasted like both a cupcake
and an esquite.

It could've used more color.

I would've liked a touch of gold
on the feather.

I like gold. I loved the feather.

What's this? Tell us about your creations.

The idea is for it to drip.

The textures are a chocolate streusel,
a flourless chocolate cake,

chocolate pastry cream,

ganache, and a light chocolate mousse.

It was a mighty undertaking.

Everything you just told us about
takes a lot of work.

The chocolate flavor was so rich

that I would've toned it down a bit
or incorporated it differently.

I ate the spoon, obviously.

The chocolate was a bit heavy,
but I loved it.

It's a great combination. Congratulations.

Thank you both.

Thanks.

It's still hot.

Add it. And the decoration.

-Hurry!
-Wait.

We're so…

-C'mon.
-One, two, three!

ROUND 1

We did it!

We're almost done.

We went too far
with our process, but it's fine.

TIME REMAINING

Hurry, Lis. Ready?

ROUND 1

Yeah. Buzz in.

We made it.

Our cupcakes and creations look so pretty.

TIME REMAINING

Dany and Ana Lau,

first, please tell us
about this beautiful cupcake.

We wanted to reinterpret our banana cake,
which needed to be moist.

This one's more tropical.

We added pineapple,
banana, and lemon zest.

And the fondant flower
is in honor of Anna Ruiz.

I tried it. Delicious.

That tangy combination
with the cake is spectacular.

The cream stuck to my… Does it have lard?

-There's no lard in it.
-No.

However, mascarpone cheese is high in fat.

But it's well put together.

Visually, it's a treat.
The combination is spot on.

I thought the cupcake was delicious.

I liked how you worked that contrast.

The cream was sweet, but it balanced out
with the tangy sourness.

Now, tell us
about this beautiful thing here.

We made choux pastry for this
and filled it with diplomat cream.

It's infused with a touch of coffee,

and filled it with
a semi-bitter chocolate ganache

with coffee liquor and Licor 43.

It has texture, crunchiness,
and good flavor and balance.

You used the same filling for the macaron.
I would've used another.

But, in terms of technique,
the whole thing is well-ex*cuted.

Go, North!

-Lis, Luli.
-Hi.

What's in this cupcake?

The filling is orange cream
with a chocolate ganache.

It has whipped cream
and peanuts with a touch of caramel.

Our inspiration was
our cake from the last episode.

Which is why we decided
to add a pozole on top,

because one of the elements
of the ofrenda was a pozole.

I don't wanna eat it.

There wasn't an issue
with the orange taste.

I was careful with the zest,
and we added a pinch of salt.

-Just in case.
-Right.

I wish the cream had a bit more flavor.

It just tastes
like freshly whipped cream.

The decoration on top
is very pretty. I loved it.

Now, explain your creations to us, please.

For this challenge, we used cream cheese
with a raspberry compote.

The heart is modeling chocolate.

I always say
that Luli's heart is what led us here

because of her heart attack,
which set off a series of events

that led us to baking.

It's great that a wonderful cake
came from all that.

Blessed cakes.

I loved the combination
of raspberry and chocolate.

The lemon gives it a great tartness.

I think tartness and sweetness pair well.

The crumble needed a bit more flavor.

Something crunchier, baked longer,
drier, would've given it more texture.

But I think it's a winning combination.

-I'm glad I'm not a judge right now.
-Honestly.

-Thanks.
-Thank you.

Congratulations.

We could be the winners
because we put our hearts into it.

Bakers, you all deserve to be here.

However, only two teams
will face off in the battle of the cakes.

The judges' favorite team is…

Alan and Ale.

Congratulations.

Today is a good day.

Enjoy this sweet victory,
but start thinking about your cake.

It could take you directly
to the semifinal

and back to compete for a million pesos.

Thanks, Capi.

Let's strive for a positive vibe.

Let's give that cake our all.

Unfortunately, for another team,
this is goodbye.

-It's like an alternate reality, Mom.
-Okay.

The team that won't participate
in the cake battle is…

-Our hearts are racing.
-No.

Lis and Luli.

We're in.

We are.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

I feel like the biggest winner

for having my mom with me,
standing by me at all times.

I'm not here for the million pesos.
I came to support Lis.

I love you both. You're amazing.

This experience also made us closer.

Thank you, chef.

-Thanks for your advice.
-Congratulations.

Keep doing your best.

-I love you, honey.
-I love you too.

