01x06 - Episode 6

Post by bunniefuu »

This is the finale
of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

HOST

SUGAR RUSH: THE BAKING POINT

Alan and Ale.

Ruth and Rubí.

Israel and Iván.

They'll face off
in the sweetest race one last time.

And it won't be easy.

-Why didn't you tell me?
-I did tell you.

-You never hear me.
-Everything okay?

Today you'll be able to use
the time you saved up in past episodes.

The rounds are the same as always.

The first, cupcakes and creations.

The second, cakes.

But only two teams
will move on to the second round.

Dear God, what are we up against?

I don't think we're on the right path.

We'll see how this goes.

And they'll face off
in the final battle for a million pesos

and the Sugar Rush:
The Baking Point trophy.

I'm Capi Pérez, and these are our judges.

She couldn't cook,

couldn't even bake a cake.

But today,
she's a very "eshpeshial" baker.

Gris Verduzco from Mis Pastelitos.

The prestigious chef and chocolatier,

owner of the biggest vest collection
in all of Mexico, Luis Robledo.

And our guest judge,

the influencer and YouTuber who was lost

and found herself
on the planet of social media,

Wendy Guevara.

Today, our bakers will pay homage
to the magic and mysticism of Mexico.

The theme? Magical Mexico.

The last leg of the sweetest race
is about to begin. Come with me.

My friends.

It's time!

To be in the finale today
is incredibly satisfying.

Every stumble we had…

We said we would, and we did.

We said we'd get to the finale,
and look, here we are.

…every tear we shed
brought us to this moment.

-We made it!
-I can't believe it! This is amazing.

I'm excited and nostalgic, judges.
I'll miss you so much.

-Wendy, how are you? Welcome.
-I'm great. Really glad to be here.

-The energy here is amazing.
-Great!

Bakers, when you came to this kitchen,

you had 24 hours for the whole season.

But it's time to go over how much time
you have for this grand finale.

In this finale,
we're competing against the clock.

Ruth and Rubí with four hours,
54 minutes and one second.

Which is why you'll start baking first.

-We have to watch out for them.
-We should be afraid.

Israel and Iván,

four hours, 48 minutes and eight seconds.

We can't let our guard down
because they're very fast.

It's a virtue.

Alan and Ale,

three hours, 48 minutes and eight seconds.

We're coming in
with a one-hour disadvantage.

We'll see how this goes.

Gris, tell us
what they'll have to do this round.

For this challenge, what you must do

is create a cupcake
inspired by a mythical creature

or any animal native to Mexico

that people consider a magical being.

What a nice theme
to put a bow on all this.

Put your heart into it,
not just because it's the finale,

but because after the first round,

one team will be going home.

We're gonna sweat.
If we have to cry, we'll cry.

But we'll make it happen.

Ruth and Rubí, to your mixers.

Your time starts now!

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 1: CUPCAKE

-All right.
-Okay.

Right. We'll make an atotolin cupcake.

It's a golden magical bird
in Aztec culture.

The atotolin is a fantastic idea
because it hides a jewel inside of it.

We'll show them the jewels we have inside.

-Come on.
-Come on, let's go!

Ruth and Rubí's only weakness

is that they can get distracted.

-I'll make a honey buttercream.
-Right.

What's the time difference?

About an hour and a half?

-Yeah.
-It's fine.

This challenge
will be a race against the clock.

Should I add a bit of vanilla?

-Just a bit.
-It's really Mexican.

Pre-Hispanic too.

They're great.

But they've struggled a bit
when racing against time.

It's not setting, Ruth.

Yes, Rubí.

I know that flan wasn't the best decision.

But they always recover.
That's what I've seen.

I'll be very demanding.

Sorry. I'm the tough judge.

Israel and Iván, to your mixers.
Your time starts now!

Banana and passion fruit, I think.

Our idea was to make a cupcake
based on white butterflies.

When someone dies,
a white butterfly appears later,

and people believe that's their loved one.

And it's also a sign of good luck
and of things getting better.

Let's hope this butterfly…

-Is a good omen for us.
-A good omen, yeah.

They'll make the cake in a blender.

They want to save time mixing.

It could be good or bad,
depends on the recipe.

