Narrator: Being at the mercy
of mother nature is scary,

nerve-racking, and
sometimes thrilling,

often all at once.

My first impression of
Belize was the canopy.

That was... that was
very overwhelming.

And the sounds...

[ Insects chirping,
monkeys grunting ]

Sounds I've never heard before,
so it took me back a little bit.

It... that's when it
really got real for me.

I prepared myself for the
jungle of Belize with Google.

I've never been to
the jungle before.

My challenge took
place off of Panama,

on a really small island
in the middle of the jungle.

So the trees
were incredibly tall.

And it cut off the sun.

My first impression
of the jungle

is that it's really thick
and vegetated and lush.

At first, the Panama jungle
was really intimidating.

I found out yesterday

that there are k*ller
bees in the area

and so much so that some

of the production
camera crew were stung,

so that's really
concerning to me.

So we're on a scout.

We've been told there's
some beehives around here.

So we have to be quiet.

Apparently, there's
some... -oh. Bees! Bees!

Man: Ow! Oh!

Get off me! Bees!

Ow! Oh!

Get off me!

Oh, my God.

[ Retching ]

[ Coughing ]

Man #2: What we're
doing now is taking out

the remainder of the stings.

So David, like me,
has a lot of hair.

And we're trying to get some
of those last little stingers out.

That kind of says
it all right there.

That's n... that
Nicky's first show?

Um, my... I don't know.

And I don't think it's
ever been this bad for...

for any crew.

Okay. You ready? Relax.

Albert: I feel like
[Bleep] feel bad.

Now, it feels like, uh,
it's getting harder...

harder to talk right now.

My speech is
getting s... slurred.

Uh, do I need to talk to the
medic about that, maybe?

Jungles of Belize, man.

Doesn't get any
better than this.

On our way into insertion,

I got nailed with branches
on the way in. Um...

Ah. That was a nice one.

I was just really nervous.

And having all the
branches fall on me,

I was thinking, "that's a snake.

That's a spider. That's a snake.

That's a spider."

I feel comfortable here,
surprisingly enough.

Um...

I think I would have
been a bit disappointed

if I didn't get whacked in
the head a couple times

with some branches
on a ride like that.

I dig it.

Narrator: Getting challengers
into their survival locations

can be tricky,

as Cassidy discovered
when she make landfall

on the island of West
Nalaut in the Philippines.

[ Man speaking indistinctly ]

That is serious.

When we first got
out to the island,

the surf got big.

At one point, thought
we were gonna, like...

the whole boat, you
know, was gonna turn over.

And the producer, Constantine,

was trying to work
with the captain.

And there was some
language barriers.

We don't want to go there.

[ Speaking native language ]

He's got us running
parallel with the waves.

I can't explain it.

And we cannot be
parallel with the waves.

[Bleep] [Bleep]

Was just hanging
on for dear life.

Like, the boat was
flipping around.

The camera guys
were going on one side.

I'm going to the
other. And I'm like,

"how are we gonna
get onto land?"

Think it'll be a
fun swim to shore.

Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.

And we're looking
at each other like,

"I hope we can
get to the island."

- All right.
- Okay, okay, okay, okay.

It's hard to articulate how
I'm feeling right now, really.

Ah, oh!

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Whoo!

I'm pretty stoked, you know,

being... being able to
represent the country.

I was, you know, from Louisiana.

Feels good.

Thailand...

Let's see what you got.

Narrator: Getting naked
in front of strangers

is one of the first obstacles
the survivalists must overcome.

And, for some, this can
be extremely uncomfortable.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Annie: So the moment
when it came down

to taking the clothes
off, it was extremely hard.

I'm just forewarning you guys,
like, my stomach is like, eh.

So if I throw up on
anybody, it's not my fault.

I did not think it was
gonna be a big deal.

But it took me, I don't know.

It felt like forever.

I was nauseous, and
it took me a lot of, uh,

calming myself and
re-evaluating everything

to finally get to the point
where I could hold my breath

long enough to disrobe.

I think I should have practiced
being naked around new people.

All right. All those lucky
animals out there, or unlucky,

they get to see me
naked for 21 days.

Here we go.

Okay. All right.

All right. Well, let's do it.

I got to tell you,
when I met my partner,

very awkward, so uncomfortable.