One, two…

Besides, something important happened.

You hug me more often.

I do hug her more often.

-Thank you.
-Thanks, Lis and Luli.

-Thanks.
-We love you.

We love you too.

Bye.

They saved us a trip to a therapist.

Go, Veracruz!

Anna, what are the judges looking for?

The judges want bakers with creativity.

Each of you has different strengths.

You'll have to make
the cake you've always dreamed of.

Making the cake of your dreams
is a tall order.

There is no theme.

Now we're in our element.

But you'll have to be smart
if you want to make a comeback.

We have to talk about your time,
which is an important factor.

Alan and Ale,

you'll have three hours,
27 minutes and one second,

so you'll start first.

Dany, Ana Lau,

you have three hours,
five minutes and 12 seconds,

so you'll have to wait.

Got it.

Get to your mixers. Your time starts now!

ROUND 2
CAKES

There's an old pottery technique
called kintsugi.

-Okay.
-The art of healing.

It comes from the Japanese art

of repairing broken vases
with powdered gold.

I want to make a fountain with a bonsai.

Because that's us. We're flourishing.

-Oh.
-We'll use our strengths.

Ale is the foundation, with the fondant.

The second tier is me, as the chocolate.

I still feel broken.

I want to leave that bad experience
behind me.

In this case, both Ale and I
are broken after being eliminated.

And we want to show
that we've emerged even stronger.

-Our comeback.
-Yeah.

-Come on.
-Let's get to work.

I don't know what they'll make.

I say we start by baking.
Can you make something with poppy seed?

-They can't be that thick, the…
-The cake.

-Right.
-The cheesecake will be thin.

-What to do while we wait?
-I have no patience.

We can't even grab anything
at our station.

We know we want to see
two spectacular, very special cakes.

What do you expect, Gris?

If there's no theme
and they get to choose what to do,

they'll get to be really creative.

But it has to look impressive.

And the most important part,

that cake has to look "eshpeshial,"
or it won't work.

So you'll start
with the inside of the cake,

and I'll handle the outside, all right?

-Start making the foundation.
-Yeah?

-You're my foundation.
-Okay.

I feel obligated, but all right.

We want to use sophisticated flavors.

A matcha cake,

A confiture.

The chef really likes passion fruit.

That tartness will bring
a lot of balance to the cake.

Thoughts?

I think that baking four cakes is enough.

Okay.

We came to win.
We came to show off our techniques.

Show off our flavors.

Everything will go right,
and we'll enjoy making this cake.

-Because it's a great idea.
-It's cool.

They have 25 minutes on us.

That's a lot.

-We won't lose.
-No way.

Can you "temperate" this? What can I do?

I'll put this over here,
and I'll temper quickly.

When Alan tempers chocolate,

I think it's
when he's most focused on his job.

An old chef…

Okay.

…told me, "Chocolatiers live on marble,
and when we die, we're under it."

And I thought it was beautiful.

I'd never heard "temperate."

Tempering means putting it
on a marble slab, like Alan did,

and cooling it on the slab.

If we want to make a big comeback,
we have to bet everything

on the technical,
visual, and conceptual side.

I'll start baking.

Got it.

Now!

Come on.

Where are you?

It's almost time.

This is for all your students
who have great teachers.

It's all good.

We think we have
everything we need to win.

Focus.

-You too.
-Let's win this.

Dany, Ana Lau, get to your mixers.

Your time starts now!

ROUND 2

We'll risk it.

All right, let's do it.
What are we making?

Our head start is over,
but we'll keep going.

How about doing something
from the times of Marie Antoinette?

All the desserts, the colors,
the dresses, the hairstyles.

The first layer will be…

We'll use three kinds of lemons,

key lime, lemon, yuzu,

which is a Japanese lemon
that I know the judges will love.

A delicious Italian meringue.

I'll make a raspberry coulis.

-I want to add some lime.
-Which kind?

Give me this one so I can juice it.

We're gonna pull out all the stops.

Anna, how about we take a gastronomic tour
to check out the bakers?

-Sure, let's go.
-Let's see what they're up to.

-Bring back gossip.
-Sure.

The girls haven't started their cake.

-Huh?
-They're not baking.

Because we had a head start,
Ale's already finished baking the cake.

Baking and cooling times are critical
to the success of this challenge.

We'll add a bit of rose water.

Should I add it
to the cheesecake or the coulis?

-To the coulis.
-The coulis?