We just want to tackle this first part
in the fastest way possible

to save as much time as we can
for the second challenge.

Israel and Iván.

They've got a great dynamic.

They get along great.

-He's my friend.
-We're friends.

-Now you look like a potter.
-I am.

You're an artist.

And you haven't heard him sing.
His singing is, man…

The fact that they work together,
teach together, benefited them a lot,

and you can feel that
in their flavors too.

I'm so excited to meet Wendy.

Yeah?

-Making it this far is a dream come true.
-Yeah.

And they really challenged us.

-We learned a lot from one another.
-Yeah.

We got to know each other.

Rubí is wonderful. Just great.

It feels like she's family.

My family might be far away,
but she's here with me.

They're getting c*ck.
We might be able to catch up.

Yeah.

No…

Grab a piping bag, sweetheart.
You're using a scoop.

-That's amateur.
-It's infallible.

Use a sleeve, and it'll be faster.

We won't lose in the first round.

ROUND 1

-There we go.
-Right.

Vertically, there.

And then we start
putting the jewels on top.

The pineapples, golden wings.
We're getting closer.

They're beautiful.

Looking at the clock is so frustrating.

It's frozen, and I can only wait.

-Rubí! Done.
-Come on.

I think this is the fastest cupcake
we've done in all the episodes.

They finished.

-No way. They finished the cupcakes.
-With pineapple chips.

I think that's it, right?

ROUND 1

Israel and Iván

and Ruth and Rubí finished their cupcakes.

Where's the notebook?

My dear Luis,
what is the creation challenge about?

Capi, this is the finale.

They have to take inspiration
from a Mexican legend.

La Llorona, the kissing alley,
aluxes, the legend of Popo and Izta.

That's really hard.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS

-We'll make it with…
-Chocolate.

What legend?

The hummingbird is a beautiful animal.

It represents good wishes and good news.

Why don't we make a chocolate coulant,

made with dark chocolate
that has lemon on the inside?

The hummingbird is definitely inspiring.

How do you like your desserts?
Chocolate, raspberry?

I don't really like chocolate.

Careful with what you say.

If you make it, I'll eat it.

-I'll get started.
-'Cause I'm good.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATION

We'll take inspiration
from the legend of vanilla.

We'll make vanilla orchids
and put them on the dessert.

Our decorations will be simple because…

-Sometimes, less is more.
-Exactly.

Bakers, we're officially
an hour into the finale

of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

Two teams have presented their cupcakes.

One team hasn't even started yet.

Forget the other teams.
They don't exist. Just look at the clock.

We definitely
don't have time for mistakes.

We need to be perfect.

-It's prettier this way.
-Yeah, I'm on it.

I think we're both bossy.

I like it this way better.
On the bottom, not to the side.

I'm more tolerant.

-Just let me.
-Okay.

Alan, Ale, to your mixers.
Your time starts now!

Ale, there's no time for games.

Give me the best marble cake you've got
and the best crumble you've got.

-Got it.
-Show them why we're from the underworld.

For this cupcake, I'd like to talk
about the king of the underworld,

Mictlantecuhtli.

And the spirit guide, the xoloitzcuintle.

The xoloitzcuintle is the only being
that can go to the underworld and back.

So I'll make
a chocolate xoloitzcuintle, Ale.

-Got it?
-Yeah.

I'll move the crumble.

-No, leave it.
-Yeah?

We're pretty anxious to finish this stage.

That million pesos feels so close.

-Cupcakes going in the oven.
-Got it.

Wendy, you seem captivated.

Let's take a tour so you can experience
the scents, textures, and everything else.

You're right, Capi.

I'm really interested and eager to taste

all these appetizing treats.

The compote is on the stove, Iván.

Now I'll make the avocado cream

and the crumble.

Okay.

-Israel, Iván, we've come to visit.
-How are you? Welcome.

I admire Wendy. She's hilarious.

-Tell me the legend of vanilla.
-Sure.

You know everything, baby.

In Veracruz, in Papantla, there was a king
with a beautiful daughter.

And she met a warrior.

But she was forbidden to fall in love,
so they were sacrificed.

-No!
-That's awful!

-For love?
-Yeah.

They spread their blood,
saw that a bush grew from it,

and an orchid wrapped around the bush.

