Jeremy: Well, it's one more day

before I head out
to the Philippines.

I told myself and my wife,

"I'm gonna get on 'Naked
and Afraid' one day."

In the right conditions,
using bamboo,

I've got it down to where
I can have a fire going

in less than two minutes.

And we got a fire.

coming to town there.

off the coast of Manila

in the Philippines
lies west Nalaut island.

Hellishly hot and humid,
the tangled vegetation

is a breeding
ground for mosquitos

that carry the deadly
dengue fever virus

and the venomous
Philippine cobra,

whose bite can k*ll a person
in less than 30 minutes.

From a distance,
a tropical paradise,

but a closer look reveals a
deadly and inhospitable place,

a demanding test for even
the most skilled survivalist.

I'd be lying if I said I
wasn't nervous a little bit.

My heart's kind of...

But it's a good nervous.

My name's Jeremy. I'm
out of Monroe, Louisiana.

I'm 38 years old, and
I'm in construction.

I'm definitely out of my element
out here in the Philippines.

I've been pretty much living in
the bayou state my whole life,

doing my own hunting,
fishing, catching gators,

and snaring my hogs.

A lot of people in my life
probably underestimated me.

A few people back home
think that I'll be home

in just a few days.

They don't think I'll make this,

but I'm wanting to
do this challenge

just to prove to my friends
and my family I can do it.

I'm definitely in
a time in my life

where I'm discovering
who I am as an individual,

and I want to push myself
to the point of breaking

and see if I have what it takes.

harsh island setting,

wilderness skills,

near this eastern bay, where
the underground water table

is closest to the surface.

It looks like we're right here.

And we have some
possibly freshwater.

So it wouldn't

right now, I'm all for it.

So I don't feel like we
need to build a shelter here.

the fire-saw method,

Jeremy first creates
bamboo shavings

that will form a tinder bundle.

Placing the tinder
in the top section

of the hollow bamboo,

the friction from
the sawing motion

should generate enough
heat to ignite the tinder

through a hole in the bamboo.

I'm starting to feel
like it's a real possibility

this water is too far
underneath the dirt.

So I'm gonna head back
and help my partner out.

Maybe we can dig

I'd spent a good bit of

the underground water table
is affected by tidal pressure.

The level in Cassidy
and Jeremy's water well

is dropping because of
the changing ocean tides.

Jeremy: It's getting shallower
and shallower by the day.

Cassidy: You know, we
could cut down a banana tree

and see if water
comes to the stump.

Jeremy: We only got
a few banana trees,

but if you cut them off
down there at the stump,

hollow it out, and the
roots will pull water up.

You can't drink that
water right away.

This first batch of this
water is real bitter-tasting.

We got to empty it out
and wait a few hours

and let it fill back up again.

Yeah, you just scoop the
first couple waters out of it...

and then eventually,

you'll get clear,
clean, delicious water.

tired, stressed, and over-worked.

Right now I'm kind of at a loss
of what to do about this water

Our well is running low.

I'm not really sure how
much more of this I can take.

I'm trying to stay positive.

I'm just not sure how much
more my body can take.

Jeremy: Yeah, I'm just running.

I mean, I can't even go
on that drill over there...

I mean, the bamboo fire saw.

We can ration out
everything we can

and try to make the 21 days

and pray for the best.