We're still ambitious.

We keep wanting to do stuff,
but time's running out.

It'll give it an "eshpeshial" touch,
like Mis Pastelitos would say.

-Alan and Ale.
-Hi.

What are you doing?

I'm making a structure to get height.

We'll make an elevated cake,
with a lot of height.

-Whoa.
-We believe it'll be worth it.

-No risk, no reward, right?
-That's right.

It'll be amazing to build a sturdy,
tall structure that supports a tree.

We hope you make
a super tall, stable cake.

Thank you.

Come on. You gotta work hard.

I've got my hands full,
trying to finish everything.

Hi.

Hi. How are you? Good?

And then Gris
and Anna Ruiz come over, and I'm like…

The other team is making something big.

What's your plan?

-Ours will also be big.
-Okay.

We'll make a character
inspired by Marie Antoinette,

so it's all gonna be in pastel tones.

Yep.

It's a 3D, carved cake.

It'll be more interactive
than a tiered cake.

We won't take up any more of your time.

-Good luck.
-Give it your all. Go for it.

-Come on!
-Thanks.

ROUND 2

-Calm down.
-Okay.

-So?
-They're going all out.

-That's the spirit.
-It's impressive.

They're making really tall,
really big things.

More than before.

I'm afraid they don't have
enough time available.

I'll make two cheesecakes.

-Three, for the--
-As long as it's enough.

-If it's enough…
-No, listen.

Two cheesecakes,
for the cake and the front.

How many do you need?

How many what?

I don't know.

To be honest, I'm way too focused.

My head's somewhere else.

-We'll bake in this. Can you fill these?
-No.

I'll need one of the smaller cake pans.

I'll give you this.

I didn't get what you said.
Something about…

-My brain's headed somewhere else.
-I'm so sorry!

-No.
-Ana, focus.

They're doing so many things.

-The pressure's on.
-They're pushing themselves.

We can't just keep going, "Let's do this."

I've got an idea in mind,
and I can't change it.

I'll give you a mold, you fill it,
and I'll take care of the rest.

I'll do the mixing.

Bakers, remember
that the winner of this epic duel

will go to the semifinals
of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

Go for it!

Two hours, 22 minutes.

-Your cakes are done.
-Got it.

The jam is almost done.
The meringue is close.

I gotta hurry with the bonsai.

I'm using one of my secret weapons,
modeling chocolate.

On the top will be a bonsai made
from chocolate, which is my specialty.

It'll be very stable.

Very strong.

There's passion there.

-Easy now.
-There's art here.

Don't rush it.

There's definitely passion.

Going to the oven!

ROUND 2

-What's up?
-I'm tired.

Use the laminator.

No, this is fine.

I want to pick up the pace
so we don't fall behind

and can finish this glorious cake.

The good thing
is that wherever there are cracks,

that's where we'll apply our chocolate

to simulate ceramic repairs.

I got a perfect marble finish.

Just what we were looking for.

Can you help me with this?

It didn't work.
She put it before… That's terrible.

I gotta redo it.

One hour and thirty minutes on the clock.

Yeah. Help me with the laminator
so we can get it done quickly.

Sure.

We're overdoing it
with all these preparations.

Like, we…

We've made
four types of batter for the cake.

We also made cheesecake.

These teams are really ambitious.
They use more complex techniques.

It'll be a home run if they pull it off,

but it'll be a disaster if they don't,
because they won't finish.

-What are we doing?
-A mango and yuzu cream.

We're risking our ticket to the semifinal.

So we don't care
what we have to do to get it.

-Think we can make it?
-Yeah, easily.

Bakers, your time is up.

Oh no. It's over.

No way.

That's what I'll say in an hour. Okay?

I'm not an expert,
but you're moving a bit slowly.

Why is he like this?

Let's see how much color I can salvage.

Okay.

Without losing the texture,

because if the colors mix too much,
it'll just turn gray.

Here comes the fondant sheeter.

You got it, Ale?

Yep.

Why don't you make the head amaranth?

Oh yeah.

It's really stressful

because we have to make
the head from amaranth,

shape it, and then model it.

I don't like this part,
but it helps to set it.

-But the marshmallow is very hot.
-Very hot.

I think this is enough. I'm getting burnt.

All right.

I'm starting to see the bonsai.

-It looks cool.
-Come on.

Right now, I'm in the middle
of a Japanese garden

with a beautiful bonsai.

Nothing can go wrong.