And the vanilla pods came from the orchid.

It's very pretty. Look it up.

Hey, we got some gossip
and some knowledge.

Of course, now I'll share it
with all my neighbors.

Okay, should I mix that one
with the raspberry?

I don't want you to mix them.

I want you to wrap this one
when we're done beating.

Wrap it. So I whip it now?

No. Let's wait for the coulant.

Haste makes waste.

Alan and Ale, you're finally working.

-Hi there.
-This is Wendy.

Hi. Are you two dating?

-No.
-No.

I thought I saw… Never mind.

They fought a lot at first.
Now not so much.

You have spats. Yeah. They told me
you tried to throttle him a few times.

You have big personalities.

If you calm down, I'll calm down.

I'll make them if you want,
but we won't get to the finale.

We've got fiery tempers,
but we've found a way to work it out.

We want to be as calm
and patient as possible

to do well in this challenge.

We won't distract you.
You're short on time. Good luck.

-Good luck.
-Thanks.

-Is the crumble done?
-Yeah, I'm going.

-Let's start placing these.
-Okay.

Don't break them.

We're both really nervous,
but we've got a good feeling about it.

We're making progress,
and we'll deliver the first part soon.

I'll add the crumbs.

Okay? Just cover it a bit.
Let the green show.

-Ready.
-One, two…

ROUND 1

Israel and Iván just finished.

-We're first, man.
-We did it.

Those two finished.

TIME REMAINING

-What's up?
-They're finishing, but we're okay.

They finished first,

but maybe it's not set,
or it's curdled, or it's not good.

Wendy, it's finally time to taste.

Just what I wanted.
It looks good from here.

-What I can see.
-That's why you're here.

Of course.

It's lukewarm.
I'll put it back in. Are you finished?

-This is cold.
-Yeah.

-If I add this, it'll cool.
-Got it.

Israel and Iván,
you're the first to finish

the first round of the finale.

-Congratulations.
-Thank you.

Tell us first about your final cupcake.

The flavors we used are
banana, passion fruit, and walnut.

We chose the butterfly
as our magical creature.

When a family member
or close friend passes away,

a white butterfly will visit you,
even if you don't see it,

and it's a way for them
to say goodbye to you.

I don't like it.

It can't be.

I love it!

She had us sweating.

I love how the iridescent color looks.

Thanks.

I like it a lot.

The cupcake felt
a bit dense, texture-wise.

Dang.

Now tell us what inspired this creation
and how you made it.

We used vanilla as the common thread
between four flavors.

There's chocolate, pumpkin seeds,
avocado, and tomatoes.

The cacao crumbs are great.

The cake is well-cooked.

Sometimes microwaved cakes
become dry on the edges, but not this one.

Great work.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

I'm a real expert in flavor. I love it.

Though I'm an expert
in enchiladas, pozole, all that.

-I'm not offended.
-On the contrary.

-That's why we chose tomato.
-Now you've got me here.

I did notice the tomato. It was tasty.

I prefer street food. I love it.

We're doing well.

-Congratulations.
-Thank you.

-Just a bit more.
-We'll put in the coulant.

I'm very anxious.
I'm having trouble waiting.

Two minutes.

So, we're not plating anything
that's half-done, ugly, or not ready.

You're adding the worm salt, right?

Yeah.

Should I spray it with mezcal?

Sounds good.

Since we're short on time,

we can't help but think
about what's coming.

ROUND 1

Let's move on.

ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS

Honestly, the most iconic legend I know,

the first one that went viral
and jumped from Mexico to Latin America,

is the chupacabra.

Okay.

It apparently sucks goats' blood.

So we'll use raspberry to imitate that.

Goat cheese.

-Yeah, okay.
-A soft almond cake.

We want to make the tale fun.

It's maddening. Just be done already.

-Yeah.
-Right?

-Your chocolate is in the microwave.
-Got it.

To succeed in this challenge,

you have to have
a lot of technical know-how.

I'll check on my crumble.

-Did you time your cake?
-Yeah.

-Put it there.
-Then put the other one here.

You're putting this,
and I'm putting it before.

Let's go.

ROUND 1

Hit it.

The girls are done, but we're okay.