I was just looking in her eyes.

And she looked like a
scared, little puppy dog.

When we were going to
introduce ourselves, I s...

I think she was so
focused on, "oh, my gosh!

What do I say? I'm right here.

I'm meeting Trent."

Do you go
skinny-dipping here often?

- No.
- Oh. Me either.

- Whew.
- Oh. Watch your step.

She just... she slipped.

And I think that made
her even more nervous.

My heart is racing.

And she introduced herself.

And we headed up the hill.

And she was just
awesome after that.

Narrator: Awkward body language,

lack of eye contact, the
feeling of being watched,

these are some of the things
our challengers experience

when meeting each
other for the first time.

Oh, my gosh.

Taking my clothes
off for the first time

was, like, the most
horrible thing ever.

It was pretty embarrassing.

And remember, don't get
between the hippo and the water.

I think my biggest
concern was I was fixing

to strip it all off
and get naked on TV.

I think that's probably
my biggest concern.

Oh, man. Just... I
mean, how many people

actually just meet
in the nude like this?

So, you know, we're walking up.

You know, you try not to
look anywhere else, just keep...

and just... just go with it.

I was walking towards her.

She was pretty. You
know, she seemed nice.

And it was like we'd
known each other for years.

- I can't believe we're here.

Taking off my clothes
was not an issue at all.

However, meeting my partner
was a different, you know,

sort of feeling.

He was not shy around me at all.

As far as casual sharing
of bodily functions,

he let it roll, for sure.

I was out in the jungle.
It's not like I had to be quiet

Narrator: Biting
insects, large or small,

will typically feast on
whatever meat they can find.

And the exposed flesh of
"Naked and Afraid" survivalists

often makes a tasty meal.

Whew, that burns.

Ow. Son of a...

right on my nuts.

They were everywhere. I
counted 40 ticks on my junk.

Oh, [bleep]

What was that?

Really?
- Yeah.

It was very invasive.

I feel violated.

Ew. Ugh.

Hobbs: Uh, on our first night,

I felt something kind of big
hit me in the side of the face.

So I grabbed the
little handheld camera.

And I turned on
the night vision.

And it was a 3-inch c*ck.

Humongous c*ck.

That's what was
touching my face.

I thought I had a toad...
- Oh, my gosh.

...crawling. That thing
is bigger than my thumb.

And there were dozens of them

all over the inside
of the shelter.

We had no idea that there were
so many c*ck around us.

I think there must have been
a nest right next to our shelter

because they would
crawl up into our shelter.

Ah, [bleep]

Hobbs: Okay. So it's
the morning of day 15.

And the chitras are
out in full force again.

There were these biting
gnats called chitras.

And they came out of nowhere.

And they were ferocious.

And my partner is over
here, having another...

another terrible reaction

to these little
biting [bleep] heads,

just having an
absolutely miserable time.

The chitras were
deadly, in my opinion.

For some reason, they like
me more than my partner.

Um, they b... they bit me
everywhere I can imagine.

Hobbs: She was
hurting in a bad, bad way

because of those little [bleep]

Tara's feet started to swell up.

And she started to get
cracks in between her toes

and have this yellow,
creamy pus ooze

out between her toes.

Tara: I felt like my
whole body was on fire.

And all the bug bites
underneath my skin,

some of 'em feel like there's
little marbles underneath there.

They're, like, a hard,
white, pus-y, little marble.

I don't know. It feels
like pins and needles

crawling up and down my body.

It was miserable.

I learned really quickly that
I needed to mud my body.

This is all nice and warm

from the coconut
husk being in the fire.

It feels really good.

Yeah? Ooh. It is kinda warm.

The ash helped me a lot.

After the ash would
dry on my body,

it would make this
white, chalky substance.

[ Sneezes ] Excuse...

excuse me.

I was right. The stuff
just went all over.

And I looked like a cross

between a white
powdered-sugar doughnut

and Gollum from
"Lord of the Rings."

Kim: I'm getting
eaten alive by bugs.

They're, like, worse then
they've ever been, I swear.

One of my biggest
challenges being out there

were the chitras.

Ugh. These chitras are
driving me nuts today.

The little no-see-um
bugs, they are very painful.

They're relentless.

Ah, stop! Oh, man.

Nature is a b*tch.