ROUND 2

I need your help.

Stick this here, add hair here,
and imagine this will rise like this.

It'll have bangs here, okay?

-And the back will have cream.
-Cream.

-We've got a long way to go.
-We're so far behind.

A gravity cake is very complex.

I'm worried about them.

I don't know about that hair.

I made a gap because the head can't move
a single inch, okay?

The neck is extremely fragile.

I'll hold it.

Put it on and stretch it.

Now you're going to see
a bad habit of mine.

-Hold it. Don't turn it. Please.
-Okay.

I'll cut it right in a moment.

I turn the edges inward.

No one will see it
because another tier will go on top.

It looks realistic.

Don't celebrate yet. Anything can happen.

-Calm down. Relax.
-I can't.

This is tipping.

It's collapsing.

No, it's gonna collapse.

Her head is falling off. No.

Take it off.

-I can hold it.
-No, this won't work.

-Maybe with a screw?
-No, it's completely collapsing.

-It set us back.
-All of it.

We should've made the other one.

We have to do something. What can we do?

I'll have to make it again.

Let's see if I can salvage this.

We'll have to do the hair all over again.

Marie Antoinette's known for her hair.

I'm a little worried it'll fall.

I didn't balance the lower tiers properly.

Well…

Anything can happen.

It might tip because of its height.

That's why I'm saying
they're risking everything.

-Are you done?
-I am.

I still have to assemble
the bonsai on top.

I melted the marshmallow in this one.

Here we go. Three, two, one.

-Careful with the head.
-Hold it.

-The neck is getting damaged.
-Help me hold it.

We're not gonna stress out.

-There. Is it in place?
-Yes.

Yeah? Okay, good.

Why didn't we just do that?

I burned my hands.

Bakers, there's less
than half an hour left,

and the cakes aren't finished.

Give it your all
during these final minutes

because one team is going home.

We'll use every last second
to complete our design.

ROUND 2

The scars are missing,
and they're the most important part.

They mean a lot to us

because they represent
our elimination on the first day.

It looks great. I love it.

-The clock's ticking.
-That's right.

-So stressful.
-So many details to go.

-A lot of details left.
-In the kitchen, time is precious.

Let's place this here.

-Yeah. You're not adding anything else?
-No.

You or me?

-Can you hold it?
-I can.

I like her confidence.

She knows it's heavy,
but she's in control.

Right now, I'll just let her be.

I think we should put it like this.

So you don't have to stretch.

Oh, you guys.

Help me set it down.

Anything that happens,
even a fly buzzing by,

could affect our decorations
and make our cake collapse.

Dear God.

There it is.

We've got 15 minutes,
and we have to work miracles.

I can see Alan and Ale…

Oh dear.

They're about to finish.

-I'll put the stick in to hold the bonsai.
-Yeah.

It's important that we place it correctly.

Don't let go of it
until you're sure it's right.

Done. Hit it.

ROUND 2

Alan and Ale are the first to finish.

TIME REMAINING

They already finished.

-Did they buzz in?
-Yeah.

Everything's gonna be fine. Relax.

ROUND 2

I'll add several elements
that will look great in her hair.

I can't stop adding things

because the Marie Antoinette theme
allows you to do that.

And Capi…

-Capi's always so focused.
-Yeah.

It's like…

Dany and Ana Lau,

you've got five minutes
to finish the cake of your dreams.

Give it the final touches
because Alan and Ale are already finished.

-What do you need?
-The sprinkles. Here they are.

Ana, stop adding things.

We'll plate soon.

Otherwise, they'll disqualify us
because of the time.

I'm coming over.

I'm looking at what
Dany and Ana Lau are working on.

It's very clean. So beautiful.

I really admire them for that.

-Ready!
-Buzz in!

-Dany and Ana Lau buzzed in.
-Finally!

We were almost disqualified
because of that.

TIME REMAINING

Alan, Ale, congratulations.

You finished.

Tell us about the concept you used.

Gladly, Capi.

-We'll add a little…
-Showmanship?

We're pouring a bit of green tea.

The mist represents
the uncertainty and doubts

we had after being eliminated.

The tea brings a calming sensation
amidst the storm.

Each tier represents something about us.

Ale really enjoys fondant.

The middle tier… I enjoy chocolate.

We wanted to create marble-like textures.

And on top, we added a bonsai tree.

To me, the bonsai shows

that size and grandeur
aren't necessary for beauty.