-Right?
-It doesn't matter.

TIME REMAINING

Ruth and Rubí,
your last cupcakes, your last creation.

Tell us about your cupcake
and what animal you took inspiration from.

Okay.

In this case, it's from Aztec culture,

and it's the king of birds, the atotolin.

It's a pineapple and pine nut cake,

with a caramelized pineapple core

and a Swiss meringue buttercream
with honey.

I love the amaranth flavor. It's great.

It was just a bit hard.

Oh, what can I say?

The frosting was a bit greasy.

But the flavor was delicious.

If you don't want your wing, I'll take it.
It's good. Excuse me.

I did like it.

She loved it and kept eating.

I'm so glad.

To be honest, I didn't like this
because it's too hard.

-Okay.
-Like a rock.

Wendy, where are you heading with this?

Be careful.

-And don't hate me.
-Never.

Tell us about this creation.

We based it on the legend
of the hummingbird.

We wanted to make a dessert
that had the essence of nature.

That's why it has a lemon core, a coulant,

the whipped lemon and raspberry ganache,
and the lemon foam.

Is the flower edible?

-Yeah.
-Excuse me, I'm…

Good, right?

-What's this?
-Caramel.

-Oh, I got scared.
-No.

-What's this yellow thing?
-Lemon curd.

I like it. It tastes great.

Gorgeous, beautiful, sweet.

It's well done.
I thought it was all chocolate.

I was surprised
the filling wasn't just chocolate.

I think that using fondant
is playing it safe.

I would've taken some risks.

I don't know
if this will come back to bite us.

-Good luck, girls.
-Thank you.

The jam…

Pour it low.
If it's too high, it'll take too long.

Low, and the cake will be lower this time.

We don't want to waste one more second.

-Are you nervous?
-Yeah. They're going slow.

-Yeah.
-And they started last.

And that worries me.

If there's another cold tray,
put it in that so it gets cold.

If this was frozen, I'd plate right now.

We have to cool it as fast as we can.
I can't ask the freezer to cool faster.

Are they done?

Alan.

Oh my God, the anxiety.

I'm afraid that when it's time to unmold,
it'll start to collapse.

Alan, bring it.

But we'll do our best
to make it look pretty.

I'll unmold if you want. No--

I can see they're going a bit slow.

-No.
-Yeah.

-Or the edges will show.
-No.

I don't agree with
how Alan is decorating this cake.

You can feel the tension.

-Yes, Ale.
-No, I would've done it differently.

-We can fix it.
-That's too much cream.

-Buzz in.
-Let's go.

ROUND 1

-I would've decorated it differently.
-The edges were showing.

-It's not… No.
-No? We'll see what happens.

TIME REMAINING

I had an idea ready.

-Why didn't you tell me?
-I did!

I need a moment.
I need Alan to give me my space.

So I can be angry.

Alan and Ale, you did it.

You delivered the first part
of the finale.

Tell us about your cupcake first, please.

Sure, Capi. Gladly.

It's a xoloitzcuintle,
the only being capable of moving freely

between this world and the next.

We wanted to make a crumble,

and the Mexican element
we're using is a light mezcal misting.

It has worm salt and a touch of orange.

Because mezcal without orange
and salt isn't mezcal, right?

I didn't really like it
because… it has salt.

I'm not used to that kind of dessert.

If I eat something sweet,
all of it has to be sweet.

-Or if it's savory, all savory.
-Okay.

But this has a bit of both, just like me.

If you catch my drift.

-I can identify with it.
-Okay.

Visually, it's beautiful. It shines.

This is amazing.

I would've liked a bit more sugar.

You know I prefer sweet things.

But the flavors, together, were delicious.

It's very hard to please Mis Pastelitos.

She's too sweet.

Please tell us about this creation.

The twist here, or the main element,

is the whipped white chocolate ganache,
the acid from raspberry, with the crumble.

Did you plan to plate it like this,
or was it a last-minute decision?

No, it wasn't planned.

I love this. I like the flavors
of the goat cheese and raspberry,

and the cake is very neutral.

But we could tell
it was rushed when you plated it.

-What's this white stuff?
-Cream, or mousse.

-Whipped white chocolate ganache.
-It's too much.