I would put a lot of mud on me.

I would put ash and water.

That would help with keeping
the bugs away from me.

But there was one night

I didn't have time to
go down to the water

to get ready for the bugs.

So what I'm doing
is I'm standing there,

and I'm catching my pee,
and I'm putting it on me.

And then, I grab ash.

And I use ash to
keep it on my body.

I peed on myself.

And I used the liquid
with the soot of the fire

and rubbed it all over me.

I have pee on my face.

But that's okay 'cause
I'm out in the [bleep] wild.

I can do whatever I want.

Narrator: There
is no beauty salon

or indoor plumbing available

to the "Naked and
Afraid" survivalists.

These men and
women must find ways

to stay clean the way

our ancestors did
thousands of years ago.

And it's not easy.

And, uh, I ever tell... tell...

know one thing for a fact?

It could never rain
hard enough on earth

to wash away my musk.

My musk is
water-resistant at this point.

Nice. Nice.

Well, that's something
to be proud of.

Uh-huh.

I would have bugs
crawl up and, uh,

and just kind of keel over

as they would
try to get near me.

I had a fire ant come
on me today and puke.

Lovely.

That's how good my musk is.

Oh, crap.

[Bleep]

First protein.

Trent: This tarantula,
I put it on the fire.

And I roast it.

The meat looks
like lobster meat.

That's really good.

I'm eating the meat off
the back of the tarantula

with my front teeth,
obviously. And I swallow.

And I can feel it
all over in my teeth.

I've got gaps in my teeth.

I kind of turn it. And
I can see its face.

And there's these two big
fangs coming right out of it.

Oh, but I saw this on TV once.

I always wanted to try it.

They had massive tarantulas.

And they would take the fangs

and clean their teeth
when they're done.

Works good.

I've always wanted to do that.

Seriously the best
toothpick I've ever had.

It was the perfect
length, the perfect tip.

And I was able to pick
all that tarantula meat

out of my teeth with it.

And all we really need to
remove is their inside, their innards.

Look at all these
worms inside of it.

Once everything's all
cooked, nothings gonna hurt us.

[ Monkey grunting ]

[ Animal roars ]

Ah! Get out of here!

I wonder if this is
just a hippo trail.

Oh, [bleep] Watch out.

What'd you see?

Think we're just gonna
get the hell out of this area.

Narrator: Of all the adventures

that the "Naked and Afraid"
survivalists experience,

it's their encounters
with the wild animals

that they often remember most.

[ Animal grunting ]

It was scary because
you could physically see

the hippos at night.

There's a hippo in our camp.

She's a rock star.

That girl's got it.

And then the crazy night
that I was actually sleeping

and she crawled out there
on her hands and knees trying

to get a video of the hippos,

which I didn't know
till the next morning.

I look at her, going,
"are you serious?"

I think a hippo heard us.
And I think we heard it.

Every night on that beach,
you would start hearing

this squealing noise.

[ Rustling ]

And it was just rats.

Oh. Crap.

We was knocking
'em off our hair.

They'd run up
your arm or your leg

while you're sleeping at night.

Oh, they're coming
for us. I hear the rats.

Yep.

Well, good night.

Yeah. I hope you
sleep well. We're not.

Narrator: Often, it's
not the visible threat

that frightens the survivalists.

It's those unseen creatures
that go bump in the night.

In the Maya jungle,
Trent was terrified

by something unknown
lurking in the darkness.

Trent: The sunsets
were beautiful.

The... the nights were
the worst in Belize.

The jungle would come alive.

And I remember, one
night, I'm laying there.

And I hear something
walking in the jungle.

I can hear it just
tracking back and forth.

And I'm thinking, "this
thing's stalking me."

And it gets closer and closer.

Oh, my gosh.

And I'm sitting there,
going, "holy crap.

I've... this... this
is a scary situation."

[ Animal roars ]

Ah! Get out of here!

Oh, my God. What the crap?

Get out! Ah!

And I was so scared.

And I'm like, "I
can't be up here."

And I actually
radioed for the crew.

I've never wanted
somebody here so fast.

Thank you. Thank you.

There's only been
one time in my life

I've been as scared as I was.

And that's when I
was 12 years old.

A bigfoot laid on me.

Very scary.

Narrator: Animals are
often most active at night.