I really think we're here as new bakers.

I loved the combination.
"Look, this is my style. This is mine."

When you use both of your strengths,
you get a work of art like this.

In terms of technique,
it's a complex cake.

There are some mistakes that I can see,
like how you glued the base,

the hand painting you did,
the assembly, and things like that.

I pick up on them.

I'm also a chocolatier.
I can't pull the wool over his eyes.

The bonsai is great.

I also wondered how you'd do it.
How you'd give it that texture and volume.

And well done. I loved it.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

Congratulations.

Unfortunately, I'll have to ask you
to cut four slices of cake.

-I'll see you at the judges' table.
-Okay.

-Thanks.
-Yeah, thanks.

Dany and Ana Lau are finally done!

Tell us about your concept and techniques.

We used a 3D carving technique
for the body.

Then we used RKT for the head,

then we sculpted
and applied modeling chocolate

because her features
are made of modeling chocolate.

There were several techniques involved.

It's beautiful.
I knew from the start that I'd love it.

I love vintage stuff and pastel colors.

Once again, you've shown
how good you are at doing lots of stuff.

The joints of the piece,

I can still see some in the front.

They're noticeable.
Here's one. Here's another.

We didn't have enough time
to add all the details we wanted.

I thought, "What are they gonna do
for the head? What about the hair?"

I was worried.

I'm amazed at how you figured it out.

Congratulations.

You did a great job in so little time.

-Thank you.
-Thank you.

We're tired but happy.

Bakers, we saw your creations.

Now it's time to taste them.

Alan and Ale, please bring us your cake.

We've got color. We've got texture.

I'm really happy with the result.

Tell us what flavors we have here.

We used a matcha-flavored cake,
which is pretty controversial.

You either love it or hate it.

Matcha doesn't match
a lot of peoples' tastes.

It also has a passion fruit jam,

and a crunchy layer of pistachio
with a chocolate streusel.

You should try it all together
because matcha

might make your mouth pucker up.

I'm starting to wonder
if matcha was the right flavor.

But there's no going back at this point.

It's pretty balanced.

However, the final layer is really cold.

It's difficult to taste it
in its full glory.

Loved the passion fruit.

If you'd used a little more,
it might've been too much.

-Bitter.
-And I loved this combination.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

We've got this.

Dany and Ana Lau, bring your cake, please.

-I'm feeling stressed.
-The stress is back.

We wanted four layers
of different flavors.

One layer is lemon and blueberry.

One is lemon and mango.

A freeze-dried raspberry cake,

and a lemon with poppy seed cake.

We finished it with Italian meringue
so it won't taste greasy when you try it.

I really like the variations in flavor.

I think it's a great idea.

And I liked discovering four flavors
in so little time.

-I loved it.
-Thank you.

Be careful with your decorations.
Even if they're edible, this can happen.

I almost chipped a tooth.

Sorry, Luis. We'll pay for the dentist.
With our million.

Alan, Ale, please step forward.

I don't want to be sent home again today.

And now, it's time to make a decision.

My heart is pounding.

Judges, I'll ask you
to tell us which team

should continue in
Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

Both teams were great, no doubt.

In flavors, techniques.

Both of your stories are amazing.

My vote goes to…

Alan and Ale.

From the start,
I knew it was gonna be really close.

Luis?

We tasted some very balanced flavors.

Contrasts between sweet and sour.

They weren't perfect, because
you both had technical difficulties.

So, my vote goes to…

Alan and Ale.

-Thanks, Chef.
-Thanks.

I told you we'd make it.

It's already been decided,
but it's important to hear from Gris.

Actually, my vote
was for Alan and Ale too.

Alan and Ale, congratulations.
You're in the semifinal

of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

Let's enjoy this
and get to the finale. All right?

Understood.

You know I love you both.

It hurts to see you go,
but you learn more from your mistakes.

That's what makes us grow in life.

And all the things you'll experience
will be even more amazing.

Please, Gris, stop crying.
You're making me cry!

Your students are very lucky to have you.

Definitely.

You can't always win competitions,
but we did show how talented we are.

Unfortunately, the time has come

for you to walk out that door
with your heads held high.

-Smiling, like always.
-Thanks.

-I love you!
-I love you too.

We'll do our best.

Bye.

Alan and Ale showed us
that a failure is not the end of the road.

And now they're back stronger
than ever to compete in the semifinal

of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

The others better watch out
because they're gunning for the prize.