Do better next time,
or I'll have to return it.

Okay.

All right, finalist bakers.

Today, you paid homage to Mexican legends.

Congratulations.

However, as you know,

one team must be eliminated now.

But before that,
one team was the judges' favorite

in this first round.

Looking at what the others did,

I think we've got a good shot
at being the best.

That team is…

I'm feeling like…

I don't know if I should pray
to Our Lady of Tres Cantos.

I really hope
we make it to the final challenge

to show that we can make a cake
just as spectacular

even with the odds against us.

Ruth and Rubí.

Congratulations.

-No!
-No way! The best?

Congratulations, Ruth and Rubí.
Enjoy this victory.

Dear God, Rubí.
We're here. The million is so close.

It's right here.

It's time to let you know

which team
will not be continuing in the finale.

We know there's a chance
we might be sent packing.

The team that won't be continuing
in the finale is…

Alan and Ale.

We're gonna cry.

You are spectacular bakers.

I personally admire you
and respect you greatly.

This applause is for you.

I think I need to…

dedicate more time
to myself and rediscover

the Alan that has a life

outside of baking,
chocolate, competitions, and teaching.

Good luck.

-Thank you so much.
-Give it your all.

I don't know where he is.
I don't know him.

-Master chef.
-Congratulations.

I know that I'm not at 100% yet,

but no matter what obstacles I encounter,
I know I can handle them.

Bye, friends!

Bakers, you've proven

that you are the best with your creations.

We've managed to impress
the judges so far.

And that's why you're here,

in front of
this beautiful geometric trophy.

We're freaking out.

A lot.

My dear Wendy,
what will our bakers have to do

in this final challenge?

They'll have to use
the magical art of our country.

This cake is a huge challenge for me,

but I'm not worried because Rubí
knows a lot about Mexican art.

So we want it to be bright, loud,

full of feelings
and with all the bells and whistles.

Basically, you'll have to choose

the art from a specific place
of our magical Mexico.

There are a lot of options.

There are many communities to choose from.

Just keep in mind that this cake
that carries the essence of our country

will be what determines
if you win one million pesos.

-We're a team.
-Yeah.

-We'll give it our all.
-Yep.

Israel, Iván, you finished first

and have three hours,
19 minutes and 18 seconds

to create this cake.

-Do you think we'll make it?
-Yeah, I think so.

Ruth, Rubí,

you've got two hours,
47 minutes and 22 seconds.

You'll start later.

Oh my God.

It's so little time.

Israel, Iván,

get to your mixers.

Your time starts now!

ROUND 2

ROUND 2
CAKES

It's a race against the clock.

We'll make a cake inspired by Huichol art.

It's gluing glass beads with wax.

One by one, color by color.

The idea for the cake
is to place a jaguar head

on the top.

We have to make wafer paper flowers

to emulate
the corn husk flowers they make.

-Like a tamal.
-Yeah.

Nothing more Mexican than tangerines.

The cake will be chocolate,

the crumbs will be cacao with coffee,

a tangerine cream,

and a mango compote with some guava.

-Delicious.
-To the oven.

-How's it going? Good?
-Yeah.

My heart's beating out of my chest.

Seeing their cakes
in the oven while we're still waiting

is driving me crazy,
so I'll just look away.

Sorry. We're dancing, man.

Isra, the one with tattoos,
he's the technician.

Iván decorates. He's an artist.
He does amazing things.

If we hadn't come together,
I don't think we would've gotten this far.

I think it's brought us closer together.
Our friendship is more solid than ever.

We just have to carve our initials

into an agave leaf.

I don't know
if you're staring at your opponents

to pressure them, or--

We're not staring.
They can do what they want.

Since it's magical Mexico,
I thought maybe you were jinxing them.

No! We like them a lot.

They're nice guys.

We've still got ten minutes
on Ruth and Rubí.

The cake smells great.

The cakes just need five more minutes.

-And the crumbs?
-I'll check them.

I think it needs about three.

Start warming up.

We've got butterflies in our stomachs.

-Get ready.
-Come on!

Get to your mixers.

Your time starts now!

ROUND 2

Our cake will be based on Oaxacan art.

We'll make a basket
like the ones from Guelaguetza,

a black clay vase, and a heart.