It can be extremely unsettling.

In Belize, the howler monkeys
interacted with Kacie and Aaron

in a very uncivilized
way... by peeing on them.

[ Monkey grunting ]

We, uh, we m... we
made a couple jungle...

jungle friends out there.

Uh, we had a monkey
that'd visit us every night.

And we named him monkey.

[Bleep] Monkey. Or, well,
actually, we named him

listen.

[ Water dropping ]

Something's peeing
on us from the trees.

It's like this... dip your
hand in a cup of water

and throw it on someone.

Flick it at 'em. Yeah. Exactly.

That's what it's like.

So do you think a monkey
is peeing on its hand

and then flicking it on us?

We're not gonna
have this in the jungle.

- No.
- We're gonna take charge.

We need a pee-free roof system.

So we're building a new roof.

Yep.

So, yeah, on a regular basis,

monkey would roost in
the tree above us at night.

And he would pee.

[Bleep] Monkey.

Um, well, I'll never
forget monkey.

That's for sure.

Narrator: When the human
body gets hungry enough,

it will find ways
to let you know

it's time to eat something

and, depending on how
hungry you are, someone.

Kim and I have
decided, in the morning,

we're going to k*ll
one of the crew...

Kim: Oh, God.

...and eat them.

Narrator: Throughout
history, hunger pangs

have driven humans to eat
some less-than-desirable foods.

This was the case
for Cassidy and Jeremy

on the island of West

Jeremy: Looking for
water become a priority

right from the get-go.

And the first thing we found
to drink was these coconuts.

We made a little
bamboo straw, inserted it.

I know my first
response in it...

I hurled my guts up at
the taste of that thing.

I tell ya, I can't
stand coconuts.

And I hate 'em even more now.

It was just nasty.

I really hope Jeremy
likes sea cucumber.

We'll see his reaction shortly.

Um, this is what's
on the menu tonight.

When you're hungry
enough, you will eat anything.

Or at least I guess I did.

Ew. It's like

We've ate everything else.

I brought it back to Jeremy.

And I was like, "listen, Jeremy.

In some countries,

actually a delicacy."

You know, normally,
I wouldn't put

a sea cucumber in my mouth.

It kinda looks like a [bleep]

This is nasty.

Biting into this just
huge rubber thing...

Man, it was nasty.

We don't like sea
cucumber. Tastes like rubber.

Kacie: What we ate all the
time was the cahoon nuts.

Every day, all day, I ate nuts.

Oh. It's rotten. But
there's maggots in it.

I may or may not
have eaten a maggot.

Oh. There's a lot of 'em.

I don't have to catch a maggot.

They're just laying there.

They're just sitting
inside the nuts.

They're sitting in a rock.

When you find food, if
there's any opportunity

that you can eat it,
you just... you eat it.

Yeah. I don't want to
ever eat another one again.

You're not a big
lizard fan. I know.

But you're gonna eat this.

And, uh, that's the bottom line.

All right.

All we really need to
remove on these little guys

is their inside, their innards.

I heard Matt say,
"oh." I was like, "what?"

And he's like, "well,
this has worms."

Look at all these
worms inside of it.

Once everything's all cooked,
nothing's gonna hurt us.

When I first got
out there, I was like,

"I know I'm gonna
have to eat meat."

But I didn't want to
eat any of the meat.

Matt: The facial
expression that she made,

it was absolutely priceless.

She was essentially
horrified of eating these lizards

but knew she had
to eat these lizards.

Lindsay: Eating a lizard
with worms isn't my...

my favorite thing to do.

So we just make
sure that that lizard

was cooked extra well, crispy.

Matt: Uh, I never thought
I'd be eating a skunk.

But when you're out here and
you have nothing else to eat

and you need protein,
well, that's what you get.

Okay.
- And it's pretty...

There you go.

And I'm gonna take
that half of my potato.

My skin was so dry.

And after eating that skunk,

my hands were so full
of this awesome skunk oil

that I just rubbed it all,

like, all over my face.

And I just, like, padded it in.

It was so amazing.

Matt's gonna give
me a, um, skunk,

um, grease facial
for my moisturizer.

It didn't smell
like skunk per se.

And my skin just sucked
it in, like, immediately.

It was like the best
facial I've ever had.

So I guess I'm a what?