We want to put our hearts into this.

With flowers.

The halo from the Tehuana costumes.

-I want to add all of it.
-We'll see. We have less than three hours.

-I love you.
-Let's go.

Come on.

It'll be a coconut cake

with a cheese and chocolate buttercream,

and a passion fruit
with toasted coconut filling.

How many ganaches are done?

Two, going on three.

-Shouldn't we start assembling?
-Yeah.

Or start making the head
to make some progress.

The jaguar head
sounds risky and complicated,

but we've got an ace up our sleeves.

I think I'll cover it with fondant.

Making it isn't too complex.

We'll make a texture silicone mold

and we'll stretch fondant on top
to cover more ground and save time.

Why is this not working?

Ruth, calm down, please.

Why isn't it working?

It won't start,
and I'm wondering why it won't.

Oh my God.

There you go.

Thank you, Grandma.

Calm down. You and your nerves.

Bakers, there are two hours left

in the grand finale
of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point!

There's just 120 minutes
standing between a team

and one million pesos.

I'm so nervous.

And more importantly,
the golden geometric cupcake.

-Pour your hearts…
-Yes!

-…into this sweet art.
-Our whole heart!

Let's go! I'm so excited.

-Is the head done?
-I'll start painting. How are you doing?

I've got two assembled.
Starting with the third.

This kind of technique is
one of the most complex and elaborate

in the entire country, right?

Aren't they sh**ting themselves
in the foot?

I think they could struggle with it,
but Iván looks really confident.

-Ruth.
-What?

-I love you.
-My God, you scared me.

I love you too.

How are they doing?

Can you tell?

Like a year behind us.

-We can't get c*ck, man.
-No.

Ruth and Rubí are strong opponents.

It will hurt to beat them,
but we have to do it.

I think I'll have the head done
in half an hour.

God bless me.

-Bless us.
-And what will be will be.

Bless me more. I'm making the head.

I'm diluting pigments
in alcohol to cover more ground.

Normally, I think it'd take me
about two to three hours

to make it detailed.

I'll let this rest in the fridge.

-Then I'll cover it with black, okay?
-Right.

Iván is painting something so detailed,
I'm wondering what he's up to.

Dear God, what are we up against?

Right now, it's like…

Yeah, because both teams
are running like clockwork.

Think there's time to make the flowers?

Yeah.

-Promise?
-Yeah.

-Twenty minutes, tops.
-Okay.

I feel like this prize right now
depends on me

because if we don't finish the head,

the cake won't stand out.

I'm worried they won't finish.

They're bad at estimating.

-They really are.
-They look so confident. Let them be.

-I'll put it in the chiller.
-Yeah.

Let's see if I can move this.

-Need help?
-Yeah.

Help me move it. I don't wanna touch it.

Could it break?

It could get damaged, sure.

You're so smart. Oh, darn it!

Oh, Rubí!

Sorry. I'm pedal to the metal.

I'm super focused.

Ten minutes in the chiller?

How are you doing? It's been 20 minutes.

These guys you see here have messed up
several times during the competition.

-There's not much left to do.
-No.

I hope that's not the case.

I'm feeling all the pressure
on my shoulders.

-Should I make the flowers?
-Only if you promise to do it fast.

Bakers, I can't believe I'm saying this,

but we're coming up
on the last hour of the competition.

Give it your all, bakers!
Hold nothing back!

I'm feeling really nervous
because of the time limit.

Rubí, it's beautiful.

I'll add the halo.

We're trying to manage our time
so everything works out.

My dear friends, Isra and Iván.

Hi.

How are you doing?

-We're short on time.
-Right.

-Stressed out?
-Very.

Are you satisfied with your jaguar head?

-It's not done yet.
-Okay.

But this is urgent.

Is this the only thing you'll paint
with this technique?

It depends on the time.

I'm not achieving what I had in mind.

So I'll have to improvise.
There's no other way.

Good luck.

-Hope you have enough time.
-That's right.

But I have to try.

Never in the history
of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point

has this station been so quiet.

They're paired via Bluetooth.

-Or something.
-No.

Telepathically.

Can you imagine how focused I am?
I can't even think of a joke.

Why the heart?
Why is it so shiny and realistic?

We thought about this.

-We're gonna put our heart into it.
-You arranged it?

No matter what, we were gonna use a heart.

If we have anything left,
we're leaving it here.

That heart is ours.

-What are you making?
-The flowers.

How many do you have?

Eleven.

I see Iván start to sweat and stress out.

He's not answering
with the same enthusiasm.

Do you want to glue some now?

I'll wait to place them all at once.
I'll make it symmetrical.

I don't think we can wait too long.

No. I just need to finish these two.

Bakers, you have 30 minutes
to finish your cakes.

Also, I don't know if you know this,
but there's a million pesos at stake!

And the golden cupcake of champions.

We need to improvise now,
or we won't make it.

I made some embroidered flowers.

The silence is k*lling me. It's worrying.

How many braids?

-Come again?
-How many braids?

You never hear me!

-What is it?
-When they start fighting, look out.

-You can feel the tension.
-No.

Like this?

-Yeah.
-You sure?

And these two are starting
to lose their composure.

ROUND 2

-Think I got time for the embroidery?
-No.

Seeing that things
didn't turn out like we had planned

makes me really mad.

So what do we put here?

Do you want to add
more detail… to the head?

Yeah.

We have 21 minutes.

I see the head, and I don't like it.

Iván usually does more detailed work.

I don't think we're on the right path.

My God, I can't believe this is over.

ROUND 2

I was wondering what that black ball was.

And now I turned around
and was like, "Whoa."

-Should they stick easily?
-Yeah.

-Can you do it?
-Yeah.

When you take over,
I just keep my mouth shut.

Bakers!

It's the last ten minutes

of our spectacular competition,
Sugar Rush: The Baking Point.

I'm ready to collapse.

In ten minutes, we'll know
who will be taking home the million pesos!

The last cake in this kitchen.
We'll miss it.

Come on.

Ten minutes.

I'd like to swap these.

I think we could've made the choice
to make the processes more simple.

to make something that,
at first glance, fit the bill.

What if you put this one on this side?

It'll be the same.

How are they doing?

They're getting there.

Now we're a bit stressed.

We need to pour our hearts
into this cake for the finale.

Pun intended.
And we really can't hold anything back.

I have to go to the other side.

Five minutes!

Five minutes left in the grand finale!

Five minutes, and part of me
is falling apart, feeling defeated.

For the love of God, finish your cakes!

-This stick is poking out.
-Take it out.

No.

No, Rubí, we're ruining it.

Take it out.

-This moment is…
-Epic.

I have my doubts
because I can feel it moving.

It's squishing it. It's not right.

Two minutes. Just two.

What if we put one on top?

One what?

Something like a filling.

I'd have to paint it.

I'll glue it.

Will it stick?

Final minute!

ROUND 2

Dear God.

The teeth are falling out.

Take it easy.

-Where do we put it?
-Back here.

He's finally placing it.
I'm so stressed out.

Man…

More flowers.
Make sure the heart's showing.

Wow. No way. It does look different.

Wow.

Okay. Go.

Ten, nine, eight,

seven, six, five,

four, three, two, one!

-That's it, bakers!
-My God!

-We did it!
-Yeah.

-It's just like we dreamed.
-Yeah, it's beautiful.

What they did was amazing.

There's no turning back.
You can't do anything else. It's over.

You did what you could.
Maybe not what you wanted.

Israel and Iván, congratulations.
You did an amazing job.

Not just today, but throughout the season.

Thanks.

Tell us about your techniques
and inspiration.

We were inspired by Huichol art.

We also wanted to represent
the flowers they make from corn husks

and flowers that looked embroidered.

How did you do
with the head, specifically?

It was a bit hard to work
within that time frame.

But I made it.

This time, we'll give our opinion
at the judges' table.

Okay.

Our cake might be slightly inferior

in terms of decoration,

but I think the flavor
could determine the result.

Ruth, Rubí, you literally gave it your all
until the last second.

The finale was no exception.

Tell us about your creation
and your inspiration.

Okay. We were primarily inspired
by Oaxaca.

The lower tier
is a basket from the Guelaguetza,

a very important holiday.

The black clay vase

and a heart.