A skunk massage therapist?

Yeah, a massage therapist.

Narrator: "Naked and

- The river down there is flooded.

Bridge is gone.

Oh, my God. I have worms.

This is a team effort, 24/7.

Right here is the
big kick in the a*s.

Narrator: The "Naked
and Afraid" challenge

is sort of like a
forced marriage.

You have no control over
who you are partnered with.

And like any marriage,
there are times

when the survivalists
don't see eye to eye.

This was the case for
Tara and Hobbs in Panama.

Feeling like today's
gonna be a pretty lazy day,

something that I... I
think we both need.

Tara: Hobbs and I definitely
do not see eye to eye

when it comes to survival.

We had a chat this morning
about what to do today.

And he thinks we should
just completely take it easy.

My feelings on survival
is being proactive.

And Hobbs just kind of
laid back and napped a lot.

I was more along the
lines of, "let's do nothing."

Tara: I was
disappointed to the point

where I just got
really emotional.

He doesn't try to do things.

He might for, like,
10 or 15 minutes.

And that's it. And he gives up.

He's so incredibly lazy.

After my emotional breakdown,

I approached Hobbs
on what I was feeling.

I feel like I'm doing a
lot more than you are.

Yeah. Sorry to have
to put you through that.

When I went out there, I...
I went out a little bit c*ck

than I probably should have.

I thought that I was gonna just,

you know, make a
cakewalk of this entire thing.

And, uh, it was, uh, uh, uh,
a very humbling experience.

The food was scarce.

The river didn't really
provide a whole lot

except for water and a
...and a few little shrimp.

Caught one.

Whoa!

Did you see that?

I was unaware that
shrimp are capable of...

of jumping a
considerable amount.

Oh.

This is gonna be
harder than I thought.

And then, in addition
to that, I was hungry.

I was itchy. I was tired.

I was bored to tears.

For the most part, I
was like, "why even...

why even put forth the effort?"

This is a team effort, 24/7.

I do realize that, the
past couple of days,

I've just been exhausted.

And rather than
fighting through it,

I've just been succumbing to it.

And right here is the
big kick in the a*s.

The boredom and
the bad mood and...

and the bad attitude got to me.

And I just didn't really

feel motivated to
do much of anything.

And I did act like
a [bleep] head.

And, you know, I'm
a big enough person

to... to say that I
screwed up on that.

I... I mean, ow. That hurts.

- Oh, yeah.
- Yeah. It just lit my foot up.

He just stepped on a thornbush.

And he's got a...

narrator: Sometimes,
no matter how prepared

the survivalists think they
are, things can still go wrong.

The unexpected
is always expected.

It's all a part of survival.

And sometimes, nature
attacks from the inside out.

Hi. How are you?

Oh, good. Uh, me?

Not so good.

"Why?" do you ask.

I have worms.

I got worms.

I think it was from not
cooking my food very well.

And it was really weird
'cause I could feel, like,

something squirming in me,
and I knew that it wasn't right,

kind of like little
twitches in your stomach.

And I knew that was different.

And then, I went to
go use the bathroom.

And I looked.

And I could see little
worms coming out.

And it was really scary.

I just, like, was looking.

And I was like, "wow. Flies
have babies really fast."

And then, I realized it was
coming out of my [bleep]

And I was like, "oh,
my God. I have worms."

I'm gonna be okay
'cause I'm a [bleep] warrior.

Narrator: There is no
reasoning with mother nature.

If she decides to bring a storm,

the survivalists have no
choice but to wait it out.

Thailand jungle
and mother nature,

It rained like I've
never seen rain

before in my life in Thailand.

It was cold,

so we were just
hunkering in our shelter

to try to wait out the storm.

We might as well
just suck it up and...

- Yep.
- ...Deal with it.

Yep. We're gonna
embrace the suck.

Lindsay and I were
absolutely stuck

in the shelter day after day.

It was some long days.

It's still raining.

Ugh.

We were about
to lose it mentally.

Lindsay: Holy cow.

River down there is
flooded. Bridge is gone.

It's just constant,
constant water.

Yep. It's still
raining like hell.

Do you think we'll ever
have a day with no rain at all?

So he can move very easily.

As you can see, we have

It even shakes if

They're, like,

I don't know if we were supposed
to be having this much fun.