-Cut your heart and give us some slices.
-My God!

-We'll be at the table.
-Thanks.

Let's go. I want them to taste it.

Let's start with Ruth and Rubí.

Bring us your cakes, please.

Dear God!

Our base was Oaxacan cocada.

So the cake is coconut.

The buttercream is a cream cheese
and butter frosting with dark chocolate.

Between the layers there's
a passion fruit and toasted coconut cream.

I think we made something beautiful
in very little time.

The heart of the cake
is what caught my eye.

I like how you decorated it. The details.

Super special.

The combinations you chose.

You're incredibly creative
when it comes to combining flavors.

This cake is "eshpeshial."

Thanks.

She loves it!

Go ahead, my dear Wendy.

I felt it was too greasy on my palate,
too heavy.

Does that make sense?

-Excuse me?
-Beyond that, I love passion fruit.

And the cake is nice and spongy.

Really.

You can't feel the victory.

I would've used more techniques
than just fondant.

The passion fruit,
the coconut, the chocolate, it all works.

Except that you guys
always gave me something crunchy,

and I was expecting it here.

No matter what happens,
you have my respect.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

Iván, Israel, one last time,
bring us a slice of cake, please.

I can only trust the flavor

and hope the judges decide
they love the cake's interior.

You'll find flavors from all over Mexico.

The main part is the chocolate

because it's in the cake, the topping,

and in the crumble that's inside.

You'll also find a light tangerine cream

and a mango and guava compote.

I loved that you didn't use fondant

because it looked so smooth
that it seemed like fondant.

The flavor was fascinating.

This shows how great you are as bakers.

You truly make delicious things.

In my opinion,
this cake was also "eshpeshial."

I feel like I'm gonna pass out.

I loved the decoration.

I'm all about flowers
and things like that,

but the head was a bit too dark for me.

Okay.

When Iván explained the Huichol theme,
my expectations were so high

that I felt like this cake
didn't meet them.

I expected more detailed work.

I understand you used
perfectly matching flavors.

Both textures, the cream and the compote,
complement it well.

Overall, it's a really balanced cake,
and you have my respect.

-Thanks.
-Thanks.

That gives me a lot of confidence.

All right, it's the moment of truth.

Ruth, Rubí,

please join Israel and Iván
in front of the table.

We're happy to share this with them
because they're talented.

May the best one win.

The defining moment
of this competition has come.

The judges' vote.

We're competing against the greats,
so it won't be easy.

What I want to hear from you, judges,

is who do you think is the winning team
of Sugar Rush: The Baking Point?

Wendy?

I really liked this team's cake.

I loved the decoration,
so my vote goes to…

I need to know.
It doesn't matter who. Just say it.

Israel and Iván.

Thanks.

That's it, Wendy!

That's why we love you.

The team I'll choose,

if I sit back and examine
the whole season, all the challenges,

this team, to me,

always achieved
the two most important goals of a cake,

having it taste delicious
and look gorgeous.

So my vote goes to…

I breathe and breathe,
but I'm not getting any oxygen.

We have one vote so far.

But I'm still very nervous.

…Ruth and Rubí.

We're happy because it's amazing,

but anything can happen.

Today, and in their overall performance,

I feel one team
stood out a bit more than the other.

My vote goes to…

Ruth and Rubí.

Congratulations, Ruth and Rubí!

You're the winners of
Sugar Rush: The Baking Point!

It's unbelievable. I can't believe it.

This is real.

Hug each other
and savor the sweet taste of victory.

All right. We knew they were strong.

Both of you, come and receive your trophy.

Winning this trophy means a lot to us

because it reinforces
our confidence in our craft.

Of course, you should also remember
that you won one million pesos!

Congratulations.

I feel a bit sad

because we already had plans
for the million pesos.

Congratulations.
You're excellent professionals.

Thanks.

I'm content with the decision

because they worked hard
and put in a lot of effort.

-I've learned a lot from you.
-Me too. Thank you.

Thanks for everything.

For teaching me so much,

and putting your heart in it
each and every time.

I'm super proud of Rubí.

And I'm really proud of Ruth.

I had a friend,
but now I have a half-sister.

Because you and I…

Thanks.

Rubí!

Congratulations!