Narrator: After enduring 21 days

of battling hunger,
harsh terrain,

and constant fatigue,

the survivalists must
now face the toughest part

of their adventure
...extraction.

Day 21, whoo! Yeah.

I'm so [bleep]
pumped it's stupid.

Day 21 felt like
the last stretch

of the experience.

It was just like, "oh, my God.

Thank you. My
nightmare is almost over."

- Ready?
- Yep.

Headed home!

You know, we had to
find a way off the island.

And, uh, that was gonna be
floating through the swamp.

And while it's one thing to
build a raft to float out on,

it's another thing
to build a raft

that looks totally awesome.

We had that smoky skull

that looked Gothic
from the fire on the front.

We had palm leaves
in the back of it.

Looks like a Las Vegas float.

We had a flag that
Andrea made herself.

It was built from the swamp.

And we returned it
back to the swamp.

And I hope it's
still floating there

because that was
one kick-a*s raft.

That sounds like
the ocean to me.

Whoo!

Extraction day was
...was pretty exciting.

We crested this hill.

And there's the pacific ocean.

I mean, it was
like night and day.

White-sand beach, uh, and it...

it's like you just went
from hell to paradise.

- Whoo!
- Come on. Let's get there.

And it's the most
beautiful sight in the world,

the most triumphant moment.

The extraction was
absolutely brutal.

It was the hardest thing that...

that I think I've actually
ever done in my life.

Don't you stop
when you get here.

My body had nothing to give.

And Matt literally pulled
me through this extraction.

I hear it.

Let's go. Come on.
- All right.

Don't stop.

Um, it was just, you know,

almost tears of joy
came to my face.

It was just... you
know, the best part

of it was getting on that
truck, getting out of there.

Karen: For me, as the
oldest woman survivor

of "Naked and Afraid,"
everything in life

is in such a different
perspective now.

It was just an
amazing experience.

Narrator: From first
showers to first real meals,

getting to experience
life's simple pleasures again

is always a thrill.

I'm looking at
myself in the mirror

for the first time.

And I am so dirty.

My first shower was really,

really nice to actually
feel soap on my body

and to see all
this dirt leaving.

And it felt really good.

I only washed my hair once.

I'm gonna do it again.

Whoo! I love taking showers!

So we're eating lunch
here the day we fly out,

back to our homes.

We have a Greek pizza.
What do you have, Hobbs?

It's called a beef arepa.

It's got guacamole
on the bottom.

Hobbs: First thing I did
when I got my clothes

back on was I just

stuffed my face full of food
for the first time in 21 days.

It... it was really good and
...and surprisingly tasty.

Narrator: But the
greatest reward

for most of the survivalists

is reuniting with
family and friends.

[ All screaming ]

So, yeah. That
would be my family.

Hey.

The hardest thing for
me in this challenge

was leaving the people
that I love the most.

And came down an escalator.

And there was,
like, an entourage

of every single person
that I love the most.

See? This is where I get it.

That's why I cry.

And coming home to the people

that love me the most
and support me no matter

what would've
happened out there,

it was just like
icing on the cake.

Best... best experience
of my whole life.

Aaron: I walked down
that ramp and saw my son.

And, uh...

I got to hear him say, "papa."

Made it all worth it.

High five.

And he's the
number-one reason I did it.

So yeah.

It was... it was incredible.

Narrator: Matt's return
home from Thailand

took his relationship
to the next level.

Matt: So as soon as I got home,

I was planning to
do this epic proposal.

So what I did is I set up...

I set up this beautiful
white canvas tent

up on a mountainside
just out of Denver area here.

And on my laptop,

I have a little bit
of the footage.

And I sit there,
open up the laptop.

And I'm like, "hey."
And so we got

a little sneak peek
of the jungle footage.

Brook, I've seen a lot

of incredible
places in the world.

I don't want to see any more
of these incredible places

without the most beautiful girl.

Brook, I would like to ask you
to make me the luckiest man

in the world.

Will you marry me?

Aww.

And... she said, "yes."

Narrator: Ultimately, the
"Naked and Afraid" survivalists

learned that the experience,

intense, brutal,
and life-changing,

may have found them
at their must vulnerable.

But in the end, nature
will always be fighting.

So to survive, you
have to fight back.

Coconuts.
